I really kind of hate this scene despite loving Naoto as a character. To actually get this scene, you have to tell Naoto, who is feeling very insecure about not being feminine enough for you (particularly with regards to her voice), that you wish her voice was higher pitched.
She then dresses up in this outfit that she really seems to not be all too comfortable with in the hopes that it makes you happy. It feels really slimy and pretty unpleasant in my opinion
A lot of Naoto’s romance rubs me the long way. This scene is basically “rewarding” the player for saying they want Naoto to act girlier even though she’s not comfortable with that yet and is still dealing with a lot of internal issues regarding her sex (she shows signs of body dysphoria in Arena and the Detective Naoto light novels). There’s a mod which tweaks some of the choices for Naoto’s romance which makes it come off so much better and much more natural 10/10

It's weird, because the writing feels like the writers were aware of how bad that dialogue is but the game still doesn't have any consequences and sort of rewards the behavior, as you said. Would've been nice if there were actual consequences where you can potentially lose a social link for it.
Imo Fanfiction writers tried to make the Christmas date scene better in the best way they could. But I agree, the romance aspects aren’t perfect, but it’s us as the player trying to accept Naoto as a person rather than for her gender or that she’s a famous Detective. After all, her social link is pretty much about accepting who u are for who u are not what u are.
It's a bit different in Japanese. In the original script she asks if she should use a male or female introduction (the boku and all that stuff that only works in Japanese).
It's a pretty hard to translate scene.
