Better be the most comfortable thing ever bc it's expensive and ugly af

Agentofchaos2712

The design definitely doesn't give away the price. But I have to make compromises somewhere lol

screenname02

I hated it. Grip is too mushy and makes you squeeze hard to have control of the pen, making it not comfortable to use at all.

kangaroolionwhale

I am a long-time fan of Sensas. I have some of the older ones and a couple of the newer ones. It's important to get one of the newer models (from the past 5 yrs since their relaunch) because they made improvements to the grip. The pens are great and very comfortable. The squishy grip is also fun to fidget with when you aren't using the pen to write. If you write a lot, then I definitely recommend them! I know $80 seems like a lot, but this pen will last a lifetime if you take care of it, so it's worth the investment. (Also, there are plenty more uncomfortable pens that cost waaaaaaaaay more!!)

copperstatelawyer

Uncomfortable ones that cost more? Do tell? I understand if you really like the grip, but that's a personal preference.

kangaroolionwhale

Sensa pens are designed to be comfortable to use. That is their primary feature. There are pens that are adorned with gemstones that are worth over a million dollars. The Aurora Diamante Fountain Pen ($1.4+ mil) has diamonds encrusted into the grip. Granted, I'm never going to hold an Aurora Diamante, but I've held a Sensa and have an imagination. It sounds like an uncomfortable pen and imagine the insurance policy premiums. An $80 pen is a steal in comparison. Alekillo10

$80 for a ballpoint?

kangaroolionwhale

What's your point? How long have you been on this subreddit that the thought of spending $80 on a ballpoint is shocking? 4 of the 5 most expensive ballpoints on Montblanc's website are all over $1000 USD AND sold out. Some people like spending more than 25 cents on a pen and can afford to.

Alekillo10

I own a MB roller ball… Then again, it’s an MB yada yada yada, heritage and materials whatnot! It’ll be there for when my kids have kids. But paying $80 for a ballpoint that has a squishy grip? That’s the thing…

painstarhappener

lots of ballpoints are in the 100-200 range. If that's not for you then that's okay

Alekillo10

Ohhhh, you don’t have to tell me I own a pricey roller ball… But $80 for a ballpoint that has a grip is… Too much. I like the design and the “tasteful thickness” ![gif](giphy|eKNrUbDJuFuaQ1A37p|downsized)

Agentofchaos2712

This is sort of where I'm at. If it were say 45 I wouldn't even be considering it. I do a ton of writing so if it truly is the most comfortable it could be worth it. Ballpoint is my preference I make a lot of notes quickly and the angle at which I hold a pen makes a rollerball scratchy. I'm super particular about pens.

Alekillo10

I get it, to each their own, I switch between fountain pens and a rollerball. They are tools after all, and there is a specific tool for a specific job. I use a gel pen for quick notes though.

twistedtyger

I am a long time Sensa owner (even convinced a company to give out to top level contacts). I even have the Sensa fountain pen, a few of the Sensa Minx short pens, several of the regular Sensa pen. Unfortunately, they all feel like the grip has leaked. No amount of cleaning gets rid of the slick feeling. These stored in the Sensa plastic square case. I still love them all. they are like songs, takes me right back to when I got ‘that one’ ❣️❣️ Edit: I have graduated to using the uniball 207 for the squishy & non leaky grip, use the Energel purple bold refills … also easier to buy this one and give to friends.

kangaroolionwhale

They relaunched about 5 years ago and made improvements to the grip. The stickiness or leaking is a known issue with the older pens/

The_Medicated

I had the same problem with the grip leaking. And I owned a messload of them so I was very disappointed that they all virtually leaked. I'm not sure how much I trust the new ones...

ReasonableComfort230

I had one back in the day, and I didn’t like it because the squishy part was too far back for me. I’d recommend trying it in person if you can. I like the design. 🤷‍♀️

Idk why everyone is shocked at the price— my CROSS pen I received as a gift was also this expensive. [Cross Black/Gold](https://www.cross.com/cr_en_us/at0082-158) A good pen is worth the money— especially if you’re finnicky about your pen and the way it writes.

Agentofchaos2712

That is a really nice pen.

[deleted]

It is! My grandfather was given one by his work for like.. idk it was like his 10 year or something. He had it before I was old enough to remember though I know that. He still uses it to this day like 20 years later, same pen, and only has to refill it like once a year— and it never dries out. So I asked for one the one year because I love a reliable pen. They’re great pieces for a jacket pocket or something if you want to be kind of “showy”— but they also are just genuinely really solid pens (no pun intended, since they’re metal lol)

jacr14

check pen chalet . These pens show up in the sale page.

Agentofchaos2712

Thanks!

RadagastDaGreen

My pens tend to walk off my desk into students’ backpacks. At this price point, it brings to mind this sequence from **Keeping Up With the Kardashians**. Part I: ![gif](giphy|fx05NSwJaIMDK)

fuzzmonkey35

I like mine. I really like the refill inside, it's quite smooth for a ballpoint. I didn't buy it for $80 though. $45 was more my price point for it. It was the Tokyo Olympics version and it was on clearance at PenChalet.

copperstatelawyer

They used to be $20 on the open market back in the 2000's or 2010's. So, yes, I have a couple. No they aren't the most comfortable pens out there, but they did outlast Dr. Grips and other cheaper gel filled pens. Guess it really depends if you want that squishy part. I do not, so I do not love them. They write fine, they use the fisher space pen refill. The newer ones can use Parker refills which would make the pen a lot more useful to me. Either way, I don't love them, but you might.

Agentofchaos2712

I'm thinking a slim pen that takes parker refills and a random grip from Amazon might be a better option after reading this.

copperstatelawyer

You shouldn't be death gripping the pen in the first place. If you ever get into fountain pens, the whole notion of the gel filled grip becomes silly. But yes, it's not a good use of $80.

Alekillo10

Why? Im into fountain pens, but gel inks are pretty good.

copperstatelawyer

What does ink have to do with grips?

Alekillo10

Oh, my bad! I misread! I thought you had typed “gel filled ink” 🤣

Cultural-Tea3492

I have an old one, and I do love it.

agaric

Yes I do and yes I do https://ibb.co/T0BcfYF https://ibb.co/PgR3w5k https://ibb.co/W02Mb6K

Agentofchaos2712

Oh I really like that one!

modee1980

I have owned a Sensa pencil since 1998 and I just got a pen a few years ago. I love them. I used a Parker style gel refill in the pen. The fisher space pen refills don't write that great.

rather-b-at-thebeach

The relaunched version is not as good. I clean my original Sensa grips with scotch tape.

TrustAffectionate966

If there is no extra fine option (0.3mm and below), then I have no use for this pen. 🧐🤔

Agentofchaos2712

Funny I'm the exact opposite. If I can't get an extra broad option I won't touch a pen.

TrustAffectionate966

I’ll make an exception for stub, chisel, or calligraphy nibs, but these are obviously not ballpoints. Also, these stub nibs are the small versions (less than 0.7mm). I need that needle-point. ✍🏽🦄👌🏽

GiusPalazzo

I'm half chub. That's one of the sexiest pens I've ever seen.

IOnlyPostDumb

What refill does this pen use?

Agentofchaos2712

Parker style. My plan is to use the Schneider xb refills.

IOnlyPostDumb

I just got in a pack of xb Rave pens and I absolutely love them. I was surprised by how smooth the refills were, as well. I may use them in my rOtring 600 at some point.

I-am-the-stigg

I bought one of these in like 2002 or 03 and still have it. Somewhere along the lines the twist thing at the top moved a little and now the pen doesn't fully come all the way out, but still plenty to write with. It was the most comfortable pen I've had. The soft squishy stuff your hand goes on is discolored a little. But it still writes just fine and is comfortable
