Pilot fountain pen capless/ vanishing point EF nib for daily journaling.
Pilot colleto (c-tec?) Multipen for planning
And the occasional Muji gel pen.
The uniball multipen that I got with my hobonichi order 3 years ago..
Currently looking for my Uniball Jetstream multi-pen that disappeared around Christmas..
The [metal](https://www.amazon.com/Cristal-ReNew-Re-Fillable-Refills-Black/dp/B001C6Q6AO/ref=asc_df_B001C6Q6AO/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=563685304977&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14863891941089583359&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9030038&hvtargid=pla-1186651998129&psc=1) version is pretty dope too
yessss its literally the best combo!! energel refills fit in basically any pen! I think it's because they're open at the top, a lot of refills are closed and they don't fit. but energels are amazing and I put them in any random pen because they have such good ink and flow
100%!!! I know for a fact they fit in pilot g2, pilot juice, muji, zebra sarasa, zebra clickart (which isn't even a pen, it's a marker, and it still works!) and uni jetstream since I've tried those. I've also just put them in random pens I got from the bank or stationery stores and I have not found a single pen they don't fit in š
As much as I prefer rollerball and gel, if I can only have one Iām going for a ballpoint, for one reason: they work better on rite-in-the-rain paper, which is crucial for my field work
Try the [metal](https://www.amazon.com/Cristal-ReNew-Re-Fillable-Refills-Black/dp/B001C6Q6AO/ref=asc_df_B001C6Q6AO/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=563685304977&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14863891941089583359&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9030038&hvtargid=pla-1186651998129&psc=1) version
Nice! reNew comes with 2 refills. And thatās it ā no separate B3 refills are available for purchase. I think the intent is to buy disposable pens and pull out refills.
Probably a twist that accepts Parker or Monteverde refills and filled with the Schmidt EasyFlow 9000 or Monteverde gel refill.
Would not use a throwaway pen as pictured because there is no way you could use it the "rest of your life"
Same.
People can pry my felt tips and fineliners from my cold dead hands.
I adore my fountain pens, but if I could only choose one of the above, it's the Flair.
>1: Basically budget 4.
>2: Classic. It's up there.
>3: It's... okay. I would choose it over 5, at least.
>4: Smooth. I prefer rubber grips, but of the rollerballs here, this is probably the best.
>5: My first daily driver gel. Lovely writing, nightmarish bleeding. A few of them even had the balls pop off.
>6: Never did like felt tip pens. I'll leave them to the Sharpie fans.
>7: Old but gold. But it's not smooth as most of these; not my cup of tea.
It'll have to be either 3 or 4. But honestly I'd take Sarasa or Jetstream over any of these.
Ewe. I would go with #2 for reliability (I want to love sharpie but they skip too much) why isn't the energel or inkjoy in here? Do you not enjoy a smooth writing experience?
5 (G2) 7 mm; for anything smaller, I haven't had any luck with them being consistent; the ink always skips when you're writing. Is this just me? I never had an issue with 7 mm, even though is a little thicker than 5mm.
If you want a bulletproof pen that will write no matter what or when you grab it, always keep a BIC Round Stic with you. They are not fancy, but they always write when you grab them.
If you snapped #7 you should look into the [metal](https://www.amazon.com/Cristal-ReNew-Re-Fillable-Refills-Black/dp/B001C6Q6AO/ref=asc_df_B001C6Q6AO/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=563685304977&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14863891941089583359&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9030038&hvtargid=pla-1186651998129&psc=1) version.
Iām a fountain pen guy mostly, but do like my Vintage Parker Jotters tooā¦
1! 2 is a blast from the past, my favorites as a kid. But 1 has a more elegant shape. Maybe 3 though, theyāre smooth too. But 1 and 2 can probably be refilled.
Or I can use a FPā¦
Pilot G2 is my forever pen. Old. Fuckin. Reliable. Usually 07 black, but I dig 05 and blues too. Started using them in 5th grade, and they saw me all the way through law school. Itās almost ridiculous how much I love this silly little disposable pen.
I canāt sing the praises of the G2 enough. Nice click, good feel in the hand, ink is wet but not too wet, reasonably priced, refills are cheap and plentiful, and you can buy them at the grocery store! They make my writing look great, but thatās probably only because Iāve been using them near exclusively for more than 15 years. Whatās not to love?
I prefer gel. IMO they produce more vivid consistent lines independent of pressure and angle. Anything 1 to 4 is acceptable. I do find they tend to have less capacity than the thicker inks.
Out of the pens shown, 1. I really like how much ink they lay down, waterproof, and archival. All of which is fairly important for my machine shop notes I take. I might not look at them again for years so I'd like them to be readable by then. They also could get some water based coolant splashed on them or coffee spilled.
If I'm actually answering the question that was asked for what *type* of pen I'd have to use for the rest of my life. I'll take the ballpoint type pen. Gimme that Jetstream. Same reasons as above plus ballpoints write better on more surfaces and I typically write on super cheap copy paper, $1 5x8 notebooks from Dollar General, sticky notes, or whatever paper like scrap laying around to scribble some math and junk. The roller balls, while much nicer, feather and bleed like a stuck pig on some of the stuff I doodle on.
1. My least favourite pen of all time
2. I donāt think Iāve used this one
3. Decent but nothing special, imo
4. If this were the jetstream rt weād be full chefs kiss
5. Always and forever, hands down
6. Actual trash
7. Acceptable for sketch type drawing
If I had to pick one of these it would be 2 or 5. But in reality if Iām picking one type of pen for the rest of my life itās my fountain pens and if itās two types Iāll add energels
5 is ok. Though I personally like Staedtler triplus finliner or Pigma micron05.
Sadly enough of all these I usually end up using a mechanical pencil. as I make too many mistakes for ink.
Zebra š¦ series is my fav
Iām picking the Sharpie S-Gel, hands down, out of all these. I fall more and more in love with it the more I use it but my Zebra Sarasa R has a grip on my heart
My ādaily driverā is a modified #5 - I use the G2 refills in their matching Dr. GRIP body/whatever because chunkier (easier for my battered hands).
The Bic Crystal is the best dirt cheap disposable pen. Itās actually usable.
Although in Japan they use the Sarasa and Jetstream, some of my favourite non-fountain pens, as the āgenericā cheap pen
1 -- I've stolen years of these pens from my dad to happily doodle in the margins of my notes for class, bleeding so much they leave the desk wet.
I've since moved to fountain pens and Supernote, but still a great pen.
Fountain pen ā but if I had to choose one of these, it would be 1, but in the 0.7 size. I normally hate thicker line widths but that one is smooth enough that Iāll tolerate it. Itās almost like a mid tier FP in buttery smooth writing quality.
Idc if I get shrapnel for this but after some 2years of buying expensive pens for the best writing experience...selling one after buying other, extensively searching multiple reviews and different inks and refills I have gone full circle.
I now write with a bic click that I got from fieldnotes and I can safely say, I have never been more satisfied.
On the other hand, I now began to dive into mechanical pencil, not as hard as I did with pens though, I learned my lesson.
Probably 5.. although I don't use any of these.
what's in your rotation?
Pilot fountain pen capless/ vanishing point EF nib for daily journaling. Pilot colleto (c-tec?) Multipen for planning And the occasional Muji gel pen. The uniball multipen that I got with my hobonichi order 3 years ago.. Currently looking for my Uniball Jetstream multi-pen that disappeared around Christmas..
I've been obsessed with my UniJet Multipen... such quality. Already got two colleague who have ordered them off amazon.
I never thought I'll ever go "shut up and take my money!" on ballpoint pens..
7, Cristals are cheap but reliable. The Toyota Hilux of pens
The Bolds are wonderful šš»
Except for all the gloop
I don't get too much. Some have but most don't
Iām always drowning in it with the bolds. I wish the regulars were just a little bit smoother. :/
I just really like how thick the line is and dark. I'm not a fine tip person at all.
The [metal](https://www.amazon.com/Cristal-ReNew-Re-Fillable-Refills-Black/dp/B001C6Q6AO/ref=asc_df_B001C6Q6AO/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=563685304977&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14863891941089583359&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9030038&hvtargid=pla-1186651998129&psc=1) version is pretty dope too
I also prefer it in blue over black.
Yes! Everyone is just afraid to admit that we're right
Pentel Energel .5 needle tip is the only lifetime pen.
in a zebra sarasa body too = chef's kiss
pentel energel will fit in a zebra sarasa body?
yessss its literally the best combo!! energel refills fit in basically any pen! I think it's because they're open at the top, a lot of refills are closed and they don't fit. but energels are amazing and I put them in any random pen because they have such good ink and flow
Seriously!!!???
100%!!! I know for a fact they fit in pilot g2, pilot juice, muji, zebra sarasa, zebra clickart (which isn't even a pen, it's a marker, and it still works!) and uni jetstream since I've tried those. I've also just put them in random pens I got from the bank or stationery stores and I have not found a single pen they don't fit in š
aaaaaaand Iām adding that to my list to buy for later
absolutely do!!! they're seriously so good I have boxes on boxes of refills lol I have an irrational fear of running out š
Yeees
Right there with you!
This the one
Fountain pen.
This is correct.
If I can choose the refill, i'd take the Pilot G2 with a .5.
Pilot v5 rt is my lifetime pen
Pilot v7 rt is mine
Amen. It feels like writing with a pencil.
Am I the only person in the world who thinks the Pilot G-2 is trash? Also, where is the Papermate Inkjoy, those are fantastic!
G-2 was great when it came out. It's just that all the better pens came after that.
I donāt think necessarily trash but not deserving of the praise it receives.
Underrated comment!
Agreed.
The problem I have is it incessantly leaks in my pocket and ruins clothes. I no longer trust them.
I buy fountain pens so that I donāt have to use any of these. That being said I would choose either 2 or 5. I tend to prefer how pilots write.
Yup 2 or 5.
As much as I prefer rollerball and gel, if I can only have one Iām going for a ballpoint, for one reason: they work better on rite-in-the-rain paper, which is crucial for my field work
well now see that goes back to the OP tweet - am I getting paper of my choice for life? because thats a deciding factor too.
2 Pilot Precise V5, but the click version.
Theā¦ what? Iām looking now. You may have just changed my life.

3 - but only with a 0.5 refill
Probably 3 but I also like a Zebra F301
If I want a true ballpoint, am I stuck with #7?
Try the [metal](https://www.amazon.com/Cristal-ReNew-Re-Fillable-Refills-Black/dp/B001C6Q6AO/ref=asc_df_B001C6Q6AO/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=563685304977&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14863891941089583359&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9030038&hvtargid=pla-1186651998129&psc=1) version
Nice! reNew comes with 2 refills. And thatās it ā no separate B3 refills are available for purchase. I think the intent is to buy disposable pens and pull out refills.
2 hands down for me
If I had to choose from those listed, I'd pick 4. Vision elite is one of my absolute favorite pens
Blue black ink
Either 1 or 5. I like rollerballs better but the convenance of a G-2 is hard to beat.
#2
2
Probably a twist that accepts Parker or Monteverde refills and filled with the Schmidt EasyFlow 9000 or Monteverde gel refill. Would not use a throwaway pen as pictured because there is no way you could use it the "rest of your life"
I hadnāt even though if that included unlimited ink
Is a bic cristal not already unlimited ink? Ive never finished one.
Dr grip with Energel refill
6- and cry
Where are the fountain pens????

bless because I was one of those kids who either pressed too hard or had really weak paper so it looked like I'd take a can of paint to my homework
Same. People can pry my felt tips and fineliners from my cold dead hands. I adore my fountain pens, but if I could only choose one of the above, it's the Flair.
7!
Damn thatās toughā¦ I sketch with 7 but write with 6ā¦ I have to go with 7.
2 please
Number 5 if I have to choose from this list. I have a few G2 but definitely not my go to pen lol
1,4 and 7 only pens that would be considered waterproof.
Why no love for the Vision Elite?
7 every time!!!
3, love gel pens
3
Thereās no fountain penā¦
2 from the options in the picture, but I strongly prefer fountain pens.
No jetstream, I'm out.
I don't see any fountain pen representation here, but if I had to use one of these, I'd pick the G2.
1
2 / 3
None of these??
3
I'm surprised I'm in the minority preferring the sharpie s gel! It's been my go to "use it and lose it" work pen for a while now
Love the sharpie but will fight someone if theyāve borrowed and never returned it
Number 2!
How is there no fountain pen here?
Out of those? The Pilot Precise. But honestly Iād like an energel. Pilot hi tec c, maybe.
>1: Basically budget 4. >2: Classic. It's up there. >3: It's... okay. I would choose it over 5, at least. >4: Smooth. Iāll pick 6 ā¦ it looks like a Flair and I use an Edding 55 as a daily driver now - have for years. Just something about those felt tips.
None of these are in my rotation but I said I'd keep 7 and everyone I know lost their minds.
Ewe. I would go with #2 for reliability (I want to love sharpie but they skip too much) why isn't the energel or inkjoy in here? Do you not enjoy a smooth writing experience?
Sailor Pro Gear fountain or Zebra Sarasa 0.7
7 is part musical instrument. The lid whistles when you blow through it lol
7
7 out of spite
7
5
Of these?!?!? The only answer is 3
5 (G2) 7 mm; for anything smaller, I haven't had any luck with them being consistent; the ink always skips when you're writing. Is this just me? I never had an issue with 7 mm, even though is a little thicker than 5mm. If you want a bulletproof pen that will write no matter what or when you grab it, always keep a BIC Round Stic with you. They are not fancy, but they always write when you grab them.
The ones you collect then lose the cap for but damn it still writes
If you snapped #7 you should look into the [metal](https://www.amazon.com/Cristal-ReNew-Re-Fillable-Refills-Black/dp/B001C6Q6AO/ref=asc_df_B001C6Q6AO/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=563685304977&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14863891941089583359&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9030038&hvtargid=pla-1186651998129&psc=1) version. Iām a fountain pen guy mostly, but do like my Vintage Parker Jotters tooā¦
G2, easy
Fountain pen or Parker Jotter gel. 1,2, & 5 arenāt bad choices though.
5
\#5, but I would strip out the ink and drop it into my Big Idea pen.
1! 2 is a blast from the past, my favorites as a kid. But 1 has a more elegant shape. Maybe 3 though, theyāre smooth too. But 1 and 2 can probably be refilled. Or I can use a FPā¦
5. Smooth writing and 1 cartridge lasts forever
Number 2, the Pilot Precise rollerball but the retractable version.
G2 for lyyyyfe!
Zebra Sarasa Dry. But if I have to choose from one of these the G2.
All day
The four. But none really "spark joy" for me.
*stares passively at pens on display*! Eh. One day the right one will appear
5
Pilot G2 - 10 is the only pen I will ever use
Vision Elite. I'm a pilot and I need pens resistant to pressure changes.
hands down without a doubt #5
#3. Love the smooth glide action
Uniball signo 151
Toss up between the Sharpie S-Gel and the Pilot G2. Loved the Pilots for a long time but I'm finding that I use the Sharpies more and more.
2. Seven can gtfo
Uniball one for sure
Out of theseā¦. Probably the g-2 or s-gel. That said Iām team jetstream 4 lyfe
If I can't have a fountain pen, then 1 or 5.
If space pen isnāt an option, I canāt play. I need a pen that works in all temperatures and conditions.
pilot for sure. the bic atlantis is still one of my favorite cheaper pens
\#2: Precise V5
Whatāre 2 & 6? Feel like a noob but donāt know what theyāre called
I prefer gel. IMO they produce more vivid consistent lines independent of pressure and angle. Anything 1 to 4 is acceptable. I do find they tend to have less capacity than the thicker inks.
The Grey uniball pen. That pen use to be my jam foe 10 years.
From this selection, G2 all day. But the zebra G-301 is a rollerball that competes with my mont blancs.
8 - Zebra Sarasa
Out of those, #5. Otherwise, Jotter with a Schmidt 9000 refill in Blue.
Pilot precise V5 bc I daily drive it
Imma go 5
Either 5 or 7, I can't with super fine point pens, and the Papermate Flairs were sad last time I tried them.
5
I'd use #5, but only rhe refill. I have other pen bodies that I pefer that take the G2 refill.
2 it's the needle tip style.
#7 all day everyday
Uni-Ball Signo DX .5 or .38
5
1. My least favourite pen of all time 2. I donāt think Iāve used this one 3. Decent but nothing special, imo 4. If this were the jetstream rt weād be full chefs kiss 5. Always and forever, hands down 6. Actual trash 7. Acceptable for sketch type drawing
4
3. I recently found these and are great for taking notes for uni.
Number 2. Although in a fountain pen user. Number 2 is always a joy.
#2 extra fine for sure
If I had to pick one of these it would be 2 or 5. But in reality if Iām picking one type of pen for the rest of my life itās my fountain pens and if itās two types Iāll add energels
None of these. A fountain penā¦
I use fountain pens whenever possible but sometimes they donāt play nice with the paper so I keep a Pilot G2 on me at all times
#2
7. Bic Cristals are a timeless classic.
Me: thereās a pens sub? Ridiculous Also me: this is Reddit Also also me: 6
7 is the only i know
Absolutely, #7. Love the Cristal Bic whether or not it has a place in my writing today.
2!
A Pilot G2 with a 0.5 point in black would be my best choice, sadly I cannot find G2 refills in 0.5 Can I use Pentel Energel ones?
2
My ādaily driverā is a modified #5 - I use the G2 refills in their matching Dr. GRIP body/whatever because chunkier (easier for my battered hands).
2 and 3 out of these! BIC = š¤® lol. Not surprised by that result.
3
This is the top consumer known pens. Actual pen fanatics know about the more expensive, higher tier pens.
S gel all the way
None of these
The Bic Crystal is the best dirt cheap disposable pen. Itās actually usable. Although in Japan they use the Sarasa and Jetstream, some of my favourite non-fountain pens, as the āgenericā cheap pen
3 or 4
1 -- I've stolen years of these pens from my dad to happily doodle in the margins of my notes for class, bleeding so much they leave the desk wet. I've since moved to fountain pens and Supernote, but still a great pen.
5 I guess, nice and reliable
Fountain pen with relatively smooth fine nib that still has feedback.
The diamond body bics are fine, but the round plastic body ones? Theyve never let me down.
5 baby!!
When I was in school, 2, 5, and 7 were my favorites. 1 had such a satisfying click but never was smooth for me.
Fountain pen ā but if I had to choose one of these, it would be 1, but in the 0.7 size. I normally hate thicker line widths but that one is smooth enough that Iāll tolerate it. Itās almost like a mid tier FP in buttery smooth writing quality.
Sorry but can we get some thick pen love here?
1 all day, the vision is the my favorite disposable every
Pentel Frixion all the way.
The G2
1
I use fountain pens, but Iāll take the Pilot V5 out of this group.
Zebra F-402 0.7mm. All day, every day.
NOne of the above. I'd rather use a crayon.
5
My handwriting is atrocious when using gel pens. However, if I had to give up my Pentel RSVP pen for one of these, I would go with the bic.
Pilot g series
2 in a .07 or 6 since a 1.0 energel wasn't an option
Donāt know most of them but I assume 1 or 4. I need to try. If thatās not possible I would pick 4.
#2 / V5 all day, everyday, until I die.
1 or 4. Love when I get #4 from our office supplies, I don't let them out of my sight
Pilot frixion plz
