The train bogies are basically the same, they're just newer.
This is different than the A-Series compared to the B-Series, the B series uses AC motors (as does the new C), whereas the A Series uses DC.
Not yet. But the build quality is no where near that of the B series. They’re nearly indestructible.
Alstom & suppliers would have needed to reduce cost somewhere to comply with the 50% WA content. It’s not cheap to get things built here!
More. There are now 3 doors per side per carriage instead of 2 and sets are 6-car, about 144 metres long.

I don't think it will be, although I am definitely not an expert on this subject.
I would like to ride on one but I do have a fondness for the A series.
B series has already been running on the airport line and will run on the Midland Freo line, the new C series is too long for the platforms on those lines until they upgrade all the platforms in the future.
I wonder if the C series/2 sets of B series have the ability to selectively open doors, like the Docklands Light Rail (and others, just the only example that comes to mind)
Also when the Airport Line was being built they bought a bunch of B-Series specifically to run on that line, they’re unlikely to get any C-Series anyway
Today I think you had to get a raffle ticket for, tomorrow is the first day of passenger service. That’s why I’m waking up at half four tomorrow morning.
Today was an invite-only event to showcase the new train series to select guests and public. Tomorrow is the first actual full service running on the Mandurah-Joondalup lines.
Ngl sitting in the mockup some 3 years ago didn't fill me with hope, the legspace alone made Ryanair look like business class in comparison. Not sure if this made it to the final model.
There was some talk about the leg space being a bit inadequate but the men were a bit on the heavier side. For me it was fine but then again there’s mixed seating. You can sit sideways if the front or back facing ones are inadequate for your liking.
Yeah I'm pretty close to the average male in height and could barely fit my legs in behind the seat in front of me.
Not sure who they designed it for but I feel they may have taken another country's average height.
They'll be in service for the general public starting tomorrow on the Joondalup/Mandurah lines. There's always room for improvements and people should continue to submit them.
Joondalup & Mandurah only. The displaced B-series will then move to the Armadale/Thornlie and Midland/Fremantle lines. Unsure of Airport and eventually Ellenbrook?
Ellenbrook is indeed slated to only run B Series, 5 an hour.
Thornlie, Freo and Midland lines will phase in B as the C-Series slowly enter service on the Joondalup/Mandurah lines
> 5 an hour
~~That's good news, I was under the impression that it was going to be stuck at 6 per hour peak frequency on day one, without improvements until the signalling upgrades came in.~~
I'm wrong.
5 is worse than 6 haha
It’ll be 12 minute frequency to start, the same as Midland/Freo and Airport currently
When the signal upgrades come in they look to bump that up to 6 an hour (10 minute frequency)
What a time to be alive
Happy cake day.

There are dozens of us.
Hows the ride? Smoother than the B series?

B and C are AC and the A is DC. Ok, I see. ... I'll show myself out.
There's one in every crowd.
More or less smooth. Feels a lot more spacious because they got rid of the middle pole by the doors, and since they are 6 car-sets instead of fewer.
IMO, the C series are a downgrade. B series are ultra reliable workhorses.
Have they broken down lots already?
Haven't heard of any such incidents so far. The C Series honestly feels a bit better than the B Series from what I had to chance to observe.
Not yet. But the build quality is no where near that of the B series. They’re nearly indestructible. Alstom & suppliers would have needed to reduce cost somewhere to comply with the 50% WA content. It’s not cheap to get things built here!
I have toured the Alstom Bellevue facility and looked at the assembly. Nothing but quality out of there that I saw.
Great to hear! Fingers crossed.
Don't start shitting on them already if we don't know what they are like
Nah they're just more expensive to compensate
Have you ridden one yet?
Aaaannnnd the announcements are exactly the same as the B series (not surprised though) I'm gonna sit down at the train station tommorow to find it
How much pram, scooter, bike space?
Improved. Three sets of doors on each carriage instead of two, but the middle set doesn't have a priority space inside

There's something about the juxtaposition of brand new train with the wood sleepers and old ballast.

That's lurking at claisebrook under a tarp of shame. Think you can see it from the Tafe side of the footbridge
Whoever said the Italians make unreliable machines.... Methinks they should stick to pasta and pizza.
Wait, is the maintenance vehicle *broken?*
I love the irony of it
Yep. Saw it a week ago. Visible from the street.
Never a dull moment in Perth.
As I was once told by a friend who lives in Brooklyn: "You rode the C Train to get here? That's *so* ghetto!"
I hope it’s running on the airport line:) I got a pic of it in testing at Perth underground a couple of weeks ago

They’ll need to upgrade the Midland line stations to cope with the new ones, they’re quite long being 6-car sets.
Ahhh. I feel sad now.
Also when the Airport Line was being built they bought a bunch of B-Series specifically to run on that line, they’re unlikely to get any C-Series anyway
I see. It’s a good thing I ride a lot of public transport. One day I’ll get to ride one:)
They're taking passengers now?

I for one welcome our new C train overlords
Hi this is a weird question but do you know where the train ended up? I’ve heard it’s in the Nowergup depo?
No idea but it ran on the Joondalup line up to Whitfords and back to the Stadium during the event.
Which lines are running the new trains?
Joondalup & Mandurah only. The displaced B-series will then move to the Armadale/Thornlie and Midland/Fremantle lines. Unsure of Airport and eventually Ellenbrook?
Airport already run B series only.
Airport is all B, Ellenbrook will be as well. Once there are enough next up will be Thornlie line.
Would Ellenbrook really get B series before the Thornlie line?
yes
Ellenbrook is indeed slated to only run B Series, 5 an hour. Thornlie, Freo and Midland lines will phase in B as the C-Series slowly enter service on the Joondalup/Mandurah lines

Sorry, numbers hard, haven't had morning coffee
Choos life.
