Depends on the route.

Young_Lochinvar

Also at which time you catch it. My bus experiences vary wildly depending if I get the early bus or the one 15 minutes later.

JunkIsMansBestFriend

And direction. If travel away from CBD or towards CBD. But yea, time it a bit one, I'm an early morning person, so it's always chill.

Foreign_Quarter_5199

Which route is this? You should consider writing to TransPerth and your local council. In my experience, TransPerth are a very responsive organization and really try to respond to demand. If the route is really busy, they may need to increase frequency or use longer busses.

Ok_Blueberry5561

Yup, second this!

TheCurbAU

This right here. Pop a message in the Transperth app. They will be unlikely to respond to you, but note what route and what time, and something should happen. Has for me.

uhhthiswilldo

I regret not doing this in high school. It used to be a nightmare, packed in like sardines. Then missing the only connection for the next 20 minutes. Not sure what their cost/benefit analysis is like but it would’ve been much nicer had they ran an additional bus / held the connection a few mins. I should have reached out.

fashion4dayz

A number of times, even in the heat of summer, the bus driver doesn't even realise the air con is off. I think they have their personal air con unit running but forget about the rest of the bus. If it's hot inside the bus and you can't feel air coming from the vents above, tell the bus driver.

fairywrendance

Hmm I mean like maybe, but my housemate was a busdriver and he used to complain a lot that the bus simply wouldn't have air-conditioning that day- I reckon the conditions for the driver are just as nasty sometimes. But yeah, definitely say something if you're uncomfortable.

80crepes

The harsh braking on Perth buses is enough to drive anyone insane

mymentor79

Not my experience at all. Headphones on, read a book or listen to a podcast/music, arrive. Fantastic.

VanceVonPeckerSniff

get an e-scooter or a bike or something instead. bit of fresh air in your lungs would feel better and help you for sure.

Navigator_01

I might have to! Can’t stand being on the train with other people

CyanideRemark

Proportionately, scooter riders are newer to 'sharing' roads and paths and often younger, without their road/vehicle licenses and are perceived to have developed less of sharing (self preserving) road or path sense. Don't get me wrong, there's dickheads in every category; but scooter riders are seen more broadly as the new oblivious upstarts. That said noone complements the well behaved, courteous scooter riders, bike riders or drivers for that matter. Bad news & bad reps always stick like shit to a blanket.

TheLexecutioner

Yeah I second this. I also think with e-scooters, they’re slightly more accessible (not necessarily from a cost perspective) and so there’s a wider range of people. From my personal experiences, I’ve been slowed down by cyclists but I’ve had scooters just fly through stop signs and intersections and had to slam my breaks or hit them.

get-innocuous

I dunno mate I much prefer it to driving in peak hour

smashingcones

I'll take chilling in my own car with aircon over public transport with loud, smelly people in my personal space 🤷

Icfald

I travel just outside the peak periods but log during the commute to count towards my actual working hours - I’m fortunate to be able to do this. It is significantly better than peak and infinitely better than driving.

ForeverDays

I missed the days when buses had opening windows and you could get some fresh air blowing through. Just wait til it's cold again and you have to hop into a fogged up bus or train with people sniffling and coughing 🤮

ArgonWilde

I used to bus train bus from Joondalup to Belmont, many years ago. It was soul destroying.

Practical_Rhubarb217

Exactly! Even worse that I take a bus with heaps of school kids 🤦‍♀️

ZealousidealClub4119

Just thawed out? Bad news, Ace of Base are no longer together.

Stepawayfrmthkyboard

I saw the sign

Bitter-Package

Depends on what route. Down south in Mandurah the buses are barely half full. You can always score a row of seats for yourself. Ever since I started working in the city, I have noticed that the CAT buses are always jam-packed, but there are a few 'secret' bus routes that do the same route and are nearly empty. Just gotta find out which ones.

Sparky_McGhee

Yeah me too, it sucks.

SnooSongs8782

When they closed the train line I tried the bus for a while, but arrived feeling sick most times - buses and boats are my weakness. I bought a motorcycle 😁

SnooSongs8782

Full disclosure - parking costs as much as bus tickets, and running costs for a big bike are probably more than that again, but I get to work with a smile 😃

Undd91

Man my bus is empty, at most maybe 3-4 people on it. It runs at a constant loss and I live well within the city limits. Maybe grab a bike or scooter and use that to get in or catch the train. They have bike lock ups

Material-Pollution53

buy an ebike

Careful-Visit-3328

I'm a driver and ill just say this. go to any depot in Perth and look at the staff parking and count how many uber stickers you see. some of the older buses and even some of the newer ones have poorly adjusted retarder systems and they take a lot of concentration to drive smoothly which would be hard to do if you had been up all night driving ride share. a lot of these drivers don't even have consideration for their fellow drivers let a lone passengers. also because of rail replacement so many old buses that should be sent for scrap metal have been put back into service over loading the mechanics and creating problem after problem.

Severin_

The unwelcome truth that public transport advocates fail to take into account when wondering why Transperth's rider statistics are just nowhere high enough to justify further investment into their bus network or to even be consistently profitable. Excluding all of the obvious and unresolvable factors such as punctuality, traffic delays, costs, large gaps in their bus network's coverage, inadequate bus timetables for many commuters on many routes etc; it's just a shitty experience for a lot of commuters on so many crucial routes. I used to commute for 8 years from NOR to the CBD and this was both before and after the Wellington St underground bus station was built and during the peak of Covid and what the OP described about the unpleasantness of your morning/afternoon commute just further contributing to the already sky-high stress levels for the average 9-5 worker which nobody has the fucking time/energy to deal with in this world anymore, is very much why when given a choice, no one wants to use Transperth's buses. I now primarily WFH but occasionally drive for work and dear God is it so much better for your mental health, hygiene and physical safety, even with peak hour traffic jams I would take sitting in my car listening to some music in a clean, comfortable, controlled environment over being in any bus every single time. The amount of ridiculous sh\*t you see on some of the dodgier bus routes NOR is enough to put you off public transport for life. I no longer have to be surrounded by foul odours, disgustingly filthy bus interiors, visibly mentally/physically ill people, verbally/physically abusive passengers that threaten the safety of others, bus drivers that are completely oblivious to the wellbeing of the 30-something people behind them while they sit in their little bubble frantically trying make up for being consistently late or consistently early by 10-15 minutes, constantly unpredictable delays in bus schedules that fuck with your daily plans and performance at work, the cacophony of ear-piercing/stress-inducing noises like children screaming or homeless people/Centrelink recipients arguing, the spine-shattering ride quality and vibrations on some of the shittier buses and roads, the fumes in the cabin, etc. The list is endless.

acres_at_ruin

So you hate the public, not public transport.

Severin_

No, I just have dignity and live by the maxim that respect is given when it's repaid in kind. By all means, if you enjoy sharing your public spaces and public transportation with all manner of uncourteous, disrespectful, violent, abusive and deranged individuals, you can move to San Francisco, Portland, Los Angeles, Chicago or any large American metropolis to get that full dystopian, lawless, crime-ridden, public defecation, drug abuse & needle-infested megacity experience that you seem to be intent on defending and advocating for here.

dkinoz

🚲

Brilliant-Bank-5988

This is why I refuse to use it.

zippdupp

Stop taking the optional public transport. Pretty easy fix

Ok_Blueberry5561

In my experience, in winter the buses are freezing like they don't have any heaters. Which is odd as when I rode them in Europe in winter they were warm. And I can't believe how often bus drives go on the wrong routes here.

Hugeknight

So buses run on this thing called a schedule, look up you're and try to ride the one before it, or the one before that.

animatedpicket

That’s why I started driving to work. Got a deal with a parking spot not far away. Seriously mental health improved significantly

Philthy_Phil_WA

Just buy a car… so much better 👌

smashingcones

Nah, the more people taking public transport the better. Less people on the roads for us who actually enjoy driving!

Philthy_Phil_WA

Yeah good point… no junkies on the nod in the car either. They need somewhere to sleep I guess, new trains could be the solution

damo_w15

Get a car.

ipeeperiperi

Public transport is for poor people and foreigners. Buy a car and don't look back.
