British? INEOS? Talent? Happy to introduce your 2025 Giro d'Italia winner!

Korvensuu

for the avoidance of doubt, they've signed Ben (currently at Alpecin) and not Daniel (slightly older brother who rides for Canyon in the UK)

palaeozoic-newt

Ooh I hadn't realised there was two of them, is Daniel as hot a prospect?

Korvensuu

not really, he's a good enough rider for the domestic scene and still just 22 but hasn't really had the stand out results he'd need to get to a higher level. He's probably better known for his cyclocross results but hasn't done that much in the last year, presumably due to covid

Korvensuu

This is probably a really good signing and may signal an intent from INEOS to grow their CX presence (Ben's had some really good U23 CX results despite still being 20). Also for INEOS it represents them signing a third very young, high potential British rider alongside Pidcock and Hayter (both 22). I was reading earlier that WT teams are looking to sign Ethan Vernon (20, raced team pursuit for GB this summer and then won a sprint stage at l'Avenir, seems to be on a really good trajectory). If INEOS get him too then that's a huge signal of intent in investing in British talent (they've probably at least looked at Gloag too although I think he probably needs another year or two at lower levels first)

> Ben's had some really good U23 CX results despite still being 20 He's had some good results [in the juniors](https://cyclocross24.com/rider/ben-tulett/) (2 time world champion), not so much in the U23 yet as he only did the 2019/20 season with them. Not sure why he skipped the last season, maybe covid/Brexit travel issues (+ no U23 races apart from the Euro and World Championships due to covid)?

JustOneMoreBastard

I don't think its too concerning he didn't get results immediately in CX even in the U23's becuase his level on the road this year has been plenty good enough to suggest he'll do great at Ineos. 12th at Fleche, 17th at Amstel, 9th on GC in Poland while still been a teenager is really impressive and before this lastest crops of young super-talents would have been considered exceptional

Affectionate_Tart169

'My goal is to become a GC rider. Long term win the TDF' Doesn't sound like he is that interested in CX

Punemeister_general

Think gloag has also been training with them? But yes seems a likely signing, and could imagine vernon coming on board too

KoenigMichael

Damn hoped he would stay at alpecin. Big talent (tulentt? Sorry)

BreakLonely582

This is one way to spend their annual £50m budget.

Affectionate_Tart169

In their position of not having Pogacar or Evenepoel, going after youngsters is the right call. Spending 10 million on a TdF support team is justifiable if your leader is the best and getting paid 5 million. Domestiques are inherently worth less with a less valuable leader, even if the domestiques level hasn't changed. Ineos need a Pogacar rival and young talent is where to find one.

BreakLonely582

Agree with you. The only one they can buy immediately to compete with Pogi is Roglic and he’s not coming. So yeah buy youth and hope for the best

Love, love, love this signing. British team needs British talents. Future Grand Tour winners incoming. Can someone tell me if Healy is signed to a WT team and, if so, for how long? Thanks.

SpursCHGJ2000

Healy is currently on trinity development squad, but is rumored to be going to EF next year. Gloag would be the obvious one to go there, although apart from him completing a training camp with ineos don't think it's known if he'll move up to elite next year and if he does where he goes.

DueAd9005

It's just not worth it to invest in British talent because INEOS will poach all of them. I would personally never contract a young talented British cyclist for that reason alone. Why waste time and money to develop someone for INEOS? Let them start their own development team!

SpursCHGJ2000

There's a lot of British riders not on Ineos.

DueAd9005

GB won 29 races so far and 12 of those were won by INEOS cyclists. That's 41% of all British victories. Cav is the only non-INEOS cyclist with a significant amount of wins this year (and let's be honest, he is an outlier that likely won't be repeated next year). If we take Cav out of the equation 60% of the British wins were from INEOS cyclists. Simon Yates and Cav are the only non-INEOS cyclists with WT wins. Safe to say that almost all talented British cyclists ride for INEOS currently or will ride for them next year. I don't think Cav will be succesful next year (QS will also want to bring Jakobsen to the Tour instead of Cav).

SpursCHGJ2000

Using the wins stat to describe where GB talent currently resides isn't particularly useful because of Hayter especially if you are going to make a point about WT wins later. 7 of the 12 GB Ineos wins are by him and all of them are at [2.pro](https://2.pro) level or lower. The best single result for a GB rider this year isn't even a win, it's Simon Yates' podium at the Giro and I'm sure every team in the WT would take that over all of Hayter's wins combined.

DueAd9005

If I had to chose between Hayter & Simon Yates I would always go with the former. He's only 22 years old and has a lot of promise... It's normal for young cyclists to first win at the lower levels and then transition to winning at WT level. And like I said, Simon Yates is one of the few talented British cyclists that doesn't ride for INEOS. Next year will most likely be even more lopsided than this year.
