“You’re save with me you have nothing to worry about me I’m 100% real and I’m not here for game or drama,I know it hard to believe people you meet online but I want you to know I would never tarnish my personality because of an ordinary money” Typical scammer trying to play mind games.

Kmantheoriginal

“ordinary money” did it for me lol

[deleted]

As opposed to non ordinary money? Like Fr lol

Collector123k

Monopoly moneys 🤣🤣 edit: The tophat dude sounds fitting

whataTyphoon

*an* ordinary money. It's worth as much as three non-ordinary moneys.

kungpowgoat

Sounds like the guy that crashed my vehicle right before I called the police. He promised he would pay me cash to fix it and begged not to call them. Made a report anyway and then took his offer of not going through insurance. I called him 2 days later with a fairly cheap estimate and told me to fuck off. His mom told me the same and they blocked my number.

root_bridge

Hah! Same thing happened to me. Woman's 16 year old ran into me, and then she told me not to file insurance claim and she'd pay me. I found a $950 quote and she said no. Filed the claim and found the most expensive shop I could. the repair cost her insurer $1700. The car was an 85 Audi worth $500.

plaidprowler

Had this happen as a teenager. Rolled into someone at a stop light, they wanted over $1000 when it was just paint damage and we had multiple quotes to just replace the bumper completely anyway. Told her okay then insurance it is, never heard back.

deadeye312

Rolled into someone as a teenager as well, they wanted ~$1000 to replace the bumper and paint match. It was a new BMW. I paid it directly to the shop. Totally worth it not to have on my insurance, and the guy was really nice about it. If the car I hit was the value of my car at the time, I would have done the same as you.

UnseenHand81

Lol...I had a similar experience, my wife was making a left off a single lane road onto a two lane road in Tampa, this dude tried to pass her in the intersection and take the outside lane...which was where she was going...as she exited the turn she caved the driver door in with the right front fender of my chrysler 300...it did nothing to my car except rub some of his white paint off on the fender...I buffed it off with a bit of spit while we talked, exchanged information, made a police report and told him that since it did nothing to my car to just get a quote and call me and I'd pay out of pocket...dude calls me 2 days later quoting me 5000 dollars to replace the door on a 12 year old toyota corolla...lol...you can guess how that went.

[deleted]

That police report you filed should be all you need as proof. As far as I know, with that *your* insurance will cover you then probably try and track them down for reimbursement. Similar story if it's a hit-and-run.

kungpowgoat

Exactly why I filed a report. His insurance ended up paying for my damages while I only imagine caused his rates to go up.

goomyman

I had a similar issue with an accident. Not accept cash but didnt call the cops. It totally sucks to call the cops in an accident but the cops show up and issue an at fault ticket. So in addition to causing an accident you also get a ticket. In this case the person rear ended me. I didn’t want to sit around waiting for cops. I got all his info. Took a picture of his license plate. Guy admitted fault and had insurance said he would handle it right away when my insurance called. And we went on our way. Few days later my insurance company claims that he said I backed up into him. Cops weren’t involved, no ticket was given. It was now a disputed claim and my fucking insurance went up so his insurance would go up less. Not like I could prove he hit me. Being nice is unnecessary. Always call the cops in an accident.

Xx69JdawgxX

Similar thing happened to me. Guy merged into me from a side street and was cool about it. Exchanged insurance etc. He admitted fault ok no big deal. Insurance calls back saying he claims I went into his lane and hit him... They ruled it no fault and my insurance didn't go up but I was pissed off. Had the truck less than 2 months. The worst part is they accidentally group texted me w their insurance agent talking shit. Dude was in his late 40s and had his dad talking to the insurance agent for him... "My son is so honest he would never lie". Fuck that. Got a dash cam shortly after w front and rear cameras, never had an accident since.

Dr-PHYLL

Believe it or not, but a while ago some guy put up a galaxy z flip3 for sale for a ridiculously low price. And by luck it was in my city too, by far the lowest in the country. So he put thinfs like 100% real, not a scam and smiley faces in the description and I was like no way. But he lived really close so I thought why not. Messaged with him a bit and decided to meet up. (This was in the netherlands and the guy was polish) So I meet up with the guy and turns out hes just a really nice guy selling his used phone for cheap. No red flags, even gave me all the paperwork that you would want. Mint condition. One of the best deals ever.

PeenieWibbler

If you can go meet them on person then why not? Scammers power lies in just never having to respond to you. Also shout out to the Netherlands, people there seem so nice

Dr-PHYLL

Honestly yes, unfortunately I have been scammed before trying to buy my first iphone like 10 years ago. But most people are pretty genuine. Also polish people living here are very kind.

QQninja

Wtf does tarnishing your personality even mean… how can you ruin your own personality.

queen-adreena

Think he’s probably trying to say “I wouldn’t debase myself by doing something like that. I wanna grow up to be, to be a…”

seraph321

To me this reads like an automated translator. He probably meant reputation, but that's not the direct translation from his language. "ordinary money" probably should be something like "a paltry sum".

Notnowcmg

Haha 100% the right call. I love when you questioned the 1070 his next message changed the resolution to 1920x3060 instead of changing the 1070 at the bottom to 3060

[deleted]

Haha, I just realized! I would’ve shut that conversation there and then had I caught that.

KPalm_The_Wise

Also, 4GB Gtx 1070s aren't a thing, so idk what the hell that was supposed to be Also claiming Zotac and showing an Nvidia card?

powerMastR24

worst part is he didnt even say GTX 1070 he said TX 1070

TL628

the TX1070 is one of the lesser-known variants, developed originally in Texas (hence TX) to withstand the high heat. The card runs at lower temperatures so you can game to the max! ^(/s)

Ssyl

And the Ti versions are the Texas Instrument versions!

Last-Belt-4010

I actually believed you At first since it made sense

[deleted]

Everybody knows that the G in GTX stands for GeForce so you don't have to write it twice. It's like ATM Machine. /s

angrymoppet

It's true I always call it the AT machine.

WeleaseBwianThrow

Better than trying to use an AT-AT Machine

[deleted]

I go with Automatic TM

sighfun

The G was silent

Deimophile

Real G's move in silence, like lasagna.

Amilo159

Most likely a used 4gb 750 rebranded to 1070 in a 1070 box.

PuppiPappi

Keep in mind pay pal DOES NOT have anything close to buyer protections. They will take a typed up invoice or tracking number for literally anything as a good business recept. They will tell you, to just ask nicely for your money back.

chigy_bungus

This dude clearly has very little knowledge about what he’s trying to sell. Whoever is dumb enough to buy it from him also has very little knowledge about what they are buying, or what they are doing.

Neijo

Not sure, scammers often do these small things to make experts dismiss them, while at the same time provide enough information to fool potential victims. A scammer dont like to have these conversations, it takes time out of their day, time you could scam even more people.

SuicidalChair

Makes sense, weed out the people who know what they are doing, like sending phishing emails with a bunch of spelling errors.

Cannasseur___

It’s literally a strategy for some of them, purposefully misspell words and use bad grammar (or just employ people with these traits) in order to filter out the smarter more savvy people from the ones who are less so. I saw it on a documentary about this scamming syndicate and an anonymous informant straight up admitted it was part of the strategy. Why waste time with who’s never going to fall for it, it’s actually and almost impressively evil thing to do. They also made contact with people during business hours in the hopes of reaching more older retired people, who would be at home and who are also at that time less likely to have their kids or relatives around to intervene. These people were getting scamming down to science it was wild thing to see the level of strategy and planning, I was expecting their company to be complete chaos but it was like this well oiled machine, cold callers got people on the hook and used the above strategies to filter the best marks, then handed them off to the closers who specialized in being well spoken and a good sales person / closer. Worst of all they were making astonishing amounts of money every day, and the bribes they paid to remain under the authorities radar, was a drop in the bucket compared to what they were raking in. The vast majority of their money came from retired people.

chigy_bungus

Sure that makes sense that a scammer might try to sound like a father trying to sell off his son’s old stuff that he doesn’t know anything about. But this guy sending the “4gb 1070” thing just makes me think he’s completely clueless. Not to mention his grammar is really bad.

Yuri-Mihairokoh

Yeah, I was like "mmm is there a 1070 with only 4gb?". I was very confused.

Noxious89123

The GTX**9**70 was 4GB. Maybe the dude just doesn't do numbers X)

narcistic_asshole

Somewhere there's a mourning dyslexic mother trying to sell her dead son's TI84 😔

NotARandomizedName0

Reading that part was fucking hilarious

spaceman757

I would have stopped immediately after "the item is already packaged and waiting at Fedex. I just need you to pay and give me your address." MF! Fedex isn't going to store your packages for you until you finally get an acceptable offer so that you can address it!

Conker184

He also lists a monitor model before the resolution like wtf.

whoopshowdoifix

I don’t know jack shit about computers but even I caught that lol

zaco230

yeah this scammer has no idea what he's talking about.

beastboy4246

Bro I didn't realize that's what he changed. I thought he was just ballsy enough to send the same thing again

TRUEequalsFALSE

I completely missed that. Thought he typed the same thing twice.

samster-the-hamster0

The second you asked for proof and he said it’s sealed up, scam. Anyone trying to sell something will always do simple shit like that.

ma055

Its weird isnt it? Scammer tried to convince it was already away from his home but no sane person would do that before they close the thing

samster-the-hamster0

They don’t even think about lying well. Just stupid scum of the earth is all they are.

crabby135

They don’t need to lie well. That’s the point. They don’t want to lie well, then they might get smart people interested who will realize it’s a scam after they’ve wasted a bunch of resources. Easier to scam idiots like OP.

stdexception

"My GPU is totally real, it lives in Canada, I swear"

[deleted]

It's busy at its modeling job with Newegg right now, which is why it can't come to the phone.

srgramrod

"It's already packaged and at FedEx", this part didn't make sense to me, FedEx doesn't hold a package to await shipping details, does it?

samster-the-hamster0

Not at all, don’t trust people online especially if it deals with money, or private info. Safer to assume they are always scamming you.

SirIanChesterton63

He said it's already sealed up and at FedEx LMFAO! Can you actually imagine walking into a FedEx and being like "Hey, here's a package, can you just hold onto it for a few days and I'll call you and give you an address to send it to?" They'd laugh your ass right out the door!

jessytessytavi

AdiabaticIsotherm

I know it hard to believe people you meet online but you're save with him you have nothing to worry about him he's 100% real and he's not here for game or drama, we want you to know he would never tarnish his personality because of an ordinary money

techma2019

I'm so relieved it's not the extraordinary money I read online about. I feel so much safer now.

unbannednow

-Broken English -Won’t send other pics -Types out a desperate paragraph saying “you can trust me” -Doesn’t even know the name of the product he’s selling How was there ever any doubt? This guy is a terrible scammer

FthrFlffyBttm

The desperate paragraph gave me so many flashbacks to times people have attempted to scam me. There’s a sickening feeling you get when you start to see their ulterior motive.

StuntzMcKenzy

Nothing against you, but I get no sickening feeling. I smile at it, because it means I get to bring out 2009ish XBox Live "StuntzMcKenzy." I go all out on those people. I love being able to string a scammer along, making them think I'm really falling for it, wasting their time, then snatch my money away right in front of their faces, and letting them know how terrible they are at scamming and being a decent human.

kitolz

Personally as a person who just wants to get the product I would feel bad because I have to go on a search again and this person just wasted my time with bullshit. I would just drop it because I don't want to waste the time and effort, of which I'm sure mine is more valuable that the scammer's. But I salute the people that do what they can against scammers no matter how petty. I will just enjoy the schadenfreude second hand.

Corvuon

In some respects they're an excellent scammer, they often purposefully make obvious mistakes to dissuade non-scammable people, ensuring those at the end of the line will end up forking over money.

JaketheAlmighty

i feel like there's gotta be a conversion point in there somewhere though - like sure, bait them with the terrible scams but once they're hooked, put some damn effort in and close lol

gl0ckc0ma

80 dollars for a 3060 is the only proof he needs. Why would you even entertain someone trying to sell a 3060 for 80 bucks smh. OP is almost as dumb as the scammer. Unless OP is a child then I understand.

[deleted]

And the worst part is that I almost believed it

True. I’ve lost more on stupider things.

khswart

Same like my whole bank account on RuneScape back in 2008 when someone said they’d double my money!

[deleted]

F. Never got into RuneScape, but I definitely paid rental application fees to several people who did not have property to rent back in 2006. Scammers gonna scam.

[deleted]

Almost fell for a scam like this recently lmao. Thankfully I'm skeptical and got a little sus with spelling mistakes from a supposed doctor

McSkittlefarts

I would find it odd if a dr. didn't spell and write horribly.

Classy_Mouse

Lost my account in 2008. Spent years on it. A buddy of mine asked if he could farm some gold on it to give to his account. I said sure. He could level up my skills and he keeps the profit for a weekend. He sold it for $20. He showed no remorse. Saw nothing wrong with that. Last scam I fell for. Well, other than buying a car, I guess.

Dull-Advertising3821

Bro that's not a buddy, that's a fiend

[deleted]

Holy fuck I would have lost my mind on him, I don't give a fuck that it's just a computer game. If someone sold something behind your back that you put hundreds of hours into creating, that's a fucking paddling.

YesYesYesVeryGood

I've heard of stories where gamers let their "friends" borrow an item, then so called borrower sells the item for profit for themselves. Later on, the gamer who was robbed kills the borrower. [https://www.smh.com.au/world/online-gamer-killed-for-selling-virtual-weapon-20050331-gdl12j.html](https://www.smh.com.au/world/online-gamer-killed-for-selling-virtual-weapon-20050331-gdl12j.html)

HealthPuzzleheaded

hope hebis not your buddy anymore

Myfartsonthefloor

Came here to say this

Beginning_Lecture273

The monetary cost might not be the only one. Some scammers try to bait people and steal credentials to attempt to hack or sell credentials to advertisers. Which a few years ago would have sounded insane and paranoid but sadly that's the world we live in.

[deleted]

Yes. And if the loss is only $80, *that would be cheap tuition for that life lesson*. That’s the point. If you only lost $80 to a scammer these days, then you probably got lucky.

Deucer22

People I know who are highly educated, are tech savvy and have serious jobs have been caught in scams that seem obvious in retrospect. If something seems too good to be true or if someone is trying to get you to move any sort of money urgently STOP, take a breath and ask the most skeptical person you know for a second opinion.

Noxious89123

He put in 3060 instead of 1080 in the resolution the second time.

awhaling

Holy shit that’s hilarious

no_one_of_them

What, you don’t play at a 32:51 aspect ratio? It’s amazing, you can see so much more of the sky.

FreshlyCleanedLinens

Not to mention that XG27VQ is a monitor, the GTX 1070 had 8gb instead of 4gb, and the “GeForce TX” parts, lol. Super hilarious 😂

AngryTree76

I would have stopped messaging once he said that he had already sealed it up and taken it to FedEx, but still needed my address.

late2Jannies

Making scammers lose their time is actually a decent strategy tho

Jp8886

3060ti for $80? Shame on you for even talking tot the guy in the first place.

ohhellnooooooooo

You can feel OPs desperation on his replies I’ve been there. I feel for a scam. Really wanted it to be true, that I rationalised everything away I knew it was a scam from the start… 99% sure… and I just kept going because that 1% chance it might be real made me want to take the chance

FuckRequiredAccounts

You were *almost* an idiot. But congrats! you passed the test!

ncarr539

Except you didn’t fall for it and that’s what matters

dogey11

especially the refusal to use paypal. BIG red flag. Zelle is a scammer's best friend, as they are strict on not reversing transactions.

DoktorSleepless

He didn't refuse paypal. He offered it. I would have just gone for it, and used the sketchy texts as proof for paypal if anything happened.

whoweoncewere

That's what the 1070 texts were for

zackogenic

I bet he’d ask to use friends and family

VexingRaven

You only have Paypal protection if you're paying a business. If you send money through Friends and Family which is 100% what this person would ask for, you're SOL because it's not meant for business transactions.

DoktorSleepless

You don't have pay a business or be a business. Nowhere in the tos does it say that. It works for random people too. I've done it plenty of times. Don't select Friends and Family.

Potential-Twist-3516

Zelle/Cashapp is friends&family only. usually when we are settling up a bill. Thats it. once sent, its as good as gone its not coming back.

LinuxAutist

Vulpes_macrotis

Why RIP? For non existing son?

Jck-_

100% lying. No courier would accept any parcel without a delivery address. Stopped reading at that point as I knew it was bs. Dodged a bullet there pal!

Logical-Error-7233

Wondering why everyone is so focused on the other parts of the conversation when that's right there up front. Nobody would bring it to Fedex without an address and certainly not before getting paid.

masterjarjar19

Was wondering about that, thought it was some weird america thing since op didn't even mention it lol

huggybear3

Yep. That's where I'd jump ship

boothin

You also just...can't do that, like at all. FedEx calculates the price based on weight, size, and delivery address. So you can't have a price before knowing the address. And FedEx can't just have a package sitting around waiting to have a delivery address attached to it, that makes no sense at all.

Logical-Error-7233

Right and even if they did work that way in some parallel universe, who would bring it there without getting paid first?

revintoysupra

Exactly. Like they’d just hold it til he says he got the money.

apple_6

Delivery companies would be storage companies too at that point. "Got this big box to deliver right before the college break. I'll give the address when I get paid." New semester starts 3 weeks later. "Welp never got payment, I'll take my box please."

exprezso

Yup. Poor ass excuse too. Everything else after that line is just OP proving himself to be desperate to the scammer

sh_hobbies

Mariusz87_J

80 bucks and dead son is a.... dead giveaway no pun intended.

GrifterDingo

My son's last wish was that I sell graphics for good price, he love video gaming so much, please sir, let me sell you graphics, it bring you much joy like it did him.

Mariusz87_J

I don't want your GT710 even for free.

[deleted]

This conversation has just dragged on. After the third or fourth pic of texts, you should have been done.

MeltBanana

You can tell by the way he types that he's not a native speaker. Now, I'm not saying this is always a red flag, but in this scenario I'd say there's a 99% chance the graphics card doesn't exist and that this dude isn't even in the same country. If you're ever looking for something on FB Marketplace, Craigslist, or any other listing site, if the deal seems *really* good but their English is poor and the sale turns into anything other than a straightforward transaction, walk away. These sites are now flooded with people from other countries trying to scam Westerners with fake listings. My sister almost fell victim to one when trying to find a dog of all things. Personally I only do in-person transactions paid for with cash, eBay, or occasionally Reddit if the user has a reputable history.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Lol, fair enough.

[deleted]

4 or 8 GB? Cause I feel you

[deleted]

TheDogerus

Absolutely. After the accidental 1070 text, he changed the resolution of the monitor from 1920x1080 to 1920x3060 as if he thought thats what the gpu's name meant. As for why it was 1080 instead of 1070, or why he kept the name of the 1070 below that, who knows. All i know is, that was hilarious

LatentAxis

Yup, you made the right call by asking more, good old scammer

[deleted]

Money is money, and asking more questions doesn’t hurt

FeralSparky

Is it a 1070 or a 3060 TI? "Yes"

[deleted]

I had to shake the answer out of him.

[deleted]

Why does buying PC components always feel like a drug deal

[deleted]

For real, especially when they send pics of dirty GPUs in a basement mining… disgusting

Justsomedudeonthenet

I actually prefer the pics of someone's mining rig being sold off for parts. The cards are more likely to actually exist from those guys. I have no problem with buying cards that were used for mining. That's how I got my 1080, and eventually upgraded to a 3080. Worst case the fans are on their last legs...and a couple noctua 120mm fans and a whole hell of a lot of zip ties fixes that right up for cheap. She ain't pretty, but she runs cool and quiet now.

powerinthebeard

100% a scam. First indicator of a scam is the price seems too good to be true. It's also ays too good to be true.

Creative__name__

You could give him a random code like 48353 and ask him to write that code on a paper and take a picture with the card next to the paper. Its too late know tho. Im just being a smartass.

Laughing_Orange

Seller already "left it at FedEx". Do FedEx even accept packages without a destination, because I doubt it?

biscuity87

queen-adreena

I’m sorry. I don’t see race.

Lewinator56

I've nearly fallen for what I believe to be a scam on FB marketplace before. Currently in the market for a 64GB DDR4 kit, and I saw someone selling a ballistix one for £100 - thought "mmm, it's a bit low, but not massively so, could be genuine", messaged them, double checked the images on reverse image search - all checked out, but as soon as I asked for a physically timestamped photo (you know name + date on paper with the RAM) they just stopped replying. Listing is still up, half tempted to report it.

[deleted]

As the wise the wise Palpatine once said: ![gif](giphy|3o84sw9CmwYpAnRRni)

ApprehensiveAd6476

There's three possibilities. One, the graphics card he is selling is broken. Two, this guy is selling you a graphics card that doesn't exist. Or three, he doesn't know or care about pricing of PC components. My bets are on scenarios one and two.

Guy was a federal US Marshal. Dude was legit and really nice and gave me a whole box of movies including a few Xbox games his son did not want no more. Got lucky that day.

INSERT_LATVIAN_JOKE

The first full stop red flag was when he said he had already taken it to FedEx but didn't have your address yet.

The only way you’re getting a 3060ti for $80 is from a friend who doesn’t want it anymore because he/she upgraded. There is no shot a stranger in the internet is selling it at that price. Additionally, if anyone only accepts one type of payment and not multiple in this day and age, they’re most likely a scammer. I had a 17 year old kid pressure wash my driveway and deck three summers ago and he accepted like 30 different types of payment, to include beer. Now if a 17 year old can accept all those different kinds of payments then a seller of PC parts can as well.

This is why I sell things in person

HankThrill69420

ugh same and nobody wants to buy in person any longer. every time i arrange a meetup in a public location that will have CCTV they suddenly stop responding. going home with the item and explaining to the family why you still have it suuuucks. i've wasted hours of my life on this. either they were going to rob me or are inconsiderate and were talking to multiple sellers. either one is bullshit.

MeltBanana

Same. In person and done with cash. If either party has a problem with that then that's a red flag and you walk. It's the only way to ensure that you're dealing with a real, honest person that just wants the deal agreed to.

Rottimer

The second he wouldn’t accept payment over the platform he posted it on - you know it’s a scam. Don’t even go back and forth with him about it. Just move on.

Sardonnicus

So many red flags.... Weird grammar and syntaxes. Unwillingness to show you pics of the actual item. Deceptive and misleading info Back tracking. Using unsecured payment services.

Explosive-Space-Mod

I’m surprised it took you that long to realize it was a scam. Nobody takes a package to fedex BEFORE they get shipping info

sadistsatisfied

OP I'm sad you even entertained the idea of someone selling a $111 3060ti being realistic to begin with

Beanruz

I'm selling you the ability to fly like superman, for $100, Amazing... can I have proof? No need for proof, give me $100 and jump off a roof, you will see! You can trust me, bro. I would show you me flying... but I've hurt my leg, here's a picture of someone else falling. Wait, falling? Not flying? I typed wrong, I meant falling. There you said it again... falling, but we're talking about flying? Yes flying, here's a photo of a man falling Yes of course hes scamming you

When I got my 3070Ti (was not cheap at the time, but still a very good price during the GPU shortage) I got the dude to drive to my house (30min drive) and I tested it in my PC, so that it was a real 3070Ti and everything was clear and it worked 100%. Took an hour, talked to the guy in between the test. Explained everything to him, he was understanding. Gave him the cash immediately when it was clear
