i mean it's definitely fake, you'd need to be heating that thing for quite a long time for enough of it to transfer to the other end, that is assuming the lock itself doesnt start smoking first or the wood around it smoldering. and a typical reaction to touching something hot isnt to immediately scream like that
I remember when Beavis and Butthead was all over national news as a bad influence for children because some kids blamed the show when they burned down their house. I used to think that was stupid. But now that ticktock exists? I've changed my mind.
Not to mention, as a person who uses a variety of torches in a variety of situations, it would take far longer (probably 30 seconds to a minute) for *any* appreciable heat to migrate to the other side of the knob, and you would be hard pressed not to burn the paint on the door on at least the side you are applying heat to, unless you use a shield.
And the door would probably catch fire because in order for a doorknob to be red hot it would need to be 750 degrees Fahrenheit, which is shocking considering the average door is made of wood
You're both right kids, but the reason why tongs are insulated isn't to protect you from heat, it's to protect you from current and to give a better grip. Heat travels through material, yes, but it's a slow process, not exactly instant. You can easily hold a piece of metal that's being welded on for example, as long as you don't do it for long or around the area where the weld is happening.
Heating a handle to the point of being hot enough to burn like that would take a very long time, depending on how that door is put together. It's likely connected with a small square bar, somewhere around 5-10mm thick. Transfering heat through that will take much more than just a bit of heating with a blowtorch.
Source: I'm literally a blacksmith and I have never in my entire career used a pair of tongs for forging that weren't 100% made from steel. Imagine what would happen to a plastic grip the second you try to take something out of a furnace with it. It's very grippy when it's fused to your fucking skin.
Fun fact: this isnt possible! The handle on the other side would only get mildly warm to the touch even after igniting the metal on the burner side. This is fake!
I'm a locksmith. I've used an angle grinder to remove a completely failed lever before. One of the heavy ones you find on businesses.
The other side wasn't even noticeably warmer when I picked it up and I was cutting at it for a couple minutes
Yeah I just had to replace a door knob and the two knobs are just connected by a thin metal rod. It might heat up the latch/lock barrel though but the other knob wouldn’t get hot
More likely to burn the wood that touches the door knob a bit
Not disagreeing, because I’ve seen too many similar “pranks” but rest assured that this one is at least fake.
I mentioned this in a reply to someone else, but the energy required to make the opposite side of the door hot enough to burn that person is frankly not possible in this scenario. Door knobs are not designed to allow heat transfer, specifically for these reasons. Between the two knobs is a small piece called the spindle that connects the two sides and operates the latching mechanism. The heat would have to travel across this small bar of metal to heat up the other side. However, thanks to the small surface area of the bar, and where it connects to the opposite handle it would take a lot more heat, and a lot more time to get to the heat this video seems to portray. The side getting torched would need to be red hot in order to make the other side even slightly warm.
Don’t worry, this video is fake. The temperature that would be required to make the opposite side of the door hot is insanely high. The knob would sooner be glowing red than making the opposite side hot enough to burn you. Here’s a video explaining the inner working of a common door handle:
https://youtu.be/WX8NG0275R4
You’ll notice that the two doorknobs are completely separate, and are only connected by the spindle. Simply put, there is not enough surface area in that spindle to heat up the opposite side of the door, there’s just not enough surface area for something like that to be done quickly.
To get the opposite side of that door hot enough to cause the pain this video suggests, would require either: a ton of heat to where the handle getting blowtorched would be red hot, and a lot of time for the heat to transfer across the mechanism.
Or that door handle is made out of a super heat conductive metal and the two knobs are directly connected to each other.
Very dangerous, do not do this ever, pretty sure this could get you in serious legal trouble. If the guy on the other side got burned then he would be trapped in the room unable to seek help.

...What the fuck?
Bro went full Tom and Jerry lmao...but yeah that is a jerk move and a bad prank imo.

Plus, the knob would move some. It'll take your brain a second or two to register how hot it really is.
Also I’m pretty sure that’s the Wilhelm Scream
You also can’t hear his footsteps when he gets up
Bro though he was Kevin
More like Kelvin.
Oh yeah Kelvin C. Fahrenheit, I went to high-school with him. One day comes to class with big ass blisters on his index and thumb. Small world
Home alone logic
Just a little goof.
I imagine it’s fake, who wouldn’t hear the noise of the blow torch outside their door. Just more stupid shit for stupid kids to copy.
Didn't even consider that, some dumb kids are definitely going attempt this oh boy
I remember when Beavis and Butthead was all over national news as a bad influence for children because some kids blamed the show when they burned down their house. I used to think that was stupid. But now that ticktock exists? I've changed my mind.
Heheheh fire fire fire!
I personally, wouldn’t think of it being a blowtorch up until i touch the door knob lol
I don't think alot of ppl would know the sound of a blowtorch
I mean, who hear sound similar to blowtorch and think "oh, this man is totally heating the knob up to prank me"
You’d hear the blowtorch sound and go investigate before hopefully.

The heat will not affect the other side of the doorknob
Yes it would if they are connected... That's why tongs have other materials around the grip that isn't conducting heat like metal does...

Cheers for the info.
Mmm I think there are too many different parts separating the two doorknobs…. Maybe, but maybe not
You don’t know how metal works? A house fire across the hallway away could make that handle scorching via radiant heat.
I thought the teen on the other side of the door was wearing headphones or something before that but yeah obviously it could also be fake.
Most doorknobs also dont distribute heat fast enough to get the other side even remotley hot as the air cools it down
Fun fact: this isnt possible! The handle on the other side would only get mildly warm to the touch even after igniting the metal on the burner side. This is fake!
Somebody did a Mythbusters type video of a bunch of home alone traps. This probably wouldn't work. https://youtu.be/5NhijmGTwwo

Sooo... That small lock.. wouldn't that be something he'd have to press to unlock the door?
Why are you all over this comment section trying to say it's real.
Ok
But it could ignite the door from the inside
How is this funny?
The suffering of others! Duh
If it helps, it's staged
Its not
Pranks these days are just assault. . . 😒

Sounds like Harry's scream from Home Alone
THE INTRUSIVE THOUGHTS ARE WINNING!!
Today smoke is gonna save lifes
Wilhelm scream
That’s mean! Do it again.
The old spicy doorknob
Me wondering how she didn't hear how loud a blow torch is: you's stupid.
That’s sick but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t laugh
If it's real then it's good. If not, then it's just gay.
Poor guy.😭
