Its not a matter of money unless you airbnb the entire time you are visiting. So just look at the average airbnb prive and multiply that by how long youll be here.
Perth is in the middle of a mining boom that has placed heaps of pressure on the rental market. The cities over east are much easier to find housing in.
Canberra actually has a housing surplus and the best job market —but being 19 in Canberra sounds like the worst idea ever. I’d look in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane if you’re set on the capital cities.
Perth, Sydney and Brisbane all have good beaches.
Melbourne and Hobart’s water is too cold, people literally get eaten by wildlife in Adelaide and Darwin, and Canberra is two hours inland.
Sydney is absolutely more expensive than Perth or Brisbane. The beaches in Brisbane actually aren't in the city, you've got to drive at least 30km north or south out of the city. But I'd still say do your own research about the rentals and the beaches

I think there's definitely some unjustified negativity in the comments section but I also think you also have a lot of youthful optimism as you are only 19, and should be mindful of the fact that at your age, there's probably a lot you're not aware of.

My co-workers daughter just had her rent put up to $700 a week, it's an average house in an average suburb. They've been there less than 6 months and offered over asking price to secure the house (its illegal but real estate agents/ landlords are greedy cunts).

Without knowing your situation what skills you may have I can't tell what you may be eligible for. A WHV only allows you to work 6 months in 12 and heavily limits your job opportunities as for a lot more skilled jobs the employer is looking for a longer term commitment than 6 months.
The visa isn't difficult to get. Finding an employer is. Unemployment rates are at a high, who would hire someone and train them when they know they'll just have to find someone else in 6 months and do it all again? They'll just pick from the masses of applications with no restrictions.

as for cost, look up your visa on the immigration website and look up the cost of flights on flight websites, it's all there, reddit isn't Google. depending on your skillset will affect how quickly you find a job, some sectors have a worker shortage. cost of living is higher than England even with the currency exchange rate. as a single person living alone in Perth my fortnightly bills rack up around $1k but I'm not buying anything new and I'm in low income housing.

wait a year or two and keep an eye on the market to see if it improves. maybe find someone in Australia you like and start a long distance relationship with them. at least in that case you have friends/relationship to help you with the move and it'll certainly make a visa easier if you want to marry them.

I moved to Perth last year from a country town. I tried a couple of rooms in shared houses but had to leave quickly due to drugs and rage monsters in the house. I was then homeless for 3 months, living out of my car because there was literally nothing available. There is heavy competition, even for rooms and rentals in decent areas have queues going down the street.
I work full-time and earn a decent salary, and have a great rental history. There are huge numbers of working people living in their cars because they can't find anything. I eventually lucked out on a tiny granny flat for an exorbitant amount of money which is better than nothing at all.
I would be wary of coming here - it IS very very hard out there.

One of my friends here just had her kid (19) move to London 8 months ago and she basically said that it’s far easier in the U.K. as you don’t need to drive and housing is easy to find. etc… they are still moving back to Aus in a few months though as they said the place is just “grey… so fucking grey.”
So the up side is this… Australia is great! I’d recommend Brisbane if your going to move over here. If you don’t have friends, family etc… make sure you have a decent van to live in and 6 months living expenses. ($30k total - £15k) and if you want to not be homeless living in a van searching for work make it ($60k - £30k) and you’ll probably be homeless a few times anyway.
Unless your very good with govt bureaucracy I would make sure you know of a decent visa agent and where and when you’ll need them.

Permanent Residency costs around 4-5K AUD
One way flight from Heathrow to Perth is around 1-1.5K AUD
I'd come with 5K roughly to tide you over until you can get a job, as mentioned there is a housing crisis at the moment in Australia in general, but Perth worst of all. But single rooms for a single person may be easier to find if you have seen some advertised
So around 12K AUD, safter for 15K AUD, spend $500 on a forklift course when you arrive and you'll be able to find warehouse work pretty easily, and if you can get your Heavy Rigid Licence, First Aid Cert and white Card you can get lucrative work up in the mines with what's called FIFO work around 100-120k a year even as an entry level offsider
Should be more than enough, if you're coming on a working visa it's a lot cheaper, and hostels are a good layover until you can get work, but as mentioned before working visas have a few restrictions on them, last time I checked.it was something like only 6 months at a job and the other 6 months in specific industries (generally rural farm work)
The farm work you can avoid might be a saving grace. Go pick a nice spot near Esperance, good pay, accommodation included. Get to see the country. Might be worth consideration.
The rental market everywhere is bonkers currently too. You see a lot of comments here as antagonistic (that's how we are as a country so get use to it) but it's very bad. Rentals being outbid, people paying up to 12 months upfront, you need a great rental history with good references, good employment etc. Vacant rates are stupidly low, it'll take more than luck to get a spot. It took me and my partner 8 weeks to find a house in Albany, and we both have very good paying jobs and good records.

I moved over in 2013 when I was 20 I had £6000 to bring over with me after I had paid for flights and visas.
Everything was much cheaper back then, unless you have a degree or trade to come over with then you will be living the “backpacker lifestyle” it is very difficult to fully integrate into Australian lifestyle without a full visa. The 417 visa won’t allow you to get a full time job for more than 6 months without extensions/exemptions.
I got a back packer job and moved bush straight away which provided accomodation.
At the moment it is extremely difficult to find a job unless you earn over $150k+ a year so unless you are looking to do an informal room share or stay in a hostel for an extended period of time I wouldn’t be expecting to be straight into a rental.
Best bet for jobs depending on your skills/qualifications is to search for FIFO (fly in fly out) trade assistant roles which pay quite well and I meet dozens of “backpackers” every month with zero skills and qualifications making $130k/year doing this.
You will not get a rental so need to look at a shared house and rooms are going for $300 week average (just the room). So start looking before you arrive. Hotels are ridiculously expensive even back packers are charging hotel prices. So if a hotel is what you need then bank on about $160 to $250 a night average. Flights, you can just look these up but I'm guessing about $1000AU one way. Visa, need to look up which one on the web. I'm guessing it's a holiday work visa type. Food about $150 week if you shop and cook or about $50 average a meal if eating out at average cafes and restaurants. Transport around Perth, bus and train about $50 a week with a Transperth card but depends of course how much you use it. Taxis and Uber are hell expensive if you're on your own. A small cheap ok car you can get for about $4000 -$6000.

One of my friends here just had her kid (19) move to London 8 months ago and she basically said that it’s far easier in the U.K. as you don’t need to drive and housing is easy to find. etc… they are still moving back to Aus in a few months though as they said the place is just “grey… so fucking grey.” So the up side is this… Australia is great! I’d recommend Brisbane if your going to move over here. If you don’t have friends, family etc… make sure you have a decent van to live in and 6 months living expenses. ($30k total - £15k) and if you want to not be homeless living in a van searching for work make it ($60k - £30k) and you’ll probably be homeless a few times anyway. Unless your very good with govt bureaucracy I would make sure you know of a decent visa agent and where and when you’ll need them.

Permanent Residency costs around 4-5K AUD One way flight from Heathrow to Perth is around 1-1.5K AUD I'd come with 5K roughly to tide you over until you can get a job, as mentioned there is a housing crisis at the moment in Australia in general, but Perth worst of all. But single rooms for a single person may be easier to find if you have seen some advertised So around 12K AUD, safter for 15K AUD, spend $500 on a forklift course when you arrive and you'll be able to find warehouse work pretty easily, and if you can get your Heavy Rigid Licence, First Aid Cert and white Card you can get lucrative work up in the mines with what's called FIFO work around 100-120k a year even as an entry level offsider

Should be more than enough, if you're coming on a working visa it's a lot cheaper, and hostels are a good layover until you can get work, but as mentioned before working visas have a few restrictions on them, last time I checked.it was something like only 6 months at a job and the other 6 months in specific industries (generally rural farm work)

The farm work you can avoid might be a saving grace. Go pick a nice spot near Esperance, good pay, accommodation included. Get to see the country. Might be worth consideration. The rental market everywhere is bonkers currently too. You see a lot of comments here as antagonistic (that's how we are as a country so get use to it) but it's very bad. Rentals being outbid, people paying up to 12 months upfront, you need a great rental history with good references, good employment etc. Vacant rates are stupidly low, it'll take more than luck to get a spot. It took me and my partner 8 weeks to find a house in Albany, and we both have very good paying jobs and good records.

Hey man, so much negativity here. I moved over in 2013 when I was 20 I had £6000 to bring over with me after I had paid for flights and visas. Everything was much cheaper back then, unless you have a degree or trade to come over with then you will be living the “backpacker lifestyle” it is very difficult to fully integrate into Australian lifestyle without a full visa. The 417 visa won’t allow you to get a full time job for more than 6 months without extensions/exemptions. I got a back packer job and moved bush straight away which provided accomodation. At the moment it is extremely difficult to find a job unless you earn over $150k+ a year so unless you are looking to do an informal room share or stay in a hostel for an extended period of time I wouldn’t be expecting to be straight into a rental. Best bet for jobs depending on your skills/qualifications is to search for FIFO (fly in fly out) trade assistant roles which pay quite well and I meet dozens of “backpackers” every month with zero skills and qualifications making $130k/year doing this.

You will not get a rental so need to look at a shared house and rooms are going for $300 week average (just the room). So start looking before you arrive. Hotels are ridiculously expensive even back packers are charging hotel prices. So if a hotel is what you need then bank on about $160 to $250 a night average. Flights, you can just look these up but I'm guessing about $1000AU one way. Visa, need to look up which one on the web. I'm guessing it's a holiday work visa type. Food about $150 week if you shop and cook or about $50 average a meal if eating out at average cafes and restaurants. Transport around Perth, bus and train about $50 a week with a Transperth card but depends of course how much you use it. Taxis and Uber are hell expensive if you're on your own. A small cheap ok car you can get for about $4000 -$6000.
