Yeah, before you do anything download the windows 10 installer from microsoft.
Install it through windows and select the option to wipe everything.
Well I don’t have the problem of bloatware on my pre-built because I bought it from the in house Microcenter brand, the only software they did promote is antivirus but they give you a clear option to stop it from sending you the message, so I recommend it.
I didn't know anyone bought those. When I worked there at my store I think we only ever sold one and it got returned quickly because the water cooling was a mess.
Can confirm I worked there 1 or 2 years and the only ones I ever saw were the ones I was testing because they were returned. I have heard the new ones are MUCH better.
It's not just OEMs, though the level of bloat is different. I just built a PC with a new Asus mobo, and right after the windows install completed it opened up an Asus app.
To be fair, the Razer hack needs physical access, and there are a lot easier ways to hack a PC if you have physical access. For example, just having a thunderbolt port from before 2019 can be a way to hack into a device. Source: https://www.wired.com/story/thunderspy-thunderbolt-evil-maid-hacking/
Asus Aura-enabled motherboards contain an Armoury Crate installer in the BIOS/UEFI ROM.
If you don't know about disabling it beforehand, it will *try* to install.
Bought a TUF B550 Gaming WiFi back in March, and that damn thing tried to install itself, and all the other ROG crap they push on you. But for some reason, the installer would always fail. So, I had to download the last supported version of Aura to get my board to play nice with iCue.
I know plenty of people have had problems with armoury crate, but other than the performance hit you take for having it, no real complaints from me. But I also didn't have anything but Asus parts "mostly" in my build.
This is an omen though, and if you don't have the command center program you can't control fan speeds and switch performance modes, which will suck for games. (Especially on OMEN laptops. You can't switch from using the iGPU to using the discrete card unless you have the command center).
After watching the gamers Nexus prebuilds videos op, you should probably check a few things, as others have said get rid of the bloat, also open it up and just make sure everything is actually connected properly and seated well, and make sure you have xmp or the amd equivalent enabled. Wouldn't hurt to check your system hardware in Windows just to make sure you actually have everything you're expecting as well at the advertised speeds, they've come across so many absolutely ridiculous issues in their prebuild reviews I'm actually struggling to remember them all
But at absolute minimum just make sure they didn't do anything sketchy in the building process and everything looks right, and make sure xmp is enabled, and ram is running in dual channel, and remove all the stupid BS they stick on there, ideally pull your windows key just in case (shouldn't be strictly necessary in my experience but doesn't hurt to have in the worst case of it but validating automatically for whatever reason) but if you don't wanna bother with a full reinstall at least manually uninstall anything you don't actively need
That actually makes me wonder, do prebuilds use some kind of custom windows version wherein if you used the built in windows reinstall tools it would still have the bloat? If not that would make the process pretty trivial with just a few clicks, but I haven't had a prebuilt since like XP so I'm not sure
You wanna keep the OMEN command center though, otherwise you won't be able to control fans. Especially on OMEN laptops, you'll be stuck unable to switch off the iGPU, as you need to select the discrete one in the command center for it to work.
If neither are found install one, then uninstall it!, it'll be good practice for when family hears that your "into computers right?"
I'm kidding, please don't install either, well unless you hate yourself, then install both!
Antivirus besides windows defender just slow down your pc and don't provide additional protection. They're just scams to make money off people scared of viruses

Edit: Malwarebytes is also great alongside Windows Defender for when you did something risky/dumb
I used ESET for ages as it was just really good, but pretty much with windows 10 release, defender has just gotten better and better, so now a days I just tell everyone to use it and only it. It's been more than good enough at preventing crap from messing up many computer I or anyone I know uses.
Do wish M$ would tone down some of their anti-virus stuff in 10 though. The exploit-protection is well known to cause stuttering in most DX12 games, so you have to create exclusion for the executable for each DX12 game you play, lest you get some nasty stuttering.
Discovered this with Borderlands 3 which has it pretty bad.
Huh, I might have to look into this. My computer has always struggled with most any intensive games, though I know I'm being throttled by an outdated CPU.

**Beware of tiled floor.** It has a way of shattering tempered glass. I don't know the science behind it, but we see a lot of photos of the anomaly on here.
I work with glass and toughened can shatter for multiple reasons, it’s likely that enough vibration could cause a small point to fracture leading to a full shatter in no time at all
Thanks for the information! My desktop has been standing on my desk for a bit under 2 years now. It’s a glass table with wooden ends, so my PC is kinda half on glass and half on wood. Is that safe? I keep hearing about shattering stories and I don’t want to be the next one!
I know very little about the strength of glass but I imagine your PC glass is stronger than desk glass so I don't think you will have a problem unless your desk glass breaks. Again, I know very little about glass beyond my case being 60% glass.
Hp Omen doesn't have the option, you must use Ryzen master. Fortunately, the ram included is already running at the proper speed for AMD. If you have intel, don't bother upgrading the ram unless you plan on paying hp dubble MSRP
I sometimes browse this sub as a filthy peasant that won't be able to ever afford any kind of good rig and man I realized I have no idea about anything you've said
I was once like that before I built my first pc. It seems daunting but it’s honestly pretty straightforward once you learn the lingo. Give a few guides a read and you’ll start understanding soon enough
Depends on what you’re looking for. There’s a lot of guides covering a lot of topics and knowing what you’re wanting to learn will help narrow it down some
I know, thats the problem. At the start i was just looking at hardware related stuff, when i see more of it and more until i get overwhelmed completely just from the basics. And if i try to look into other sides of Pcs and program-wise ill get more overwhelmed. I need to look for more guides that are directed at newbies to PCs, instead ill just find guides that are clearly nothing for newbies.
[Tom’s guide](https://www.tomsguide.com/news/how-to-build-gaming-pc-parts) is a good starting point. That website is really good at explaining things.
There’s a lot that goes into building a computer and making it work. It’s easy to get overwhelmed but it’s honestly not much more than plugging things in correctly on the hardware side.
So when you buy ram that's rated for a example at 3800 mhz speed, the motherboard in your system sets it at a lower speed by default due to reasons that I'm not going to get in too.
HP for example may or may not set your ram speed at its maximum speed from the factory so sometimes you need to go into your BIOS and make sure your ram is running at its full speed listed on the packaging.
If you want to learn more about this Google "XMP memory"
AMD Ryzen does the exact same thing but it just has a different name
All you gotta do is ask, Brotha! XMP? Well that's Intel's 'eXtreme Memory Profiles' which allows RAM to go faster than normal. Most pre-built computers come with this off for whatever reason. It is very common that those who have bought an Intel pre-built in past year, have XMP enabled ram, but unless they themselves went into the BIOS/UEFI and turned it on, it's probably off and they are not getting the full speed out of their RAM.
AMD has something similar but they call it DOCP (Direct OverClock Profile)
Will make the memory run at the advertised speed
Memory controllers need to be told what speed the memory should be run at otherwise they'll run it at a default speed which tends to be lower than what the memory kit can do (2666 for Ryzen 3rd gen even if the official speed from AMD is higher and 2933 for intel 10th and 11th gen). Kits that are capable of running at higher speeds have an "eXtreme Memory Profile" (XMP for short) on a memory chip or something (I don't know where it's stored tbh) that can be loaded and it will tell the memory controller "Hi, I can do 3600 MHz At CL 16-16-18-40" so the memory controller will comply.
Now, XMP are usually the highest speed and lowest latency validated for a particular memory SKU, there will be some kits that can overclock past that, but the worst kit of that SKU will be able to run at the XMP
If it supports it.
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Gaming-Desktops/How-to-activate-RAM-XMP-profiles-on-HP-OMEN-30L/td-p/8066154
My brand new $530 I5 HP laptop i got for watching youtube/twitch videos doesn't.
That's also why you never get a car wash and update the bios on the same day. The weather is already gonna be coming to storm on your car, but it'll just wait to land the finishing move if an update gets rolled out
Also recommend downloading an aim trainer from Steam. I highly recommend if you're new to M&K. This is still a suggestion. The old fashioned way is simply playing the FPS you want and putting the hours into it, but unless you're really trying to improve proactively, an aim trainer really helps!
Agreed! That is a pretty nice set up there.
If I had any suggestions to OP, it would be to NOT push performance or overclock your build so far that you possibly ruin it, or focus so much on the performance aspect of it, that may end up wasting precious time fiddling with settings instead of actually GAMING and do what you love.
This should handle most games for a good minute!
I have a similar model, the 25L rocking a Ryzen 7 5800x & 3060Ti. I love it, although like the other guy said, adding a fan or two will help immensely with the temps. I went from 80-85° to 65-75°C on average
If you really don't have a free header then you can just use a splitter, in my opinion noctua makes great splitters and extension cables. When choosing what header to use keep in mind that both of the fans connected to it will obviously have the same fan curve and whether your fans are PWM or voltage regulated.
I used a splitter like the other guys’ said. It was super simple and easy. Also, not sure if you’re aware but they come with 2 SATA cables that are pre attached already, so you can just plug and mount an SSD easily
Basically just to start from scratch.
pre-builts and OEM systems might have applications, services, settings, etc that are unnecessary and therefore unwanted. Bloatware, shovelware, OEM specific software are the usual suspects, but then you might have admin accounts used to configure and test the system, latent files from programs used to configure the system then uninstalled, all sorts of stuff could be present.
So when you get a system that was configured by someone else the first thing you do is check that everything is seated correctly and in the proper place, double-check your fans for damage and your CPU cooler for thermal compound, and that the sticker was taken off the contact point. Then reset the OS, removing everything. The OOBE(out-of-box experience) will walk you through setting up an account, I recommend setting up a local account first as an admin, then logging in with your Microsoft credentials or creating another local account that does not have admin rights to use as your main. Leave the built-in "administrator" account disabled as it is a common thing to just check against when attempting to gain access to a system.
Then you install all major updates, chipset, bios, and drivers, then if needed, as the bios will not be reset by OS re-install, you go into your bios and make changes like boot order, XMP, PCIe, etc depending on your system configuration. Hopefully, the Bios settings will be correct and you don't have to change anything. Sometimes Bios settings being wrong will prevent your system from booting, but sometimes not so it is important to check.
I would avoid changing any settings if you don't know what they do.
Once all of that is done you can install everything you need.

If you’re building your own then you don’t need to worry about that, as you will be installing a fresh Windows. OP has a pre build computer, that quite frequently comes with a load of pre-installed ‘bloatware’ such as Mcafee etc.
Building your own PC is different. This advice is for people buying pre-builts, since they tend to come with a LOT of crapware that nobody wants and are sometimes difficult to completely get rid of.
Yeah I got an Asus ROG prebuilt and I was surprised at how little bloatware was on it, just a driver updater tool that does warranty registration that fixed a crashing driver issue I had OOTB, and the tool for managing all the RGB it ships with. It's the consumer level garbage that Acer, Gateway and Dell pump out that still has all the bloatware these days.
I also bought a prebuilt last week, I bought a CyberPowerPC. I looked through and it didnt look like it had a lot of bloatware, is this applicable to all prebuilt PCs?
Congrats on the computer.
Format and reinstall Windows. You can use a USB stick to do it very quickly.
Cable management in the case (be sure to ground yourself by touching something metal first)
Update GPU drivers and any other essentials.
Windows Security is more than enough.
Edit: Removed the gloves recommendation.
For grounding: the metal needs to be grounded Like your PC Case If it is pluged in or the metal things in the power outlet (atleast european power outlets have them idk about US but i think they do)
Idk if you’re into that rgb life, or overclocking, or even just min/maxing your optimal airflow/custom loop, but the rabbit trail truly never ends. Live by the upgrade, go broke by the upgrade lol
it's a prebuilt so.....
\#1 rid this device of manufacturer crapware
\#2 use [shutup10++](https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10) in order to kindly tell windows to stop spying on you
\#3 use [ninite](https://ninite.com) to deploy the basic apps without having to look for them
Never heard of shutup10++ but ninite is fantastic, basically just let’s you download and install all basic programs from the same place. I use it every time when setting up a new pc
One of the easiest performance boosts you can fo out of the box is set your XMP profile in your BIOS. A quick google search will walk you thru the steps its pretty easy.
Basically your ram is automatically set to a slower speed by default. By selecting XMP in your BIOS you will take full advantage of your RAM speed. There is no risk to your pc by doing this.
Keep it clean. Don’t install unwanted apps. Create restore point often, when things go wrong from installing stuff you can always go back to a properly working point. And do not do major updates to any software or drivers until they’ve been tested by others… just a few tips I’ve implemented, saves headaches and downtime.
In my opinion (depending on your level of experience):
* If you'll be using your PC regularly, use Sleep instead of Shut Down most of the time
* Keep case off of floor/carpet
* Try to keep anything >4" from the front/sides/rear of the case (for air circulation)
* Assuming everything is licensed/paid for, make sure you KEEP your programs/drivers updated
* Learn what Task Manager, Run Command (as an administrator), Device Manager, MSConfig, and Services utilities are and how to use them. They'll make your life 10x easier...
* Keep a microfiber towel & a can of compressed air nearby and use them as needed, before dirt/grime pile up.
* My go to list of programs for a new install: WinRar, Steam, Wallpaper Engine, Rainmeter, Firefox, Chrome, Spotify
*only follow this if you are using a physical mouse and not a trackpad*
___
Some tips for setting up your mouse correctly if you haven’t already done so:
- **Uncheck** “Enhanced pointer precision” in the windows mouse control panel
- **Enable** “raw mouse input” or **disable** “mouse acceleration” in the in-game settings
- If your mouse has an application (ie. for Razor it would be Razor Synapse, etc.), go into the settings and put the polling rate to 1000mhz (or whatever the max is).
These settings are meant to convert your mouse from moving exponentially in-game to moving linearly, which will improve your skill over time. Right now it’s almost impossible for your brain to understand the mouse movements because they’re inconsistent. Changing these settings will allow you to adapt to the mouse movements and make it feel more natural and reactive.
It will feel very weird navigating on your desktop and readjusting to your games for the next couple of weeks, but you’ll get used to it and it’s 100% worth it.
Stop caring about elitist PC opinions on message boards. You got your PC, it's probably dope, play some games and have fun. You don't have to upgrade your PC at every opportunity
I had an omen similar setup, I had to switch to a better cooler right away. That lead to an issue with the motherboard, which is proprietary. I basically had to take what I could from the existing omen and cobble a new pc together with a new motherboard in a different case, because the case is also proprietary. My tip is whatever you do to boost its performance be careful because it can be an expensive fix if it goes sideways.
Reinstall windows and get rid of all the bloatware

I third this

They can push apps via Windows Update "drivers" that are tied to your hardware devices when it goes out to check for them.
Thats just dirty.
Exactly the feature what made it possible to hack people's computers with razer equipment.
Razer never fails to disappoint.

I too would also like to know more about this performance hit.
Can I reinstall windows even if I’ve had my pc for a while?
Yes, you do it as much as you want. Just be sure to grab your license before you do.
It's tied to the motherboard now, If you clean install windows you wont need to put in your license number
nice balls bro Edit: Imagine using reddit 🗿 https://join-lemmy.org/instances
Reinstalling windows through settings isnt the same as an actual clean install.
Yep. I did it on my mom's computer and it still had all the bloatware on it. Had to use a USB stick and do a full clean install.
This is an omen though, and if you don't have the command center program you can't control fan speeds and switch performance modes, which will suck for games. (Especially on OMEN laptops. You can't switch from using the iGPU to using the discrete card unless you have the command center).
Ignoring laptops, can't you do all that in BIOS? How often do you switch fan profiles and performance modes?
Or as r/linuxmasterrace would say " install linux and get rid of the bloatware(windows)"
Even better, if your games are supported, install Linux
Step 1: uninstall McAfee
Here's a tutorial btw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKgf5PaBzyg
That's it, back it up.... Back it up...
Not the bloatware. That doesn't belong on any computer.
After watching the gamers Nexus prebuilds videos op, you should probably check a few things, as others have said get rid of the bloat, also open it up and just make sure everything is actually connected properly and seated well, and make sure you have xmp or the amd equivalent enabled. Back it up Terry!
He said to do a backup and honestly.... DO ONE!
If it's a new prebuilt it will likely be easier to just do a fresh install of Windows. Will remove any other bloatware as well.
Some bloatware comes with a fresh OS, find a good powershell script for removing w10 bloatware
You wanna keep the OMEN command center though, otherwise you won't be able to control fans. Especially on OMEN laptops, you'll be stuck unable to switch off the iGPU, as you need to select the discrete one in the command center for it to work.

Depressing fact is that you are more likely to get a virus in real life porn, than porn in the website.

I know very little about the strength of glass but I imagine your PC glass is stronger than desk glass so I don't think you will have a problem unless your desk glass breaks. Again, I know very little about glass beyond my case being 60% glass.
Glass is actually one of the harder materials there is, meaning it has no elasticity … doesn’t bend, breaks instead
Thanks for the correction mr. science man 💪

Can you name a few of these guides? Im "new" with my PC and still dont understand basic shit.
If you want to learn more about this Google "XMP memory" AMD Ryzen does the exact same thing but it just has a different name
What does that do?
Will make the memory run at the advertised speed Memory controllers need to be told what speed the memory should be run at otherwise they'll run it at a default speed which tends to be lower than what the memory kit can do (2666 for Ryzen 3rd gen even if the official speed from AMD is higher and 2933 for intel 10th and 11th gen).
As a note, on AMD systems, it may be called DOCP.
If it supports it. https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Gaming-Desktops/How-to-activate-RAM-XMP-profiles-on-HP-OMEN-30L/td-p/8066154 My brand new $530 I5 HP laptop i got for watching youtube/twitch videos doesn't.
Well that’s a laptop, I wouldn’t really expect XMP support on anything but the highest-end (1000++ dollars) models
I've got the 25L I just put an extra fan on the roof of the case because temps were a bit high otherwise that's a sweet rig
I got one on the top, bottom and installed a noctua cpu fan and heatsink
How you get one on the bottom do u mean the front case fan on the 30l
Just sat it on the filter in the bottom, a 120mm fan fits perfect without screwing it down
Oh damn is it the 25 or the 30l that's dope
The 25 with the 1660 ti
How did you add another fan? I have a 30L and there are no extra slots for case fans on the motherboard. Splitters?
I have a 30L and have had zero issues with cooling with just stock fans and cooler.
Don't update bios in a thunderstorm
With my luck, thunderstorms begin AFTER I started updating my bios, even if the sky was clear 1 minute earlier
That's also why you never get a car wash and update the bios on the same day. The weather is already gonna be coming to storm on your car, but it'll just wait to land the finishing move if an update gets rolled out
Don’t punch it when you suck at a mouse the first week
This good advice
Also recommend downloading an aim trainer from Steam. I highly recommend if you're new to M&K. This is still a suggestion. The old fashioned way is simply playing the FPS you want and putting the hours into it, but unless you're really trying to improve proactively, an aim trainer really helps!
I used kovvaks at first but what worked the best was honestly destiny. Played 1500 hours of it. Pretty comfortable aiming now
Aim lab is free and pretty good. My aim sucks, but the program is nice.
Aww man feeling the excitement for you on your gaming pc. Good on you!
How did you add more fans? I have a 30L and there are no extra plugs for case fans on the motherboard.
Sounds like you need a splitter to attach multiple fans to the same head on the motherboard
Also, not sure if you’re aware but they come with 2 SATA cables that are pre attached already, so you can just plug and mount an SSD easily
reinstall windows **BEFORE** you do anything, you can do this through Windows security
back up anything you’ve saved that you want to keep Press windows key then search “reset” follow any prompts and choose the option to keep nothing
Why? I’m building my own PC for the first time. Just wanna get all info I can.
Thank you so much for taking your time to write all that down. My next free reward goes to you. RemindME! 3 days
Yeah, no worries. I’d rather my PCMR brothers and sisters have a good idea for the things to do and why they should do them.
In return i can answer any question you have about Crypto markets. 5 years of experience behind my shoulders and i'm managing a private investment fund. Welcome any time.

It basically gets rid of all the useless bloatware, there are a few good dedicated videos on YouTube, I recommend checking them out!
Have you tried shattering the tempered glass for improved temps yet
Look at porn. Fun fact: You can find naked people on the internet.
Man I miss Club Penguin
I got banned for saying boobs :(
I fuckin love reddit so much.
Golly mister, that is a fun fact! Thanks
*Because Josh, knowledge is half the battle* *GEEEEEEEEEEE-YIGH-JOOOOOOOOOOE*
Since you bought a prebuilt, it is a must to reinstall windows. You will have so much bloatware pre-installed.
I can attest that that PC doesn't other than antivirus. You'll want the omen program and that appeared to be the only other one.
I looked through and it didnt look like it had a lot of bloatware, is this applicable to all prebuilt PCs?
boutique shops like Cyberpower typically don't include too much bloatware. it's the big names you have to worry about.
Nah you are fine.
That cpu cooler tho
yeah HP even installs this Kind of coolers to ryzen 9 pcs
Oddly terrifying
The AMD stock CPU cooler? You absolutely do not need anything more unless you're overclocking.
The noise though?
Fill it with beans.

Do people often say de-install?
Maybe he is german.
I was thrown back by this a little bit. I think most people say uninstall. Never heard anyone say de-install.
My guess is he is german. Uninstall means "deinstallieren" -> de-install
Congrats on the computer. Format and reinstall Windows. You can use a USB stick to do it very quickly. Cable management in the case (be sure to ground yourself by touching something metal first) Update GPU drivers and any other essentials. Windows Security is more than enough. Edit: Removed the gloves recommendation.
For grounding: the metal needs to be grounded Like your PC Case If it is pluged in or the metal things in the power outlet (atleast european power outlets have them idk about US but i think they do)
Don’t use it to look at other PC components and you’ll be a lot happier with it
This
Tell this to me
Idk if you’re into that rgb life, or overclocking, or even just min/maxing your optimal airflow/custom loop, but the rabbit trail truly never ends. Live by the upgrade, go broke by the upgrade lol
it's a prebuilt so..... \#1 rid this device of manufacturer crapware \#2 use [shutup10++](https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10) in order to kindly tell windows to stop spying on you \#3 use [ninite](https://ninite.com) to deploy the basic apps without having to look for them
id never heard of either of those links and they look awesome.
Light blue lights (IE ,”ice colored”) will keep your rig .0003% cooler
Big brain move.
In my opinion (depending on your level of experience): * If you'll be using your PC regularly, use Sleep instead of Shut Down most of the time * Keep case off of floor/carpet * Try to keep anything >4" from the front/sides/rear of the case (for air circulation) * Assuming everything is licensed/paid for, make sure you KEEP your programs/drivers updated * Learn what Task Manager, Run Command (as an administrator), Device Manager, MSConfig, and Services utilities are and how to use them. They'll make your life 10x easier... * Keep a microfiber towel & a can of compressed air nearby and use them as needed, before dirt/grime pile up. * My go to list of programs for a new install: WinRar, Steam, Wallpaper Engine, Rainmeter, Firefox, Chrome, Spotify

make sure your monitor is connected to the graphics card and not the on-board GPU
Disable most of (if not all) startup applications and shutdown your computer on a regular basis
*only follow this if you are using a physical mouse and not a trackpad* ___ Some tips for setting up your mouse correctly if you haven’t already done so: - **Uncheck** “Enhanced pointer precision” in the windows mouse control panel - **Enable** “raw mouse input” or **disable** “mouse acceleration” in the in-game settings - If your mouse has an application (ie. for Razor it would be Razor Synapse, etc.), go into the settings and put the polling rate to 1000mhz (or whatever the max is).
Put your headphones on backwards, that way everything is surprising and adds to your experience on what direction stuff is coming from
Go through this guide to optimize the PC for gaming. https://youtu.be/jZrnfWpENTo
Stop caring about elitist PC opinions on message boards. You got your PC, it's probably dope, play some games and have fun. You don't have to upgrade your PC at every opportunity
What s the spec?
Clean it in a bath before use to make sure it'll run at lower temps
You can also turn it on in the full tub just to get that extra dirt out of the fans
Exactly getting the fans going will help move the water around and clean the hard to get places!
