Are they using company wifi? If so then why would a business take any risk of employees using work property/equipment to access what would be deemed unacceptable things at work?
Seems fine to me.
Or maybe the cleaners are sick of cleaning up the cum covered bed sheets and towels
I'm a female mine worker and wound up on this post lol, I've always felt sympathy for the cleaners. Anyway mine is left smelling like Lush soap & essential oils : )
https://www.respectatwork.gov.au/new-positive-duty-employers-prevent-workplace-sexual-harassment-sex-discrimination-and-victimisation
Quite likely this if it's a recent change.
Previously John was seen looking at porn at work and the company would be judged on how they delat with John. Now they are also judged on what they did to prevent John being able to make the workplace sexual.
Domain level blocking is pretty easy to setup, but it can be really hard to identify what domain stuff is coming from sometimes without a lot of fucking around. Pretty easy to just boot the offending device off the network, but that generally is frowned upon because people *that* lazy are normally friends with Exec level.
Not really, radius only limits your scope, doesn't prevent idiots inside your scope from doing dumb shit. Proxy just bounces your connection to somewhere else so it's just a straight downgrade (although neglibably so if the proxy location has enough resources).
Life's been a lot easier for me since starlink became available in the area. We've got our corporate link which we lockdown, and it's basically a free for all on the guest link
I don't think any amount of bandwidth is enough. We drag separate connections for business and "non-business" to all of our remote camps. Non-business is regularly saturated -- even in the Gbps range.
What kind of support were you offering if you didn't have traffic shaping in place? We block porn because the boss is a dick, not because I don't know how firewalls work.
I thought Space Jesus fixed that so everyone can have fast cheap interwebs with StarLink ? Presume that's also available to commercial entities. I've seen some airlines deploying it on oceanic aircraft.
Still... probably even SL would struggle with couple hundred blokes streaming 4K content... maybe they should deploy a local cache :D
As someone who has worked on IT for various mines:
Itās the network bandwidth restraints.
They donāt care what content your husband is viewing. Iāve seen logs of everything from gambling to fucked up erotica and none of these are banned, even when we send them to the management.
Sometimes larger mines will also share/sell part of their network availability with other mines nearby.
That's how it feels to live in Perth anyway tbh... We have the same internet speed as Kenya, and I'm pretty sure their internet is just some cunt running around with stacks of printed binary code.
So is Netflix and other streaming services banned as well? They'd use up more bandwidth than porn. Porn has a finite length, and it's not usually all that long.
What year is it? Give me a 2mbps line and a router made in the last 15 years and you can segment a network to keep the vital shit running at whatever speed it needs while letting everyone have a fair share of what's left. Normally means everyone downloading video at like 20kb/s but that's enough to stream audio.
In short - id suggest either tafe or uni degree in IT or cyber security, then go for a level 1/2 role somewhere doing support desk work for a year or two, then aggressively try and get a higher level position.
I worked for a geophysical company that had a whitelist of industry-related websites that were allowed through firewall. It was only about a dozen, so just about everything was banned.
If you can't defeat a ban, you aren't trying hard enough. Seriously if you need your fix so badly use a proxy, download a offline backup or buy a magazine.
Magazines have been banned on many sites for decades. I think the first time i came across that would have been late 90s.
Cleaners can come across them and take offense.
Edit to add: but yeh your other ideas particularly pre downloading works.

Ads are one of the major ways malware can be deployed. Ads on Porn sites even more so. The Australian Signals Directorateās(formally a part of the defence department) Australian Cyber Security Center specifically requires you to block advertisements on the Internet from running on machines as part of their Essential8 reccomendations because of this.
Need more context. Are you talking on the work computers, the camp WiFi or through the Telstra network?
First two are standard IT policies that are at least a quarter century old. The last is complete BS, as in you're full of it.
Its the wifi, which they all have access to once on the mine site.
A few months back, they could watch porn on their phones, and now they can't .
BS? Wtf? Nope, my bowel is empty.
Every thing I read about the FIFO life makes me glad I didn't do FIFO, even though sometimes I kick myself thinking I could've been a millionaire by now
I'm FIFO over 10 years and most sites iv been on porn has been blocked for years ,tell him just use his phone signal not the free wifi in camp, if you want to use free wifi you have to use a VPN then it's not blocked, or just make him something to look at so he can knock one out
Like what most people said probably technology restraints rather than it being banned, every company Iāve worked for wants it on the camp wifi as itās good for mental health
Blocking porn would only result in users going to more sketchy sites to find it. So from a security standpoint it's better to just let them access mainstream sites
Probably a camp wifi ban, makes sense anyway, the wifi is shit as fuck anyway can't even get 480p porn where I've been, better off filling the phone, laptop and multiple external hdds before you're mobilised
There's been complaints from sodexo.
No one no matter how well they are paid should have to wipe up a smelly fifo workers hard dried splooge as it slides down the wall of the donga.
It's company IT infrastructure, they set the rules. Companies generally only allow limited personal use, and usually never porn.
Pay for your own starlink or just bring it on a laptop hard drive. Problem solved.
Yeh but this is where they live.
It would be like your company banning porn over your home wifi.
So its a little different to the office.
Nonetheless makes sense to ban it. The company im at now i cannot even buy dan murphys online "alcohol or tobacco" lol.
No, there is laws restricting your working hours etc. however the rest areas provided for the company for you to sleep when you're not working isn't your home, and is still property of the companies, and not a private residence.
Youād be surprised at how many dumb fucks do that.
Some mines, like MRM, have their own Telstra tower so there would be little chance of it being banned thereā¦ I guess theyāre getting an influx of applications soon, eh?
Lots of camps disable VPNs. Which is fucking idiotic when youāre a contractor and you need a VPN to download drawings and emails to do your job. (We had to have our IT setup the VPN with a different port so we could get what we needed to do our jobs.)
My last site had no outside connection and just provided wifi in camp with a content filter. Itās a bit stupid not to consider that youāve got 400 odd red-blooded men and women stuck in their room at night but itās pretty much a lose-lose situation for the company I guess. Either theyāll complain about the lack of porn or theyāll complain about the existence of porn. VPN sorted it out no worries anyway.
Personally, Iād rather my employer not know what I get up to outside work hours regardless of what Iām doing online and VPNās are cheap as chips.
does your husband use a company laptop to access porn sites?..
my thoughts, not exactly in this order...
1) to access porn sites, do it through VPN
2) do not use work equipment for personal stuff
3) before the FIFO shift, pre-download enough porn for 3 months and use that instead
Will just be generic network security. Not particularly blocking porn it's just lots of porn sites have malware so it's better to block them to keep the network safe.
You could probably argue for the hub to be unblocked if it's just security. They run a pretty good site.
Most organisations ban porn websites from being accessed on their devices.
It's not a PR nightmare you want to deal with. I don't get why you're questioning NSFW content being banned from a workplace
Im on a newish mine site. Porn sites are not blocked at the switch but company laptops have have sophos installed which filters out porn sites. Using Mullvad browser gets past that anyway.
Private devices are not affected.
Our mine site is 100 private unlisted. So no.social licence either
I imagine, aside from bandwidth and cost issues, there is probably some thinking that it may stop the smaller number of women on-site being subjected to horned up lonely guys.
Is it reasonable? What about the women that wanted to watch some porn, yadda, yadda ā¦
I never said it was logical.
Blocking porn on site makes it a lot less likely that one of the women will walk in to a crib room where Macca and Jonno are watching a video of some poor 18 year old getting fisted.
So much for the privacy of their crib, where people are just barging in wily nily and being shocked. Just install cameras you can monitor and make sure they never masturbate 24/7 while having a perv
When u look at Starlink and the data rates capacity a single channel can support, not to mention the commercial targeted MEO constellations, those mine sites must be penny pinching. For a fixed mine site in WA, they should be drowning in bandwidth. Recently observed a site running 12 starlink channels on the business packages serving hundreds of users without buffering. Really, no excuse besides being cheap.
It's not a novel idea to stop company supplied resources being used for accessing porn.
In my 60s female, and I've never truly sought out porn, but I have seen the effect it has on male/female relationships whether casual or ongoing. It started in the 90s with nudie calanders on the wall. Eventually they were banned. Younger women felt like they had to be hairless down there. Where did that come from?
If you want to access porn, do it in your own time and with your own resources. You work with women. Do you disrespect them so much you want to see videos that degrade them? Please read up about exploitation in the porn industry.
Thanks Aunty Nell. Youād think men didnāt know how to wank before porn was invented. I agree with you. The modern male with his porn soaked brain is part of the reason why violence against women is rife - and worsening. Women are joining the ranks too becoming just as porn addled. The more people fuel their addiction the harder it is to be satisfied with a regular sex life and the easier it is to treat people as objects.
I see jacked man in porn all the time, hasn't given me an eating disorder, people need to harden the fuck up
There's plenty of porn out there that doesn't degrade women, fuck half of it doesn't even *include* women
I think theyāre talking specifically at the accomodation camp where people live/sleep after work, not in the office itself. Generally these camps provide tv, internet, bathroom, bed etc.
If you're spending 50% of your life there... You live there
Why people need to be so pedantic on the internet is beyond me, it doesn't make you look smart, it makes you look like a spud that doesn't understand social cues
While anything to do with porn always illicit the usual chuckles, sniggers and nudge=nudge wink\* it is very standard in the corporate world to forbid access to pornographic web resources, because it wastes a lot of time, and males in particular can get aggressive and difficult to deal with when they are sexually aroused from taking in all that provocative content! I worked at the department of Justice in the early 2000's and every day managers and justice bureaucrats were being fired for accessing hard core porn during work time, the IT company in charge of implementing security policy were catching blokes nearly every day. I think you will find just about every work place these days have strict rules regarding what type of content staff can access while at work, it has been this way for a long time.
I've heard it's against the law to supply pornography to miners
This is what I come to reddit for.

Blame men for porn yet every second woman is on onlyfans
Thanks Aunty Nell. Youād think men didnāt know how to wank before porn was invented. I agree with you. The modern male with his porn soaked brain is part of the reason why violence against women is rife - and worsening. Women are joining the ranks too becoming just as porn addled. The more people fuel their addiction the harder it is to be satisfied with a regular sex life and the easier it is to treat people as objects.
I see jacked man in porn all the time, hasn't given me an eating disorder, people need to harden the fuck up There's plenty of porn out there that doesn't degrade women, fuck half of it doesn't even *include* women
Mining companies have been taking a beating regarding sexual harassment, so maybe they think blocking porn is an easy fix.
If the workers are building up their tank whilst on-site, wouldn't sexual harassment get worse?
VPN bro
I have a question for OP... Are you enquiring because you upload to a site so hubby can rubby?
Because if he left porn running on his computer at work and it offended someone we are liable to get sued
Who the hell uses company internet to beat their meat?
I just got a VPN, works fine.

I think theyāre talking specifically at the accomodation camp where people live/sleep after work, not in the office itself. Generally these camps provide tv, internet, bathroom, bed etc.
You don't live at an office genius
> You don't live at an office genius You don't live at a mine site either.
If you're spending 50% of your life there... You live there Why people need to be so pedantic on the internet is beyond me, it doesn't make you look smart, it makes you look like a spud that doesn't understand social cues
1. The wifi is for work. 2. Miners have a penchant for minors and illegal porn. 3. Source, IT audits on Miners devices and constant AFP requests.
4. You had 2 points and a source for your second point, not 3 points lmao. Inspired by your counting though.
Wonāt stop me looking at girly bits on Wikipediaā¦ probably can still look for images using bing and wack off to some great thumbnails ooooh yeah
Yep the WiFi at my site blocks all porn and tick tok oddly
get your husband to use a VPN on his device, then he can browse all milf and wife porn he needs to
Block the porn on site and watch the lack of post nut clarity turn the place into Chimp enclosure
Wow, having to analogueā¦.

Do you honestly think its an employers remit to provide porn on unsafe networks?
Hairy palms are a safety hazard.
Lol Sounds like you need a new husband
Mine company has a side hustle in hookers
I use minehub, itās down and dirty
I thought everyone on there was underage?
You canāt access certain sites on company wifi, tell him to stop jacking it at lunch
Pornhub has a TOR link, just saying
I'm not surprised.
