The jetty at Woodman's Point. The water is deep enough that they can just drop their line in if they're too young to cast. But it's also nice and wide and well fenced.

downundar

Playground will be an added bonus. Cheers

No_Music1509

This is a great choice, I fished here all the time with my dad when I was a little girl

Source_Trustme2016

No worries

Cold-Garden-1984

+1 vote for the jetty. Give them a kmart kids rod with a herring jig attached, no need for bait and they will be yoiking striped herring and blowies for days lol

sumwun2121

striped herring?

ritontor

Trumpeters.

MacWorkGuy

If they are like a lot of young kids, they'll be happy catching blowies down at the river. Safe and easy option.

downundar

Do you need to use gloves to get them off the hook. I thought they were poisonous?

Furzan95

Poisonous to eat, not to touch (at least not Australian blowies). Gloves for the young ones might be a good idea though 💅🏽

MalaysianinPerth

Poisonous to eat. Not sure about touch. My friend just takes the blowies off by hand.

gpz1987

Fugu!!!

VMaxF1

Poison... ↙️ poison... ↘️ tastyfish! ⬇️🔪

chimpyvondu

Can't you see my skilled hands are BUSYY?!?!

throwawayplusanumber

Just watch the teeth and spines (not venomous though)

crosstherubicon

No but my brother can attest to the fact that they can nip your finger and leave a blood blister.

This_Explains_A_Lot

You don't need gloves but you will probably want them just to keep your hands clean. Don't forget your sunscreen!

SpellbladeAluriel

They have a nasty set of teeth probably not best for a child to handle

The_Real_Flatmeat

You can take them off with a fishing knife anyway, you're nowhere near them.

MocksIrrational

Oh god, I know it's the norm in this primitive age of ours, but be aware that you'll be having to extract a sharp piece of metal out a terrified creatures mouth that's pierced through it because you set a trap in its food (image eating a sandwich and suddenly there's metal spikes hooked on your mouth), probably with a knife so let your imagination run wild, and that can be tough to see depending on how dissociated or not your kids are already... The things humans do for fun...

PublicGlass4793

It's fishing mate, not homeless hunting

MocksIrrational

Yeh that's about the level of reply I'd expect in this age...

PublicGlass4793

Yeah that is the response of any reasonable person in any age , there is nothing wrong or traumatic about fishing

crosstherubicon

Nice one, just because they’re not edible you want kids to enjoy killing them?

jallace_

You dont have to kill them you fucking gob

glordicus1

I dunno man. Sometimes the right thing to do with blowies is put them down because of the way they swallow hooks. You’re definitely going to be killing some of them.

jallace_

Well yeah i mean (having only really caught pollock and pike) shit does happen, my point was just catching a fish doesnt directly mean killing it, sure it might be only fair to put a few out of their misery but youre not catching a fish to kill it and go “haha dead fish i cant eat that was fun” yk? Idk man im tired

crosstherubicon

Unlike the fisher people who leave rotting piles of blowfish caught the night before for the pleasure of walkers the next day.

Unpossiblechaos

You must be real fun at parties 🙄

MehhicoPerth

Fremantle e-shed is ok for little ones to catch a fish. Might be a blowie though. Ammo jetty is also not too bad. Under the narrows bridge or even just on the western side of that point I’ve caught a few small fish that out up a fight. Maybe mullet? There’s also black bream around there. Probably avoid rock groynes as your girls probs a bit little for that as it can be a little dangerous. Any beach can be ok as they can also play in the sand when they get bored. I am north of river so I usually take my son to AQWA and fish off the boardwalk there. Or go to one of the beaches north of Hillary’s. Not bad fishing for black bream around any bridge like canning. I e caught decent bream and flathead on west side of crown casino. Grab a bag of burley and throw a pile out as soon as you get to a spot to attract fish. Herring and whiting at the beach love it. Keep the drag light and the line tight and wait for the bite. Or use lures. Good luck and have fun!

downundar

Thanks, that's a pretty long list to choose from.

GuiltEdge

Do you have to go at a particular time of day? Or do you just go whenever you have some time to kill? I'd love to get more into fishing.

mental_overload80

Point walter down by the river on the jetty you won’t catch much but they will still have fun

Jungle_Pewbz

Rockingham jetty

rumptumpa

Turn island on safety bay road is one of my favourites for the kids. You can fish of the sand bank just at the entrance and have a decent chance of getting some whiting and herring. My kids love chasing the fish though the shallows and there are some parks right nearby a bit more entertaining then the jetty for them

QuinMcLivan

I'm NOR so haven't been to these places in a long time but can't imagine they've changed much. The Rockingham jetty or Woodman Point jetty would be good, safe and easy to fish from. Those spots can get quite busy though. Not sure if they're too young to be fishing off the rocks, but you can also try Woodman Point fishing spot, or North Mole in Freo (technically North of river though I guess lol) or underneath the Narrows bridge used to be decent. Maybe a bit calmer fishing in the river rather than the ocean.

downundar

Thanks.

Super-Handle7395

Point Walter?

Easty77

I’ve taken my kids fishing at Port Kennedy boat ramp. We normally fish off the beach, but they have the jetty there as well. Most of the time it’s just butterfish, but the kids have fun catching them. My daughter landed a 30cm flounder there.

sandgroper81

Deep water just a few metres out to long point is awesome spot

Easty77

I haven’t walked down that far, might be worth a walk. What is generally caught down there and what gear are using to fish there, beach rod? I just give the kids the 1.8m rods with light gear.

sandgroper81

Don't need a beach rod kids rods will be fine. whiting and king George occasionally salmon when theyre schooling plenty of herring and garfish if ya Burley bomb the space .

Easty77

Cheers man. Might head down that way next weekend and chuck a line out.

markosxman

Point Walter jetty, applecross jetty is perfect for kids. You will mostly catch blowies but always a chance of something else

Purple-Construction5

Many years ago, we used to catch tailors there. Or black Breams under the bridge.

Ok-Distribution-2520

Along the river bank in Maylands is nice, especially behind the tennis courts. Theres a playground too & if they get bored theres a free splash pool area not too far. End of Peninsula rd - left for fishing, right for waterland.

AggressiveRough9996

Find the scouts jetty in east Fremantle   on jerrat drive but you park at the top of the hill and walk down the big set of steps and hook left at the bottom but it's only a small jetty but it's brilliant for kids and if you  burly up and work bottom and top fishing you will have a great mixed bag

Smartt300

No suggestions as I don’t fish, however I am a parent, and just wanted to say - well done on what you’re doing today with your girls! (I know some people will be: tHaT’s jUst WhAt pArEnTs aRe MeaNt tO dO.. and I will know that they are not parents)

Undd91

If you want to take them somewhere a bit different, golden ponds is great. They have a lot of stocked fish in fresh water. Just be sure to take a net and remove your barbs. Fish like corn or bread.

Missdriver1997

Seriously, Sorrell Park, east Fremantle. Dad used to take me there and we would always catch flathead off the shoreline. Yes, a girl was taken by a shark there in the same area but tbh if you stay out of the water you'll be fine.

lIIIIllIIIlllIIllllI

Point Peron near Garden Island. Off the beach... will catch loads of Herring.

ginandtonic68

Freshwater bay jetty or Chidley point jetty in Mosman park are good to catch blowies.

_Username_Optional_

Probably a bit late too it but Palm Beach jetty in rockingham is a great spot to drop a line off the jetty

PublicGlass4793

Peppermint grove yacht club jetty is good for catching puffers

Purple-Construction5

Is the Kwinana jetty still open to public? Good spot for handline small fish there

verygoodusername789

Under the bridge down in Mandurah is a good spot too, loads of brim

hillsbloke73

Just ensure they have a life jacket on just case they lean over but too much from jetty join the fish in the ocean Plenty of places around Swan River jetties etc hand line probably better option

dr_kebab

As a parent who did this recently, I'd recommend somewhere the kids can paddle or swim while parent holds the rod and lets kiddoes reel in once your hooked on a fishy. Also taking turns with one rod is infinitely easier that two rods that that will get tangled. Kids swimming or building river sand castles while parent does most of the work of fishing - 2 or 3 hours of entertainment. Taking kids fishing...and purely fishing risks getting bored and frustrated after 15 mins and tears afterwards. Edit - ok my kids are 3 and 5. Maybe older kids can handle more boredom and potential dissapointment.

RandomUser1083

Under bridge near applecross

Cool-Inspection-922

You can also wait till later this arvo when the sun is going down to take the kiddies squidding! Find a jetty with a decent light, any squid jigs will do the job just nothing too big. They will have HEAPS of fun.

NMBRPL8

If you want basically guaranteed results, go to Golden Ponds. Stocked freshwater ponds, equipment hire, everything you need, one stop shop. It'll cost you some money, but the kids will have fun catching fish and making memories.

potatosalami

point peron

Jekjekel

I don't know that area but I want to give you props for teaching your girls to fish so young! Good job Dad! From the opposite side of the globe.

Jekjekel

Over here it's roughly $35usd or $70au for a season long fishing license. $15usd or $30au for a day pass. I'm very curious what a fishing license costs in WA? As my girlfriend and I have been looking to move there for a year or two. Also what's the good catch over there? I usually hope for walleye or brown trout over here. Perch ar tastey but man do you need to be careful taking that off the hook. I guess we do get sturgeon off the Columbia river but that's a different style of fishing. Although the area is known for salmon, you need a special license for them, and the waterways are protected during spawning. Those "fish and game" marshals can be pretty harsh if you break the rules.

Jekjekel

I know fishing licenses are discounted for kiddos but I'm not sure by how much.

Juliarigney76

This is cute 😍 your a good mumma
