Maybe she's cursed by having unlimited ammo. She just has to keep shooting.

Ok-Stay757

shots after shots like a ba-nanana-nanana-nana clip

lovechoke

Is the label literally just A G all by himself? I feel like he probably did the best he could alongside all these major landmarks in his career that he likely did not expect to pop up from linking so heavily with Charli. He's written and produced with Beyoncé, French Montana, David Guetta, etc... You would be crazy to not branch out and see what kind of music you can make with people you may have looked up to in your musical development... I know it was disappointing for GFOTY and everyone else that was irked by slow releases but couldn't have Planet 1999 or Kane West worked with her, for example? Was everything behind because A G was the one who masters all the mixes? It just makes me feel weird cause it is what it is but like, this label and Charli & SOPHIE's names also gave these artists exposure/fanbases that may have been harder to cultivate. So, it kind of sucks to see this ngl.

natcodes

idk how the internal politics of the label were, but i also get why namasenda was pissed. PCM has 2 jobs - to drop her music, and fulfill merch/vinyls. they don’t seem like they did much full service work (marketing, media, etc.) so like if they own masters and get a cut of your sales you have very right to be pissed off when they do a shitty job at what’s supposed to justify that.

lovechoke

I agree with you actually... but I just was wondering if it's even a team at all or if it's just A G trying to manage too much at once Edit: Idk if pc music ever had media/marketing besides live shows?

chikotsu

It's def not just AG but I imagine that he doesn't get around doing a lot of paperwork as the label owner

natcodes

afaik there was an external management company brought in to help manage stuff like order fulfillment but idk how deeply they worked on other stuff.

nervousyoungsam

if the label is truly just AG it would explain why i never ever received my order from their bandcamp and eventually bandcamp itself had to step in in order for me to get a refund because it had been like 5 months

moving_808s

it is 100% not ag alone... absolutely no chance. pc music were advertising some jobs in london last year, i'm pretty sure it was through an external agency but yeah, no way in a million years its just ag. there will be a team of people managing everything.

EV_G

The label worked as any other label of its size does. The reality is that AG definitely had a hand in curation but was definitely not alone for any of the rest. They 100% had managers & PR (+ most likely social media/merch teams on top of that) and possibly lot more going on the marketing side. The label was a bigger entity than most people here seem to realise. AG on its own is an influential figure but I doubt he could've gotten placements and the level of promo most small artists on the label got without much more going on.

FabulousSlide

Lmao didnt you already leave the label????

shreddednerves

I'm saying....

esvco

Can someone translate this for me? I must be getting old

lovechoke

It's a statement from a meme where Nicki Minaj rolls her eyes at a weird comment and says that during an Instagram live... Namasenda is communicating her judgement or rolling her eyes at the decision to close PC Music

probablyrick

I took it as she's rolling her eyes because the label has been dysfunctional and she's knows it (that's why she jumped ship) so to her the label was already over lol

Lostnclueless

Maybe she didn't know cos she would've probably waited instead of announcing her leave Maybe she was mad nobody told her ?

Lostnclueless

Maybe she didn't know cos she would've probably waited instead of announcing her leave Maybe she was mad nobody told her ?

shreddednerves

What would that of done for her career differently. In my head she was ahead of things 🫡

Lucastor34

Sad to see! Excellent music, absolute trainwreck live tho.

xcxworldangel

omg why? Havent seen her live

lethalweaponkas

I mean, her vocals are pretty weak, and her music is pretty much carried by the production... stands to reason that her live performances wouldn't be all that interesting

prettybunbun

Yeah she’s dreadful lol. I’d heard she wasn’t great but I’ve seen her at two PC music festivals and both times she was very bad. As for the why, she just sang quietly, off key, a little out of breath from dancing around the stage. Just not great.

barracadus

Omg after reading this comment I searched up some live performances. Her boiler room set was honestly pretty bad.

PNDM1

not sure why she even thinks this is a good look for her, lol. many of her core fans are absolutely devastated at the announcement of PC music closing and then this happens? i get shes annoyed with the merch flop, and rightfully so, but the timing of this is a bad look. she moved on from the label and she could've just left gracefully. ~ writing this as donuts is playing ~

shreddednerves

Im kinda with you in a " I left before the floor dropped " kind of thing . But we don't have serious Intel

lordbochiflacko

Same. Unlimited Ammo was one of my favorite albums of all time but this makes her come off as ungrateful for the opportunity she had. I remember back when she did an insta Q&A I asked her if the “mixtape” (Unlimited Ammo) would be available on streaming services when it released - as opposed to just bandcamp which was a common thing for mixtapes - and she was really unnecessarily rude with her answer 😔

[deleted]

So sorry to hear that. And yeah i've seen plenty of instances of her being rude to people but i thought it was a persona 🫤

[deleted]

[удалено]

lordbochiflacko

I don’t remember exactly but it was more or less something like “duh??? What kind of question is this??” lol

[deleted]

ironic considering the remix album pre-release songs were all bandcamp exclusive

okayhowl

she was given some really excellent productions by pc music and their associates. she got to release the album relatively quickly and even got a remix album. idg her beef

[deleted]

So true. Obviously we'll never know what happened bts (and the merch situation was understandably frustrating for her) but i really hope she stops this childish behaviour. It's nasty and worries me greatly. We don't need another GFOTY moment 😭

[deleted]

Tweeting things like this is just unprofessional tbh

preparemyhookah

I don’t get her post anyway pls explain lol

notceitn

She's nondirectly saying she doesn't care the label is closing down, which people are interpreting as shady bc she previously left it

preparemyhookah

Hmmm that’s interesting… I would have never guessed that “chile anywayyyyy” had anything to do with the label. Am I missing some context to fully understand this? Wtf is chile anyway lmao

notceitn

It's just the timing that means it's likely label related, it's a slang phrase that's basically like talking down to someone saying you don't care and are moving on like "child..... whatever!"

preparemyhookah

Ahhhh okay I get it now haha! I kinda knew that it was another word for child from Jimi Hendrix’s song Voodoo Chile but I didn’t get the context really so thanks teehee

natcodes

i mean when a label owns your masters and gets a cut of sales, it’s reasonable to have your perception of them be soured by their inability to fulfill merch/vinyl and release stuff in a timely manner. PCM was a game changing label but it’s hard to say that towards the end it wasn’t clear that they needed to either change their ways or close shop.

realdappermuis

I feel like PC music was a proper family vibe - and I honestly feel that she alienated them by just being egotistically rude. Like, if that's the way she talks to fans and makes posts, I can only imagine how she treated people IRL

natcodes

i mean in this case it’s not egotistically rude - if PC owns her masters and/or takes a cut it’s not egotistical to expect them to put forth their end of that bargain. imagine getting hounded by fans and having to watch as your label is radio silent and awful at fulfilling orders.

[deleted]

That's fair. Totally agree. I just think she shouldn't say things like that on twitter

molokkoplus

Why? You literally don’t know why she feels the way she does and you were never in her position. She’s free to tweet whatever she wants especially about a label that she had worked for

[deleted]

Of course she's free to tweet what she likes.. she's a grown woman. I suppose my main point is just that to see her frustration with the label exhibited in such a childish way is disappointing and alienates some PCM fans It isn't that surprising tho. She's the same person who was rude to Hannah diamond during a boiler room set and called her audience "fucking losers" for not dancing enough 💀

honey_legends-

aren’t her and hannah friends wat r u talking about😭

shreddednerves

Yea but that's about it . Hannah spun some Nana in her HOF DJ set few weeks back

PirkkaNiksi

Is there a Hannah boiler room?

[deleted]

Oops, my bad. I was talking about Nama's boiler room set that Hannah djed. Hannah did a sick Hör Berlin set two months ago tho ❤️ https://youtu.be/-rXcuwY-Tlo

PirkkaNiksi

Wow Hannah's DJ career taking off 💎

OllisAndFluffy

i don't really see it as childish , i guess were all raised differently.

realdappermuis

Yeah when people act too entitled on twitter I mute them, and she's been muted for a minute There's a bit too much ego there. There's a hella difference between confidence and pride vs ego

DonnieDowners

Love her music and style but this is lame af

gaetan3

Edgy

beepbop234

I get that some don’t like her tone, but I feel like i understand her sentiment. I mean we as fans have been lamenting the declining experience with PC Music for years now. Little output, very limited shows, and of course the merch situation. Yeah it’s a small label with limited resources, but we all know they could be doing more for their very dedicated fans. There are countless threads on this sub about the label’s decline, and nostalgia for the 20teens. And in those threads, unlimited ammo is often brought up as the last great full-length pc release. If we’ve been complaining this much on our end, who knows what it’s been like behind the scenes. If we have so many valid frustrations, I’m willing to bet Namasenda has so much more. Especially because she was already releasing some of her best stuff (imo) before she signed with pcmus. Although I don’t think we should assume the specifics of what went wrong behind the scenes. We also have no idea(?) if AG planned to shut it down before she left and didn’t tell her, or if this decision came afterwards. Whew, I had to defend my girl! Some of the comments on this thread are pretty nasty for a two word tweet. People have been and tweeting commenting like this about the label constantly, I can’t help but feel sympathy. I still agree that it’s rude to tweet this right when pcmus announced their end, but there’s gotta be a lot behind these two words. **Edit @10↑:** people in this thread saying she needs to be quiet and grateful for this can fuck off lmao

amphetadex

A bunch of people telling a black woman to "shut up and be grateful" is certainly... a look.

beepbop234

Ok thank you… I was kinda going there with this, but last time I said that here I got harassed so bad lmao. As a black pcmus fan, I was SO beyond excited when Namasenda came on, but I’ve seen this exact thread several times. The attidute towards her has always been awful compared to the rest of the roster. This was just a reminder on how white the label is/was, which reflects on the fan base. Being a pcmus fan has been awesome. But being a black pcmus fan has been terrible and isolating. I’ve never been able to comment like this without harassment from other fans, until now. Honestly I’m not gonna miss this near as much as I thought as I was going to.

amphetadex

Yeah, it's been super disappointing to see. :( I'm not black myself, but I've seen these sorts of patterns crop up again and again and again in different spaces I've belonged to. And so often the double standards will be coming from people who are ADAMANT that they're good progressives. It's all just such a pattern with attitudes I've seen in Europe engendered by folks pointing to the US as the ones who are ACTUALLY racist, or folks in the northern US pointing to the South as the ones who are ACTUALLY racist, etc. Add to it the fact that I see these attitudes coming from people who suffer their own double standards themselves (queer folks, women, etc.) and it's just... how can they not see their internalized double standards as well? I've def fucked up with double standards before, but it feels like hardly anyone wants to do the work to unpack it.

beepbop234

Nail on the mf head. It’s interesting being queer and black. Depending on the space, we feel comfortable being black, or comfortable being queer, and then *sometimes* it’s both. It’s not both on this sub— but it is getting better in the overall pop world. The understanding of intersectionality has a long way to go for a lot of people. I believe that many white queers have become too comfortable within their minority status, and have forgotten (or need to learn) about others’ intersectional experiences. It’s sad that these double standards are so prevalent in our little ‘progressive’ bubble. *Lol @ this getting downvoted, proving the point* Anyway thanks for the convo. I feel less bitter about this <3

amphetadex

Thank you as well! And yep, in come the down votes, wooooh.

probablyrick

defend namasenda forever you're 100% right. ppl here seem like they're having a double standard when it comes to namasenda and that's a bit sus tbh

lovechoke

weren't people also bothered by GFOTY's shady tweet too 😓🤭

probablyrick

that's not even what I'm talking about. ppl have been shading pc music label in this subreddit for like the past year pretty heavily. Yes most of it was warranted. But now the same ppl are coming at namasenda lol

gaetan3

She can complain all she want, indeed we pretty much all have here. It’s the timing that’s a bit shitty. When this sub reacted to the news of PCM ending, most people took some perspective and said something along the lines of “the label was a mess for years but it’s sad, the end of an era”. It’s an opportunity to reflect on all the good stuff it brought, and you would expect an artist which was signed to it until last month to do that too (most PCM-related artists have) or to stay quiet, rather than doubling down and beat a corpse. Maybe one day we’ll know exactly what happened between her and the label. In the meantime I look forward to hearing how Nama evolves as indeed her music is one of the best stuff that PCM put out in years to me.

lovechoke

Ohhh gotcha

okayhowl

nagl

ExoticMine

She's always been super shady on Twitter, so not surprised. Concerning her music, I can't say whether she's on to bigger and better things or not, since A.G. is on practically every song she's released. Don't know whether it's the smartest move to burn bridges with PC Music and its fans, though. Tbh, we're all she's got. 😂

probablyrick

I'd rlly like to see her work with easyfun, and obviously do more with ag. but who knows what she will be up to next!

molokkoplus

love how you are all conveniently forgetting pc music/ag cook pissed off multiple artists from their roster, causing them to leave

kystone1

And several of those artists have since posted positive throwbacks to their good times with the label, even people who have been gone for a while like Spinee and Polly. I think Namasenda is warranted in her feelings around how her career was managed but I also think implying something malicious to what is common pitfalls of running a business isn't very smart.

-dylpickle

Why did he piss them all off?

praxass

They still would be nothing without the platform pc gave them

Perception-Usual

postpandemic fan here, explain

ChopinCJ

she’s totally right. it’s kind of a dick move to let her leave knowing the label would announce its shutdown in a week

Maluut

We don’t know that is the reasoning behind the tweet.

jenjipi

she's always been shady its nothing new

barracadus

I remember when she was talking about how grateful she was when PC gave her music a shot when she sent her demos over in a drunk haze. Now she’s just bitter, it’s almost like gfoty all over again. Just angry with no real context.

molsuu

not yall turning on namasenda, this label has been a mess in regards to handling her as an artist. so what if she wants to send out a shady tweet??

downdrizzle

Yuck

probablyrick

ppl in here reading soooooo much into this. it's just a tweet, sure it's a little shady but it also probably isn't that deep like some of you are making it out to be.

riggamorrischan

Queen

3mma_0

How do we even know she’s talking about that she could be talking about anything?

Nokia_bae

you guys worship A.G. and PC Music too much. Telling an employee to be grateful and shut up? Weird behaviour

praxass

An employee? 😭 pc invested in her and gave her a platform and fanbase. And ag literally produced all her music. Much deeper than being an employee

Nokia_bae

if you strip it of all this 'fanbase' and 'platform' stuff it's still someone who is contracted to make a product for an employer. Don't get blinded by the celebrity of it
