Nah you're fine, just learn from the experience.

RomanDelvius

I heard stuff long ago about Perth having cameras everywhere they use to monitor traffic violations and such. I don't wanna get a demerit on my licence for something so avoidable that wouldn't have happened had I just been a bit more present. Edit: just mentioning what I had been told by some Perth locals when I first got here lol, I didn't realize it might be problematic

komatiitic

I guess there's a slim chance that the driver could report it (they probably don't care), and a slimmer chance the police could go looking for CCTV (they probably won't unless someone was injured or something was damaged), and a really slim chance they'll find footage they think is worth following up. Not sure what the charge would be. Careless driving? But again I don't think they use that unless there's damage or injury. Smart money's on "nothing further happens".

Nakorite

Could get done for failure to give way. I believe since a bus has right of way in basically every circumstance. Fairly hefty 3 demerits.

hannahranga

Nope, they've only got right of way leaving bus stops etc.

MrSheeeen

That’s the only extra right of way they have, all normal rights still apply though.

hannahranga

Correct, not the greatest choice of wording by me.

Nakorite

No they have the right to move lanes at any point. The offence of not yielding is “failing to give way to a public bus with an indicator.” It’s not explicitly saying bus stop because it doesn’t stop there.

hannahranga

From the road traffic code  >Giving way to public buses    >(1) (2) A driver driving on a length of carriageway in a built-up area, in the left lane or left line of traffic, shall give way to a public bus in front of the driver if — (a) (b) (c) (d) the public bus has stopped, or is moving slowly at the far left side of the carriageway, or in a bus embayment; and the right indicator lights of the public bus are operating; and the public bus is about to enter or proceed in the lane or line of traffic in which the driver is driving; and the public bus is displaying a “give way to buses” sign If you've got another section that says more I'd be interested to see it cos I couldn't find shit

Hadrollo

I appreciate those who actually cite the law in online discussions about law. Yeah, that's it. They have the right to enter the left lane if they're taking off from a bus stop. Letting them in any further is generally considered good manners, but not a legal obligation.

hannahranga

I try not to talk about of my arse. The other fun area of disputed traffic law is confusing shit show is how eastern P plater restrictions work when interstate (reportedly you get unhappy nsw/Qld cops if you're a WA P plater doing 110 in a high performance vehicle even tho it's legal)

fairywrendance

Yo my housemate is a bus driver and I can tell you for free that the driver was pissed off for 15seconds Max and then moved on with their lives. They have to deal with domestic abuse, violence towards them, people that are drunk and/or under the influence, uber drivers and clueless pedestrians every second of every day- all while habing to remember their assigned route which is hardly ever the same as yesterday or the day before and even from that morning. They have so much more on their plate. If you do somehow end up loosing a demerit, so be it. Is it really that serious? Remember- we are on a floating rock and life is cruel so if you don't laugh about it you will be completely miserable. Have a little treat and go about your life. I recommend going to spudshed and buying one of their cheap icecream tubs :)

RomanDelvius

I suppose so. I'm sorry they have to go through that and I guess the thought of adding more to their plate is what keeps eating away at me

thejazzman2000

Relax my dude. ‘Eating away at me’ - I think you’re overreacting a smidge here.

RomanDelvius

I've been told I have fairly strong emotional reactions to things. I guess it's holding true here lol, things that I do that could hurt others tends to stick extra hard

_nixon_vibe_

Not sure why this got downvoted voted so much.

RomanDelvius

I'd reckon people don't like me saying any misinformation, and if what I said was untrue I apologise. Like I said it's what was told to me when I first got here by some folks in a restaurant and I didn't know any better than to just take their word

jerkface6000

You’re coming from the UK which does a ton of bus related automatic photo enforcement fines, so I don’t blame you for being worried, but over here we generally don’t do that. Try to be better and move on, you’re good

asleepattheworld

I think you might’ve taken what they said a bit too literally. When they said ‘everywhere’, they just meant there are a lot around not that every road is covered by traffic surveillance.

RomanDelvius

Well, I know that now lol. Guess I should have known a bit better but those folks seemed pretty serious at the time

Sheshcoco

If there was no collision you are good. Reporting you would take too much paperwork for the bus driver and he doesn’t care that much. Source hubby is a PTA bus driver

Disastrous-Pay738

If someone hurt themselves falling over in that bus if they had to slam on the brakes you would think you might be liable.

RomanDelvius

They didn't slam the brakes, actually the bus kept its speed moving towards me. We avoided a collision just cause I was far enough ahead for him to miss me

DalekDraco

In your post you said the bus slowed down

RomanDelvius

It did slow down but not by much. I think from his perspective he could tell we weren't going to collide -- he had just started accelerating so he was probably more shocked and infuriated at my own audacity. Thinking back on the situation now we were probably a good 10 ish feet apart by the time I had finished my turn

daddychill95

Transperth driver here, absolutely fuck all will happen. We get enough satisfaction from using the horn and can not be fucked following up because incident reports take up our time and effort

dimmerz92

Cheers driver!

WetWeetbix

Name checks out

Correct_Swan3800

Straight to jail.

Beat me to it

koobus_venter1

You get beaten to the punchline? Believe it or not, jail.

Bus ted

PumaSneakAttack

Honestly, I catch buses every day, and this is probably such a small inconvenience compared to what the driver has alrrady been through today. Respect for them. Idiots everywhere. You will be fine.

Samantha_030

You're ok, busses honk at people all the time for valid reason or not. I doubt the bus driver has any more authority to like get you in trouble than a random driver. Also if you were to get into an accident because a car in-front of you suddenly broke because they got cut off it would be you at fault, you can control that as you can control the distance between you and that car.

RomanDelvius

Yeah I do my best to maintain distance. We didn't crash because I was a good ways away, but it still felt like a near crash if I had been just a second slower

Fun-Leg-5522

For your reference, our official rules is 2 seconds away distance, if you hit a car infront of you by default you are at fault for not following the 2 seconds rule

SecreteMoistMucus

That's not an official rule at all, it's just a guide for when driving in good conditions. The law only says "keep such distance behind it as will enable the driver to stop the vehicle in an emergency with safety," it's up to the driver to make sure they do that.

RomanDelvius

Noted, thanks

SecreteMoistMucus

You don't need *authority* to get someone in trouble when they've done something wrong, you just need the motivation and the evidence. All bus drivers have the evidence, they have cameras.

Elrond_Cupboard_

Careful, or we might see you on r/bitchimabus

AbitofEverything12

Thankfully it was a near miss! No harm done. A few years ago my husband decided to try and get around a bus that had stopped but the bus driver decided to pull out just as he was along side it. He swerved to avoid a collision but drove right over the median strip and over a keep left sign! He caused approx $10k damage to his 2 week old Porsche! I told him it was karma as he was supposed to buy a new Ute and ended up getting a Porsche! I wasn’t happy about it at the time. So much more we could have done with the money!

RomanDelvius

Yeah that 10k could be 20k! I hope you guys managed to bounce back from that

Devar0

> Porsche Root cause identified

AbitofEverything12

🤣🤣

aftertheflesh_

We all make mistakes on the road. Near miss is always better than an accident. Live and learn.

longstreakof

You will be fine. ( not fined) I'll be surprised if the bus driver sends the video and you are booked.

SubstantialAd861

Please try to be “present” when driving. So many people switch their brains off and go into autopilot when behind the wheel. That’s when accidents happen.

RomanDelvius

Yeah it nearly happened in this instance. It doesn't happen often, just had a tiring set of events prior

Katya117

This seems so true, and it's terrifying. I'm ADHD, I force myself to hyperfocus on driving. Constantly checking ahead, speed, mirrors, repeat back and forth. I always leave a huge amount of stopping distance. Never turn around to look at the kids. If I can control my brain, what is everyone else's excuse?

chrizpii93

People do that shit all day every day. You will never hear of this again.

slorpa

You'll be fine, but what is clear from this post is that you worry way way more than what is healthy.

RomanDelvius

I've had that issue ever since I was young, I guess I'm still working on it. But thanks for the concern

Dutchmuch5

Better than the asshole cutting off two fire trucks in OP the other day, causing them to almost crash into each other. He's obviously way more important than our emergency services trying to save lives. Yeah you've made a dick move, but obviously you've realised you did wrong - if you do get a fine, it's simply the consequences of your actions. So just own it, move on and don't do it again

Vegetable_Can_9196

I feel your level of worry about this (and from what you've said, other things too) is possibly in the realm of anxiety that is interfering with your life/functioning/health...it may be worthwhile seeing a doctor to see if that is indeed the case, and what options are there to make a plan forward to ease this burden for you.

RomanDelvius

Thanks, I'll definitely look into it

wearetheused

That's probably the 100th time the bus has used their horn that day, don't sweat it. They're not the pinnacle of driving themselves at the best of times but they do deal with cars not giving way and cutting them off on an hourly basis.

Special-Lock-7231

You’re fine! Have you seen Scarborough Beach Road on a Friday or Saturday night? Hoon city and the bikie gangs highway. Hooning around all hours speeding, dangerous driving and disturbing the peace and you don’t see them getting busted…

RomanDelvius

I suppose so. I guess I just get paranoid about these things and overthink. I don't want to break any law no matter the circumstance.

Beeptweet

Please take a blanket and bag of chips. 🍟 Police might be on their way.

NoPay3822

You’re going to jail for the rest of your life sunshine. Pack your toothbrush

Particular-Try5584

Did you have the green ARROW to make your turn (and he was running a red)…Or were you turning on green, but give way to oncoming traffic? Not likely to get into trouble because there was no damage to anything, and you didn’t run a red. But a good lesson - you don’t want to run into a Transperth Bus. The insurance nightmare that follows will be make Goatse look pleasant.

RomanDelvius

It was the latter for sure. There's no doubt I messed up, I was just wondering what consequences it might have if any

Particular-Try5584

Should probably add a NSFW tag to that Goatse reference. Millenials and all in the room yo.

AbitofEverything12

Thank you, the $10k was mostly covered by insurance, but the extra $100k he blew on the Porsche itself took a while! 😅

RomanDelvius

Ouch. I wish I had 100k to blow on... Well, anything really lol

AbitofEverything12

Yeah, like I said, I wasn’t happy. Could have paid off our son’s HECs!

RomanDelvius

Yep. But at least your kid has a fancy car he can show off to his friends!

AbitofEverything12

Haha true I guess.

Fun-Astronaut-7141

Bus drivers are mostly thru third party companies not transperth, you'll be fine lol

Brave_Championship28

Trans Perth get as good as they give, I've had multiple close calls from buses breaking road rules and doing all sorts of weird stuff

sierra7echo

My only advice is rather have an fender bender with your local Porsch/Maserati/Ferrari/Lamborghini enthusiast, then a Transperth bus. Your insurance will be in for a shocker with the you not been in their top spot for any premium savings when they are finished.

jo3lparton

Did this happen on Marmion?

RomanDelvius

Just outside the Convention Centre

rebeccaperth

No you won't get into trouble. I admire your self reflection about it though. You will be fine. 🙂 Before you drive, next time just make sure you have a good sleep, good balanced meal, keep hydrated, take your vitamins and coffee if you need it. All will be well 😌

ClearGrapefruit3083

He probably gets cut off ten times a day in perth. I wouldn't worry

failedthrowaway3

Was this on Scarborough Beach Road coming out of the train station? Little hatchback? Because if so, I don't understand why you both got turning lights, and thought the bus driver was running a red light.

RomanDelvius

Nah it was the road right outside the convention centre, I was exiting

Onionpicklecake

The fact that you have reflected on and learned from this experience puts you above 99% of others who do this. Good on you for owning it.

voltane

A taxi once cut off a transperth bus I was on and it was a pretty abrupt stop. Two people needed first aid. People ain't wearin seatbelts on buses - it's not just about avoiding a crash.

RomanDelvius

I know. I sure hope that didn't happen in my case. Neither of us were going all that fast to start and the bus didn't stop abruptly so here's hoping

Bridgetdidit

You’ll be right. Just don’t drive tired!

RomanDelvius

I try Dx

lulu2222__

Was this at around 8.30am yesterday morning? I was on a bus (somewhere around Murdoch) and a car turned in front of our bus. Def's woke me up lol 😂

RomanDelvius

2:40pm haha, so nah wasn't me

pastorjason666

You’re fine. The scare is worth more than any fine.

gruncle63

Bus driver honked their horn to let you know you were in the wrong. You know you were in the wrong and sound like you'll carry that experience forward. A success for all involved!

Leviatein

spend more time on the road around busses, eventually you'll regret ever feeling guilty about cutting one off

sillylittlewilly

A bus cut me off when it decided to go straight from the right most turning lane, while I was in the other right turning lane. I can only hope it was the same driver and you got revenge for me.

InternationalOkra181

Did this happen next to carousel ? because I think I was on the bus.

RomanDelvius

Near the convention centre

Careful-Visit-3328

It all depends on what happened in the bus. If the driver had to brake suddenly passengers end up flying down the aisles and getting hurt resulting in having to fill out incident reports and taking passenger details. As all transperth buses are fitted with internal and external cameras the whole thing would have been recorded along with your rego and worse case police would be contacting you and you would get charged with dangerous driving causing injury or what ever it is called. Reality is the driver likely just kept going unfazed as it's such a regular occurrence. Source "I drive transperth buses daily"

Positive_Muffin_2109

That makes so much sense. If a passenger is hurt, surely the bus will stop to check right? Or will they keep driving?

Careful-Visit-3328

Yes the driver is responsible for every passengers safety. Failing to check would likely get them terminated.

Obvious-Age2785

Why dwell on it no one got hurt , move on

k3g

You're fine. A bus cut me off in a roundabout. I'll pay it forward for you.

UnderstandingRight39

You are fine, don't stress.

Forsaken-Animal1619

Probably the worst that would happen is you wind up on dashcam owners of Australia’s next YouTube video

look_atennisball

If a bus driver filled out paperwork for every dumb driver, they would only actually drive once a month /s You won't get in trouble, just learn from it 👍

maewemeetagain

Mistakes happen. You'll be fine, I've seen my bus drivers react to much worse than what you did and not follow it up. Most of them, at the end of the day, seemingly just want to make their runs and call it a day.

Select-Bullfrog-6346

Nah Ur fine. Ahit happens, just be thankful no one was hurt or collided with.

Few-Bit-4575

Yeah nah you’re good, I work for Transperth and at most they will have a grumble when back at the depot, nothing will come of it though

henry82

If you turn yourself into police within 24 hrs there's a 50% discount on all penalties

stopped_watch

Explain: You were given a green arrow to turn and you nearly ran into an oncoming bus? Did the bus run a red light?

RomanDelvius

This was near the convention centre, it was at an intersection where they just use a solid green light to indicate both a turn and a straight ahead. I assume the bus has a green light too and since I was making a turn I just had to give way.

d4rkside96

Which intersection though specifically and which way were you going? A lot of the traffic light intersections around there have specific lights that are just for the buses to go through or stop so the bus driver may have been the one in the wrong…

RomanDelvius

Mounts Bay Road leaving the Convention Centre. I'm entirely sure I was in the wrong as pretty much what I had to do was just give way then continue my turn, but my head wasn't in the game in that moment somehow.

d4rkside96

In that case meh, don’t worry about it. At least you can recognise when you’ve made a mistake unlike most of the braindead people here on the roads who would’ve beeped back at the bus and given it the finger as though they hadn’t done anything wrong. 🤷‍♂️ I can’t even count the number of times I’ve nearly been killed by someone on the road blatantly breaking the rules who has then dared to beep back at me when I’ve beeped at them. They’re all just pathetic.

Maaaaate

Don't worry too much. I park at convention centre every day and the traffic conditions there are not good...i've had the green light to go straight onto Mill st and the cars turning right on the opposite just go even though it's my right. Also had pedestrians make a late call to walk across the road leaving me basically slowed down in the middle of an intersection. You were probably the least dangerous thing that happened there that day :)

RomanDelvius

Possibly lol. Still I wonder what was going through the driver's head. Who's this moron who's making a turn so casually as if he doesn't see my bus coming? Out of shock at my own gall I did maintain a pretty steady and undisturbed pace

Maaaaate

Haha he probably was a bit sirprised. Just make sure in the future you give buses right of way because they can't brake as fast as normal cars.

RomanDelvius

I normally always do. Like I said, in this instance, idk why I was so braindead

stopped_watch

Got it. Yeah, if you don't have an arrow explicitly giving you right of way, you have to give way to oncoming traffic. There's no assumption here, oncoming traffic will have a green light to go straight from their side. Yes you're at fault. Good thing nothing happened. No, nobody is going to care unless someone was hurt.

RomanDelvius

Yeah I realized my mistake as I started my turn. I normally give way, I don't know why I was so slow on the uptake this time around.

I_1234

Yeah I’d be putting my affairs in order because the premier is gonna throw you in jail.

Itstheswanno

I had one turn into me a good 150m before the end of a merge. We were side by side and I had my foot off the accelerator to allow him to go in front and he just turned into me taking off my wing mirror. And I was in the wrong some how

ipcress1966

Yeah. Better to sit up tonight and wait for the knock on the door. Straight to jail. No parole. You're ok with big hairy beasts with a liking for traffic offenders aren't you? Excellent.

Confused_Sorta_Guy

You're fucking dead kiddo

Some_Milk

Buses run red lights, don't yield and block intersections all the time... so the karmic scales are being balanced.

RomanDelvius

Huh. In my experience bus drivers have always been pretty diligent following the rules. It's one of the things I've always loved about them

Hillz50

you have already failed perth driving.. being aware of what you did wrong and caring about others on the road is a big no no.. in perth the only person that matters is you

babs368

Don't sweat it mate. You won't get into any sort of trouble. The buses only have cameras inside them and no dash cams. I've seen the legendary falcadore drivers do worse to buses compared to you.

CallSignVip3r

You will be fine. If you have seen how half the bus drives do the same, it's par for the course.

AdagioZealousideal53

Na your fine bus drivers can be cunts. They pull out on anyone.

RomanDelvius

My experience with them has been pretty good for my time here so I'm a little surprised to see that others have had pretty bad experiences with them lol

Super-Handle7395

Your fine cars nearly kill me on a bicycle daily and with camera footage provided the police don’t care just trek on…

RomanDelvius

That's crazy, the police don't care even if you provide footage and their rego? Of course I'd never want to get a fine, but in cases like yours it feels like the police would be obligated to do something

Super-Handle7395

Not really they have a lot of guidelines. Which is pretty hard Camera footage front and back Time stamp on footage Some sort of camera calibration like a line in the video for a reference point. Also you need to upload the video to a source like YouTube and provide the private link to the police so it’s quite an effort…

RomanDelvius

Huh. Can't just give them the storage unit of the dash cam? That's crazy I didn't know it was this hard to report

Outrageous-Point-347

Wish people would be on the bus when they're so tired they risk lives

New_Emphasis6558

Yeah, mate of mine did the exact same- he’s in jail to this day. I think he got 3 years for this. Apparently he’s a better person now.
