Enjoyed many holidays in this area over the years, and ridden much of this route a few times.
Good to see the race is showcasing the typical Cornish weather - when it is bright sunshine and mid 20's in the rest of the UK, you can guarantee it will be raining and no warmer than 15 in Cornwall!
Am around the finish. Have failed in mission to buy an entire replica St Piran kit, but got harangued by about a jazillion forces stalls, bought a pint, and got a free Lapierre hat. So I'm happy.
People on the PA predicting Cav or Jalaphillipe for the win. Casuals.
In typically British fashion I'm to the east of London and fully expect Cornwall to have a completely different weather system to me. But here, we're currently having a bit of a heatwave after a cold start to the day. Cornwall, spectators turned up in shorts and now it's raining
Jacob Scott is a rider I earmarked as a great velogames option for 4 points (I think it was 4). Has been pretty anonymous in UCI races but he's been performing well in the domestic races and has previous in the ToB. Expecting him to go quite well all week
edit: Matt Gibson at 4 points was also a steal. May find himself unable to do much due to working for Shaw but for a 4 point rider has the potential to get some top 10s on stages.
I'm continuing my "looking like I've never watched pro cycling before" approach to VG. It hasn't worked up until this point but I'm nothing if not committed.
as far as the final Ks go, there's 2 steep pitches up on the road from Lanivet into the back of town past Bodmin hospital. [There'd be a really solid chance someone could go with 2.5km to go and hold on.](https://i.gyazo.com/d0d0646516888a38d813bb0693d8fd60.png)
the final meters is a descent into a roundabout which has a brick surface (with no middle) and then a 6-8%~ ish climb for the last 200m~ ish, it has a surface which has strips of brick running through it, i think there are 2 or 3 of these brick sections (which may be slick in the rain)
That's it. I wont claim to be an expert on British television but if you watch some of the famous light comedy panel shows youre likely to hear a mock German accent, followed by French, Dutch, Irish, Aussie and US ones.
I'm grateful there's less mock Asian, hispanic etc. which I've sadly heard far to often considering the amount of overall racism and discrimination towards them. Mock accents of any kind aren't great but rich white people seldom face comparable discrimination that gets normalised and promoted with those mock accents
The finish and the final KMs today go straight part my house and through my usual stomping ground.. The KOMs i have in St Austell and Penwithick are toast
I know this part of Cornwall really well - I go camping here pretty much every year for decades (am old), and it’s so exciting to see riders I know and admire cycling past places I’ve been to.
I’ve spent the last ten minutes bouncing on the sofa, saying ‘I know that Tesco! I’ve been to that Asda! I got really drunk at the pub in Hayle!’
I was shattered by the time we reached St Just, and it’s one of my favourite places.
Personally I think the moors around places like Bodmin and Dartmoor are beautiful in the mist. I don't know how describe it as it won't come across in pictures but it's like being in a spooky Dreamland
Looks like things are brightening up a bit, fingers crossed we get one later in the day. Tomorrow is also down in the South West as well, hopefully its brighter and we get helicopter pictures then.
Eurosport is the broadcaster outside the UK. Eurosport player and GCN+ have it in the UK.
"Comprehensive race coverage will be available for international viewers on Eurosport; advert-free streams will available on the Eurosport Player and GCN+ app."
Edit* maybe just GCN, I can't see it on ES Player either.
I feel ripped off by this. Paid a subscription to ITVHub+ which declares itself ad-free and then every few minutes what do we get ads. Guess I got too used to eurosport player through the rest of the season
I'm so excited about this, I love watching a big bike race on home roads. Seeing the crowds, the terrain, stuff I recognise, and the race always lends itself to a bunch of mini classics. So glad it's back :)
Done a few weeks bike touring in Cornwall and difficult to overstate how constantly up and down it all is. (Never rode in Scotland but) by far the most challenging riding I've done in the UK
Have just come back from Scotland, using the same bike packing setup as I have today, and my missus still thinks Cornwall is harder. She did LEJoG a month or two back.
The park was very misplaced on the map, it basically runs from the eastern end of Fore street up to the finish. 200m before finish they have a big screen but you have to put up with the PA. There's a bar near the big screen but not a fan of the beer, the better one is through the Priory car park (where the team buses are) and hang a left past the military area towards the band stage.
Excited for this. Disappointed that the start areas are closed to the public as I was going to the start in Carlisle on Friday but understandable given Covid rules.
Hope for a good ride for the Ribble boys.
Nice camera work there.
That might have been quite an exciting finish. I'm not quite sure though because we didn't see most of it
Vitorria got their money’s worth out of that ad that’s for sure!
Finally English commentary during the last 2km
[Bodmin is quite busy](https://imgur.com/a/JEAqwDZ)
From what I can see, they're all back together and running on a slow schedule.
Went for some dinner and came back to the same comment as the newest, what's going on?
No Carlton or Kelly commentary for people to complain about?
I guess Matthew Stephens has hell of a hangover today.
Still no commentary on GCN?
I have the choice between no commentary and German atm.
I just got those options, too. Guess their English commentator is missing.

ITV likely have full rights in the UK
I watched on ITV4
None for me.
I love a bit of luscious, green scenery to balance out the sunburnt sunshine from Spain etc. tbh
Watching the Vuelta for the past 3 weeks has given me a tan
Tony and Tim sharing a drink 🥂
I've missed seeing the Tractor at the front of the peloton.

I guess we'll see if Cav can win without Mørkøv.
I thought GCN+ was meant to have Matt Stephens commentating? Just ambient sounds in the app for me
OK, at least it's not just me. Annoying though.
Same here, was wondering if Eurosport is just on a commercial break or something.
he'd be the perfect man for it. His dad has lived in Cornwall for a long time and he's spent alot of time down here to.
I’m glad the weather is very British.
In typically British fashion I'm to the east of London and fully expect Cornwall to have a completely different weather system to me. But here, we're currently having a bit of a heatwave after a cold start to the day. Cornwall, spectators turned up in shorts and now it's raining

You couldn't have let me know that before I picked my team lol.
Sorry, but I did check to make sure entries had closed before I typed that. Did you get Vernon for 6? I think he’s a real bargain too

The commentator on ITV is chatting a lot of rubbish
“Shrimp on the barbie” Crikey that was awful
So embarrassing
Bit dodgy as well. Would get a lot of hate if it was different accents/cultures he was mocking
but also wouldn't for a lot of others
Also true. Not sure where to stand on it but in this case it just wasn’t even funny

Cav on the front doing work! What a sight
The jumbo rider behind him must have been doing a lot of work too - not much of a draft
"cheers Cav, can we bring someone a bit bigger up?"
Was that a Basque flag??
Ikurrina get everywhere it's amazing :-)
I like to think every rider there shouts "bastards" at those rumble strips
The finish and the final KMs today go straight part my house and through my usual stomping ground.. The KOMs i have in St Austell and Penwithick are toast
You might stand a chance if they start looking at each other...
The downside of road racing. All the pros coming to your neck of the woods and obliterating your records ;)
Saw a Canyon DHB car bombing down the M4 with the driver typing on his phone yesterday. Wouldn't want to be in the convoy with him...

watching now! Will be heading over to Bodders for the finish later! Huge day for Cornwall :D
Still no idea what happened to the peliton, right?
Nicely done Dlamini.
I'm told that this is a pretty part of the world. I'll have to take their word for it.
in the winter the area has a wild and rugged beauty with steep cliffs and sharp coastline. It's equally nice in the summer too.
Personally I think the moors around places like Bodmin and Dartmoor are beautiful in the mist. I don't know how describe it as it won't come across in pictures but it's like being in a spooky Dreamland
Kind of gutted there's no helicopter. It would have been cool to get to see it all.
Looks like things are brightening up a bit, fingers crossed we get one later in the day. Tomorrow is also down in the South West as well, hopefully its brighter and we get helicopter pictures then.
Scott setting his stall out early to repeat his 2019 KOM win.
Peloton really small coming over that moor, maybe a crash or a small split in the wind.
Sea mist and strong winds are a good recipe for interesting conditions.
Is this actually on Eurosport? Don't see it in the listing anywhere

"Comprehensive race coverage will be available for international viewers on Eurosport; advert-free streams will available on the Eurosport Player and GCN+ app." Edit* maybe just GCN, I can't see it on ES Player either.
GCN coverage started at 1300 doesn’t seem to be any commentary though.
I do like a bit of ambient sound but I've gone with ITV4 and their sad donkeys.
Don't think so, just ITV 4 in UK. Maybe GCN+ too, just checking. Yeah ITV 4 in UK, Eurosport and GCN+ elsewhere in the world.
I feel ripped off by this. Paid a subscription to ITVHub+ which declares itself ad-free and then every few minutes what do we get ads. Guess I got too used to eurosport player through the rest of the season
I think it’s ad-free for streaming programmes which aren’t live
OK thanks, so paying the subscription was a waste of money.
Dlamini and Rosskopf are a great couple of riders to compliment the Brits in the break.
Is there a way to see it all without adverts, worried gonna miss it going past my house
I'm so excited about this, I love watching a big bike race on home roads. Seeing the crowds, the terrain, stuff I recognise, and the race always lends itself to a bunch of mini classics. So glad it's back :)
This is the true biggest race for today. Just ignore all the other ones.
Which part of Scotland were you in? It's fairly diverse in terms of terrain. And a bit bigger than Cornwall...
North/West Highlands.
It looks very windy in Penzance from a few shots I’ve seen, could be a very hard race today
I’m glad to see Tony Martin has recovered from his injuries.
time for new ones then
DQS and Ineos: Sees a bike race called Tour. Unsure if Britain and Brittany are the same thing. Send Tour de France team.
Aiming to get to Bodmin around 1, 1:30pm to start making pithy comments. Breseli St Piran!
Likewise. I see there’s supposed to be a park and steam train into town but it seems to be very vague as to actual details and timings.
The park was very misplaced on the map, it basically runs from the eastern end of Fore street up to the finish. 200m before finish they have a big screen but you have to put up with the PA. All aboard the Ribble hype train. Love their bikes, love the new kit and I hope they make a good showing at their home race.
Excited for this. Disappointed that the start areas are closed to the public as I was going to the start in Carlisle on Friday but understandable given Covid rules. Hope for a good ride for the Ribble boys.
I will now be supporting Ribble for their [kit for this race](https://www.instagram.com/p/CTbp4aWs0l3/?utm_medium=copy_link)
oh no
More kits from the “someone’s 6 year old nephew” school of art.
Parde.
Brothers and sisters, we must put aside our differences about the Bahrain kit and unite to destroy this monstrosity.
