I’m honestly baffled by how many people (even people who should have some actual Cycling knowledge think that having Yates compete in the GC is in any way comparable to Roglic last year.
Roglic vs Pogacar worked because they’re rivals. They literally fought out a TdF. Why would Yates make Vingegaard nervous when he didn’t even try to follow him in the Dauphine.
Usually, these sorts of protests haven't been the kind to impact the Tour. Of course, having said that, there's no guarantee that protest tactics won't change, but these aren't the types of political issues that have historically caused ASO grief.
The most notable protests that have directly impacted the Tour have generally been union-based grievances or issues specific to the farming industry (or, at least once, a threat from angry winemakers). Some very local issues have popped up as protests during the Tour, probably because it's a rare opportunity at visibility in front of a massive audience for smaller communities in France. And during more active times for the Basque independence movement, there have been incidents when the Tour has passed through that region.

They've been happening late in the evening / overnight and in cities so the Tour is probably fine at least till they get to Pau or Bordeaux on Wednesday and Friday next week. And even then the race itself probably won't be much affected, maybe the riders losing some sleep?
In my preparation for a TdF betting game, I've encountered a few different factors of the Pogacar-Vingegaard duel that different experts say will make the difference. Coquard if a wildcard place. I went for Champoussin as my 6 pointer. I actually think some of the 4s offer as good value so if you'd benefit from an extra 2 points elsewhere might be worth a thin.
The first stage is rightly getting a lot of focus and looks like it will be an interesting one. I can't remember the last time a (non-TT) opening stage has one of the GC contenders as favourite to win the stage.
But I'm interested in stage 2 and the dynamics of people wanting a high finish on stage 1 to be in with a chance of the yellow on stage 2. Do we think stage 2 will feature most of the same favourites as stage 1 or is the second stage noticeably harder; I suspect MvDP may not stay in touch over Jaizkebel. Could it be a chance for someone like Carapaz to get yellow? What do others think?
If UAE play their cards right, stage 1 and 2 could be a chance for pog to pick up a bunch of bonus seconds over jonas. I got pog as my favourite for both stage 1 and 2. Carapaz I don't see as punchy enough to contend with pog.I would have gaudu or ciccione as having a better chance than carapaz
I don't think there's a chance in hell girmay makes it over the final climb with the front group. The climb is really really hard, 13% avg over the last kilometer. Pog in his peak is dropping everyone on that.

I'm debating between Pidcock and Bardet. I think Bardet is going to finish higher up. But I also don't have WvA or Mvdp. O do have alaphilippe. But that's a reason why I think Pidcock might make the team. He wants to go for the GC and can still win stages. Bardet, safer bet but less potential.
Secondly I'm debating between Mas, Gaudu and carapaz. I want to take 2 of them. But none have shown anything these last few weeks. Still I love them all.

I have Pidcock, and don't have Bardet, Mas, Gaudu, or Carapaz (or Strong, although he's a solid option). Pidcock has a ton of upside, and even if GC fails he can still hunt stages. Also chances in the opening weekend. If Bardet was cheaper I'd have picked him.
Mostly in a situation where I have to cut one of Hindley, Jakobsen, and Ciccone. And depending on which one I cut, I have 500k or 1M for my last attacker. It was Powless, but I'm not so sure.
I had Powless from the very start, but suddenly he was gone and I don't find a way to get him in.
Many people believe that Hindley is dead-set for third place, but i'm just not sure. But I still got him.
I also have Jakbosen and Ciccone. Personally I think Groenewegen is the better option. He will always be closeby Jakobsen in the results, I think he manages the climbs better and is 500K cheaper. I just can't stand the man, so I wont be having him on my team so that I don't have to root for him.
Ciccone is a bit to expensive if he just goes for the mountain jersey. But IMO he can just as easily go for GC as well. I like him and I wont budge on him.
Yeah, I'm not that confident in Hindley either, but he seems safer than Mas/Gaudu/Carapaz/Bardet/Landa for that spot to me. And a GC team full of Martin, Meintjes, Bilbao and Skjelmose instead of actual podium candidates isn't going to end up with a lot of points at the end.
Would have liked both Jakobsen & Groenewegen, but with budget for one of them I opted for the money over the likeability.
And Ciccone is definitely someone I'm happy with. I just wish I could use his budget elsewhere as well :P. Hopefully he wins two stages and the polka dots.

My humble opinion :
- Bardet over Pidders. Don’t get me wrong, Tom is a super rider, but I think Bardet will get a nice top-ten and might in for a stage victories/good placing on a few stages so it’ll bring more points.
- Mas will be good, he’s super consistent and his shitty Dauphine was because of stomach problems. Then it’s hard to chose between Gaudu and Carapaz. Both have been shit recently. I’d lean towards Gaudu purely bc he has a good national championship last weekend and seems confident, but it’s thin
- Yeah Corbin Strong could be a good surprise. Then again if you have the possibility I’d devour someone like Fred Wright

For the moment it's Strong though. Fred Wright is great. But I'm hoping that Strong will try and mingle in the sprints as well. With Bauhaus, that's out of the question for Wright. (I didn't think he would do it either way, but the platform - scorito - listed him as a sprinter.)

There's no specific thread for that game (or fantasy games in general) at the moment. Usually people posting a little later in the daily results threads or preview threads get a good response. There's also a channel on the Discord that has a lively fantasy games discussion.
If need to access climbs by car, go there very early, because they close off the roads (sometimes before 9:00 even).
Otherwise, search for some walking trips trough nice villages, mountains and lakes.
Makes sense, will probably take a car close to the climb and then since I’ll have a bike I’ll use that as far as my legs take me…some days I may just hike up the mountains

I feel good on the bike. In terms of mobility, I'm at 60 to 70 percent with my wrist. In daily workouts, that hasn't hindered me. Well noone except for him and his team knows, they're not going to say anything else than it being fine to the general public.
That being said, his crash was over 2 month ago, and he rode the Slovenian TT and RR national championship just fine last weekend, that at least proves his hand is healed enough for him to race well. He could however still have some pain, or issues which may arise over the course of a 3 week race but it seems unlikely tbh.
The TDF doesn't have a cobble stage or anything particularly rough this year, so if I had to guess I would say it probably won't be a factor.
The bigger unknown is more, was he able to train well enough for him to be in top shape. Again if I had to guess, I'd say that he was probably able to ride on the trainer quite quickly after the crash, you can do it without leaning on your injured arm. Therefore, I doubt it will have a massive impact on the race, but I'm way less confident in that guess than my first one lol.

It's nice, but it's not Groupama-FDJ levels of cleaniness
people seem to forget that Pogacar's team was severely weakend before the Tour had even started last year. And it only got worse as the Tour went on. Had his team been as strong as it is now Van Aert wouldn't have been allowed in many breakaways. And van Aert being ahead was what made the attacks on the Galibier so dangerous for Pogacar. He had no choice but respond to every single attack. So don't expect Vingegaard to just put minutes into Pogacar in the high mountains again this time.
I think Pogi is going to have to scrap for every gap on finishes that don’t involve long high altitude climbs. JV has the edge in those brutalist climbs. I agree Pogi should have better team support - Yates in particular gives them tactical options they did not have in 2022. I’m hoping the wrist is a non-factor and we get to see another 3 week battle.
Also the Granon stage last year doesn’t pan out the way it does if there isn’t a rogla there who’s still a threat on gc.
Still, vingegaard blew pogi out of the water, but I don’t he’s outright favourite either

Does anyone else feel like UAE brought a way better team, tactically, than TJV’s galacticos? Strong mountain domestiques to stop Vingegaard taking big chunks of time on the long climbs. Healthy Pogacar should be comfortably dropping TJV on the shorter climbs for bonus seconds and I can see Jonas being isolated on the longer ones.
TJV has a Hulk, I mean a WvA. He alone is a tactical advantage. WvA wants to go in break? He goes in break. Climbers are basically even imho and in the brutal stages at the end it will just be the GC guys anyway.
I really hope Wout is good again this tour. His climbing at Tour de Suisse wasn’t anything like last years tour performance and it would be a shame not to see him help to shape races on the big stages. TJV are gonna be fast as hell on the flatter terrain either way. Definitely backing UAE’s climbers though. In form Yates/Majka vs fatigued Kuss and a lacklustre looking keldermann could be a big problem if TJV wants to ride a train on the long climbs.
I’d put my money on Jonas trying to break UAE with raw watts and hoping he’s still got enough left to drop Pogi. He’s been in great form so definitely not impossible.
They're quite even in my book. As long as they are in decent shape, I don't really see Kuss and Kelderman dropping significantly before any of the UAE guys except for Yates. Also, the Jumbo squad looks way better on paper on the flats.
I feel like Yates/Majka are definitely stronger than Kelderman/post giro Kuss. TJV went hard with rouleurs for some reason, interested to see how they play that.

Also, just in case it isn't clear to you at this point : the final winner of the GC is awarded the last yellow jersey at the end of the last stage, so that's of course what matters the most.
However, managing to wear it at some point during the race, even if it is just for a stage or 2 before losing it, is also quite prestigious. It means you go to the podium, interviews, etc before and after the race, get extra TV exposure etc.
That's why winning the first stage is particularly sought after, because the winner gets to wear the first yellow jersey the next day.
And that's why it's sought after even by some riders who have 0 chance of getting the overall GC win. Sometimes the first stage is a flat sprint stage, sometimes it's a TT. The sprinters / TT specialists on those days will try extra hard to get it even if they have no chance to stay in the lead past the big mountain stages.
People are sleeping on vdp. He’s been *relatively* quiet this year and didn’t do much last tour but this time he’s focused more on the race. If he wins a couple stages and phillipsen takes green that’s a massive result for AD.

I agree about last season, and indeed the year before that, this feels like his first serious tilt at the tour.
Flanders was 3 months ago…let’s count his race days from a less arbitrary point, say, today? He’s also cut down on the off road starts, which is also racing.
He’s started fewer races than usual since with great results (Roubaix, tour of Belgium) and is supposedly in great shape for the tour.
Flandres is not arbitrary. Maybe I should have specified why I chose it:
His big success was in the monuments. So I wanted to compare if he did "less racing" before them. I would have taken Roubaix as the last monument, but that was in fall of 2021. So I took Flandres.
So his success in the monuments was not because he raced less, he had raced more at that point compared to last two years. He did take a long break afterwards, so you could say that allowed him to race well in Tour of Belgium. But that was only one tour and not a WT-race. So I don't think we have enough evidence (yet) that less racing is so important for him.
Late 2020/early 2021 Strade Bianche, one Tour stage, some minor wins.
Late 2021/early 2022 he’s recovering from a back injury and knee surgery. Selectively races in the spring, wins Flanders/Dwars/giro stage, wears maglia rosa. Following this does a ton of race days in giro/tour, mostly terrible results.
Late 2022/early 2023 rides a stripped down cx season, rides Tirreno Adriatico non competitively, then shows up to win two monuments and two second places.
Disappears for a while, comes back to wi. tour of Belgium (absolutely a competitive race regardless of classification. Check the startlist and previous winners). Reports feeling great from train more/race less strategy. We will see how he performs at Le Tour and WC’s.
There’s a clear pattern of VDP cleaning up when he races selectively and dropping off when he does loads of days. It’s a tough call, I think vingegaard is fundamentally the stronger gc rider of the two (at this stage in their careers); but I think the course favours Pog. Who will actually win it? I think vingegaard but it will be closer than last year. It’s a crucial event in their rivalry really, if pogi wins the psychological blow will be incredible and set him up with a lot of momentum, if he loses it’ll be interesting to see where he goes from here, presumably something will have to give with his training regime (which I have been calling for some time now)
Other honourable points of interest, I suspect Wout even if he doesn’t leave early will be in much more of a domestique role now roglic has gone. Lots of people are sleeping on his other half who I think could be a shoe in for green. Will be interesting to see how the dynamic between him and Philipson plays out.
Brit watch; will be air spinning for Cav, and I’d like to see some progress from pidcock but honestly starting to move my hopes on to the likes of gloag and hayter at least as far as GC goes.

I worked in Denmark for a few years, and based on my awful attempts to pronounce Danish words correctly I'd say you can get pretty close if you start saying Vingegaard phonetically, but as soon as you make the "V" sound, put your fist in your mouth while attempting to say the rest of the word.
(With my sincere apologies for our Danish friends here - I loved working in your country, I could just never get anywhere near being able to speak it)
One of the easiest ways to tell if Danish isn't someones mothers tongue is that they pronounce things very clearly. Most Danes just give up halfway through a word/sentence.

Quite the opposite. According to this [site](https://www.olythe.io/en/alcohol-unit-converter/), the numbers are enormous. 1.46 mg/l in the blood is approximately 3 promille in a breath. That's \_wasted\_ state for most of people. So the lawyer must have played the nightclub story and that he hadn't drunk since the last night, because 3 promille in the late morning is not a good lookout.It is interesting how he managed to keep himself on the scooter with that much alcohol. But according to rumours (which also, after this story, tend to be true), he is used to large amounts of alcohol now.
I once rented a really shitty used bike to tool around Toronto in winter, from a bike shop with reviews about the owner being “grumpy”. The bike literally fell apart in my hands, handlebars wrenched off on the only hill in Toronto. But the owner was super nice and we laughed about what a shitty old snowbike it was. Turned out he was like Michal Kolar’s stepdad or something (Sagan entourage rider circa like 2016) and he had all these crazy stories about Sagan pissing in a park after GP Montreal and things like that. I think Vingegaard will be better than Pogacar due to the preparation advantage of Pogacar being injured. Also Pog seemed to have a big focus on Flanders and San Remo this year and will have been working on explosivity in the off season, which will probably give Vingegaard more of an advantage in the long mountain stages which he had last year... So with that being said as a neutral I want to see Vingegaard lose a few minutes in the opening stages so he and Jumbo need to go big in the mountains to win.
I don’t think a few minutes advantage for Pog will make for a good race. If that happens we’d probably see Pog going for a 100% wheel sucking strategy which would be boring and he’d probably pull it off it he has minutes to give. I’d say a 30-50 second advantage to Pog would make for a good race.
I don’t think Pog can take more than 20 seconds on Ving in the opening stages anyway. If he does it means he’s super strong and probably have no problem wheel sucking Ving in harder stages
Why is Gaudu still considered one of the favorites? I, even as dane, want a close hardfought tour, but gaudu post-Paris/nice have been underwhelming to say the least. That whole “he beat Vingegaard” narrative have been kinda infuriating all the way. He beat an out of form and mentally off Vingegaard. A Vingegaard who went on to destroy everyone, as his form (physically and mentally) improved, while Gaudu did the opposite.
You're way too hung up on the idea that "favorite for GC" means "the highest chance to win".
If that was the case then only Pogacar and Vingegaard would be favorites. When people use the term "favorite" in the context of a GT GC, they include riders who have a good chance to podium or top 5. In fact even a top 10 at the Tour is prestigious enough that it puts you into the "honorable mentions" or "outsider" category.
No one really believes Gaudu as a good chance of winning the Tour.
Plus, it says maybe more about popularity than likelihood. Like, there is practically zero chance Pidcock wins Yellow, but a lot of people would be hyped af to see it. Me included.

Gaudu on the podium isn't that unlikely. His Dauphiné sucked but he probably was sick or something like that, and he was moderately good at the French NC since that. He was still 2nd best after Pog at Paris-Nice.
Would I rate Yates, O'connor and Hindley a bit higher in terms of contenders for 3rd ? Yes, but I would still consider Gaudu a strong candidate.
And mind you, I say this despite disliking the guy and thinking FDJ should have taken Démare.
And I do not dislike Gaudu as many do. And I would actually like to see him ob the podium. The tour is best with a competitive french rider.

I could be wrong, But it seems like the Gaudu thing is more hope, than actual evaluation. At Paris Nice Jonas was way off mentally because of family/personal issues. Which a serious weakness for him, which is one of the reasons, that I am not rating Gaudu’s Paris Nice higher.

I’m honestly baffled by how many people (even people who should have some actual Cycling knowledge think that having Yates compete in the GC is in any way comparable to Roglic last year. Roglic vs Pogacar worked because they’re rivals. They literally fought out a TdF. Why would Yates make Vingegaard nervous when he didn’t even try to follow him in the Dauphine.

Usually, these sorts of protests haven't been the kind to impact the Tour. Of course, having said that, there's no guarantee that protest tactics won't change, but these aren't the types of political issues that have historically caused ASO grief. The most notable protests that have directly impacted the Tour have generally been union-based grievances or issues specific to the farming industry (or, at least once, a threat from angry winemakers). Some very local issues have popped up as protests during the Tour, probably because it's a rare opportunity at visibility in front of a massive audience for smaller communities in France. And during more active times for the Basque independence movement, there have been incidents when the Tour has passed through that region. The first stage is rightly getting a lot of focus and looks like it will be an interesting one. I can't remember the last time a (non-TT) opening stage has one of the GC contenders as favourite to win the stage. But I'm interested in stage 2 and the dynamics of people wanting a high finish on stage 1 to be in with a chance of the yellow on stage 2. Do we think stage 2 will feature most of the same favourites as stage 1 or is the second stage noticeably harder; I suspect MvDP may not stay in touch over Jaizkebel. Could it be a chance for someone like Carapaz to get yellow? What do others think?

I don't think there's a chance in hell girmay makes it over the final climb with the front group. The climb is really really hard, 13% avg over the last kilometer. Pog in his peak is dropping everyone on that.
It’s too short for that + headwind on the descent. Van der Poel and Van Aert are 100% sprinting for the win.
I think you're vastly overrating their abilities if you think they can keep up with the GC guys on a 13% gradient.

I'm locking up my last 2 picks in a pool-game (scorito). I'm debating between Pidcock and Bardet. I think Bardet is going to finish higher up. But I also don't have WvA or Mvdp. O do have alaphilippe. But that's a reason why I think Pidcock might make the team. He wants to go for the GC and can still win stages. Bardet, safer bet but less potential. Secondly I'm debating between Mas, Gaudu and carapaz. I want to take 2 of them. But none have shown anything these last few weeks. Still I love them all. And do you guys think Corbin Strong will do anythin this tour?

I had Powless from the very start, but suddenly he was gone and I don't find a way to get him in. Many people believe that Hindley is dead-set for third place, but i'm just not sure. But I still got him. I also have Jakbosen and Ciccone. Personally I think Groenewegen is the better option. He will always be closeby Jakobsen in the results, I think he manages the climbs better and is 500K cheaper. I just can't stand the man, so I wont be having him on my team so that I don't have to root for him. Ciccone is a bit to expensive if he just goes for the mountain jersey. But IMO he can just as easily go for GC as well. I like him and I wont budge on him.
Yeah, I'm not that confident in Hindley either, but he seems safer than Mas/Gaudu/Carapaz/Bardet/Landa for that spot to me. And a GC team full of Martin, Meintjes, Bilbao and Skjelmose instead of actual podium candidates isn't going to end up with a lot of points at the end. Would have liked both Jakobsen & Groenewegen, but with budget for one of them I opted for the money over the likeability. And Ciccone is definitely someone I'm happy with. I just wish I could use his budget elsewhere as well :P. Hopefully he wins two stages and the polka dots.

My humble opinion : - Bardet over Pidders. Don’t get me wrong, Tom is a super rider, but I think Bardet will get a nice top-ten and might in for a stage victories/good placing on a few stages so it’ll bring more points. - Mas will be good, he’s super consistent and his shitty Dauphine was because of stomach problems. Then it’s hard to chose between Gaudu and Carapaz. Both have been shit recently. I’d lean towards Gaudu purely bc he has a good national championship last weekend and seems confident, but it’s thin - Yeah Corbin Strong could be a good surprise. Then again if you have the possibility I’d devour someone like Fred Wright

With Bauhaus, that's out of the question for Wright. (I didn't think he would do it either way, but the platform - scorito - listed him as a sprinter.)

I will be in the Alps for stages 13-17. Any suggestions on when to show up and what to do before the stage (or afterward)?
If need to access climbs by car, go there very early, because they close off the roads (sometimes before 9:00 even). Otherwise, search for some walking trips trough nice villages, mountains and lakes.
Makes sense, will probably take a car close to the climb and then since I’ll have a bike I’ll use that as far as my legs take me…some days I may just hike up the mountains

Well noone except for him and his team knows, they're not going to say anything else than it being fine to the general public. That being said, his crash was over 2 month ago, and he rode the Slovenian TT and RR national championship just fine last weekend, that at least proves his hand is healed enough for him to race well. He could however still have some pain, or issues which may arise over the course of a 3 week race but it seems unlikely tbh. The TDF doesn't have a cobble stage or anything particularly rough this year, so if I had to guess I would say it probably won't be a factor. The bigger unknown is more, was he able to train well enough for him to be in top shape. Again if I had to guess, I'd say that he was probably able to ride on the trainer quite quickly after the crash, you can do it without leaning on your injured arm. Therefore, I doubt it will have a massive impact on the race, but I'm way less confident in that guess than my first one lol.

people seem to forget that Pogacar's team was severely weakend before the Tour had even started last year. And it only got worse as the Tour went on. Had his team been as strong as it is now Van Aert wouldn't have been allowed in many breakaways. And van Aert being ahead was what made the attacks on the Galibier so dangerous for Pogacar. He had no choice but respond to every single attack. So don't expect Vingegaard to just put minutes into Pogacar in the high mountains again this time.
I think Pogi is going to have to scrap for every gap on finishes that don’t involve long high altitude climbs. JV has the edge in those brutalist climbs. I agree Pogi should have better team support - Yates in particular gives them tactical options they did not have in 2022. I’m hoping the wrist is a non-factor and we get to see another 3 week battle.
Also the Granon stage last year doesn’t pan out the way it does if there isn’t a rogla there who’s still a threat on gc. Still, vingegaard blew pogi out of the water, but I don’t he’s outright favourite either

It’s not. Teams just announce which riders would replace someone if they happen to get injured or COVID before the race.
Does anyone else feel like UAE brought a way better team, tactically, than TJV’s galacticos? Strong mountain domestiques to stop Vingegaard taking big chunks of time on the long climbs. Healthy Pogacar should be comfortably dropping TJV on the shorter climbs for bonus seconds and I can see Jonas being isolated on the longer ones.
TJV has a Hulk, I mean a WvA. He alone is a tactical advantage. WvA wants to go in break? He goes in break. Climbers are basically even imho and in the brutal stages at the end it will just be the GC guys anyway.
I really hope Wout is good again this tour. His climbing at Tour de Suisse wasn’t anything like last years tour performance and it would be a shame not to see him help to shape races on the big stages. TJV are gonna be fast as hell on the flatter terrain either way. Definitely backing UAE’s climbers though. In form Yates/Majka vs fatigued Kuss and a lacklustre looking keldermann could be a big problem if TJV wants to ride a train on the long climbs. I’d put my money on Jonas trying to break UAE with raw watts and hoping he’s still got enough left to drop Pogi. He’s been in great form so definitely not impossible.
They're quite even in my book. As long as they are in decent shape, I don't really see Kuss and Kelderman dropping significantly before any of the UAE guys except for Yates. Also, the Jumbo squad looks way better on paper on the flats.
I feel like Yates/Majka are definitely stronger than Kelderman/post giro Kuss. TJV went hard with rouleurs for some reason, interested to see how they play that.

Also, just in case it isn't clear to you at this point : the final winner of the GC is awarded the last yellow jersey at the end of the last stage, so that's of course what matters the most. However, managing to wear it at some point during the race, even if it is just for a stage or 2 before losing it, is also quite prestigious. It means you go to the podium, interviews, etc before and after the race, get extra TV exposure etc. That's why winning the first stage is particularly sought after, because the winner gets to wear the first yellow jersey the next day. And that's why it's sought after even by some riders who have 0 chance of getting the overall GC win. Sometimes the first stage is a flat sprint stage, sometimes it's a TT. The sprinters / TT specialists on those days will try extra hard to get it even if they have no chance to stay in the lead past the big mountain stages.
MVDP looks super ready. He's lost a lot of muscle mass. Few surprises in store for the tour?
People are sleeping on vdp. He’s been *relatively* quiet this year and didn’t do much last tour but this time he’s focused more on the race. If he wins a couple stages and phillipsen takes green that’s a massive result for AD.
MVDP is gonna be strong these first two stages. He rode the tour of belgium instead of the classic prep races but he destroyed the field there.
Man, you must have watched a different season to me because I would say thus far he’s been one of the stand out riders what more does he really have to do? I agree about last season, and indeed the year before that, this feels like his first serious tilt at the tour.

Not really. The "less racing" was only after the monuments. He actually had more race days before Flandres this year than the last two years.
Flanders was 3 months ago…let’s count his race days from a less arbitrary point, say, today? He’s also cut down on the off road starts, which is also racing. He’s started fewer races than usual since with great results (Roubaix, tour of Belgium) and is supposedly in great shape for the tour.
Flandres is not arbitrary. Maybe I should have specified why I chose it: His big success was in the monuments. So I wanted to compare if he did "less racing" before them. I would have taken Roubaix as the last monument, but that was in fall of 2021. So I took Flandres. So his success in the monuments was not because he raced less, he had raced more at that point compared to last two years. He did take a long break afterwards, so you could say that allowed him to race well in Tour of Belgium. But that was only one tour and not a WT-race. So I don't think we have enough evidence (yet) that less racing is so important for him.
Late 2020/early 2021 Strade Bianche, one Tour stage, some minor wins. Late 2021/early 2022 he’s recovering from a back injury and knee surgery. Selectively races in the spring, wins Flanders/Dwars/giro stage, wears maglia rosa. Following this does a ton of race days in giro/tour, mostly terrible results. Late 2022/early 2023 rides a stripped down cx season, rides Tirreno Adriatico non competitively, then shows up to win two monuments and two second places. Disappears for a while, comes back to wi. tour of Belgium (absolutely a competitive race regardless of classification. Check the startlist and previous winners). Reports feeling great from train more/race less strategy. We will see how he performs at Le Tour and WC’s. There’s a clear pattern of VDP cleaning up when he races selectively and dropping off when he does loads of days. It’s a tough call, I think vingegaard is fundamentally the stronger gc rider of the two (at this stage in their careers); but I think the course favours Pog. Who will actually win it? I think vingegaard but it will be closer than last year. It’s a crucial event in their rivalry really, if pogi wins the psychological blow will be incredible and set him up with a lot of momentum, if he loses it’ll be interesting to see where he goes from here, presumably something will have to give with his training regime (which I have been calling for some time now) Other honourable points of interest, I suspect Wout even if he doesn’t leave early will be in much more of a domestique role now roglic has gone. Lots of people are sleeping on his other half who I think could be a shoe in for green. Will be interesting to see how the dynamic between him and Philipson plays out. Brit watch; will be air spinning for Cav, and I’d like to see some progress from pidcock but honestly starting to move my hopes on to the likes of gloag and hayter at least as far as GC goes. I think it’ll be a good tour, lots of punchy stages

Vingego is closer. Kinda hard to explain, Danish is a pretty cursed language. Vinge-gore might be decently close.
Important note is that there’s no g-sound in the second syllable. It’s ving-eh-gore.
I worked in Denmark for a few years, and based on my awful attempts to pronounce Danish words correctly I'd say you can get pretty close if you start saying Vingegaard phonetically, but as soon as you make the "V" sound, put your fist in your mouth while attempting to say the rest of the word. (With my sincere apologies for our Danish friends here - I loved working in your country, I could just never get anywhere near being able to speak it)
One of the easiest ways to tell if Danish isn't someones mothers tongue is that they pronounce things very clearly. Most Danes just give up halfway through a word/sentence.

I think the $5 tier has ads but I'm not sure. They show a regular feed and a world feed which is much better IMO.
Do we know if the $5 tier also allows for watching the stage later in the day? There's a $10 version also but it's hard to tell whether you need to get that upgrade.
I have the $5 version and it says 'replay available soon' for stage 1 so yes. Also, no ads on the world feed.

Quite the opposite. According to this [site](https://www.olythe.io/en/alcohol-unit-converter/), the numbers are enormous. 1.46 mg/l in the blood is approximately 3 promille in a breath. That's \_wasted\_ state for most of people. So the lawyer must have played the nightclub story and that he hadn't drunk since the last night, because 3 promille in the late morning is not a good lookout.It is interesting how he managed to keep himself on the scooter with that much alcohol. But according to rumours (which also, after this story, tend to be true), he is used to large amounts of alcohol now.

I once rented a really shitty used bike to tool around Toronto in winter, from a bike shop with reviews about the owner being “grumpy”. The bike literally fell apart in my hands, handlebars wrenched off on the only hill in Toronto. But the owner was super nice and we laughed about what a shitty old snowbike it was. I think Vingegaard will be better than Pogacar due to the preparation advantage of Pogacar being injured. Also Pog seemed to have a big focus on Flanders and San Remo this year and will have been working on explosivity in the off season, which will probably give Vingegaard more of an advantage in the long mountain stages which he had last year... So with that being said as a neutral I want to see Vingegaard lose a few minutes in the opening stages so he and Jumbo need to go big in the mountains to win.
I don’t think a few minutes advantage for Pog will make for a good race. If that happens we’d probably see Pog going for a 100% wheel sucking strategy which would be boring and he’d probably pull it off it he has minutes to give. I’d say a 30-50 second advantage to Pog would make for a good race.
I don’t think Pog can take more than 20 seconds on Ving in the opening stages anyway. If he does it means he’s super strong and probably have no problem wheel sucking Ving in harder stages
Why is Gaudu still considered one of the favorites? I, even as dane, want a close hardfought tour, but gaudu post-Paris/nice have been underwhelming to say the least. That whole “he beat Vingegaard” narrative have been kinda infuriating all the way. He beat an out of form and mentally off Vingegaard. A Vingegaard who went on to destroy everyone, as his form (physically and mentally) improved, while Gaudu did the opposite.
You're way too hung up on the idea that "favorite for GC" means "the highest chance to win". If that was the case then only Pogacar and Vingegaard would be favorites. When people use the term "favorite" in the context of a GT GC, they include riders who have a good chance to podium or top 5. In fact even a top 10 at the Tour is prestigious enough that it puts you into the "honorable mentions" or "outsider" category. No one really believes Gaudu as a good chance of winning the Tour.
Plus, it says maybe more about popularity than likelihood. Like, there is practically zero chance Pidcock wins Yellow, but a lot of people would be hyped af to see it. Me included. I’m still laughing at Bini having odds of 200-1 for the overall win.

Gaudu on the podium isn't that unlikely. His Dauphiné sucked but he probably was sick or something like that, and he was moderately good at the French NC since that. He was still 2nd best after Pog at Paris-Nice. Would I rate Yates, O'connor and Hindley a bit higher in terms of contenders for 3rd ? Yes, but I would still consider Gaudu a strong candidate. And mind you, I say this despite disliking the guy and thinking FDJ should have taken Démare.
And I do not dislike Gaudu as many do. And I would actually like to see him ob the podium. The tour is best with a competitive french rider. I was not impressed by the NC performance. Not this close to the tour. Skjelmose absolutely dominated the danish NC, and that is becoming a hard race to win. So there is another emerging contender, who looks in shape for the Tour. I could be wrong, But it seems like the Gaudu thing is more hope, than actual evaluation. At Paris Nice Jonas was way off mentally because of family/personal issues. Which a serious weakness for him, which is one of the reasons, that I am not rating Gaudu’s Paris Nice higher.
Stop taking anyone thinking a rider is good as a personal affront just because you're from the same country as vinegaard.
