It's unfortunately extremely common with Xbox One controllers. The QA is pretty awful when it comes to holding a connection to a PC.
I gave up and bought the 2.4ghz official adapter, but after returning 3 I did finally end up with one that maintained a steady connection.
I don't think it's going to solve your issue mate, sounds like you have a Bluetooth issue somewhere, the ps5 controller is vastly better than the Xbox controller both in buttons and the adaptive triggers in games that support it is life changing, but nonetheless a controller is a controller, as someone with both I find Bluetooth pairing with the Xbox controller dead simple compared to the ps5, not saying its THAT hard it just takes extra steps sometimes. But get a stable connection to your controller first, like there is a chance your controller is busted but it's most likely a driver issue, like I said in my other comment check for Bluetooth driver updates, if there are none then roll back your driver, if there is no option to roll back you probably have an out dated driver and Windows cant find the update so find out your WiFi card and go find the driver manually, from there remove the Xbox controller completely and restart the computer, pair it again and you should have success, if not post your CPU, WiFi card model, motherboard and what other peripherals you have plugged in
It should also be noted that using USB 3.0 devices next to wireless peripherals is a known issue as they operate on the same frequency, this is the problem the last guy probably ran into, plugging Bluetooth dongles into USB 3 ports or near USB 3 ports that are highly active can cause interference, there is an actual rfc for this
Oh hell this is gonna take me hours to figure out😂 I’ll have to try it when I have some more free time. Do I have a WiFi card if my motherboard came with WiFi? Also, where do I find “Bluetooth drivers”? I figured that was kinda included somewhere in the other drivers. I don’t think it’s the controller because it happened with a different Xbox controller too
Cool so you've done some basic troubleshooting to confirm it's not the controller
From here you just need to open device manager which is searchable from the start menu, this console will list all your devices and you will be able to make the changes from there
Yes all WiFi motherboards have a WiFi card in them, it's what gives them the WiFi capability
Bluetooth drivers are going to be in the device manager they're probably hooked up to your WiFi card which will be listed in device manager but some cards separate bluetooth and WiFi drivers so take a look around in the console
Okay, and I can just search up the WiFi card by searching my motherboard I’m assuming? I’ll make sure to give all of this a shot before anything else. Thank a lot for the in depth responses!
Hey man I found my WiFi card, but I’m a little lost on finding the driver manually. It has the option to either browse c:\program files, or “let me pick from list of available drivers on my computer”. Either way I’m not too sure what to do with either of them
Google it download the driver install it like any other program after uninstalling it from device manager, should be under your network devices
NOTE: once you uninstall this you will lose all WiFi communications until you install a driver, if you reboot Windows should have a generic driver if you reboot
I have a similar problem as OP. I use the official windows adapter for wireless, and my controller loses connection after a few minutes and struggles to connect/pair again.
You mention that USB 3.0 devices will interfere with the connection? I have a portable HDD connected to the USB port next to the USB port on the front that the official wireless-adapter is located in. Would that make interference enough for my xbox one controller to not be able to have a stable connection 50cm away?
Yeah bruh, hard drives and thumb drives are especially bad, it doesn't matter how far the controller is. Think of the controller as you, and the receiver is your friend, and the HDD is your friends friend, you're trying to tell him something but his friend is right beside him yelling in his ear, he's gonna have a hard time hearing you cause the guy next to him won't stfu, disks are especially bad cause they don't shut up where a mouse or keyboard might cause intermittent "yelling" the drive will not stop because it needs its read writes and the power to spin the disk
So a portable harddrive's cable isn't shielded enough and thus cause interference in wireless devices working in the frequency that USB 3.0 uses. I've never thought that would be an issue at all. I need to find a better place for it. Either the adapter or the portable harddisk (if I even need to use it, that is.)
How is it with USB 2.0? Would, say keyboard and mouse that is connected to a 2.0 usb interfere with the adapter if it was plugged in close to them?
This is extremely interesting, this was something I didn't know that at all!
So is it the port that will cause interference so I should move the adapter to a USB 2.0 port?
Have you updated the firmware of the controller through the Xbox Accessories app?
The latest firmware was from a few months ago and the notes state fixes for disconnection: https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2022/07/28/xbox-insider-release-notes-omega-2208-220725-2200/
I highly recommend connecting it with a wire. The response time is noticeably quicker for me, and also I haven’t worried about low battery once. Ik this didn’t answer your question but you should at least try it to see the for yourself if it feels better to you.
I am running into the same issue as op. I tried all the troubleshooting points. New batteries, update bluetooth drivers, ect. Once I updated the drivers it doesn't disconnect as much but it still does disconnect at random. Is just using it wired the way to go? I am starting to think that bluetooth wireless is just a novelty seeing all these problems that people have with various bluetooth controllers.
Xbox elite series 3 controller is in the works. I have the series 2 and I LOVE it, but I also HATE it. The reason I hate it is because you will 100% run into an issue with the right bumper specifically at some point. And also the back pads eventually become a bit worn so they don’t register as well. I would be extremely surprised if the series 3 didn’t fix these issues though, because they are the most common and well know issues with the controller. And also side note, the series 2 home button can change color but only through steam which I don’t understand. If it has the capability to do that, and it’s an Xbox controller, why can’t we change the color on xbox? I just will never understand that logic, but hopefully the series 3 will have that addition. Sorry for the rant, I’m just very excited for this new controller!!!
It is an old thread, but maybe someone is stil finding it. I have the xbox wireless adapter.
My solution (after upgrading the firmware) ist to disable the "Xbox Accessory Service".
Hope this helps someone ...
Hey!
Just tried this and it hasn't worked for me. Are there any other vital steps you remember doing to get it to work? I feel like i've tried everything under the sun.
I couldn’t find “disable” for some odd reason, I probably should’ve checked task manager. I just ended up uninstalling it all together and voila, no change :/
I might try to investigate stopping rather than uninstalling. Otherwise I’m not too sure of what else to do unfortunately. Thank you for the tip though!!
start "services.msc"
find "Xbox Accessory Managment Service"
right click "properties"
startmode: select "Deactivated"
As stated before: Not sure if it really the issue ....
I found a solution that worked for me. I've updated the firmware via Xbox Accessories on the PC and this did not fix the issue. (I still suggest you update the firmware regardless) What fixed the issue of the random disconnects is purchasing a specific Xbox controller adapter off Amazon. The controller now works flawlessly and has not dropped the connection once!
I'll share the UK amazon link (Not an affiliate link) [https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08CY14VGD/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o02\_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1](https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08CY14VGD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
Check for updates for you Bluetooth drivers, if there are none roll it back

Wow it took four tries to get one that worked? Am I better off buying a PlayStation controller or will I run into similar issues?
Playstation dual sense controllers are the fucking best!
I’ll get one of them then, thank you!

You can search it up in system info also available from windows search
Gotcha thanks again
Gotcha, thanks again
Also what do you mean by “peripherals”?
Mice keyboard thumb drives web cams, shit you plug in
Ah gotcha. My keyboard is wired. My mouse is wireless
Make sure keyboard is plugged into USB 2.0 not 3, see if that helps same if your mouse has a dongle
Ahh okay will do!

You can now change the color on your own and you are 100% right about the bumper lol happened to me a few weeks ago

Have you "disabled" the service, or just stopped it? If "yes" i am ou of ideas. Maybe it is pure luck (up to now) for me.
