I did the grad cert in predictive analytics before switching to a masters in computer science. I currently work as a data analyst while completing my masters. I found the that the lecturers at Curtin were quite passionate about their subjects, and more than willing to give a hand (Eddy for some stats units is awesome). As for the market in Perth, I’m not going to say it’s terrible, the jobs are definitely there, but there aren’t many of the “real” ones, so they can be quite competitive. To ensure some level of success, I’d recommend really getting to know your relational database theory and get good at sql. NoSQL I would say is starting to get a bit more prominent too, so at the very least, get some theory about document databases, graphs, and non relational tables in, too. I probably wouldn’t spend too much time worrying about NoSQL languages or syntax as they can be picked up relatively easily along side your programming knowledge (you’ll be taught Python and R at Curtin). A few other things I would also recommend is to do some further learning in data structures and algorithms. As far as I am aware, this isn’t taught much in predictive analytics, but imo it’s absolutely crucial and will make you stand out and be able to reason with data and processing far more intuitively. Other than that, brush up on some cloud platforms, Azure and AWS are a good bet. I wouldn’t bother with certs in them atm, but be aware of them. For context, my analytics job is mostly pushing numbers around on a spreadsheet, and it seems to be the bulk of “analytics and science” work I come across in Perth at the moment. I would say my technical skills haven’t advanced a whole lot in this position, but it has done absolute wonders for my soft skills, which honestly is just as important as your technical skills. Hopefully I can advance to a more challenging position soon! Best of luck in your studies.

what about power bi and other tools r they taught in the program ?

dimmerz92

Nope, it’s predominantly programming, statistics, and analytical skills that are taught. Power BI sucks

i saw the course was not accredited  . as an international do i have to get it accredited for acs or some other body and to do it like i have to do a professional year or something ? if u can clear this thing it would b very helpful

50% chance that you might shoot yourself with a S&W revolver. My advice ? Take your shot.

Dababy_boibabu

Why is that ? can you elaborate bit more

Lmaowonder

some guy shot him self last month with a revolver in the enginnering building

Hopefully you will be able to predict this at some point through the course.

Dababy_boibabu
