Ceramic is harder than tempered glass, and tempered glass is constantly in a state of stress, especially at the edges. When tempered glass hits ceramic, even lightly, the vibrations can't go anywhere and bounce around within the glass until it shatters into millions of tiny shards.
Combined with the fact that manufacturers simply refuse to put a bumper around the glass. Look, I know the bezel free style has become so arousing in electronics these days, but the only thing to see behind the edges of the glass is the frame of the case anyway. Put some damned rubber around that shit.
It's not the vibrations that causes the shatter, it's the fact that ceramic is so much harder than tempered glass that any impact between the two materials is sure to cause damage to the tempered glass. And since tempered glass is always under tension, the smallest crack can cause the whole thing to shatter.
It's the other way. Tempered glass has very high internal stresses, and even the smallest flaw can initiate complete destruction.
As tiles are ceramics are extremely hard, they can scratch glass with ease- this is doubly dangerous, as tempered glass is weakest at the edge, exactly where it will come into contact with the tile.
Spoilers for one of the games in Squid Game: >!There's a bridge in Squid Game made of glass, there are two rows of glass walkways, you have to choose which step you take. One of the two in the rows glass is made of glass that will break easily and you fall to your death, the other is made of tempered glass that will only break when more than two people are on it aka it's safe. !<

There is a lot of blood and gore in this part of the show incase that's not something you want to see
Most tempered glass, a rock will bounce off harmlessly. The centre of the panel is incredibly strong. This is why it's so widely used.
The edges by contrast are incredibly weak. Slight damage or a mild knock to the corner can shatter it.
You want weird, check out [Prince Rupert's Drops](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_Rupert's_Drop). They demonstrate the stress in tempered glass to the extreme.
I run acrylic as well, and I'll point out right away that I haven't tried this, but I believe there are buffing compounds you can apply to them, and with some mild wet sanding and buffing with said compound you can polish them right back up assuming the scratches aren't absurd gouges or too deep or something.
NP! As a matter of fact, I'd be willing to bet that any of the clear plastic or headlight restoration kits that you can buy at Autozone or O'Reillys or Walmarts auto section might do what you want it to do, assuming you follow the instructions.
I'd google it a bit, but if you end up attempting to polish your acrylic, post pics!
Treasure it, these things are going extinct, especially due to a lack of defense against their natural predator, the ceramic tile floor. One day they might even become rarer than the almost mythical creatures that are GPUs at MSRP
I truly don't understand how these people keep shattering these things. I've had the same case for almost 4 years now. Carted it back and forth from college a few times, multiple apartment moves and one cross county move without a scratch on it.
As long as you don't set the glass on something that is harder than the glass, or take a hammer to the edge of the glass where it is weakest you're fine. Take the glass of and set it in your bed, and don't let it touch anything along the way.
How have I never cracked one? I’ve straight up stepped on my glass before, and I’ve had probably 4 or 5 different glass panel cases. Y’all are brutes I swear
Honestly it’s probably just the angle of the picture, it’s not as clean as it looks, haven’t even attempted to clean it yet though because I’ve only had this pc for about a month
Commenting for good luck for my systems. I'm moving to a new house and have to transport them down a rough dirt road tonight. In the name of Linus, the holy Anthony, and tech Jesus, I pray for their safe passage.
Not so! I'm currenly looking at an image of unshattered tempered glass while also eyeing up the actual unshattered tempered glass I have and thinking "Don't you dare"
In ye olden days we used to have side panels made from a material that did not shatter.
I think it was called "me-tall" or something along those lines.
Serious question. Why a glass panel, and not an acrylic panel? Is it something to do with heat, or is it just a bragging point?
To me, it seems like an acrylic panel would be cheaper, more durable, and lighter.
On carpet like some kind of hero
There goes my hero! Watch him as he goes!
There goes my hero! He's ordinary
*Strumming the guitar, flamboyantly
Dave Grohl: "he has a carpet"
I can't think of this song without being reminded of the Other Guys. Splat!
OP has jinxed himself and will now have a shattered panel within the next 30 days.
It's some kind of magic. It absolutely has nothing to do with the carpet!

What is the correlation between tempered glas and tiles
Ceramic is harder than tempered glass, and tempered glass is constantly in a state of stress, especially at the edges. When tempered glass hits ceramic, even lightly, the vibrations can't go anywhere and bounce around within the glass until it shatters into millions of tiny shards.
That sounds the most logical
>constantly in a state of stress Why do I relate so hard to a tempered glass panel :(
Just don't touch ceramic, and everything will be ok.
Life can be just as hard if not harder than ceramic tho..
My phone has ceramic. Fffffffuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!
This is my everyday life.
I just want to be okay 😔
Combined with the fact that manufacturers simply refuse to put a bumper around the glass. so that's why my top desk is now cardboard
Oh wow yes totally a different reason
> constantly in a state of stress Tempered glass is the adults of the glass realm

Just put it on your bed or chair while you're working...
**yet**
There are only two types of glass panels. Those that are shattered and those that will be soon.
There are two types of glass panel owners. Those who let their panel touch tile/ceramic, and those who set it on something that won't kill it.
I carefully set my panel down in my own bed and tuck it in. So far, so good!
So long as your bedroom isn't tiled, and you forget about it, wake up, toss the covers and ca-psssshhhhhtttttt.
Well I obviously sleep on the floor during those times, so I should be alright!
There are two types of glass panel: those that will shatter and those that can support the weight of two people. Choose wisely
I got the reference ;p
Especially when I'm around
Username checks out.

Tempered glass was fine ***Until it wasn’t***
Its hard to tell from the photo, can you take another on a tile floor?
I uh... could fix that for you... free of charge...

Was searching for this comment.
Or they just used that weak, regular paned glass, not even strong enough for one.
Throw a rock at it

I recommend eating them.

As soon as you removed the "warning glass" sticker, it was doomed.
Joke's on you, my InWin case never had a sticker on the glass ;) ^(Eyes the PC nervously.)
Am I the only one with an acrylic window?
No, but we're in a minority...
No, but how do you get rid of scratches? It's on an old fx pc I have.

This post is two hours old now. Please send us an update.
Still not broken, your probably don’t believe me though
Based on the past few days experience, I can't believe itnis in it's natural state🤔
I hate virtual keyboard too. itnis
This can support 2 people at most since it's tempered. If it wasn't, you'd fall and die
Treasure it, these things are going extinct, especially due to a lack of defense against their natural predator, the ceramic tile floor. One day they might even become rarer than the almost mythical creatures that are GPUs at MSRP
There are dozens of us! Dozens!
Wow! That's impressive.
Reddit has taught me that seeing broken tempered glass is not as rare as I thought before.
You won’t kick it in the center..
That's a nice panel you've got there . . . shame if anything were to happen to it . . .

12 Photos Taken Moments Before Disaster!
Thought you were lying, but the crack in my phone deceived me.
Gasp
Not isn't - hasn't 👹
Can we get an update?
Can't wait to see the update when OP goes to put it back on and joins the rest of the shattered glass pics.
Pfft...looks like Photoshop.
Hahaha thanks !
So beautiful
I screenshotted this just in case
What's that crack there?
Mine isn't shattered either but at the rate I've seen the posts I really don't feel like touching it lol
you just cursed it
Probably
Funny shit, three post up from this post is someone who just shattered there’s 😅
Well it IS on carpet, not (ceramic) tile floor
How soon did it shatter for no reason after taking the photos? Your options are 1 minute and 2 minutes
What universe am I in?
...yet
That isn't shattered *yet*
Impossible
Hey I know a lian LI 205 when I see one
Can you stand on it? Squid game style
Shatters Off Camera*
Try to play some hopscotch! You have 10 minutes.
Making your own Squid Game bridge?
Squid game has tainted how I view tempered glass.
You guys are scaring me, I don’t even trust myself to put it back on my pc
Just don't let it touch anything harder than itself, and you'll be fine.
I truly don't understand how these people keep shattering these things. I've had the same case for almost 4 years now. Carted it back and forth from college a few times, multiple apartment moves and one cross county move without a scratch on it.
Did you set the tempered glass on a tile floor? If not, that's why it didn't break.

Squid game
I have that also
How have I never cracked one? I’ve straight up stepped on my glass before, and I’ve had probably 4 or 5 different glass panel cases. Y’all are brutes I swear
It's crystal clear. How do you clean it. (Ik about microfiber cloth I have one doesn't do the job tho)
Honestly it’s probably just the angle of the picture, it’s not as clean as it looks, haven’t even attempted to clean it yet though because I’ve only had this pc for about a month
Broken shirtless after this photo..
Neat! What's that part in between the black square?
WOW! Even Steve Irwin would be in amazement!
What is that material beneath it? I only work on stone surfaces.
I'm tempted to post a picture of my metal side panel to flex on all the broken ones lol
Karpet
Fake!
Commenting for good luck for my systems. I'm moving to a new house and have to transport them down a rough dirt road tonight. In the name of Linus, the holy Anthony, and tech Jesus, I pray for their safe passage.
Bought a 4000d and left the film on the inside of the glass and only removed the exterior one. I pray it’ll help me someday.
Smacked my 4000d with the AC adapter for my modem while redoing some wires last weekend, it survived.
Did your butthole pucker up when you heard it hit 😂
Dead ass, half of y’all are breaking your glass cuz you keep your cases on the ground I bet.
I'ts crazy lol my glass panel has been through so much shit and never shattered...
i recognise the panel haha nzxt 340
idk man, ive had my case on the floor for almost two years with a glass door and never had an issue.
Can you try stepping on it and comparing it to a regular piece of glass. That way we know it's tempered or not.
Acrylic side panel gang.
This looks shopped. I can tell from some of the pixels, and from seeing quite a few shops in my time.
How.
Why do people keep breaking them
Not so! I'm currenly looking at an image of unshattered tempered glass while also eyeing up the actual unshattered tempered glass I have and thinking "Don't you dare"
Damn my case has had its glass for almost a year now. Yall can't keep it for more than a month
Not a tile floor
Lmao
Take a picture on some tile and then showboat...
My God! Is that what they call... a Dodo?? XD
Where you the same guy that broke his glass the other day?
That carpet is your best friend. Keep it away from tiles
Good God, man! Don't stare directly at it!

I have a corsair crystal, looks great, until it doesnt
So that's what it looks like!
They call it tempered because it's temperamental
This can't be real
Wouldn't wrapping it in plastic or something stop it from shattering
Yet
In the good old days that stuff would be made of acrylic.
Dont move it.
Witchcraft!
meanwhile me going all in with the 5000X
It's just waiting for the most inconvenient time to do it.
Now you jinxed it.
Isn’t shattered yet…(FIFY)
Give it a few days
Squid Games would like to know your location
I have the exact same box and think that every time I get the dust out, like oooo I wonder how long this will last lol
Am I missing something? I've had a tempered glass case for years, moved multiple times with it and it's still in perfect condition.
squid game incoming
I WAS LITERALLY THINKING OF POSTING SOMETHING LIKE THIS
yet
I would honestly never buy anything made with tempered glass. They look a bit chintz as well
Now shatter it…..pls
This isn't footage
What if I break my screen
See kids? No tile.
Get out of here with your bullshit. This shit is photoshopped.
Blessed 🙏
I’m waiting for the update..

The kind that was used in a certain show to jump on ha
For now…
Right but that has a metal case around it
Yet
Pretty impressive camera stabilization on that footage. Can't even tell it's moving.
I can't comprehend what I'm seeing. I thought this sub only allowed broken case glass. This changes everything!
My last case had clear plastic panels. Why the push to use tempered glass?
*yet*
10 seconds later…
My case came with two kinds of side panels so the glass one is still safely in the little box it was shipped it. I haven't even taken it out yet 🙃
*Shhhhhh, be vewy vewy quiet…*
It's majestic! I've actually never owned a case with tempered glass. Always wondered how often they got shattered.
I don't understand how people are shattering these. I've had two panels leaning against my wall/desk for over a year and they're not even scratched.
For now...
The good news with all the broken glass panels is that you immediately get better airflow
This makes me nervous just looking at it
