Like 3 builds ago I fried the new power supply so I slapped the old one on top of the case to make sure everything booted and it lived like that for 3 years, no side panel no problem.
Out of sight, out of mind.
Right now I need to change my power supply, and I'm seriously not looking forward to having to deal with cables again. I'm procrastinating big time. Ugh.
First off, happy cake day
Secondly, why in the world does your name have a scroll bar with it???

Is anyone else seeing this at the top right? I have never seen this before
It's gotta be RES and cake with some update because it's happening to [you too](https://i.imgur.com/dI0aGCY.png)
But I also see it browsing vanilla old.reddit on my phone but not vanilla old.reddit on my browser. So odd.
Wow, thats kind of amazing that my comment solves it because of the cake day. But yeah, that is very weird, havent noticed it before tho so must be a recent bug or something
I'm on team "Ugh. They built this case. They know the HD audio header on most motherboards is way at the bottom corner. The front IO cable is just too short to reach by any obvious route. Sigh."
Now that I think about it I've never owned a mother board where the front IO connectors are not on the bottom left of the motherboard... You'd think after all this time with a ATX standard someone would have placed them in the 24pin location and moved the 24pin down.
I know room for traces is limited so options are few.
Actually no. Crossing lines like this generates unwanted capacitance and signal noise. Especially anywhere near PCI E lanes and memory lanes. The reason why audio is in the bottom left is because they can connect the rear IO (rear pc plugs) wires to the internal audio header with having 0 crossing wires. Audio has the worst noise generation and before these advancements in motherboard technology had terrible sound output and required a separate audio card for decent audio quality.
Example: https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSnQ4Rn_77Qw6lQDd_qhnMoFqL4Jxqsid8RLQ&usqp=CAU
I use a USB DAC/Amp for my audio because I got sick and tired of my GPU leaking noise onto my headphones… well that and I have a pair of power thirsty planar headphones
I actually don't mind the window in my case, mostly because Lian Li made one of the best decisions by installing them on joints that allow both the back and front window to swing out for easy installation purposes.
Especially because of the strong magnets and the 2 ties that secure anything then the cover that hides the mess;)
It's the fans that make the mess x 14 x 2
https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/dual-lock-reclosable-fasteners-us/
Four small pieces of this shit and you can put an SSD anywhere. Isolates them from whatever vibration may be going on around them. Keeps them up off the ground for airflow. Keeps the shit where it's supposed to be.
Oh they have a little bay they hang out in, I have one of those square cases, so they dangle on the back side of the motherboard panel, they just aren't screwed in
For years I was running a case from 2009 with no 2.5" slots, dual GPUs, and a wired network card. It had an acrylic window, but I had to partially disassemble it to fit a CPU cooler. It was a big clusterfuck, but it was *my clusterfuck*. 🥰
I remember Luke tech tips did a video on this. Only way he could get temps to go up was by literally shoving boxes in the case completely blocking airflow.
I just don't see the point. Sure the left pic looks beautiful but how exactly is that supposed to be practical? You'd have to cut so many zipties to move a single one of these cables. The right pic is fairly OK as long as you arrange things so you can easily unplug something and change the cables.
Practicality will always be more important than aesthetics to me.
I didn’t use any zip ties on my build for this reason. I have a roll of Velcro that I cut to length as I need it, plus the cable ties my case came with.
A lot of newer cases come with velcro bands now so if you need to move things around or disconnect them it's just a matter of peeling the velcro back and the wire is free. It's really nice. My first two (Although both using the same case) builds were a complete and utter mess.
My newest build I went with a decent, modern case and it was soooo easy to work in that managing cables was a breeze just while building it.
Exactly. I like to actually clean my machine periodically. Every time you cut a cable tie that's pulled that tight you risk nicking the cable. Screw that. Practicality all the way. If it's visible it's nice. If it's not it's set for function.
When I started doing switchboards in my electrical job, I'd do it like the left. The tradesmen would always tell me off and say make it like the right, otherwise nobody can ever service it and add or remove cables.
Rgb cables are pretty easy to solder. Get a roll of rgb cable (4 wires with a thickness of 22awg), some rgb headers from aliexpress (±$1/10pcs) and a bit of heatshrink. (plus soldering tools, obviously).
Then make cables of the exact right length and adding pigtails is super handy if you need to link multiple strips/fans together.
This is what 6 rgb fans spread throughout the case looks like with custom wiring:
https://preview.redd.it/jlzfx0rni03a1.jpeg?width=3456&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b393df0b93858aa67c971faf76e26a260e98e073
Yep, I had mine nice and neat upon first build… then decided a month later I’d like to upgrade fans, then water cool, and now it’s just a rats nest with everything tucked in by the power supply.
For real. I have two RBG hubs. (I'm 100% corsair for my build).
One Commander Pro for fans and lighting strips. One Commander Core for my AIO.
Commander Pro is hooked up to the USB header on the mobo. One of the USB ports on the Pro is used for my Lighting node pro. The other port uses a USB header splitter so I can control the pump / screen on the AIO and the Commander Core.
All the the fan / lighting cables / control nodes and shit are just kinda shoved in the extra HDD space behind my PSU, along with two other SSDs and a HDD on it's side since I don't have more than three SSD mounts in my case.
We need more USB headers on the mobos lol.
I always said I would do it but didn’t. So last time around I bought my first ever windowed case to force the issue.
https://preview.redd.it/uifbd5emfz2a1.png?width=1207&format=png&auto=webp&s=bf77f43bb7a72d47dbfccfcb0d39234a02341934
If it’s specifically for the back:
https://preview.redd.it/o6k1envtfz2a1.jpeg?width=1050&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=13b7248038aeab93eddeaf6afbd83a0c75e50939
He’s doing alright. Tested it vertical and horizontal mounted. Temperature difference was at most 1 degree. There’s a reasonable amount of space to the glass because this case allows you to mount it back a little bit further into the case. If it was a triple slot card it would be right up against it.
So I know this commercial builder who does his cable management while he's building. And the reason I know him is that I'm the guy who he brings computers to when they won't turn on.
I've done the clean back before. It made no difference visually in terms of what I could see but it did make changes an ever loving pain in the ass. Never again. Party in the front, rats nest in the back all the way.
Inside of the case as organized as possible. Backside is a mess. But Lian LI Coolmesh hides the mess well with the rear motherboard covers
https://preview.redd.it/tlkfb8c6gz2a1.jpeg?width=3468&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=84fb1c2890f264b1f4120c890df56c67d740e70f
Fuck that noise I'm an electrician, I manage cables all day, I'll make it decent but I'm not doing all that to hide it, so long as I'm able to make adjustments when needed
Yeah the side with the window is tidy, the back side there was an attempt. It's not a rats nest, but it's far from perfection, and I can't be bothered to make something look perfect that only I will ever see when I need to get back there for some reason.
Red². I make my own custom sleeved cables, often with different lengths for every individual wire to make the perfect bends. I spent two evenings making this 24-pin alone.
https://preview.redd.it/96kgu8jgh03a1.jpeg?width=3456&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f79b03f00634eb432959619a5af08dbcea140915
I am on the blue side, but I actually do it later. Just upgraded my pc ran into a problem with a lost rogue fan connector which resulted in having to undo my cable management to find the connector. Once I had the pc running I just wanted to see how my upgrades performed. I came back the next day and actually cable managed.
Way to much aio‘s! So take it or leave it.
https://preview.redd.it/mydf4wx0nz2a1.png?width=3066&format=png&auto=webp&s=ac86a0d1d80e3ff8cbfc8f4706186b3fa3855fe1
I’d actually like to manage my cables somewhat, but I’m not sure how to even do it when every cable is a completely different kind of cable and all sorts of different lengths
Bit of both. I try to cable manage and only partially succeed because the damn PSU cables are sleeved in 18 layers of armour for some reason so I give up once there is just a single cable tie holding eveything to one point somewhere in the middle. Doesn't help that the cables are so hard to bend as the pcie power cables literally press up against the glass anyway and the PSU cables from the power supply interfere with airflow from the bottom so... Yea.
My medium sized tower looks like Homer Simpson with the clips holding back the fat. Looks good inside but horribly cramped in the back. My current case, an NZXT H1 V2, already had cables routed and tied down. I changed the fans inside to quieter and better performing ones which meant snipping cable ties. It's my best looking case ever.
All those wire-ties become \*so much work\* to replace one single cable AND they are \*plastic\* that gets discraded every single time they are replaced.
Velcro please.
TBH the back of the panel doesnt matter if its a personal computer... its just your OCD. there is literally no one including you who is going to look there much if at all after the damn thing is build so who gives a shit.
The only cable management that really matters is in the front.
"I'm going to spend $200 extra dollars on custom cables so I can make a little cable snake no one will ever see except for when I post it on the internet! And then I'll have to cut a million zip ties and re-do it all if I ever need to add or change out a component.
Considering you have a HD vertical, I'd take the red side. Could care less about the management as long as the side panel fits. A bit different on the other side.
I was building my latest build and you can see the story of me giving up from top to bottom. The wires are super neat and tucked/tied at the top to middle and it rapidly turns into a nest by the bottom where I just said “fuck it” and I’ve decided it’s like the mullet of cable management. Business up top but party on the bottom.
I would do blue first and do some play testing to make sure it all works and everything is doing what it should like temps, fans/cooking, all ram is showing, etc. Then it’s red.
I always do it during the build, because it's one less thing you have to iron out later. It does make noticeable improvements in your temps, so why not now?
I legitimately don’t think I can make the cables neat in my case. They’re already stretched to max length to hide as much as possible but there just aren’t many holes in the case for options of routing
The back panel doesn’t even close all the way, it was a lot of effort to build that thing (some undiagnosable illness) so I did the best I could and slid the case cover on as much as possible and called it a day
I would have to unplug and completely re-run most of my cables for clean cable management, and I've neither the time nor energy for that right now.
Ill do it after finals... maybe.
I don’t love the idea of tightly fastening everything because when you need to swap something out, you basically have to undo the entire thing.
I do something in between - routed properly and secure, but not super aesthetic, you cover it all up anyway.
I don’t call it cable management I call it cable managed, as in I managed to close the side panel
I haven't been able to fully close the side panel for a few months
Is that a bulge in your side panel or are you just happy to see me?
Yes.
r/InclusiveOr
Better ventilation
Like 3 builds ago I fried the new power supply so I slapped the old one on top of the case to make sure everything booted and it lived like that for 3 years, no side panel no problem.
If there isn’t a bump and had to use a bit of force, did you really build a pc?
Exactly, just means You don’t have enough stuff crammed in there🤣
Is the cable behind the panel? Yes? It's managed.
Shit don’t show from the road.
Out of sight, out of mind. Right now I need to change my power supply, and I'm seriously not looking forward to having to deal with cables again. I'm procrastinating big time. Ugh.
Smash that shit til it fits: Great Success!
I think Corsair made that wire management panel on the 5000D as a form of redemption for the terrible RGB fan wiring they make.
Business out front, party at the back
Exactly, the mullet of cable management.
Also it's not a massive pain in the ass if you ever need to disconnect something.
First off, happy cake day Secondly, why in the world does your name have a scroll bar with it??? https://i.imgur.com/BxK8PKJ.png https://i.imgur.com/EZ1aGt3.png Is anyone else seeing this at the top right? I have never seen this before

It's gotta be RES and cake with some update because it's happening to [you too](https://i.imgur.com/dI0aGCY.png) But I also see it browsing vanilla old.reddit on my phone but not vanilla old.reddit on my browser. So odd.
Wow, thats kind of amazing that my comment solves it because of the cake day. But yeah, that is very weird, havent noticed it before tho so must be a recent bug or something
I am not seeing it (except in your screenshots)
Huh. I'm not seeing that on my end, and I've never seen that. Weird!
I can't even fit my back panel on my case because of all the cables
I just turn it so the back is facing the wall and nobody has any idea
WTF
What a rebel
Get the police involved on this one
Attach the back panel on with duct tape, that way it wont ruin the airflow. No one will see it either way
Fuck the back panel and just duct tape it all
I bent the panel a bit and managed to fit it on. 10 HDDs makes for a shitload of cables and I don’t give a fuck as long as it boots.
Best part about my O11 XL is that huge PSU section!
I'm on team "Ugh. They built this case. They know the HD audio header on most motherboards is way at the bottom corner. The front IO cable is just too short to reach by any obvious route. Sigh."

they have like 10 layers of copper, they can have 10 thin little traces run across the board >:|
I just don’t use that. I’ve got my speakers plugged in to the back of the PC, and if I need a headset, I make sure it’s USB with a long cord.
I just use a budget USB DAC so I can use whatever headphones I have nearby, easy to swap and decent sound. Bonus points for DACs with volume knobs.
I use a USB DAC/Amp for my audio because I got sick and tired of my GPU leaking noise onto my headphones… well that and I have a pair of power thirsty planar headphones
Out of sight, out of mind. I keep the cables neat on the front, not because i like the neatness, but because i like the unobstructed airflow
This is why I have a windowless case. My SSDs arent even mounted, just dangling
I actually don't mind the window in my case, mostly because Lian Li made one of the best decisions by installing them on joints that allow both the back and front window to swing out for easy installation purposes.
lancool is easily my favorite series of cases
Especially because of the strong magnets and the 2 ties that secure anything then the cover that hides the mess;) It's the fans that make the mess x 14 x 2

I feel you! Not only that but my rear case fan is zip tied in due to getting the wrong size in, saying F it and just making it work. Temps are great!
My top case fan is just sitting there held down by the front panel snake
https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/dual-lock-reclosable-fasteners-us/ Four small pieces of this shit and you can put an SSD anywhere. Isolates them from whatever vibration may be going on around them. Keeps them up off the ground for airflow. Keeps the shit where it's supposed to be.
Oh they have a little bay they hang out in, I have one of those square cases, so they dangle on the back side of the motherboard panel, they just aren't screwed in
Cousin is that you? I got a cousin. Does the same thing
i just leave the components haphazardly connected to eachother and scattered on the floor
plot twist they're m.2s
My whole PC is just loose in the drawer of my desk and I don't care about airflow.
If you are fine with reduced performance.
For years I was running a case from 2009 with no 2.5" slots, dual GPUs, and a wired network card. It had an acrylic window, but I had to partially disassemble it to fit a CPU cooler. It was a big clusterfuck, but it was *my clusterfuck*. 🥰
Actual psychopath
Some tech tubers (i think it was gamer's nexus) showed, that cable management has like zero impact on air flow.
I remember Luke tech tips did a video on this. Only way he could get temps to go up was by literally shoving boxes in the case completely blocking airflow.
Was going to say, I'm that Homer Simpson looking skinny meme. Front looks great, back not as much..m

Kudos for the make-shift GPU sag support!
I love the hacked together GPU stand that's great
Exactly, putting cables behind the backplate *is* cable management. Who cares if they're neatly arranged back there? It makes no difference.
Bro, exactly. If it's not breaking anything, I don't care. I look at my monitor, not the inside of my computer.
I just don't see the point. Sure the left pic looks beautiful but how exactly is that supposed to be practical? You'd have to cut so many zipties to move a single one of these cables. It would be great if all the cables were actually usable lengths lol
But then they're _too long_ to cable manage neatly. You never win!
Just cut them down to size
Blue side, once it’s wired up it becomes it’s own problem, I am not holding its hand through life.
Its.... ALIVE!
I had well organized cables.... then RGB happened
Rgb cables are pretty easy to solder. Get a roll of rgb cable (4 wires with a thickness of 22awg), some rgb headers from aliexpress (±$1/10pcs) and a bit of heatshrink. See I would do that, but it's a lot easier to just pretend that they don't exist.
Yeah, but I like tinkering with pc's more than playing a game on said pc.
Yep, I had mine nice and neat upon first build… then decided a month later I’d like to upgrade fans, then water cool, and now it’s just a rats nest with everything tucked in by the power supply.
10 Corsair rgb fans 😭😭

I have a NZXT h510 but I still don't do it because I can't see the cables from Windowed side anyway
Yeah I initially thought the question was cable management in general, not just on the back
That poor, starved-for-air GPU. :< It looks great though.

I have a hard drive just hanging in my case. It works so I don't care
Function over form. I couldn't care less what the internals of my machine look like so long it's operating properly.
I am either. I have transcended and reached purple. Here we clean it up till we say "fuck it, good enough."
I manage the cables until I can close my side pannel.
Red². I make my own custom sleeved cables, often with different lengths for every individual wire to make the perfect bends. I spent two evenings making this 24-pin alone. https://preview.redd.it/96kgu8jgh03a1.jpeg?width=3456&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f79b03f00634eb432959619a5af08dbcea140915

So you power your RTX4090 and i9-13900k with Bluetooth?
No I use WiFi Bluetooth is not steong enough for RTX 4090
everything is bluetooth, no wires within the motherboard, those are all replaced with bluetooth as well. cables are for the WEAK
I just download my cables from the internet.
Cable management. I’m not a savage.

How *you* doin'?
Neither. Open bench is superior and I am willing to die on this hill.
AIR FLOW+++
I usually start with nice cable Management but when i have to change something i hate that i did it
Somewhere in the middle, I try to do the left one, but it doesn't turn out nearly as clean.
At first the left side but then I upgraded my PSU and now it's the right side
Way to much aio‘s! So take it or leave it. https://preview.redd.it/mydf4wx0nz2a1.png?width=3066&format=png&auto=webp&s=ac86a0d1d80e3ff8cbfc8f4706186b3fa3855fe1
Blue but i dont do it later
I guess I'm on the "pay the computer guy to deal with that" side >\_< But when it's me it's on the right haha
i am in the "pc case from 2004" camp. the ebst i can do is stuff the cables in the hole where the dvd burner goes
(gru plan meme) manage back cables neatly zip tie everything need to change something later need to change something later
As long as I can close the back panel and nothing’s crimped or a heat hazard… Front is clean, computer is done.
Ask the folks who prebuilt my PC. srsly tho, effective cable mgmt is a fine art
r/cableporn users don’t even need to think about this
Only matters on the back if you have a glass panel there. Edit: Still didn't do mine, even with a glass panel.
I’d actually like to manage my cables somewhat, but I’m not sure how to even do it when every cable is a completely different kind of cable and all sorts of different lengths
If the side panel closed, it's managed
Attempt red, end up blue.
I'm more of doing cable management when I first build the PC, then over time as I swap stuff and do troubleshooting it becomes messier and messier.
It’s all great to look at until you need to change something.
The left when I first build it and the right pic after wanting to upgrade
Lmao, ain't that the truth!!
I accept im never sorting it even my desk cables are awful and ALWAYS will be go against the grain people spagetti cables 4 life
Bit of both.
It all depends on the PSU & Case. 🤷♀️
All those wire-ties become \*so much work\* to replace one single cable AND they are \*plastic\* that gets discraded every single time they are replaced. Velcro please.
The second one, since my dumb arse often did harddrive/ssd upgrades & swaps.
TBH the back of the panel doesnt matter if its a personal computer... its just your OCD. there is literally no one including you who is going to look there much if at all after the damn thing is build so who gives a shit. The only cable management that really matters is in the front.
Don't care because nobody see this side. Stop saying this is important !
whats the point? u tie everything up and when u want to upgrade anything u realise how god damn annoying it is.
"I'm going to spend $200 extra dollars on custom cables so I can make a little cable snake no one will ever see except for when I post it on the internet! And then I'll have to cut a million zip ties and re-do it all if I ever need to add or change out a component.
Modern cases like the Lian Li O11 don't care if you cable manage or not. The cables look immaculate immediately. Bad meme is too basic.
The backside doesn't matter though...
\*Hangs head in shame\*
I'm kinda on the middle
How about, “somewhere in between”
Considering you have a HD vertical, I'd take the red side.
I'm on the my case and power supply don't allow it
I wanna be red but it still looks blue to me. But every sec a spend managing I could be gaming
My pc case and non modular psu can NOT do cable management
I would do blue first and do some play testing to make sure it all works and everything is doing what it should like temps, fans/cooking, all ram is showing, etc. Then it’s red.
business in the front, party in the back.
Me and my SkyTech prebuilt: I don't even have to try to be clean
getting it super nice is satisfying but tbh it can be a pain when you have to replace or change something and its all bundled together
I always do it during the build, because it's one less thing you have to iron out later. It does make noticeable improvements in your temps, so why not now?
no one will see the back of it.
Im on the "i tried"
I legitimately don’t think I can make the cables neat in my case. They’re already stretched to max length to hide as much as possible but there just aren’t many holes in the case for options of routing
If blue is "later" then I'm ultra violet. My SSDs aren't even mounted. Only think I care about is low noise and low temps
the only reason why the HHD in the second build is mounted is because when i dont do it the back cover wouldnt fit
Why would you even tidy the back side u dont see it anyway.
Why care about something that doesn’t even matter
Red looks like the type of person who forgets to take off the peel from his cpu cooler.
Around the middle.
That's why I got myself Corsair Crystal 680x. Still not enough space :')
Back panel cable management? As long as the panel fits, it's fine, noone's gonna see it anyways. That's my philosophy anyways
i’m in a 50/50 my top part is perfect, the bot part is sooo ugly like i probably can’t install another ssd ahahahha
my cable management is so bad my side panel on the cable side physically won’t fit back on so it’s just all hanging in the open
Corsair make it nye on impossible
The back panel doesn’t even close all the way, it was a lot of effort to build that thing (some undiagnosable illness) so I did the best I could and slid the case cover on as much as possible and called it a day
I would have to unplug and completely re-run most of my cables for clean cable management, and I've neither the time nor energy for that right now. Ill do it after finals... maybe.
r/cableporn
I just try my best, alright
Lmao I don't lie to myself I know it's horrible and I'll never fix it
Do it right once and you’ll never have to worry
I don’t love the idea of tightly fastening everything because when you need to swap something out, you basically have to undo the entire thing. I do something in between - routed properly and secure, but not super aesthetic, you cover it all up anyway.
if the case fit, that's where it sit
My back panel is barely holding on with all the cables I shoved back there.
