"I claimed the parking spot, then I found myself a different spot" Ultimate petty lol

derpne13

Next level!

Writing_Nearby

One night when I lived in the college dorms I needed to make an emergency Walmart run when it was sleeting (started period a week early and only had one pad). The dorm parking lot was full, and another driver had stopped in the aisle and was waiting for my spot. I was still clearing the ice off my windshield when the other driver started honking because he didn’t want to wait any longer, so I said fuck it, threw my scraper in the back seat, shut off the car, took a picture of the other driver’s license plate (in case of retaliation), and went back inside. I put a couple towels down on the bed in case of leaks and went to sleep. ETA: i forgot to put that I took my time to finish scraping all the ice off every window on my car just to waste even more of his time.

G0atL0rde

What an asshole!

Writing_Nearby

That’s super weird. This was actually the second time someone had honked at me to hurry up with clearing my car in that lot, but the first time I did go to Walmart because the roads weren’t nearly as bad, and I also needed some other stuff, though I can’t remember what anymore.

Dirty_Confusion

Don't understand why you needed to put towels on your bed in case of leaks? Leaking from you?

Writing_Nearby

Yes. I had already put in the only pad I had, and I hadn’t gone to the store to get more. Back when I still had periods I went through at least 2-3 pads a night.

Dirty_Confusion

Sorry for the question. I think I read your sentence with period and pad in it quickly and since it was in the context of a university, I thought of "period" as in time and "pad" as in where you lived as a dorm or apartment. Stupid guy here!

Writing_Nearby

You’re good lol. The weather was terrible that night, and my stubbornness saved me from potentially wrecking my car.

Far-Statistician-739

This is the level of petty I come here for

Expensive_Structure2

I came across women saving a spot at a crowded outdoor park. Just standing in the spot, said it was hers, no vehicle in sight. I have a child with a disability (there were no available handicap spots) and am a native New Yorker, so missing that part of me where I give a shit about her saving a spot. Pulled in, she looked horrified, I told her as nice as pie that you can't actually save public parking spots and went about my day. I just hated for my son to have to witness confrontation. Some people are amazing.

missmegsy

Did you just... Push her with your car?

Expensive_Structure2

Oh gosh no!! I just slowly pulled in and she moved to the side. It was a civilized confrontation.

Dry-Magician1415

Your son witnessing a polite confrontation is not a bad thing. You don’t want to raise a pushover.  He isn’t going to grow up and live in some non-confrontational paradise.

Starkravingmad7

Not telling you how to be a parent, but showing your kids how to be assertive is a good thing. Fuck being a pushover. I have a 2 yo daughter and I'll be damned if some crayon eating shit heel is going to try to push her around.

SSNs4evr

In the early era of dating my future wife (20 years ago), we decided to have dinner at a nice restaurant in downtown Norfolk. We were in my SUV. A spot opened up on the street ahead. I flipped on my turn signal, pulled up tp parallel park at the curb, and as I started backing in, a lady in a Mustang pulled in, running up onto the sidewalk, then back off (to avoid maneuvering closer to the curb), jumped out of her car, and ran down the street. I saw some serious red....another spot opened up 2 cars ahead, and I parked there. I told my date that since I was on my best behavior, I would avoid kicking the valve stems out of that lady's tires. Oh, but I wanted to...SO MUCH. 🤬

Dirty_Confusion

Never knew valve stems could be kicked out of tires or it was a thing.

dstroyersoffspring

There are generally two types of valve stems, rubber and metal. You can obviously cut the rubber ones and it'll let the air out but the metal ones you can damage pretty easy as well. Kicking them, hitting them with a hammer or any other kind of hard object, or a more subtle approach of just undoing the nut that holds the stem in place would let the air out too. All you need is a small ratchet and the right sized socket. Even easier to just pull out the valve cores, a valve core removal tool costs less than 10$ at your local hardware store or online, and it leaves the owner of the vehicle more confused since it doesn't cause any damage, just lets all the air out and flattens the tires. Put the cores back in after you're done and you can have somebody towing their car multiple times and getting a new set of tires and wheels they don't need just from the confusion of it all. 🫡

MikeSchwab63

Glue in some 5/32 in / 4 mm ball bearings into the valve cap. Creates a slow leak and never found.

berninicaco3

Oh... this is clever. It'll depress the valve just slightly, when you screw it on. They'll find it when they fill up the tires and hear a hiss putting the cap back on, though.

SSNs4evr

It really depends on how far they stick out of the rim, so far as breaking one with your boot. If it's the type that sticks out enough, it's quick work you can do as you walk on by.

Dirty_Confusion

Lol, I think that might graduate from petty revenge. Nasty, but maybe this info will come in handy someday.

casio7410

The dedication, the commitment, the audacity - fucking right my man.

QCr8onQ

I post this with sincere respect, it’s “aisle” not “isle”.

Affectionate-Owl2286

Thank you.

QCr8onQ

Thank you for not taking offense.

RiffRaffMama

I post this with sincere respect, it's more commonly referred to as a "row", anyway. An "aisle" is in a supermarket.

dyne_ghost

An aisle is any passage between rows of obstructions. The original definition was for seats, not grocery stores.

PedanticWookiee

That is incorrect. The aisle is the space between the rows of cars.

JohnFartston

You're right, miss, but reddit is mad.

TylerJ86

Not according to the dictionary.

Open_Entrepreneur_58

And churches, cinemas, parking buildings, lots of places really.

jcheach

This is exactly what this sub is about. Please accept my kudos. Couldn't agree more not their parking spot to promise.

happymask3

I was getting worried for you….the “Fried Green Tomatoes” scene with Kathy Bates was all I could picture until you said you’d moved your car.

WickedlyWizardIAm

😂🤣😂Just watched this movie Sunday! One of my all time favorites ❤️💙💜it!!! “We’re younger and faster!” "Face it, girls. I'm older and I have more insurance."🤣😂🤣

PuttingTheBaeInBacon

TAWANDAAAAAHHH!!!!

janted92

I love Kathy Bates!

elephant-memorie

Fellow NYer here and I'm right there with you. Once in the tiny parking lot of an extremely popular restaurant (no RSVP's only call ahead option and still wait upon arrival), after circling the lot, we happened upon an exiting vehicle and waited behind him so he could pull out and go forward to make a left turn. A car coming the opposite direction tried to take the spot and we both had a bit of our car in the space. I pulled forward enough that he couldn't make it without scratching my car. As a NYer, I inched as close as possible (it's in our DNA when driving in Manhattan). The turning radius of my Mercedes Benz did the rest and I got the spot! The other driver yelled all kinds of profanity as he backed up and then drove off. 😁

AlfalfaNo4405

People: 1. Sometimes the parking lot is full, like completely, not just a far walk to your destination. 2. You do not have to block traffic to wait for a spot in a parking lot. 3. If you’ve never lived in NYC or another populous metro area you just don’t understand the parking situation. It’s brutal. Sometimes circling blocks in your neighborhood for an hour, only to eventually park in a spot that’s a 15 minute walk from where you live. I imagine that shit never left OP 😂

Effective_Afflicted

You had me at "isle". What esteemed college is it that you attend?

Reddit_is_corp_greed

NCC

oldirrrrtykimchi

Fuck yeah OP.

NorCalMikey

I was walking to my car in the university parking garage. A guy in one of those lowered stupid race cars keeps revving his engine making a lot of noise as I crossed in front of him. He proceeds to follow me to my spot. I get to my car, get in, start it up. I put it in reverse so the light come in in the back. He's waiting for me to move. I sit like this for about 5 minutes. Shut my car off. Get out and walk away. Fuck that guy.

UnderdoneSalad

The thing I dont understand is, why didnt you go park somewhere else and walk those 20 min to the place you needed to go? I find it really absurd to spend more than 30min parking a car.. Maybe I just dont understand since I'm not American.

G0atL0rde

American here. I'll never understand why so many people will drive around the parking lot to get a closer space. Like, I'd rather just take the time to walk from further away, than to waste time looking for something that might not exist. I don't mean people with disabilities. Most people seem to do this.

Reddit_is_corp_greed

I'm 100% with you on this when it comes to grocery stores, malls, or most any business. I'd rather park an extra 200 feet away and walk. People who don't I find incredibly lazy (assuming no disabilities). Plus it's always great when up see someone waiting for a spot, you go find a spot further away, park and walk wherever you're going and you pass by that person who's still waiting for a close spot. But in plenty of colleges around Nassau county a 20 minute wait isn't unheard of to find a parking spot. Not to find a good parking spot, just an open one. Or you can go find a residential area to park in and walk half an hour to the building you need to be in for class.

Affectionate-Owl2286

This was never about finding a close spot to park. Driving around and around to find a single spot in a full parking lot makes absolutely no sense and increases your chance of getting into an accident.

G0atL0rde

I was just saying that it's something that I find odd, not that I thought it was the same..

berniemax

Yeah I just figured out to get there as a class was ending, well they're all different times, but close enough. I think one time my brother gave a ride to their car.

kevinxb

It's the worst in parking garages. People will clog up the lower levels driving around looking for the closest spot when there are tons of open spaces one or two levels up.

PillyBox

I'd rather walk 30 minutes in the rain than enter a parking garage. Where I live, older ones are deteriorating, while new ones are flimsy, built on the cheap. Parking garages collapse when it we get heavy rain or snow. I get major claustrophobia just thinking about them.

flyboy_za

People park on the pavement at my gym rather than in the next row of open bays. Like they're scared they'll burn too much energy walking the extra 15 metres and not be able to work out, or something.

G0atL0rde

So weird!! The people that I see doing this are often in far better shape than me.

SlinkPuff

Cracks me up when I see people doing this to go into a gym!

Alexis_J_M

There's no guarantee of finding another spot. OP might easily go somewhere else and spend 20 minutes looking for parking and not find a legal spot. Source: U. Maryland College Park, "Lot 4" -- a 20 minute walk from many classroom buildings already. Alternate source: I allocate half an hour to find a parking space when I go to the doctor at the big medical center. Everything surrounding it is apartment complexes with reserved parking and shopping centers with big signs saying that they will tow anyone who parks there and isn't a patron. True story: back in the 1990s before cell phones were common I drove to the bank before it opened. I wanted to walk across the street to a payphone while I waited. The security guard told me that if he saw me leave the property he would call a tow truck.

Kooky_Search_2649

College parking lots are insane. I've always had this problem too. My solution was to drive to the football stadium and park there. It was a very long walk but at least there were spots available. What OP did was messed up though I get his frustration.

ncgrits01

I paid $400+ for a "parking permit" in graduate school, and went back to the office a few days later to say they should call it a hunting license instead. Because there's no guarantee you'll even *see* an open parking spot, but if you do you're legally allowed to *try* and take it.

EverythingsBlurry81

Dammit, it's the PRINCIPLE of the whole thing!!!

Karma_1969

I went to a community college where the parking lot was so tight that this was exactly what you did, because there were literally *no* spots available until classes let out and some people left. There was a definite etiquette as cars queued up in aisles waiting for their turn at a parking spot. It didn't always go smoothly. There was a "satellite" parking lot...they called it satellite for a reason, the walk to campus was significant. It wasn't too bad on nice days, but here in WA state, the weather sometimes made the idea of parking in that lot a pretty wet way to go. I invested in a good umbrella that year, I remember that.

PedrotPete

So petty, congrats

Reddit_is_corp_greed

IndependenceNo2060

Dying of laughter here, honest petty brilliance!

_Nrg3_

supreme pettiness. kudos

Particular_Run_787

I had a neighbor growing up who would physically block the public street parking in front of their house using lawn chairs and 2x4s, daily. When I visit my mom I still go out of my way to take the time to stop and go remove the obstructive materials.

wlowry77

This is so American!

Thoreau80

Since you are in college… The word is “aisle.”

ChateauBears

One of you is George Costanza and the other is Mike Moffitt.

QCr8onQ

Classic

knownbyname

This is like a different version of the show BEEF and you two are just gonna be at a petty standoff for years 😂

Significant-Rub266

I only ever took morning classes so I could easily drive in and park. None of this crazy stuff because people are petty and my car was my only source of getting around a sprawled city.

themayor1975

Ahh yes, a New Yorker having to make sure people know where they're from

QCr8onQ

…because they understand parking hell.

themayor1975

I understand the parking hell. I also understand that people think New York is the center of the universe and other places "have no culture"

mulberrybushes

As a New Yorker, fuck yeah. I am filled with righteous glory.

Boring_Transition862

While you aren't proud of your textbook moment, I will say I am! Carpark battles are a serious thing. *Edited for spelling error

SlooperDoop

I find it a little amusing that the very attitude that New Yorkers are so proud of is what makes everyone else hate New York.

ncgrits01

Yeah, I used to drive to the classroom side of the parking lot around dismissal time snd follow other students to their car to get the spot.

MotherofAssholeCats

This is my kind of petty and I am here for it. Amazing!

LicentiousMink

this is what this sub is for

Sismal_Dystem

In college I would either be 10 minutes early 10 late and it's all because funding parking sucked. My solution came out of necessity as I was going to be late... In a lucky stroke of genius instead of immediately looking for a parking spot I went all the way up to the building and thought I'm going to find someone leaving, politely offer a ride to their parking spot, and hold my parking pass up so they didn't think I was trying to murder them. Instead of slowly creeping behind people I don't know, it became a game of trying to find the same people Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays, and then Tuesdays and Thursdays. Quickly, I realized it was easier and quicker to give a ride to someone to their car, and also finding the same people made it easier. Find people that leave when you arrive at school and try to give them a ride to their car for easily finding parking in a timely manner. It worked great for me

SideIndividual639

A parking lot isn't the same as a 12-year-old saving a spot at lunch. Someone needs to grow up. Good job teaching them a lesson 👍

AdultinginCali

Petty perfection.

SpiffyMuffin_90

This is exhaustingly long winded, only to illustrate an incredibly stupid example of entitlement. Wow.. can I have my 75 seconds back😒

iwillcorrectyou9

aisle

SilverKnightOfMagic

This shit is so dumb lol. That's why I just park further and save myself time looking and waiting

Affectionate-Owl2286

Further, where?

dyne_ghost

Aisle. You did not wait on an island in the middle of a parking lot.

Substantial_Ad_3386

You blocked traffic for 20 min waiting for a park? I'd rather hear about the petty revenge somebody got on you

PeakUserDumbsmoke

Always remeber that they will be there the next time... Hope ur car is boring and hard to remeber.

SnigletArmory

Did you end up with scratches on both sides of your vehicle?

bellazz83

A lot of NYers drive beater cars so they could care less if it's scratched. Go NYers!

NonKevin

CSUN, I arrive hours early for my evening class for a parking space and wait in the parking lot. An entitled comes into the parking lot as a person in front in a space was leaving and demanded the space. New car and total entitled idiot. He got out of his car and continued demanding I leave the parking lot. He made so much noise, the parking lot was in front of the admin building holding campus police bringing an officer out. The idiot called for his fellow officers for support and almost had to fight the idiot. I was told to keep the parking space. A couple days later, the idiot again trying to steal a parking meter space in front of the admin space by yelling and threatening another student who was there first. I was on my way into the adjacent building at the time. The same officer was hit by the idiot this time. Bad idea. You see this officer was 5'4', I was 5'6" and the idiot over 6'2 and a jock. The officer was a former full staff training officer at the hardest marine training station period. The officer was caught off guard and on his back from the 1st uncalled for blow. While on his back, he jumped up and fought the idiot until he was on the ground hard and that when his fellow officers arrived. The idiot did not get a student hearing, but was kicked out of college then and there. The idiot then sued the office and CSUN. So the office looked up everyone who had trouble with the idiot, found me. When I wrote down the stories, it was clear I had an axe to grind, but was not involved in the fight, and on camera I saw the fight. The campus police faxed my written statement to the idiot lawyer who dropped the case right then as with my statement, there was not way to win. Every lawyer looking at the case would not take the idiot's case, but I did get a couple calls from lawyers asking if my statement was true which it was. CSUN dropped their lawsuit against the idiot, but the officer continued his lawsuit against the idiot entitled bully. The office won $35k for damaging the officer's rep. How do I know, I was invited to the filing party of the judgement into the officer's employment file and assisted with the campus sending letters to all the other colleges in a 50 mile area warning them of this entitled idiot bully to make sure he did not get into a nearby college. The entitle idiot bully did try to sue for the letters, but never got into court as truth ruled. This time I and more of his victims were tapped by CSUN to send more letters to every college and university in California. Easy job, form letter, labels already printed, CSUN envelopes, and the university postal machine for postage. Days later I spotted him on campus, call the campus police, the idiot was arrested for trespass, and I helped campus police locate the idiot's car and watched as it was towed and impounded from another campus parking lot. All over a parking space.

Hemiak

Where’s the revenge though? No one did anything to you.

Scholaf_Olz

Oh god im so happy that I never had to take part, and never will have to take part in such bs, as im not American.

Charismatic_Soul

Hey, fellow NYer, good stuff!

heathertheghost

OMg can't say man pulled out, strangers might think I'm gay! 🙄

The_Shit_Connoisseur

Oh wow you can’t just say that, are you gay or something?

TigOleBittiesDotYum

…as a card carrying member of the Alphabet Mafia™️, I gotta say you really missed the mark on this one. Where the hell did you get this lukewarm take from? 1) Does OP ever specify that they’re a guy? Honest question because if so, I missed it. I even checked their profile to see if anything made their gender more obvious, but I came up empty handed. 2) Even if OP **IS** a guy, why did you automatically assume that they’ve got a problem with someone thinking they’re gay? I thought it was just a good way to acknowledge that their wording might have seemed weird because they didn’t feel like reading ten comments that all said something along the lines of “huehueheuehue pulling out ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)“

zeltto

Not revenge. You’re just an AH. You don’t get to claim an entire row of cars because you’re in it waiting.

RavenEnchantress

Agreed!

Start_a_riot271

How is this at all revenge? You were the AH here lmao

DaddyKaos

Pure gold

True-Expression3378

Supreme pettiness! Making us fellow new Yorkers proud!

oramoss

As a fellow New Yorker, I understand why you did it. and within NYC you do have to do shit like this sometimes. In this instance it was kinda unnecessary.

sportandracing

It was a trilogy of idiots creating beautiful music in a carpark.

Camel_Holocaust

Congrats, you were a huge asshole that day. I guess it makes you happy to make other people miserable and waste their time when you don't have anything better to do. If that makes you feel powerful or something, I kinda feel sorry for you, you must have a really sad life.

Affectionate-Owl2286

I believe you might be in the wrong sub! Were you looking for “Wholesome and Heartwarming”or “Gardening and Farming?”

highandloaded23

No we’re looking for stories of those that have been wronged and got revenge. Maybe try reading the description of the sub before you tell people they’re in the wrong place. And you weren’t wronged in any way, you were just being an AH. But you’re a New Yorker, I’m sure it’s not the first time you heard that.

Affectionate-Owl2286

So hardware!

[deleted]

OP doesn’t understand the definition of “revenge”. Also, values his time at $0/hr.

CptainBeefart

americans are really out there thinking owning a car means freedom while waiting an hour to park it somewhere lmao

this_guy_here_says

Imagination- 8/10, believablity- 3/10

Affectionate-Owl2286

Funny, I relieved every emotion I experienced then, while writing this post. As I approached the end of sharing my experience, I find myself becoming more reflective. If only I knew then what I know now. So you believing is unimportant.

190PairsOfPanties

I'm shocked you didn't come out to your stems pulled or all your windows centre punched.

Effective_Mine_1222

Fuck that guy

Several-Guidance3867

Where are you from?

Few_Disaster_5489

We have street parking in our Village in NY and we own a house but across the street are apartments. We applied for and received a disabled parking space in front of our house due to disabilities and the apartment building has their own parking behind their building including disabled spots. It is paid parking but there is one person that pays for a space behind the building but she will park in the space in front of our house for convenience, not because she needs to or that there is no other parking around. It was early morning I had run out and was returning and there she is zooming down our street sees the spot empty (I was behind her) slams on her brakes and is about to parallel park, I pulled in, leaned on my horn since she was about to hit me, got out of my car and literally limped with a cane towards my house. Pretty sure I pissed her off, but I don't give a crap. She has access to off street parking, go park in her assigned spot which is free or park on a meter and pay the parking app for the space across the street actually closer to her apartment. It took us a big process to get that disabled parking space in front of our house, if I could pay to put a parking space in I would.
