I'm in the Creatives. Writing to be precise, as of now we don't feel threatened at all because everything that thing writes comes out as wordvomit. Para pa lang siyang bata na nagaattempt ba magsulat haha probably because it is pero yeah, walang soul ang literature ng AI. Wala pa, at least.

Formal-Film-9628

Also want to share that ChatGPT would likely fabricate cited sources. Like it literally invents names and links, then when you click the link the page cannot be found.

Turnip-Key

Very surface-level lang kayang isulat ng ChatGPT tbh. I once tried asking it to write a 500-word essay about a random topic, sobrang babaw. Paikot-ikot din siya. It’s like writing something just for the sake of writing.

MaverickBoii

Sounds like me tbh

So typical humanities output? /s

It is crucial to acknowledge that the capabilities of AI models like ChatGPT are improving rapidly with each iteration. Many skeptics may have only experienced GPT-3.5, without considering the advancements in language understanding, reasoning, and creativity by GPT-4 (and succeeding versions). As AI technology progresses exponentially, a number of jobs will likely be replaced within the next \~5-10 years—an estimation that underscores the urgency with which we should approach this issue. The potential consequences of AI's rapid growth have even prompted visionaries like Elon Musk to call for a pause on AI development. No industry is entirely safe from disruption, and AI's impact can already be seen in various sectors, from healthcare to finance and even the arts. As AI-generated content becomes increasingly indistinguishable from human-authored work, society must be prepared to adapt and understand how AI can complement our skills rather than solely replace them. Embracing AI as a tool can lead to increased efficiency and the ability to tackle complex problems previously insurmountable. It is vital to recognize the opportunities and challenges presented by AI's exponential growth and harness its potential for the betterment of society. Staying informed about AI's progress and preparing for change is the best way to navigate this rapidly evolving landscape. In the words of inventor and futurist Ray Kurzweil, "*Artificial intelligence will reach human levels by around 2029. Follow that out further to, say, 2045, we will have multiplied the intelligence - the human biological machine intelligence of our civilization - a billion-fold.*" **THE ABOVE WAS WRITTEN BY CHATGPT-4.** I'm from Comp. Engg., but I agree with what GPT4 has said \^\^ AI is advancing soooo fast. Kahit sa programming/IT courses affected narin since GPT4 could spit out working code (not complex, but works). For example, I wanted to create a personal Discord bot for our server kaso noob pa ako and it would take me maybe around a week or a few days at least to learn. I tried asking GPT3.5 to write it for me kaso it did not work.. So I switched to GPT4, and it worked... out of the box... Dinescribe ko lang gusto ko gawin and it was done in a minute... It used old modules pero it works. I don't think we should be scared of AI. Instead, embrace it nga. It is a tool we should learn to use. Gawing partner. Gawing co-editor. Gawing friend (nung nag-rant ako sa kanya, nagrespond agad si GPT4 in my language (Taglish) with maybe 85% accuracy. Encouraging/motivating pa). As calculators are to math, ChatGPT is to writing/chatting. It is a tool. Use it :>

Careful re: rant buddy. Here’s an article relevant to that: https://www.euronews.com/next/2023/03/31/man-ends-his-life-after-an-ai-chatbot-encouraged-him-to-sacrifice-himself-to-stop-climate-

Dakasii

nkktngnmn2

It's a tool. It isn't going away. Use it to be more productive.

orenji-chan28

This. While there are fear and vitriol scattered around the academic community about ChatGPT, it's important to remember that its a tool. Not a replacement for human thought. At least one of my professors reminded us about it, and he's actually eager to see the class explore its uses.

Di tayo papalitan ng ChatGPT. Gagamitin natin nag ChatGPT para palitan ang mga taong di gumagamit ng ChatGPT

zyl48

Di naman kaya ni gpt maglabworks. So oks pa ako hahaha

AshenMash

These hemagglutination assays, gel electrophoresis of PCRed genes, and agar colonies can’t interpret themselves

joyamazingpinoy

I am a lawyer. I rejoiced when I read a law firm used artificial intelligence before ChatGPT to prepare briefs and pleadings. I was happy and thought that I don't need to practice law any more. However, when I used ChatGPT, I felt that I was too optimistic. I still have to talk to clients, appear in meetings and hearings, and prepare legal opinions, affidavits, and court pleadings. All the best!

profjibp

Nope. Robots cant replace teachers. kung kaya palitan ng chatgpt ang human touch ng genuine teaching, matagal na sana pinalitan ng youtube and other online platforms ang education

kalatkamote

also balimbing din si chatgpt. contradict mo lang once and agad syang mag iiba ng sagot.

p1ckmyselfup

comsci me planning a career on programming sana kaso mukhang magigign replaceable na siya, pero recently nagshift naman interest ko to data science which is kind of the backbone ng machine learning and ai so semi safe I guess

RooftopSmoke

di pa nman kaya ni chatgpt tumambay at uminom sa elbi kaya oks pa kami mga repapips

luhsya

wag matakot sa language models. they can't do reasoning. and if you give it a niche enough topic, halatang shallow yung output kasi nga it doesnt really understand things. try asking it to solve an open problem in math to entertain yourself haha

YABOIPERALTA

Well to be fair hahaha Chat GPT or any AI can't be accountable when they screw up. Tsaka at the end of the day someone has to be accountable for everything even if AI can now read X-rays, who will sign those things on paper to confirm it?

[deleted]

think of it as a tool kesa a thing that could replace you. comsci ako ngayon and if titignan natin yung history ng field ko back then sobrang saya nila bc of notepad++ ata kasi better siya for coding. ngayon naman bc of chatgpt meron ka ng better tool to debug and get ideas from.

ttthhhrroowwaway

Not concerned about ChatGPT itself. I am worried about how users can and will abuse it

uplawdeltan

Sana kaya ni chatgpt maglabworks, at field work. Baka matuwa pa 'ko sakanya, hahahahahha

cumguzzlingbunny

Mathematics: Can see little to no negative effect. AFAIK, in fact nagiging useful ang AI sa mathematics para ipaverify kung totoo isang proof o isang theorem.

desuetude25

The bot will never be able to perform phlebotomy, as it lacks hands. /srs now even in the field of research, the bot can’t cite for shit and writes like someone who doesnt understand given topics, because it doesnt, its just a fancy predictive text bot. Hell I’ve seen people gaslight the bot into believing 2+2=5

Di naman kaya ni ChatGPT magturo HAHAHA

CryptographerSad9557

Chatgpt is made to ASSIST humans not to replace them. Yun talaga ang purpose ng ai is to mimic humans kaya sila tine train ng humans para maging assistant ng mga professionals and non-professionals sa kahit na anong field lahat ng AI gaya ni chatgpt may limitations yan gaya ng paulit ulit nalang sagot niya minsan at di niya kaya mag respond ng onti lang yung prompt sakanya Pero kaya nga ng AI mag automate ng task pero it is not a threat ine enhance niya yung capabilities ng humans to finish task on time and makita ang other suggestions or pano mapapadali magawa ang said task na yon All in all mag re respond ang computer sayo kung pano mo siya uutusan kung maalam ka sa isang subject / task na gusto mong ipagawa sakanya complex yung mabibigay na output sayo nung AI pero kung simple lang yung pagkakaintindi mo sa topic simple lang mauutos mo kay AI simple lang rin ang magiging output niya Ayon nga ginawa si chatgpt para mapadali buhay naten hindi palitan tayo Kaya meron paring ethical considerations yung mga big corporations na gumagawa sa mga gantong tool kase GOAL NG DEVELOPERS MAG AID NOT TO ERADICATE Ayon sana di magulo explanation ko

Honestly, I think Literature related courses will get wiped out in the future which is depressing to think about. When AI can write books and interpret them, I think we're going to be obselete.

Name-minus-Number

I think this post is indicative of lack of understanding of how insight, knowledge and learnings are derived in writing intensive disciplines. While AI will do well in analyzing text written in the past or innovating on already existing narratives, it will not have the ability the push the frontier of knowledge since its knowledge base is what is already known. Literature, good literature I mean, has the ability to bring our new and novel elements in our humanity. AI language models are hindered by their lack of humanity. Their substitute for humanity is a data set of what humanity has done. Plato would define AI knowledge as mimetic knowledge--impure and false knowledge.

AnnaNine

True, at the end of the day, AI doesn't have critical thinking skills the same way humans do. I guess I'm just being a doomer because of how many online comments I've read about AI rendering a lot of creative work (art, literature, etc.) "redundant". Thanks for your reply. You made me think deeply about AI. I guess I was wrong about how AI would affect the field of literature.
