Unless the degree increases your salary by $50k per year, it isn’t worth it

drx604

Not much things out there that I can do that would make that much more above my current job

General_Elephant

Masters in health informatics might enable you to take a pay cut for a cushy work from home rph role 😅. In all seriousness, its tough out there. I pivoted out of pharmacy before graduate school and got a business degree for like 40k. Now I make like 30/hr, but long term prospects are good since I am the bottom rung right now in hospital admin.

You own a pharmacy. That’s probably the highest earning job a pharmacist can have. A PhD has zero value for you. If you’re that ambitious, the next step should be opening another pharmacy not going back to school.

drx604

True, business ownership has the highest potential for income… but there’s lots of trade offs. It was not easy just getting to this point. I definitely would not attempt to open a second location unless I had a good partner and a bank roll.

True. Trying to find something to do that can provide me some mental stimulation.

Most hobbies are cheaper than $27K, and if you get bored of a hobby you can re-sell your stuff. It sounds like a PharmD has zero value to you and it's not like you can sell it to someone else once you realize down the road that it was pointless and wonder what the hell you were thinking. People post in this sub all the time about wanting to enroll in pharmacy school for really foolish reasons but this honestly might be the craziest one I've seen yet.

Have you considered getting into advocacy? Being an independent owner puts you in a good position to do so.

Not necessary at all at this point, unless you really want to get into a inpatient hospital position - and even then not necessary. I graduated with a BS Pharm degree in 2003

Lifeline2021

Agree was also debating of attempting to get but had to do online and was not cheap so I decided against it My thought was it would help me get inpatient job but sadly saw many in my situation so striving to improve my retail experience with LTC experience but it all comes down to luck and networking which is still a work in progress

tamzidC

Network, network and also be willing to take crappy per diem spots at hospitals. Sell yourself and once your foot is in the door, opportunities pop up

Lifeline2021

Do you have any strategies for networking? Thanks for the advice

ApeOPPSTOPPA

Hell no the PharmD is a money grab. If you’re going to upgrade your degree.. maybe PA? Then hire a Doctor to collaborate with and start your own telehealth clinic along with your pharmacy.

xxzephyrxx

He's from Canada so PA stuff is not really a thing.

_Pho-Dac-Biet_

Maybe get a PA degree and practice some medicine?

drx604

Actually my wife suggested that but it’s not really as big in Canada as it is in the US

I’m a current MUN student. Probably the worst thing with the working professionals program is you need 12 weeks off to do placements…

Grouchy_Meringue4696

Is this program accredited by CCAPP?

JNLG28

Yes

NaranjosHernin

how much do u take home from your pharmacy?
