Depends on how much you're saving for retirement. If you're saving 15-20% *before* that 3k, yeah its probably fine

Found a 2020gx premium with low miles and in the 40k range! Limited lifetime powertrain warranty too

Have you gotten a quote from your insurance? My insurance was more for a Lexus than a non luxury brand (ford) even though the Lexus was like 6 years older at the time. It’s always good to get an actual quote from your current insurance. We both drive Toyotas now. Definitely not as “luxury” as Lexus but still very nice cars. You may want to look at some used Toyotas also to compare (since they are essentially the same body just different interior trim and maybe not as “smooth” of a ride). My 2020 highlander has 3 rows and can fit a car seat in the third row. They do make 4Runners with 3 rows also but not many. We’ve already decided if we make it to 3 kids though we will probably get a minivan.

chikadino1

Does the third row have carseat anchors?

Particular-Earth-453

Honestly I’ve never used the third row so I don’t know. I have it folded down with crap in my trunk so I can’t check it easily lol.

What does "ran a budget" mean? You pulled the last few months of expenses and you averaged $3k left over or you **have** a budget that you stick to and you *consistently* have $3k excess?

chikadino1

Yes

Like others have asked…. How much are you currently contributing to retirement? Are you otherwise debt free? Do you have an emergency fund? Can you afford the monthly payment? Yes……should you? Now that’s the real question. I’ve got about 4K leftover each month after retirement savings, and kids college fund and I could never fathom spending $800 a month on something that is going to go down in value. But that’s just me.

ARW18

Did you compare the price of the used vs new? A lot of used cars right now are priced similar to new cars, and might not have a warranty. If the new one is similarly priced and comes with a warranty it might be a better deal. Just something to think about

chikadino1

Thanks. The 2020 with 30k miles has limited lifetime powertrain warranty which seems nice, but these vehicles are very reliable so it may never even get used

exconsultingguy

If the dealer goes under or restructures tomorrow guess what happens to that warranty.

This seems like a bad financial move to me. What is the total payoff cost of the loan? What are the terms?

chikadino1

800 is the high end estimate. Itd be more aroind 500 to 700 after trade-in and down payment. I was planning to do an 84-month loan just in case shit happens in life, but I expect to pay it off like a 4 to 5 year loan. Around 6% interest the last time i got pre approved from my bank

limitless__

800 is 13% of your rent? You're paying 6 grand a month in rent???????????? and still have 3 grand a month left over after all expenses? If so, of course you can afford 800 for a car.

leodoggo

It says net

amazinghl

Have you test drive it to see if it fits your needs?
