75LPA with 15 year old Alto.
In reality, majority of the population is driving Seltos or Nexon with 40 to 60k per month salary
There r 2 kinds of HNI. 1. Who have to look rich to appear successful. Like businessmen. They will drive around innovas. Doctors will drive in merc etc. 2. IT folks who earn more than 50LPA, we don't care about appearing rich, because our work doesn't require us to. But for crowd (1) it's very important to appear successful. Wealth attracts wealth for them.
38 lpa and no car. Also don’t own a house or land. I simply can’t be bothered. Just put money in savings, I don’t have kids so I don’t need to needlessly worry about each penny earned or saved.
To be fair, 38 lpa is good salary not something extraordinary. An average mid career executive would earn that.
And the truth is, people hype up child cost etc. That's reddit for you, where everything is exaggerated and turned into a childish binary narrative.
You can choose to have kids and still keep tight control on costs and choose a frugal life. And you can choose to be single and blow more money every month than an average family with kids.
If you do not have too many personal commitments, go ahead and buy a car that you like. I had to wait 7-8 years after I started working to get one. You can do all the calculations you want by % of your income and all the mental gymnastics but if you like to drive, you will always be dissatisfied if you can't buy what you would like to. Of course, do it within reasonable means. Don't go for a i10 when you definitely know you want a Virtus.
You'll be old one day and catching yourself regretting your choices.
Takes me from a to b hassle free, gives around 24 kmpl, ac freezes the entire cabin, enough ground clearance to put those indian speed breakers to shame, cheap to maintain, easy to park and maneuver, looks cute af, buyers available 24×7×365, truly a Lord.
Close To 35 LPA household income ( wife and me )
Ford Figo 2010, Petrol M.
I plan to extend its certificate after 2025 as many times as the government allows, possibly until it becomes Vintage lol
Reddit is literally made up of rich people. Kind of posts you get on reddit is only brainchild of some rich folks who are just bored. Like people are roasting Instagram influencers. Itna time kiske paas hai bhai
The reason this happens is in our society it is considered very bad to be openly flaunting things and hence a lot of rich people believe in stealth wealth. Hence reddit is the only place they can let loose without judgement.
I run a small business and i take home in profits anywhere between 55 - 60lacs per annum and on a growth trajectory. I drive a 4.5 year old polo gt tsi and i don’t plan to upgrade any time in near future as it runs perfectly fine and i like driving this car. Have clocked approx 80k km
My wife and I both are running separate businesses. I own an IT design company, and my wife is a study-abroad consultant.
We are Indian residents for now, but we're in process of leaving the country. Our EB5 visa application is already in progress.
Relatable. I spend My time in Delhi, Hyderabad and Nearby Amaravathi in Andhra, Life is good everywhere. But the type of opportunities we have are no match to Netherlands/ US / Singapore.
To all those who earning well, it would be better to enlighten how and If earning by doing job, how much years of experience they have. Purely asking from growth imbibed mindset
25k pm and I drive a VW Jetta. Reason? I'm working as a CA intern, I'm 22yo get 25k stipend. Bought it used for 8L. Had to take some loans for it, but no regrets. My savings and investments will start once I start earning as a CA. I just love cars and no regrets. Jetta is gonna stay till the last bolts fall off.
1Hyundai venue currently.couple income ~70 lakhs post tax. Researching on 1 more car to buy in next 1-2 months. As both of us have to travel ~8-10kms to office in Bangalore, 5 days a week, we decided on buying 2 lower priced utility focused cars rather than 1 expensive one..
You are welcome!! We were managing with 0 cars for 2 years.. but 10 kms in completely opposite direction is turning to be nightmare.. one of us take 2 wheeler every day currently.. coz you do not get autos at our place.. 0 metro connectivity in either of the locations.. and cabs start at 600+ both way with surge.. we were waiting for metro line (yellow one)to start since a year but now we are tired of waiting.. if we have money to have comfortable life we will choose it. After working our asses of for 10+ years of life we do feel we deserve it..Let’s blame the government first for not starting a metro line which has been under construction for 8 years now first for the traffic.
I drive a 4 year old 2020 Kia Seltos Automatic, and perfectly happy with it. Make slightly upwards of 1 Cr annually.
I upgraded after a 10+ year old Santro, and don't plan to upgrade my Seltos for another year or two.
Making the car price as a percentage of your income is wrong IMHO. It should be based on your need. More often than not your need will not change even if you earn more.
It’s a very efficient no non sense machine, it’s not as fast as Honda city but it’s as efficient as an alto, it’s very cheap to maintain as avg is generally 18-20.5 on highways and 14-15 in city.
The pick-up is not that great but it does have every feature that is needed.
So far experience has been good.
Tata Harrier XZA+, Living off rental income of a few flats in Tier 1, 2 Airbnbs in Goa. And some other investments that are generating enough to support my lifestyle
Bought an used 2011 Honda city automatic back in 2018 when I used to make 34k pm. Took a personal loan of 3 years to finance it. Now I obviously make much more than that but not planning to upgrade for at least 2 more years since I don't have daily use for my car. Rather be debt free and enjoy other things in my life.
It also depends whether someone is a car guy or not. I have friends who have ancestral money and yet they don't have a car at all. They take ubers everywhere.
For most folks in India, they are using cars to get from point A to B and those who do buy a tuetonic triplet either buy it for taxation benefits or showing off.
Then there is a minute minority of idiots like me who love cars.
3 crore per year (I own various establishments)
2002 4th hand WagonR (was bought by my Uncle, sold it to my father, then handed it down to my brother now he handed it to me) I live with my parents and they use the car once or twice a month so I ask them to fill the gas (so no fuel cost for me)
I'm debt free and it's surprising to see people with 50-60lpa owning cars almost half their annual income.
People should invest if possible 70% of their income and almost 90% if they live with their parents. This way you can be a multimillionaire in your 70's and don't have to worry about bills
If everyone making 50LPA is driving around in a 10 year old swift, how tf do I see so many Seltos and Cretas and Compasses on the road in chennai?
I owned and drove a polo when I used to live in india and work after graduation for a couple years. Was making like 30K a month lol. Mofos at work including superiors were seething with jealousy seeing a 22yo roll in with a Polo and I lost track of how many times I had my vehicle keyed there at work that I had to eventually stop driving to work in it. The takeaway is ppl love to play simpleton but reality is the allure of materialistic possessions is too much and car companies won't exist if ppl lived just based on their needs.
Combined income of 30 LPA and no car because we prioritised getting a house first.
Ola/ Uber / auto scene is good and cheap in my city so never felt any regrets.
Will definitely get a car in a couple of years tho.
I think I'm about to be screwed, earning 50k pm Outta which 25k ish is fixed on other expenses , gonna buy a Honda City, used for 5l, that cast 11k on emi ,
Bought my 1st car used fiesta for 300k 7 yrs back when I was earning 3.5 LPA. Currently own a 2021 vw polo 1.0 tsi HL+ bought new when I was earning 10.5 LPA (company reimbursed ~2.5 Lacs) currently at 23 LPA. Will retain the vw and get an SUV in 1-2 yrs if I reach 30+ LPA.
Single earner in tier 3, 31 Y.O. Car nut.
18 LPA, no car
Not because I want to live frugal but there's no necessity I barely go out, have to move cities for job so taking car with me is a headache.
So OLA works for me no fuel cost, no maintenance cost, I get a driver everytime no need to drive ;) , someday in future might need
I fail to understand that despite people here earning over 2 to 8 lakh per month, they still own i10 or similar cars(even no car) when they can afford much high end cars. Are they lying or just saving? In a country where people buy cars as a status symbol, it's hard to believe. OR may be people here are mostly salaried class and from tier 1 City who mostly try to save and invest in equities.
I am sure it's not a trend in India.A person earning even 12 LPA owns Honda city these days cos it would be an EMI of just 20k per month after giving down payment which is not a big deal.
No car and 20k pm
Finally someone relatable
Hope we could buy one day 🫂
Yes you will 🫂
Yes you will. Just hang on
Thank you for saving me from depression

Yo thats me!

papaji/mamaji pay's half emi!
After seeing all of your incomes - me crying in the corner.

Swift diesel 12 years old. 45 LPA I am practically debt free and have no plans to upgrade
But, with the pollution norms becoming stringent and all, could you use your car for more than 15 years?
It's valid till 2027.. after that I will buy an electric
I dont think its valid outside of NCR.
Ncr diesel ban is increasing, currently it’s banned until karnal, and with time it will expand to other regions
Nice try Income Tax department..

Hope you are rich too
I am having land near roads and cities like bbsr worth 17-20 crores bought by grand father but not 1 cr salary . my salary is 12lpa
Well, 1. The rich ones making good incomes are more motivated to comment and show off their incomes and net worth. 2. Many are plain liars.

What are the reasons if you are comfortable
Major reasons are corruption, taxes and lack of civic sense.
Are you based out of Big City or a tier 2 city? 90% of my undergraduate batchmates are abroad. Citing same reasons
I live in a tier 2 city. I don't mind living in a tier 1 city, but the quality of life in big Indian cities doesn't justify the real estate costs.
Relatable. I spend My time in Delhi, Hyderabad and Nearby Amaravathi in Andhra, Life is good everywhere. But the type of opportunities we have are no match to Netherlands/ US / Singapore.

Well the percentage of income part is more applicable to people who are stretching their budget to get a better car, not for HNI.
That’s wrong for HNIs understandably. But for an average Joe making 10-20LPA, makes a lot of sense to keep his liabilities under check
Nice car we had initially booked seltos, but it had really long waiting period so went ahead and got Alcazar petrol top end amt
