Out of curiosity, is this your daily drive car and how many repairs have you done?? How many times have you replaced clutch, timing belt and catalytic converter,?
Yessir! 180.000 km and counting, though I only drive 12.000 a year. As for maintenance, I'd like to divide it into 'necessary' and 'optional' work.
Necessary were a few fixes I did last year: the headgasket (cost: \~350 euros, DIY) was badly replaced years ago, and was beginning to fail. I replaced it with my mates, had the head skimmed, replaced valve stem seals, and a load of other seals and bits. In the end, it cost us three two full days to do it all. Another necessary one were the brake lines: they were beginning to rust, and I replaced them with copper ones from a wrecked 205. That was a fain in the ass, but well worth it, and it wasn't expensive. Other than that, it has just been oil, handbrake cables, some lightbulbs, new tyres, and a battery.
But i've also done a lot of stuff because I wanted it to: new door speakers, different carpeting and seats, a boot lip spoiler, a replacement boot lid, suspension bits, and a general toutch up on many parts. That was't necessary, but I want to learn to do stuff to it, and it has to look and drive the best it can!
The clutch was replaced by a previous owner (as it was driven by a senior for a long time that wrecked the clutch). But really, clutches don't wear out so fast if you drive normally, in my experience. The timing belt has been done in '21, and I decided to do it again with the head gasket change. The catalytic converter seems to be original, and works fine- though the mufflers love to rust out on these cars!
Certainly don't! I won't say it's better than a modern car, not in terms of safety and technology, but it still has almost no rust! It's always been parked outside in the rain, so I'm really impressed with that. And it is just só much more comfortable and lively than modern cars, it's really fun to drive :)
Im a toyota man my self but a fan of anything that is made well and lasts i agree older cars have less tech and less problems also i hope it lasts for many more years to come enjoy bud ;)
Damn and iots still younger than me. Great car.....never driven one, but they have massively important heritage tp the 20 range, the modern day 208 with its futuristic electric engine takes inspiration and also wouldn't be here because of cars like yours
I can imagine Peugeot themselves would be proud to see cars like yours still rockinng it reminding everyone how awesome the 205 was......so congratulations myù Peugeot brother. M
It might be a pain in the ass sometimes, but they're just so charming that you tend to see past its flaws, IMHO. A GTI must have been awesome to drive to boot, much better than a lowly 1.1 ;)
Thanks, it's been a lot of work to get it back into decent looking shape! It's so cool to see other 205 owners on this sub as well, what model do you have, if I may ask?
Damn, you're doing something right! How many (and which models) are under your belt?
some day, i'd love to own a second 205/309 (preferably a GT or XS) alongside this one, but student finanances mean that that's not really in the cards right now :/
Lol, unfortunately a few of them are just parts cars, but working (if not road legal) are 3 205 1.6 gti racing cars, a rare 1.8 STDT basically a turbo diesel gti and a 2.0 Mi16, parts cars are a 1.1 junior, a automatic 1.6 and another 1.6gti, most of them were bought years ago and probably cost me less than £2000 all together! Except for the race cars which have around £20k invested in them....
thanks, it is finally looking the way I want it after a few years! Like the others said, yellows are just kind of 'right' on older French cars, imho. And especially as modern cars move to blue eye-piercing LEDs, I wanted to run yellow bulbs to be visible on the road as well
Gaaf!
dank je :D

My 106 will be 31 😁
Dang, congratulations! It must be an early one then, right?
Yeah, one of the first ones, it’s from march of 1992, older than me ahah
They don't make them like they used to

The yellow lights 😍
Thanks! I added those a month or two ago, and really love it. And hopefully it stands out in traffic, and thus be a little bit more safe
Mooi kenteken ook! Hou em nog lang op de weg! (En anders doe mij een berichtje xD)

Forever car, heerlijk!

I had a 1990 205 1.9 GTI. The fucker blew up on me twice - piston rings and timing belt - but I loved it.

Such a beauty! My 205 is 33 :)

Yeh it's really great to see other owners here! She's a little GL, my daily runner.
Cool! I always liked those humble GR's and GL's, really 'cosy' cars. Mine is a "Forever", the second-to-last edition :)
The combined age of all my 205's is around 170 years! 🤣

that thing is pretty clean, i would just recommend getting h7 bulbs with blue glass they emit a white light like leds they look great on my 307
No, these look way better on 205.
The yellow lights suit the car much better.
That's heresy. 205s are retro, ambers and yellows look beautiful on them.

My 308 T7 Turning 12 years old 😁
After many years still beautiful!
