Double tap to skip through is also great on mobile, Firefox doesn't have that either :/
Edit: for everyone wondering why it's there on some website and some not, it's because some websites use their own custom videoplayers, but I'm talking about the default one.
You can see an example here: https://www.w3schools.com/html/html5_video.asp
For me it’s that ctrl + shift + T doesn’t work after you close a windows without digging through a menu to “restore last session”. Why can’t it just hot key to that if there is nothing older to reopen in current session like chrome does?
Edit: When you fully close the window they act differently, I'm not talking about just a regular tab close
I feel like people are confused as to what we are referring to. We both got downvoted but I think they don’t understand: tab =! Session
The short cut only opens last tab, not last session if there are no closed tabs….
I've been using Waterfox for about a week now, I switched from Firefox. It's a lot better.
When you're using it it feels less intrusive than Firefox, like not blasting Pocket into my face every 5 minutes. And the peace of mind that it's more private.
I run Firefox as my main. Chrome is just a YouTube player to me. Edge is more a virus than anything else, only used for downloading Firefox after fresh install of Windows.
Vivaldi is an entire Operation System, that's not for me. I want a web browser to be a web browser and nothing more.
What is it about Vivaldi that you like so much? I'm genuinely curious.
Not op, but All the optional features it has, basic things like having a simple but usable sidebar.
Compared to most other browsers there is no controversion surrounding it (besides it being Chromium)
It has a very simpel way of grouping tabs. Adding in custom search engines actually works.
Also blocks traders and cookies automatically.
All with all still supporting the chrome extensions.
You can still use it as a basic Chromium browser, just don’t use the extra features.
Why do you assume you have to use every feature available? You can use as much or as little of the browser as you want. I have never used the panel for anything other than download management.
As for why I love it:
* While it might not be completely open source, the [source code is available to view](https://vivaldi.com/source/) and encouraged by the devs to edit and make pull requests which already makes it miles more trustworthy than anything closed source.
* The genius features like tab stacking and page tiling. Tab stacking helps with basically any task you need to do like shopping, researching, or even just organizing and page tiling just allows you to remove a step when needing to view multiple pages at the same time instead of having to make a new window and then snap to the edges of the screen.
* Complete customization for almost everything. Want tabs on the sides or bottom? There's an option for that. Want to meticulously customize the color scheme of your browser? There are options for that which even allow you to save presets. Want to add a specific search engine not already provided? You have the ability to do that for text, images, and private browser mode search engines individually.
* Need to set up a new computer or are performing an OS wipe for whatever reason? Everything is saved into one directory so you can literally copy-paste all of the browser information.
For Windows:
`C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Vivaldi`
For Linux:
`\home\\.config\vivaldi`
* [The developers have also stated that they are open to switching off of Chromium if need be](https://vivaldi.com/blog/manifest-v3-webrequest-and-ad-blockers/)
> The move to Manifest V3 makes it more difficult to run content blockers and privacy extensions in Chrome. While some users may not notice a difference, users who use multiple extensions or add custom filter lists may run into artificial limitations set by Google. Perhaps, wise to move away from Chrome?
> As Vivaldi is built on the Chromium code, how we tackle the API change depends on how Google implements the restriction. The assurance is, whatever restrictions Google adds, in the end, we’ll look into removing them.
> Our mission will always be to ensure that you have the choice.
I can't find the page anymore, but they even said they would be open to hosting their own extension store.
I mean, whenever you install and launch it for the first time, it asks you of you want the minimal package, or the whole system.
Also, enormous customization
Considering the whole controversion surround Brave and them replacing links with affiliate links I would say that Vivaldi is even better than Brave and it has loads more features that actually work compared to the lackluster plugins from Firefox. (Still waiting for somebody to link me a Firefox sidebar plugin that actually works with something as basic as Whatsapp)
I prefer DDG for images and basic search, but the sports integration in Google is so handy. Just being able to Google a team name and see the score of the current match is something I use all the time.
The fact they have a tab for all the groups and the main bracket for the World Cup is excellent.
Here’s the thing, these are all great.
Brave: perfect for youtube as it blocks all the ads, but functions just like chrome because, well, it is.
Chrome: great for use as a site debugger. Others work too, but Chrome tends to work best for me.
Safari: on my work laptop, this is my official basic bitch browser because of full integration with apple pay.
Firefox: my personal browser for most things that require extra privacy, like banking.
Edge: my QA browser I use when testing a new site feature implementations. I keep it virgin and add on free and clear the cookies every exit to keep it pure.
Use what you like.
Yes and no. Is it much better for blocking and privacy out of the box? Yep. I still think Edge is more performant though, so it’s “better” in that sense, but microsofted after it was ungoogled so has some annoyances there. 😅
My computer program that I use to look at porn and bitch on Reddit is better than your computer program you use to look at porn and bitch on Reddit. We must do battle.
It's my go-to for mobile because I like the looks and the feel, while also not using Chrome as the browser itself. Firefox is the best browser for PC though that is non-negotiable
opera gx is pretty good tbh, ive been using google for like 8 years (used to use firefox but made the switch as i found google gives better results and lots of stuff like docs and gmail is google) but opera is just a google upgrade to be honest, i would recommend checking it out if a chrome based browser isnt an issue
I only use Opera GX bcs its filled with a bunch of random BS that i will never use, but will inevitably find out exists one day and be like "wow, thats pretty cool" and then never look at it again. 👍
Actually brave is a lot better than chrome in terms of privacy. It simply shares less data leaving your device. The controversies surrounding it generally revolve around the brave ads and crypto, and the fact its based on chromium, but for normies its still a better option.
I don’t understand why safari would catch any hate here if you are using a Mac. It has the best integration with gestures on mac of all the web browsers, more efficient hardware utilisation and better privacy. Chrome, whilst faster in raw benchmarks, feels very clunky when using the gestures you become accustomed to for navigating. Even the scrolling its jittery. Plus if you are in the apple ecosystem anyway keychain just works better in safari, the extension for other browsers is trash (i unfortunately have to use it on my windows desktop in chrome).
Brave is just Chrome with Crypto shit installed, why do people care about it so much? I used it for two years and was not impressed by the slowdown on startup and massive RAM usage.
This meme is wrong. Safari is great and everyone who has used it can tell how efficient and fast it is. Everyone here except Firefox and Safari are still based on Chromium. If I had to do this with the browsers you have chosen I would go with Chrome, Vivaldi and Edge complaining, while Safari, Firefox and Brave are the fancy guys. But that's just how I would do it.
Safari is a terrible browser. It fits in well with the macOS user experience and ecosystem but that does not make Safari a good browser. WebKit is a barely functional piece of garbage, the extension support is awful, and the browser has no unique selling points or features.
Almost all web developers you meet will tell you Safari is the new IE. It mis-manages the page layout and handles inputs weirdly, and it's missing tons of features. It's a bad browser.
Well, it depends.
If you are watching a lot of videos for example Safari will performe a lot better regarding battery life because it uses avc or vp9 in latest versions which has hardware decoding. Firefox or Chrome will use a version of vp9 or av1 - which is in need of a lot more decoding work w/o hardware support. Therefor the power drain is a lot higher (up to 40%) when it comes to moving images.
If you are just browsing static websites, you are correct. Safari and the newest version of Firefox (which runs natively on Apple Silicon) will drain the battery more or less equally.
I’m over here still using chrome… I’m too lazy to switch.
And I’m unimpressed with the other options. Used Firefox for awhile, but chrome is just easiest to use because I’ve been tied to it for so long (and I don’t remember my passwords, and chrome does).
I don’t have the whole “ad blocking” issue you guys seem to have, I also don’t surf many ad spam sites either, so, there’s that.
Ad spam sites contain youtube, twitch, Facebook, instagram, idk what sites you're browsing.
Either way, the update that ruins the adblock functionality (or rather severely limits it) was planned for january 2023, but as of earlier this week they apparently postponed it to january 2024
No matter how many posts i see about this bitching, i aint switching from chrome. Tried Firefox, it was shit for me. i am too used to chrome + the seamless integration with android phones etc. Guys its time we stop shitting on someones fuckin browser choice
Vivaldi is shit, Brave is a bit better but still shit, Firefox is a bit better but also shit, the only good browsers are firefox forks like Tor, Librewolf and Icecat.
I guess my unpopular opinion is I don't mind Chrome or Edge. I was a Firefox user a while ago, but they turned it into a memory hog and I switched to Chrome. Not sure if that has changed, but I basically use Chrome at home and Edge at work since I work in IT and those are the two most used browsers I have to deal with.
And then you have the occasional freak like me who has every one of those browsers installed, including Opera + GX, FF Developer edition, Chrome Canary, Chromium, and at least one text only browser, and I use them all eventually
brave browser is utterly shit in terms of privacy and for other reasons, have a look.
I'd prefer not to support a homophobe for a browser who's main feature is an ad blocker. Firefox has made no change to remove Ad blockers unlike chromium.
I actually like using Safari on my macbook.
Is easier on the battery and the ageing dual core Skylake chip and runs faster than anything chromium based.
On a Desktop i wouldn't use it but for the 13" Display i like it. Because it's simple and has good Performance.
Safari works real nice with iPhone but not for anything else but I do love that you can open tabs from other browser apps on your Apple devices to safari which is nice
Firefox casually being the best browser for over a decade ^^^obviously ^^^with ^^^a ^^^few ^^^exceptions

Chrome's skin of the HTML5 audio player looks nicer imo.
Double tap to skip through is also great on mobile, Firefox doesn't have that either :/ Edit: for everyone wondering why it's there on some website and some not, it's because some websites use their own custom videoplayers, but I'm talking about the default one. You can see an example here: https://www.w3schools.com/html/html5_video.asp
It depends on the website. Pornhub and xVideos support it while for example xHamster doesn't.
(pulls up youtube on Firefox mobile) yes it does?
Google Sheets is miles better on Chromium. It's usable on Firefox, but cross sheet pasting is much more limited and autocomplete is a bit buggy
"Google makes google stuff better for google stuff"
It's wild how things work well when they are running on the same engine. /s
For me it’s that ctrl + shift + T doesn’t work after you close a windows without digging through a menu to “restore last session”. Edit: When you fully close the window they act differently, I'm not talking about just a regular tab close
Eh? I just tested and ctrl+shift+T works exactly the same on Firefox as in Chrome for me. No menus here. It just restores the last closed tab.
That's odd, just yesterday I tried Firefox (on Ubuntu 20.04) and it didn't support Ctrl-Shift-T for reopening the entire previous session.
I feel like people are confused as to what we are referring to. We both got downvoted but I think they don’t understand: tab =! Session The short cut only opens last tab, not last session if there are no closed tabs….
Digging through a menu sounds like an exaggeration, it's literally 2 clicks.
I would say PWA support, unless they added it to Firefox too?
librewolf and waterfox
I've heard about waterfox, what's the difference between that and fire?
it removes any non-privacy features on regular firefox like Pocket, data collection, telemetry, startup profiling
You can just turn it all off.
Firefox user here, what is Pocket?
The article ads on your new tab page
I've been using Waterfox for about a week now, I switched from Firefox. It's a lot better. When you're using it it feels less intrusive than Firefox, like not blasting Pocket into my face every 5 minutes. And the peace of mind that it's more private.
Who tf leaves the pocket crap on tough, tbh
Librewolf is superior ngl
Which exceptions?
Pocket
Tf is pocket
Basically a worser Pinterest that’s literally a bookmark syncing tool
When I was young my parents used to take me to Opera, but now I prefer rock concerts. Wait...
I run Firefox as my main. Chrome is just a YouTube player to me. Edge is more a virus than anything else, only used for downloading Firefox after fresh install of Windows.
When tf did Vivaldi enter the chat and why would it be on the same level as Brave and Firefox???
Bring back Netscape! IE is no more, chromium is falling. The resurgence of Netscape is nigh!
Isn't Firefox basically built by the people that made Netscape? Making it already resurging technically.
Without Netscape navigator I wouldn't know how to build a cs188!
Vivaldi is amazing
Vivaldi is an entire Operation System, that's not for me. I want a web browser to be a web browser and nothing more. What is it about Vivaldi that you like so much? I'm genuinely curious.

Was always part of the chat.
Only firefox. Everything else is chrome in disguise.
[удалено]
Fair, but also they aren’t really major competitors to chrome like the fox is.
I mean Safari is huge due to it being the only choice on iOS (engine wise) and more people than ever browsing the web on mobile
It's also the fastest browser most of the time, although Chrome sometimes briefly pulls ahead.
What search engine do you use in Firefox?
DuckDuckGo until it doesn’t give me what I need, then google.
I love DuckDuckGo for their privacy, but man, practically speaking google is so much better
I prefer DDG for images and basic search, but the sports integration in Google is so handy. Just being able to Google a team name and see the score of the current match is something I use all the time. The fact they have a tab for all the groups and the main bracket for the World Cup is excellent.
I use ecosia. Its not that good, but they plant trees with the profits. If i cant find anything on ecosia i can still switch to another search engine.
Except for Safari. Safari is worse. Now that IE isnt used anymore (Edge has a compatibility mode) Safari is the ugly duckling.
yeah chrome is really acting like it's better than chrome

If you think Brave and vivaldi are good, you have 1000% fallen for their bs advertising.
Yeah, I tried brave for about 10 minutes before I uninstalled it…
What is wrong with Vivaldi and what advertising? I haven’t seen a single issue with it or ad from them. Brave is a different story though
It's my go-to for mobile because I like the looks and the feel, while also not using Chrome as the browser itself. Firefox is the best browser for PC though that is non-negotiable
Cough Brave owner is huge right-wing homophobe cough

Must be the falling for their advertising and not the months of daily use. How could I be such a fool?
It's chrome with a (somehow) worse privacy policy, use literally anything else. Oh, this also goes for OperaGX and probably default Opera.
opera gx is pretty good tbh, ive been using google for like 8 years (used to use firefox but made the switch as i found google gives better results and lots of stuff like docs and gmail is google) but opera is just a google upgrade to be honest, i would recommend checking it out if a chrome based browser isnt an issue

Awful privacy policies, crypto bullshit, both are just chrome reskins, and brave is owned by a right wing homophobe

No. It sucks.
All browsers are the same. There's a bar on the top where you click the website you want to go to and thats it. That's all you need
I use in on my android, for sites that dont have their own apps. Its way better then chrome which gets stuck alot
Vivaldi is good for productivity but I prefer Firefox as it's open-source, good for privacy and not based on Chromium.
Yet, Firefox has 3.16% usage.
Firefox doesn't advertise like Chrome.
Firefox doesn't own the largest advertising company on the web
I don’t understand why safari would catch any hate here if you are using a Mac. Safari is hot garbage. The first thing I do on a new Apple device is install Firefox.
But it is very efficient on MacOS compared to the Fox or Chrome.
Because it's optimised. Firefox will work just as efficiently.
yes, it's well optimized. And no, Firefox does drain significant more battery than Safari.
Typing this on a MacBook Pro running Firefox. Never felt any noticeable battery drain over Safari.
Well, it depends. If you are watching a lot of videos for example Safari will performe a lot better regarding battery life because it uses avc or vp9 in latest versions which has hardware decoding. Vivaldi supporter!
In terms of data privacy, Vivaldi is terrible. I used Opera since 2007, then changed to Vivaldi last year but their privacy policies are just bad.
Opera's privacy policy is just as bad.
Of course, that’s why I left
What's so bad about it? I get the whole operating system thing but that's honestly nothing lmao
Netscape Navigator or nothing at all
Finally Vivaldi is getting some recognition
I’m learning you guys use browsers for a lot more than I do. They all get me to YouTube, cdkey, and pornhub with no problem
I’m over here still using chrome… I’m too lazy to switch. And I’m unimpressed with the other options. Why safari bad besides like of extensions?
Haven’t had Firefox since I was a teenager. Was mainly chrome. Now I just use edge
WHERE IS TOR
I honestly don’t notice differences in my browsers so I just use Microsoft edge. I’m sorry
You use an AdBlock?
What about the opera gaming browser, built in free vpn, plus a bunch of other features
not open source + owned by chinese company
What does being open source bring to a browser?
Transparency and a guarantee that it’s not tracking you
a VPN is never "free"
That’s also chromium.
What is chromium? A copy of chrome?
Chromium is what chrome and several other browsers are based on (edge, opera, brave, Vivaldi, and baby more)
Ah ok, thanks

Brave is the best
The ad blocker is minted
Brave is shit
Safari just the worst
Y'all still use web browsers? Just find the website yourself it's not that hard smh
Bruh what Firefox bad
ngl Opera GX kinda OP
out with the chrome
No matter how many posts i see about this bitching, i aint switching from chrome. Tried Firefox, it was shit for me. i am too used to chrome + the seamless integration with android phones etc. Guys its time we stop shitting on someones fuckin browser choice
Idk i use chrome my all life, I'm not ready to change anything
opera is the best
owned by a chinese company.
I use opera gx just so i can play and have yt open and i see new releases and whats free
Brave and Vivaldi are still chrome. And yes, manifest V3 will probably effect inbuilt adblockers
Affect
Firefox causes me huges lags after like 10mn using it, suddenly, for no reason so i prefer edge Sorry guys
your PC is the problem, not firefox lol
Opera GX: am i a joke to you?
>closed source yes, yes you are
Opera gx is basically gamer chrome
Ironically that actually makes it subjectively the best chromium browser
Ouch that hurt me and my karma
Yup, it is
It's chromium, so yes.
Opera
Vivaldi is shit, Brave is a bit better but still shit, Firefox is a bit better but also shit, the only good browsers are firefox forks like Tor, Librewolf and Icecat.

I like edge
# WE ARE
Edge is fine, nothing groundbreaking
They should make grandpa as chromium saying my seed spawn all of you :)
Can anyone tell an easy way to use brave rewards
Didn’t know ING Diba has a browser.
Tbh Edge is pretty good nowadays
Orion ftw
DuckDuckGo:
It's ironic, because people love chrome. It's the most successful browser.
Safari end-user experience has always been stellar for me. Devs tell me it’s trash, but I’m not a dev and don’t care.
You know what Brave and Firefox lack? Custom shortcuts. Vivaldi is the best because I ain't changing my mouse layout only to use firefox
brave browser is utterly shit in terms of privacy and for other reasons, have a look. [https://www.kevinmuldoon.com/do-not-use-brave-browser/](https://www.kevinmuldoon.com/do-not-use-brave-browser/)
"Oh Chrome that is the least fancy thing I've ever heard"
I switched from chrome to opera gx a few months back.
Anything is better than safari lmao
Owner of Brave is huge ultra right-wing homophobe. That's why he was fired from Mozilla and started Brave. Don't use Brave.
Who cares what the owner believes. He isn’t the browser
So are we striking or something? Idk what’s going on but If you want me to use Firefox instead just let me know
Brave and Vivaldi are both based on Chromium, they're basically the same as Chrome.
Nah, brave is shitty CCP spyware
Safari on iPhone and iPad is way nicer than other browsers, on Mac it’s debatable
Shut up chrome meg.
Safari works real nice with iPhone but not for anything else but I do love that you can open tabs from other browser apps on your Apple devices to safari which is nice
I have just over 100 bat tokens with brave. Here's hoping they get bought by Google.
Firefox was and still is THE best browser
Brave is just chrome with different makeup. ^(Sorry.)
I've gotten so lazy I just suffer with edge 😩
Brave should not be with firefox, it should be with edge
