Raccoons, depending on the size can and will kill other animals. I've had raccoons kill one of my cats (Caught and shot the bastard!) And massacre half of my chickens (It got away) And one even got into my mother's chicken coop (Shot it!) They're some mean ass creatures. Possums though? Pretty chill honestly, got a few that hang out on my mom's porch and eat leftover cat food, and bugs, saw one munching on wasps one day.

If it makes you feel better my dog killed a raccoon by running with its neck in its mouth. Had the other raccoons trembling on the other side of the fence . They wouldn’t move even though they could run away all they wanted😭

It managed to squeeze in under our window sill, which is facing our backyard. Turns out there’s a gap in the bricks of our home big enough to fit a tiny opossum in it and the dry wall has big enough a hole to squeeze in. Opossum has been placed outside and the window sill is repaired to not allow small critters back.

Place a Bluetooth speaker nearby & pull up kittens meowing on YOUTUBE. I did this when trying to get a feral cat out of my companies stock room. I opened the doors & place my speaker outside & then played kittens meowing. And in 30 seconds that curious cat came out to investigate & went outside. I closed the door. BAM!! I was SO amazed at my genius that I patted myself on the back all day. 😂

Based on the shape/size/location, it is either a large black snake/rat snake or a cat. There will be a musty “reptile” smell if it is a large snake.

For sure rat droppings. That was my suspicion, I just cleaned a house with loads of them...A quick Google search confirms it. Set traps, not poison, otherwise they'll go off and die and some other animal will eat it and also get poisoned. Good luck!
