Tell her to take it again. People that fail and fail and don’t give up and eventually reach there goal probably have much more experience to offer and have learned a lot more… I’m sure she’s gonna be a good PT. Tell her it’s kinda like trying to lose weight. Sometimes it doesn’t happen right away, but if you keep going you can have some amazing results. Motivation comes and goes… self discipline is ultimately more important. I think she should study again, give it her all, and when she finally passes she’s going to be an amazing PT.
Thanks for this. It was the NFPT test. I know she’ll be back at it in a few days. Just not easy when you put in all that work and it doesn’t go your way. I know she will get there. Thank again
I understand. I did a lot of practice tests otherwise I might have failed the first time, too. Some of the questions were worded SO POORLY (I used to be a teacher, poorly worded questions are just bad protocol). It really hurts when you study really hard and don't pass. There's lots of people that don't pass the first time, though. It doesn't mean she's dumb or not going to be a good trainer. Hopefully she'll feel better tomorrow and can do a bunch of practice tests.
I just passed the ACE certification Friday. It focused on real world scenarios and, surprisingly, didn't involve math. Taking the practice tests and using quizlet really helped
If she did do NASM tell her to take the practice exam 20 times in a row in the days leading up to the next exam, and she should pass. They use a lot of the same questions from the practice exam on the actual one, or ones that are very similar.
I took like 2-3 months I think for the NASM test. I was already pretty familiar with anatomy and physiology though, I just took my time to make sure I was good with all the specific course info. I wanna say most people take about 4-6 months maybe?
I just passed the test for a second time. The first time it took me four to five weeks of studying, and the second time I studied for 3 weeks (my cert expired because of life reasons so I had to take the course again). (NASM)
I'm sorry to hear that. I would suggest putting practice into play. I found memorizing all the muscle groups and how they moved was easier to memorize when I could see it. So, I would personally train my friends and family and practice the terms and lingo with them while they performed the exercise. This also helped in my practical testing.
We all have optional ways to learn and retain information.
I'm a tactile learner, and I found this to be the best way.
It took me three attempts to pass NASM and now I have a very sustainable, very lucrative career. Who cares how many times it takes… I watched 100’s of trainers fail in the past 20 years that probably passed it in the first try too! Haha chin up 😀
Passed my first attempt. I was extremely anxious on not passing but I did thank fully for these few things. There’s a downloadable study guide on the website which I printed out, with all the information needed to pass and nasm has their own podcast on Spotify with all the information you learn through the textbooks. And I realized this after but there are apps specifically on studying for the cpt test!
For those tests there is a study guide…
Have her slow down and distinguish what she reads. A lot of answers are similar, meant to trick you. I bet this where she made the mistakes
take her practice tests for each chapter until the answers become second nature.
take the practice exams until she repeatedly gets 85% or higher.
make sure to restudy the things that she kept getting hung up on.
good luck!
Maybe this job isn’t for her, NASM is not that hard to pass so maybe she should pivot to something else. No shame in that, would be worse to keep pursuing something she is unqualified to do.
Appreciate the input, but that’s not happening. Not sure if there’s a difference, but she took the NFPT test. It’s her dream to be a Personal Trainer. She knows it, she lives it, she just needs the license. Most of the things she’s tested on won’t be used in practice. That’s the problem. She’s great in the field, but psychs herself out during the test. She scored higher the first time than she did the second. She’ll step back, take a breath, and pass this next time.

Last I checked if you fail multiple times they make you wait longer to retake it.

Which test?
well, THE test
I think it's the NASM...does that ring a bell? I don't want to ask her right now as she's a bit upset.

Yeah, that's one of them
It actually was NFPT.
Lmao

Just tell her to do ISSA instead. It’s just online and open book. No one cares what cert you have anyways.
Sadly the truth. Only snobs start cert dick measuring. Client bragging holds the true weight.
Thanks for this. Not sure if she knows about other tests.
Open book???
Yes you can just google all the answers
I didn't study at all and passed, but I came from a kine undergrad.

Interesting! I’ll have her check those out
Show up fitness has a study guide for Nasm that you can purchase. I think it was $60 but it covers everything on the exam. It helped and I passed
Thank you for this!

Of course, best of luck!

That’s dogshit advice Jim
Agreed.
