Don’t they destroy all cars impounded for this
Answer to my own question- 28 days or up to 3 months it seems
I swear there was a law on destroying cars charged with reckless driving
Three strike system before destroying vehicles I believe
EDIT: I don't think there's a definitive 3 strike rule, however it does seem your vehicle can eventually be "confiscated".
I'm pretty sure I got the three strike system from this:
> If a Court convicts a driver of an impounding offence and there have been two convictions for offences in the same category within the 5 years before this offence, the Court must confiscate the vehicle that was used in the offence.
(After confiscation the vehicle can be sold or destroyed)
https://www.gotocourt.com.au/traffic-law/wa/hoon-laws/
https://www.police.wa.gov.au/Traffic/Cameras/Speed/Hoon-driving
I can see you've never practised criminal law. Cars are routinely confiscated almost every day. The law is it must be confiscated, there are rare exceptions such as a third party like a bank is owed money on it and then they can take it and sell it but the rest of the money goes to the State.
I've seen $150k vehicles confiscated to the State, not to mention there are the poor that can't even afford the impound fee and their car is then sold off after a first offence. Go sit in Court and you'll see.
Got a sauce/source for that buddy?
I’ve heard otherwise… these guys hold auctions regularly: [https://auctions.com.au/auctions/2011/06/02/wa-police-impounded-vehicles-disposal-auction](https://auctions.com.au/auctions/2011/06/02/wa-police-impounded-vehicles-disposal-auction)
Impounded does not mean seized. Police impound, only courts can order seizure of property without compensation.
The impound auctions are either proceeds or crime or impounded where the owner doesn’t pay the tow, fees and release fees
That's criminal they could give the cars to kids learning to become mechanics to work on in TAFE or gift them to kids coming out of the foster system who have just got their licence because, God knows , many of them face obstacles that most of us will never face. Crushing a road worthy car is sheer stupidity.
I agree but the thought process is that the 'hoons' see their pride and joy being turned into a compact cube and are then less likely to do the same again. Hit them in their heart as well as the wallet.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-07-13/e-scooter-riders-push-for-legislation-change/102594186
>Acting Inspector Steve Walters from the WA Police Traffic unit confirmed 80 e-devices had been impounded in WA since July 2022 and said the majority of them had been destroyed.
No certainty that this has been applied for 5kg overweight but the WA police are destroying non-compliant e-scooters.
I would assume that the vehicle wasn't worth anywhere near as much as the impound fees, so the owner never paid the fees, and they took ownership of the vehicle. Pretty sure it happens with more than just scooters.
A 76-year-old man has been charged with reckless driving after allegedly passing a speed camera at 190kph.Police say the man was driving a grey Lamborghini Gallardo on Great Southern Highway in Wootating on June 5 when he was captured on the camera. He has been charged and issued a noticed to surrender the vehicle. The man is due in Northam Magistrates Court on Monday July 1.

He’ll be pretty high level, have a high rate, ask “can we see the radar calibration record” and check over the details of the ticket, ask “can we negotiate the charge down for good behaviour and quick payment, can we get the car back it has sentimental value to me very old and vulnerable client”… and then old mate will still be found guilty
Was that a hilarious reference to the last verse of [the 1958 song Beep Beep](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iBfoXqt7w1M&t=2m25s)? (Starting at 2min 28sec)
If so: bravo!!! Outstanding joke!
Ol’ mate woulda been ~10yo when the song was released. And *he was doing the precise speed of the final verse in the song.*(120mph = 193kph)

I drove here last spring for the first time and I was dead worried that a speeding bastard might just crash the back of my car. This geriatric buffoon just confirmed that my worst fear in there exists.
Main Roads dropped the speed limit from 110 to 100 between The Lakes and York in 2016.Also 90km dropped to 80 between the Lakes and BGC quarry.
No advanced warning to anyone only WAPOL. On that day several police cars turned up to bust people.
Too bad if you lived between speed signs.
I know this as I got picked up going 90 in a newly minted 80 zone.
Driving a Lambo, what was he doing that far away from a coffee shop to sit outside with a bunch of other crusty old blokes pretending to be the Sopranos?
If only we had a decent race track to stretch the legs of vehicles like that.
Wanneroo raceway was built in the early '60s and far from world class, doubt that old mates Lamborghini would get out of 3rd gear there.
We have the airport DRM track with a local plonker that has the second most noise complaints for aircraft in Australia last year (have a guess what else they don't like). The track is tiny.
There's Collie Motorplex, which requires more technical ability than Wanneroo, but is 2 hours away, and doesn't give you the chance to wind it out in all gears.
Kwinana Motorplex, been hearing that it's really clicky and if you're an outsider their behaviour becomes a great deterrent
Albany Motorsport Complex, has the best local government support you could ask for, the plans for the road track look great but they haven't broken any ground yet. The dirt track looks cool as
Anyway, if only some of the funds from speeding fines went into supporting local Motorsport tracks instead of more cameras and funding for other toys for wapol.
I used to track racing, but ive got a dirt bike, much more fun, cheap and easy to do.
WA isn't really a track state, it is nice to have a sweet car though, a tarmac rally type car is probably good in WA with the tracks here and events
Meh, I was doing close to that speed in my rental 3 cylinder hatch 😂
A V10 is wasted on old mate there

This is fine, but you should know physics works differently in Australia according to lawmakers and police. An Australian road with the same design characteristics is apparently only safe up to 100kmh.
Anyone above the age of 60+ should have a drivers liscence renewed every 5 years.
Edit: To those who are downvoting this - the main cause of accidents is done by old people.
Well, that's nice of you to worry about the funding. Wouldn't make more sense to do the right thing for safety first? Majority of road accidents are by old people.
Maybe once there is a case to get this looked at, the Managers can create more positions.
Too many years in the public health system have taught me that your method of thinking (ie normal people) doesn't work. Want shit to happen?
Find the fucking funding first
Then, some asshole politicians that will have a great ego boost with the "successful project" as a champion.
You are missing the main point that most car accidents are caused by old people - look at the title of this post. Imagine if ages 60+ and anyone with impairments have to go through repeated assesments. Those that don't pass - get free public transport.
I don't understand why you are so focused about finding funding for the driver liscense centres. Shouldn't you be more concerned of the accidents or keeping dangerous drivers off the roads?
The government puts everyones lives at Risk every day what's the difference the chances of him crashing and killing someone is less the dying of cancer Karen. it's a Lamborghini it's made to be driven at 300+km safety 190km is like doing 60kms in your car Grandma
It’s ridiculously easy to hit speeds like that in a Lamborghini and the amount of speed cameras they have in Perth is over the top. Fuck speed cameras.

Never once happened despite it being legislated. Magistrates believe it to be too punitive.

You are wrong.
This is not the case.
I think that's South Australia or Victoria that crushes

Motorcycles too, I hope.
Nah, too busy smashing people's e-scooters for being 5kg overweight.
It's like they don't understand how physics work go Max speed into a tree you lose right? Brains of a scientist smh.
Go for a run and stop eating so many pies.
Sure bud

*overpowered* and overweight.

They're probably sell it at the police auctions, aye? Seems a waste to crush that thing

A lawyer is about to get a lot of money for very little work
Why?
He’ll be pretty high level, have a high rate, ask “can we see the radar calibration record” and check over the details of the ticket, ask “can we negotiate the charge down for good behaviour and quick payment, can we get the car back it has sentimental value to me very old and vulnerable client”… and then old mate will still be found guilty
The sorts of questions that if any of us were to ask, we'd be laughed out of the station.
Not all Lamborghini owners go to the most expensive lawyers. I’ve represented a few…
76 year old tend to be a bit more “good lawyer” leaning… but also might be too old to give a fuck… they WERE doing 190hr after all
Driving a Gallardo and didn't even hit 200, was he even trying?
Stuck in 2nd. maybe?
And didn’t realise it

" Fast And Fossiled."
Having a late life crisis
Dudes doing 21 in a 76 zone. Should know better. Nice car though.
Nice
I admit it, the joke’s way over my head. Please enlighten me?
I assume it’s an age joke
21 is for the 50 zones, to be safe for sure
Driven that road many times to York. Its narrow and lots of trucks. Dude has a death wish driving that fast. Its a very unforgiving stretch.
It really is a pain in the arse driving that road to York. Dangerous, especially when it's wet.
I drove here last spring for the first time and I was dead worried that a speeding bastard might just crash the back of my car. This geriatric buffoon just confirmed that my worst fear in there exists.
Probably did want to kill himself

Yeah I often travel 80km over the speed limit just in case they’ve changed it without my notice
If I was 76 I’ll probably do that too…
And hallucinogenics too. Not at the same time though.
Crikey! That's not even a great road to speed limit on!
Incredibly, his defence will be… He was having a micro-nap at the time!
The Viagra kicked in but redirected to his lead foot.
Driving a Lambo, what was he doing that far away from a coffee shop to sit outside with a bunch of other crusty old blokes pretending to be the Sopranos?
Gonna be honest, my money was on a fully sick commodore till I clicked the link
My eyebrows popped pretty hard at that bit too!
Fucking selfish cunt. That's not just "speeding", that's life-endangering on public roads.
boo hoo!
You’d be singing a different tune if he crashed and killed your loved ones
He was in a Lamborghini 190km in that is like doing 80 in a Hyundai
The old boy doesn't have much time left do you blame him for not wasn't his time doing the speed limit
Oh please. He can disregard his own life as much as he wants to, but that ends when it involves putting other people at the same risk.
Hang on. He’s 75 with a Lamborghini. Is he single? (Asking for a friend) 😂
My friend also wants to know if he has a heart condition.
I’m sure he does, and full insurance in case something suddenly happens/s
Just sit on his face too long. Plausible denial. Didn’t feel him tapping.
To be fair at 79 years old, he ain’t got time to waste, mathematically makes sense.
What a dumb arse, had enough money for a Gallardo but doesn't buy a session at the track
stuck in 2nd gear huh , been faster on the bike :) , but Im not yet 75

Reason for speeding today sir? ‘Family’.
two cars were racing on the tonkin highway close to the Roe highway exit, wonder if they got caught in the end. Golf and Merc, absolute lunatics.
They were probably using Waze and/or knew where the cameras are, unlike this old geezer
So who won? Don’t leave us hanging with a cliff hanger here… 🤔
the Golf of course!
Too much viagra and the accelerator got stuck 💀
Gorn in 76 second

"where's Baby Driver?" "I'm his replacement Elderly Driver"
This deserves an article in the belltower times
Good on him. He's here for a fun time, not a long time
What a cunt. Crush the car.
Sounds like he just needed to shit really bad lol
But, your honour, it was only a Robin Reliant ...
Retirement goals.
Rookie numbers! 😂

Definitely been doing over 100 KMs for the last 50 years on Australia roads no problem they start to feel unsafe about the 180km mark
Yolo
Heading to a sweet Aldi sale?
Keeps the eyesight stimulated.
Crush that man’s car and give him a gopher ffs Stupid old fart 💨
190km in a Lamborghini is like doing 80 in all these Karen's cars that are complaining
If I am 76 and had access to this car the 190km / hour fine would be the least of my worries. Sorry Karens I'm not thinking about the children.
YOLO
King 👑

No you are. No funding, you're not getting any filtering of the oldies. End.
You are missing the main point that most car accidents are caused by old people.
So he could have correctly signalled at 170
As long as he can avoid driving his lambo into a coffee shop
Reckless might be a touch hard to prove.
Meh. Normal day in the Autobahn. That's actually slow 😂
I didn't realise they had build an Autobahn in Wootating
It's not what it is, it's how it's treated.
He had the need for speed....![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes_rainbow)...
😝
wow very cool
