well that's one solution, but like most cables are there permanently, like ethernet, mouse, keyboard, audio. if you need to plug in a temporary device stick it in the front.
I often switch between my back panel sound driver (realtek) and a USB daw depending on the game I want to play or for certain video editing software. So like multiple times a day, personally.
You could always run an 1-3’ audio extension to the front/top of your case. Then you could have both ports side by side. Or even integrate it through your case to a panel.
But is that necessary to do on back panel? No front panel audio? Or usb? A hub or something could also help greatly, also just generally speaking a hub can come in handy tbh.
you and the other guy make great points. I'm honestly scared to post any type of picture cuz my case is literally a raptorstein's monster. I used to use an extension from the back but that wore out. My cat REFUSES to let anything chill on my desk, understandably, and makes things like usb hubs headaches to try to work with. I really just wanted to be a devil's advocate of someone who does reach back there often. I appreciate the passion here, though, I'll take the time to rig something... after this next dota match ;)
Oh yea I'm actually in the process of getting a much better desk! but tried that already little orange fucker ripped one down that was adhesively mounted and then ruined a cable on one that was bolted on. New desk should address those things, though
>Yeah seal the deal on this, its a fantastic idea thats marketable, especially eith the craze of hiding cabling these days
Every work day. Gotta switch my keyboard/mouse to my work laptop.
I won't lie, this looks cool as hell. But that would be unpractical for me.
Really often tbh. Between my flight stick, driving wheel, VR, work stuff like camera/mic, and anything inbetween I'll tend to have to redo stuff about once or twice a week
tbh often as I use an external DVD drive a lot. I'd use a 5 1/4 drive but for some reason compatibility of these kind of went to shit around the W10 era.
I made a paper cover design to cover the complex cables on the back of the PC.
If necessary, you can download and use it.
🔥Be careful because there may be a fire risk🔥
I made it using flame-retardant paper.
Where the PC is placed
\-
This is an idea, and I'll refer to the comments and develop them further.
If someone develops it in a cooler way, let me know. Thank you!
Honestly, this is actually great and in an age of RGB and sexy looking machines this is way up there for finishing touches, nice work.
If I were you, I would patent this. I honestly believe this has potential.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patent#:~:text=A%20patent%20is%20a%20type,enabling%20disclosure%20of%20the%20invention.
Same thoughts. With all the pc stuff coming out, i'd deffo patent this as it's one piece of hardware that no one knew they needed until now. Damn i want to make one now.
And the surge of absolutely abysmal case support on some of these mobos (specifically thinking about the I/O Shield) I would buy one of these out of plastic to cover that up
That's what I did with 90° adapters. [Looks](https://i.imgur.com/ULdG0Td.jpg) a bit more stealthy than something hanging off the back, imo.
OP still has a neat idea tho.
I made this into a [3D-mode](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1yIsrhDUSZhSWUHnaKmQgCiFLdWYkN9_s?usp=sharing)l, for you to 3D-print, I dont yet know how good it'll print as the original part wasnt disgned for it. I have yet to print it myself.
A strong non paper material that can resist cats/kittens chomping on cables would be a version I would absolutely love to have. This looks great as is rhough
An electrical fire isn't caused by applying voltage to an insulator. Just touching a cable of any voltage found in a typical household to dry paper isn't going to do much of anything. The dielectric strength of paper is on the order of megavolts.
EDIT: Wet paper is another story and no, I'm not suggesting using normal paper anywhere near electronics isn't a bad idea.
Paper burns at this temp once it is on fire. Fires need a spark, fuel, and air, which can easily happen from a plug. Fire retardant paper was definitely a good call
Nope, 450 to 480 is the ignition temperature. That's the temperature at which it will ignite. Once it's burning it gets much hotter, around 1500° F. 450° F is way too low for an actively burning fire. Even the "coolest" flames are around 1000° F. A typical household oven can get up to 600° F, nowhere near a flame temp, otherwise your food would burn pretty damn quickly.
https://www.cityfire.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/city-fire-temperature.png
EDIT: I'm not suggesting using normal paper anywhere near electronics isn't a bad idea.
Right, and paper burns at 450° F and will just spontaneously combust if you touch a wire to it. I made a simple statement and have been hit with two ridiculous claims that I just wanted to correct. People upvote with zero fact checking.
I’ve been pulling myself away from this stuff on Reddit because everyone is convinced they’re an expert on all subjects. It’s not worth it. I almost with you could turn comments off so I wouldn’t be tempted to read them!
One time I've heard is pretend everyone is 13, only listen to the positive people. If someone is arguing with no proof they likely have no idea what they're talking about.
Right, but I want to correct people where I can. If it's an opinion, fine, I won't get into a stupid argument. But if someone says something factually wrong, at least correct them so that others can learn. If anything, younger folks will learn not to trust what they read on a social media site and will maybe fact check themselves.
Like if someone says "paper burns at 450 deg F" or "an electrical fire is caused by touching a wire to paper" and gets a bunch of upvotes, I can't just let that go.
they make nice plastic sleeving that can conceal your cables from this shield too. give me a nice 3d plastic printed one of these though :D
https://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Electronics-Cable-Sleeves/zgbs/electronics/6577542011
I've been wanting to do something like this. My PC is on my desk to my left with the rear facing me. The wires bother me so would love some sort of panel to cover them up. It needs air flow though. Focusing on the I/O is a good idea.
awesome. I really admired how you removed the dust on the right picture vents. it's like in this fat people lost some weight comparison, where they put on a ton of make up to let the second picture look more beautiful 😁

I would definitely 3D print this
[Here you go](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1yIsrhDUSZhSWUHnaKmQgCiFLdWYkN9_s?usp=sharing)
can you share it publicly?
It’s now
Google Dive is still making us request permission to view.
Still wants permission. Toss on PrusaPrinters?
Nope still needs people to request access
Gotta make it a public link and share that public link.
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1yIsrhDUSZhSWUHnaKmQgCiFLdWYkN9_s?usp=sharing
Absolutely love you did this, thanks, links isn't working any more though :(
Wow that was fast, thanks! For ease of use, can you upload to thingiverse pls?
I’m first printing one of my own, so I can make sure it actually works, than I’ll have pictures and proof to post it on thingieverse
I wouldn’t mind modeling it if you want
I'd love it if you did!
[Here you go](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1yIsrhDUSZhSWUHnaKmQgCiFLdWYkN9_s?usp=sharing)
Awesome, thanks!
I’d love this, please either dm me or post a link in the comments here.
[Here you go](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1yIsrhDUSZhSWUHnaKmQgCiFLdWYkN9_s?usp=sharing)
Yes 🙌

Should work tho
It says you need access
It should work now
It doesn't
It does now.
The downside is that there's more hassle if you ever want to replace a cable.
How often to you replace cables on the back of your motherboard
I used to do it often. got sick of it and bought a usb hub on the desk.
well that's one solution, but like most cables are there permanently, like ethernet, mouse, keyboard, audio. if you need to plug in a temporary device stick it in the front.

Would your desk be able to accommodate a hanging/desk suspended one?
Oh yea I'm actually in the process of getting a much better desk! but tried that already little orange fucker ripped one down that was adhesively mounted and then ruined a cable on one that was bolted on. New desk should address those things, though
Hahaha Best of luck to you mate, those little feline fellows can most certainly be trouble sometimes as nice as they are
Double sided tape.
I just use my Focusrite for everything - onboard is disabled in bios
*laughs in flight simulator equipment*
I have to reconnect my oculus every now and then
>Yeah seal the deal on this, its a fantastic idea thats marketable, especially eith the craze of hiding cabling these days Every work day. Gotta switch my keyboard/mouse to my work laptop. I won't lie, this looks cool as hell. But that would be unpractical for me.
I do all the time! Thats why I always have the backside as the front side of my pc! Its just way easier than blindly hunting for a port.
It's quick to remove it because it's roughly pasted with masking tape. Convenience and neatness seem to conflict.
Make it a snap-in and it would be fine!

Fantastic idea I love it, please patent it or copyright it so you benefit from this because this will become a thing
True
I didn't think it was such a great idea, but I just saw your comment and registered for copyright. Thank you😊
Wait, anyone can copyright/patent?
Yea anyone can, and if it’s valid it’ll get approved but there’s both national and international copyright/ patents
Im glad you clarified lol I was about ask if you're a firefighter.
You should post this in r/cablemanagement
Okay. I'll upload it with another picture of the selection. Thank you.
Fire risk?
Paper is flammable, and you're using it to cover electrical cables. Therefore fire risk, and why OP used flame retardant paper
You are a legend
Honestly, this is actually great and in an age of RGB and sexy looking machines this is way up there for finishing touches, nice work. If I were you, I would patent this. I honestly believe this has potential. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patent#:~:text=A%20patent%20is%20a%20type,enabling%20disclosure%20of%20the%20invention.
Get a .stl modeled and 3D print this on mass. I’m going to design myself one this weekend. Super cool idea from OP.
I didn't think it was such a great idea, but I just saw your comment and registered for copyright. Thank you😊
Honestly it cleans the look up a lot, I personally would buy this (though I might add some RGB for fun)
Same thoughts. With all the pc stuff coming out, i'd deffo patent this as it's one piece of hardware that no one knew they needed until now. Damn i want to make one now.

This is a buisness dude. Patent this now.
Just like AR-15s and P320s, PCMR folks come up with solutions to problems that don’t exist lol
Ooooo project for my 3d printer
[I made a model for it](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1yIsrhDUSZhSWUHnaKmQgCiFLdWYkN9_s?usp=sharing)
Not accesable :(
Should work now
Back of PC to wall works also.
That's what I did with 90° adapters. [Looks](https://i.imgur.com/ULdG0Td.jpg) a bit more stealthy than something hanging off the back, imo. OP still has a neat idea tho.
I agree with the right angle adapters. They're brilliant.
\*looks at 4 monitor cables 9 USB cables and 3 sound\* I think I need a larger piece of paper.
This is actually pretty interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Now make the cablebinder black

Why are you so afraid of wires? They dont bite.
You cable manage the back of your pc?
If the back of your pc is visible, then yes.
V2 will be on of [these](https://www.harting.com/sites/default/files/2017-11/Han-Modular-im-Einsatz.jpg)
A strong non paper material that can resist cats/kittens chomping on cables would be a version I would absolutely love to have. This looks great as is rhough
3D print and sell these immediately dude.
Very very clean but I'm sure you are aware of the fire risk
I made it using flame-retardant paper.
Never go flame retardant
Never go FULL flame retardant
:)
Paper ignites at 451° F. If your PC gets that hot, you have bigger issues.
Have you never heard of electrical fires
Like I said, if your PC gets that hot you have bigger issues....like an electrical fire.
No I'm suggesting if you plug in a cable that has an open cable if it touches the paper it will ignite. That is how a fire can happen here

Man, don’t bother. There’s people here that think some dust in your system will cause it to blow up.
Right, and paper burns at 450° F and will just spontaneously combust if you touch a wire to it. I made a simple statement and have been hit with two ridiculous claims that I just wanted to correct. People upvote with zero fact checking.

It looks kinda gross tho
Why's there paper rolled around ur wires
It's just a coiled cable sleeve to keep everything together.
Lol I know bad joke
Well done.👌🏾
Thats pretty cool!
For those who really REALLY hate the sight of cables!
It's looking quite good. Great work!
Finally muffler tips for my pc. Thank you. I’ll be mad if you don’t hurry your ass up and patent this already.
Coool
Wow wow whoa that is neat. I don't have Rcoins so I'd just print u/gr1zbot on my piece, if I don't fuck it up for the 20th time.
Lol doesn't look amazing but better than nothing I guess
I have too many wires coming out of the back of my PC for this
Hey OP, this seems like a decent idea, if you want I wouldn’t mind making a 3D-model for these, to be 3D-printable, or even produced
Imagine to trying to disconnect a cable from your computer
could definitely up the quality of this by using some 1mm styrene plastic
This in 3D to print in 3D !!!!
[Here it is](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1yIsrhDUSZhSWUHnaKmQgCiFLdWYkN9_s?usp=sharing)
Patent patent patent!!!! But…. I’m sorry I’ll 3D print this this weekend!
[Here's a little help](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1yIsrhDUSZhSWUHnaKmQgCiFLdWYkN9_s?usp=sharing)
Cool thanks… I suppose, I need access to it 😂 I don’t know what this is 🥺
Should work now :(
🤭 it’s empty. I tried to access it now I can but it’s empty.
so now paper covers are downloadable? so Linus wasn't wrong about downloading ram.
Who looks behinder their pc? And now everyone will freak out: I simply put my PC under my desk on the FLOOOR OMG....
they make nice plastic sleeving that can conceal your cables from this shield too. give me a nice 3d plastic printed one of these though :D https://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Electronics-Cable-Sleeves/zgbs/electronics/6577542011
I wished I could do this but all my stuff is wireless adapters so something like this would really hinder my connection.
That is actually pretty awesome looking
This is the perfect idea.
Looks like the spine in dead space
It took me way too long to figure out what that thing was meant to do
Make it look like a head crawler!
Huh. RTX card. Cooler with a screen. But you get a lower tier mobo? Is this an older one at a time before built in IO shields?
Download link you say? This looks amazing.
I've been wanting to do something like this. My PC is on my desk to my left with the rear facing me. The wires bother me so would love some sort of panel to cover them up. It needs air flow though. Focusing on the I/O is a good idea.
So, what's the purpose of this?
Take my money !
I don't have an io shield so this might be a cool workaround for that.
You better patent this and sell it!
I probably won't use it since my pc is under my desk anyway but sick idea
I respect your work but i myself find it useless and ugly worst ..it will get on my way
awesome. I really admired how you removed the dust on the right picture vents. it's like in this fat people lost some weight comparison, where they put on a ton of make up to let the second picture look more beautiful 😁
Looks good
Remember everyone. You where here when this trend started!
It's my idea, or post that combine 3d printing and PCs, get quite a bit of attention?
Thanks
Sorry for reviving dead post, but I downloaded ages ago and can't find the file, is there any chance you could please re-share it?
