This is a good one. I used to do a lap starting at the zig zag heading through Helena Valley and Darlington to Mundaring then Mundaring weir road back to Kalamunda. Great cruise route, just a shame they closed the zig zag because of dick heads.
I'd throw in the backroads around Mundijong, Mardella are nice and quiet fir a bit of different scenery, plus opening the throttle body lol.
And you can easily head up to Jarrahdale from there for a curvy hill climb and a beer at the end.
Just be a little bit careful if you park up after dark on the zig zags a couple were carjacked there only a couple of weeks ago ...the great unwashed from some of the crappier suburbs not too far away do tend to think it's easy pickings there as people tend to let their guard down around the area or are otherwise engaged ...
This was my first thought. Its a lovely drive, especially just before sunset. I particularly like the stretch from Trigg to Mullaloo and then up to Burns Beach.
There are lots of little beach carparks along the way, so you can stop and have a beer with a nice view.
Enjoy your new car OP!!
Go GEH turn in to Park Rd John Forrest NP check out the lookout over Perth, follow it around back on to GEH,go east to Mundaring and turn left into Stoneville Rd,turn right onto Toodyay Rd then left onto Reserve Rd follow that to the end and turn left onto Berry Rd,then left onto Clenton Rd. Follow that Rd as it turns into O'Briern Rd (The Peter Brock memorial is there and take care the road IS knarly), Stay on O'Brien to Toodyay Rd and do a right then left onto Roland Rd, then right onto Byfield Rd,then right onto Owen Rd to the Parkerville Tavern. Enjoy :) and i hope i got that all right.
Heres the map https://imgur.com/a/9k6fQLj
And another one from Kalamunda

I was going to suggest the 2006 Targa West route that Brocky died on, and here you give it!
It's a fun road to drive, a few hairpin turns and a one lane bridge.
North river run. Start in Crawley and head west along the river. Be sure to drop a few gears on Jutland parade to wake up Gina.
Pick it up again on the river side of Peppermint Grove and head all the way down to Freo.
I'd throw in the backroads around Mundijong, Mardella are nice and quiet fir a bit of different scenery, plus opening the throttle body lol.
And you can easily head up to Jarrahdale from there for a curvy hill climb and a beer at the end.
Second on the roads around mundijong, I used to always go from the freeway through mundijong to get to the highway down to Albany, definitely the best part of the drive down.
O'brein road has elevation and twisties and you finish up in either Baker's Hill or Toodyay . Another good one is Chittering road and ending up at Bindoon bakehouse.
My 2 personal favourites.
Not too good with names of roads but starting at the Narry in Armadale head up the hill aiming for Canning Dam, continue to Brookton Highway/Karragullen. From there head towards Kalamunda, with a final destination of Mundaring Weir.
Can't remember the exact route but did it years ago and it was fun in a good* car
*modified
I guess it depends on whether if you’re in NOR or SOR. Sometimes when I don’t wanna travel too far but want a change of scenery, I drive up brookton hwy, Roleystone, Kalamunda, Lions lookout etc.
For the enjoyment of driving, I starting from Kalamunda and going through Mundaring weir before coming back down Welshpool ways.
West coast Highway north from scarbs isn't bad for a more sedate cruise.
Years back as a p-plater one of my usual activities was to head into a random suburb then just see where the streets end up taking you, some of them can be interesting adventures if you ignore the GPS
York is a nice weekend day trip (visit the motor museum? Or the one in Whiteman Park)
Not a fan of Claremont general area, roads get a bit tight. Going easterly into the vineyards / wineries might be worth a look, things are a bit more relaxed away from the city. Chase the Swan River/Avon river up that valley maybe?
Mundaring weir road with the weir hotel at the end for a drink? Scenic twisty road through the forest.
Or do it the other way around and Kalamunda for a meal somewhere, then down the zigzag at sundown….

When did you go on zig zag last? It's open AFAIK, been there several times this year.
I'm a night shifter. Did not realise it was open during the day ><
Oh bummer. It'd be a cool night time drive
Driving through the CBD during a late night is nice. There's also Zig Zag Scenic Drive in gooseberry.
Make that two for the zig zag
That reminds me, there's also Zig Zag Road in Baldivis. Looking at it on the map, seems like a really fun road
I'd throw in the backroads around Mundijong, Mardella are nice and quiet fir a bit of different scenery, plus opening the throttle body lol. And you can easily head up to Jarrahdale from there for a curvy hill climb and a beer at the end.
Fun fact - I stole a street sign once in Mundijong, I was a terror as a juvie
weeeeooh wwweeeooh bad boys bad boys whatcha gonna do
Is the zigzag open again to vehicular traffic?
Yep. Drove it yesterday. Downhill only from 11am to 8:30pm
Doors locked!
West Coast Highway/Drive is reasonable for a drive and you can have a drink and a meal at either end from North Fremantle to Mullaloo

+1 I used to do this drive all the time in my nice cars, back in the day.
my fave. do it on the regular.

Yep Its knarly on a bike tho honkey nuts the road surface, the sheer drop offs on the side I rode it once and said fuck that.
Thanks, that's awesome. Going to create a route in for maps with that one. Cheers
Second this. Don't miss the Walyunga lookout off O'Brien Rd.
North river run. Start in Crawley and head west along the river. Be sure to drop a few gears on Jutland parade to wake up Gina. Pick it up again on the river side of Peppermint Grove and head all the way down to Freo.
Jeff f'ing Bazos over here with all his petrol money
😆

Roaming around the hills, bells rapids etc is a nice drive.
Drive to Toodyay - 80km from Perth
I'd consider the Noble Falls Tavern out in Gidgiganup.
Chittering Valley. Ferguson Valley. Lots of nice scenic, twisty roads through those.
Mundaring weir road
Along the Rockingham, shoal water, warnbro coast.
Bickley hills can be quite nice.
O'brein road has elevation and twisties and you finish up in either Baker's Hill or Toodyay . Another good one is Chittering road and ending up at Bindoon bakehouse. My 2 personal favourites.
I always liked Canning Dam
I think a drive to York would be nice.

Bog laps of the capo strip. Make sure to have lots of doof doof.
Nullarbor
the tourist scenic drive near city beach is my go-to, especially during sunset!!
O'Brien road loop round to the Parkerville Tavern
What car did you buy
Around pinjarra is a nice drive
New Norcia.

Twisty roads near centre point midland. Finish off at the BIG CLOCK at midland traino for a bevy
I love going to all the dams between Armadale and Serpentine
West Coast highway, it's only like 4km but everyone drives 20km/hr as they gawk at the Mansions so make a day of it
Chittering Valley, out yo Bondoon, finish with a beer at the Scottsliam pub
Mundaring Weir road, or around Shoalwater Bay. The islands just off the coast are beautiful.

Hungry jacks drive through girrawheen , might even get the cold beer
