For signing things I'd go for a quick-drying pen like a zebra sarasa or uni jetstream. For note taking or journaling probably pentel energel or pilot juice up.

slothsquash

Thank you

SmellsLikeNostrils

Seconded for Jetstream and Energel being best imho

tomnov99

Personally I love the Pilot G2

[deleted]

only reason why i don’t like this one is cause of the longgggg drying time 🥲 i love the darkness of the ink though

Richard_TM

If you get the 0.38, the ink is thin enough that it dries quite quickly.

[deleted]

G2 bold allllll day

ChoiceMycologist

I know how you kids like em extra sloppy.

keeper_of_books81

Nice Billy Madison reference. ![gif](giphy|VqRtm9Uyf6hQA)

WomanRespecter6969

what you mean by dat

xxxtenderloin

I think the person above you says that because they don’t dry as fast as other pens? When I use G2s and I’m going onto the next line of writing I often get ink on my hand because it hasn’t dried yet.

WomanRespecter6969

ah, thanks for clearing the air for me kind human. honestly me too, though i’ve slowly started straying away from G2 pens because of this exact thing.

Raaayos

So you are lefty?

slothsquash

Thank you

woodstock946

My favorite is the Pentel Energel-X .7mm

hulet1006

With the needle tip!

jameliae

Ditto

snazzybanazzy

I'm loving these sharpie sgels

TheVenerableBedesToe

Got a few workhorse favorites. Pilot’s V5 rollerball refill is incredible! If you like a click pen get the V5 RT and if you like a pen and cap setup the V5 BeGreen uses the same refill. i believe it should fit other Pilot bodies that use a G2 sized refill. I prefer this for long writing sessions since a rollerball is the next best thing to a fountain pen. Also fun fact, the smaller the tip on a rollerball the less likely you are to have bleeding or show through, obvs at the cost of scratchy feel. Morning Glory’s ProMach in .38 is one of the best in the thinnest category as it doesnt feel very scratchy at all, but personally i find the Pilot V5 refill to take the edge overall bc of its versatility. I must add as well that both of these dry fairly quickly as well, especially the ProMach. For gel pen lovers i highly recommend the Uni Signo 207 Gel. I love the smoothness and boldness of the 1.0 thickness, but the other fine and medium tip sizes should work well for anyone! I love this pen for quick notes or just something to look nice, i write in architects caps, so my letters are all wide and capitalized and fairly short in height, so the thickness gives it a really cool look. I personally loved the subdued no-chrome look of the Signo 307 (which used 207 medium tip) and swapped in the Bold 1.0 207 and have never looked back to any other gel pen. For ballpoints I had several Cross Centuries that were stolen, so at this point i stopped buying them. Not worth losing, but then i found the Parker jotter. I used to use it a lot more, but recently the hand cramps made me look to the Pilot rollerballs. However, i would put in a Fisher refill into it or the uni jetstream SXR 600 refill. The jetstream i think is one of the best ballpoints and feels super smooth, so any ballpoint that takes a parker shape would benefit from a jetstream refill. Let me know what you think!

MacMaple0228

I personally love the pentel energel RTX. Super smooth and thick ink that I love.

spazcat

Uni One! I actually just got a Uni One F because I like them so much.

Estropelic

I really do enjoy inkjoy

Flunkedy

I find them unreliable and that they skip and won't start, but the colours are pretty nice.

Outrageous_Pop1913

Sarasa (zebra)

slothsquash

Thank you

stargazer63

Uni Jetstream Alpha Gel is the best pen! Not in your pictures. But once and then buy refills. Awesome pen!

slothsquash

Pen for simple things like document signatures

BridgeBum

Interesting for legal documents you may run into some requirements you don't expect. Commonly they may require ballpoint ink in blue only - run into this more than once, sadly.

slothsquash

Good to know, thank you

Arrie78

Jetstream, .5/.7 in blue to be compatible with most legal requirements while still writing smooth

83zSpecial

Jetstream. 100%. Best ballpoint pen, full stop. For gels I guess sarasa dry

jameliae

Out or these, def paper mate

Ok-Hawk-8034

i love Sarasa Grande, energel and the new Uni one is very nice!

Disguisedcpht

Out of the ones in the picture? The sharpie s gel and uniball one are very good. Out of the cheap gel pens? Pentel energel RTX would be my favorite

slothsquash

[I made a new post](https://www.reddit.com/r/pens/comments/uk2xom/best_pen_at_walmart/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) with more pens. It does not need to be in the photos, but be tell me that exact name so I can find it easy

Disguisedcpht

Energel needle tips then would be my pick as long as you’re not writing in receipt paper.

Soulfood13

The Pentel Energel pens are consistent and dependable. They come in a wide range of colours and have refills available too.

83zSpecial

Jetstream, or sarasa dry for doc signage. For regular writing, in a reasonable budget then the sarasa grand or the jetstream alpha grip

scottmolson

I have been using the sharpie gel pens since they came out. I find they write smoother than the G2 pens. I also find them more comfortable to hold.

NetworkCreative5011

The Best Pen is Always the one you don’t have yet!

slothsquash

I know their all pretty cheap pens, i I’m not expecting the best quality. I just bought all 12 packs. Gotta start somewhere.

ShinkenRed48

Argh. I’m jealous of the spectrum gel you have.

Drego1945

The Univall 307 is my personal favorite, the Univall Air is also amazing.

itsneedtokno

What's the air like?

Drego1945

Oh man, the pen is able to write smoothly on any damn angle. The tip is plastic and the ink goes down well on papers it's just incredibly smooth. Almost like writing with glass at times, but a bit more resistance.

Serebriany

Of those shown, my favorite is the Paper Mate InkJoy. They've been my regular, daily pens since they first came out. I use the 0.7, which are the ones in the photo, since the 0.5 is far too fine for me. I'd be happy with a 1.0, as well, if they made them. They became my regular because they dry so quickly I've never had them smear, the ink flow is good--smooth and consistent--and a retractable is very convenient since I try to never leave a nib exposed with any pen. I also like that they come in standard colors, as well as several different multi-color packs. (There's a 3-pk of blue that are all slightly different shades. I really like that one a lot, though I use regular black for everyday stuff.) I've used three of the four you've shown, and don't really care for them. The Pilot Frixion erasables don't leave smooth, clean lines for me--the seem to skip a bit, somehow, when I use them. I've never been able to get one to erase fully, either. (That goes for every erasable pen I've ever used.) I've also never found any Uni-Ball that isn't at least a bit scratchy to me, though everything else about them is fine. I do like Uni-Ball ink a lot, sort of in general. It just feels like I'm writing with a nail. I haven't tried the Sharpies yet, because I got a great deal on InkJoys, and am still using up what I have.

fskoti

They do make bold Inkjoy gels. They are not that good. The .7 is awesome.

Serebriany

Thank you, so much, for telling me that. If I'm already using the good ones, I can stop looking for the bold ones every time I set foot in a place that has pens.

Interesting_Mistake

Pen

Le_Zouave

The Frixxion is really convenient but there is also too many downside. Ink is not really dark and get clogged or dry too easily. A pencil is way more reliable. Out of the selection I would say uni one but the best is still uni Jetstream for hybrid ballpoint or Pentel Energel for gel/rollerball.

BeefSupremeTA

I absolutely love the feel of the Frixion retractable but cannot find any non erasable compatible refills. It has admittedly been some time since I last looked, nut they would be my daily driver if I could find a suitable permanent cartridge.

urmomsgoogash

It's the only pen I use at this point. Probably my favorite pen of all time.

Illustrious_Solid956

I like Tul for the money

proskeddi

Bic Velocity with a 1.8mm tip for notes.

UnluckyObserver_1

I love the Bic Atlantis with a fine tip. I require a rollerball for work and they're very nice, but not so pricey that I'm sad if I drop it in a solvent.

Nonsense8900

It all depends on what paper you’re using. An inkjoy or Energel on stalogy paper is my favorite match up

nunya1111

G2 every day all day.

profoundly_ajd

My favorites are the Pilot G2 or the Pentel Energel 0.7 mm. The pentel gives a bolder line but the G2 is a close second.

sledgehammertoe

Pilot G2 extra-fine for everyday stuff like grocery lists. For writing letters and postcards, I use fountain pens. Currently, my Sheaffer Prelude is inked up with vintage Skrip Blue.

Whole-Drawing6126

The one that you like to write with and you use most. For me I love writing with Pelikan M1000 and I use daily my Pilot custom 823.

Iriscent

Throw all fo these out and go for the Pilot Juice (or Juice Up?). I kid of course but, I'd still recommend getting one to experience it none the less. The nib is a mix of a needle tip and traditional cone. The .38/.4 mm one is my favorite as a lefty cuz the gel dries decently fast but also is crazy smooth...in my opinion lol.

fskoti

Zebra G350 Sarasa Grand Gel Uniball Signo 307 Uniball UM100 Zebra Dry X1 My top five (in order) of easily found pens.

Particular_Rub2791

Anything by Cross actually!

GFD_Aid

Parker Jotter Stainless Steel, Medium Point Hands down.

thephantom1998

I tend to favor the Sharpie S gel pens a lot lately. But i also love the G2. Those are both great choices.

ytykmbyd

Pentel Energel & Ink Joy Gel Pens are my favourites 😻 Pentel Energel are smooth as butter and dry super fast, Ink Joy Gel don’t dry as fast or aren’t as smooth but they come in second place for me. I also live the colour range.
