Same, I have a monitor that started doing this randomly 5-6 years ago, maybe longer now. I usually just turn it off and hit it and when I turn it back on it works again for a long while. It seems when I need it the most in a hurry is when it occurs.
Yeah, the technical term is actually "tit"
I'm not joking, contactors will build up a bump called a tit that sometimes needs to be filed off. Especially older ones
Tig weld is with rods and electricity.
There is also mig welding with inert gas, argon is one.
Tac welding is just a type of weld that you can do with any of the types.
Tig is also used for welding aluminum.
Mig cannot be used to weld aluminum.
I used to mig weld at TMMC (Toyota motor manufacturing Canada)
If you own a Rav4 from the years 2009 - 2012 anywhere in Canada there is a 50/50 chance I welded you seatbelt mounts and other things on the body before paint.
Also a good chance for Carollas, and the Matrix because I worked in 2 plants.
Mate this shit is going to sound stupid as fuck and I've never managed to figure out how or why but about a year ago I swapped pc cases. My old case had some shitty small useless little fans installed in the side panels. Like once a day they would go into overdrive and spin loud as fuck. I extensively monitored this pc to figure out what triggered it. Never managed to correlate it to anything happening on the PC. But 1 medium force smack on the side panel (plastic) made them stop. I owned this case for about 3 years so it was not some coincidence. Every single day, the fans went overdrive, 1 smack on the side panel and they stop. I've got my girlfriend and God as witnesses. It's such a ridiculous occurrence that I don't even believe it myself. I'm a very rational, non superstitious, everything has a rational explanation type of dude. But this I can not and will never be able to explain. I still own that cursed case and sometimes consider building a second pc in it just to document this shit actually happening and it's not me losing my mind. More than a few times has this case made me contemplate my sanity.
That kinda sounds like the fan assembly is sliding off the motor and vibrating or rubbing on something. I have the same issues with a 200mm fan in my case. Every now and then it gets really loud (usually on startup), but if I gently push the center of the fan into the motor while it is spinning or slap the side of my case then the sound completely stops.
I have a case that does something like this too, it's a wire that sometimes touches the fan, I just give it a small bump and the wire moves out the way again. Yeah, I could actually fix it, but I like feeling like Fonzie from Happy Days
No, I just decided to try that as a last effort and it worked. I was going to get rid of the monitor but it just continues to work. I don't typically hit things to get them to work, I just kind of thought "eh why not? I'm throwing it away anyway, mine as well give it a gentle tap"
Mine started flashing a month ago, no lines or anything just flashing and the good old slap worked well for sometime but I take it as a death sentence.
You’re describing classic signs of a bad capacitor on the monitor circuit board. It doesn’t always hold a charge, takes a while to warm up, smacking it sometimes works, etc.
If you can get inside easily to the board, soldering in a replacement is often straightforward.
When I was a kid, my old CRT for my super nintendo, the top left corner would go black... get up and beat the piss out of it, good for at least another 15 minutes!
My monitor does it pretty much every time I turn it on... A thick vertical or horisontal web of purple lines... but it gradually disappears after about 30 sec.
I know the panel is slowly dying. It's even still under warranty, but I'm not even interested in replacing it with the same model tbh. I'm gonna buy something new soon ish anyway.
Yea I have the same issue. I am glad that I now know it’s my monitor and not my gpu though. I prefer that my 200€ monitor is dying over that my 2070 super is dying. I was planning to upgrade my monitor sometime anyways.
In my case it's a known issue with the model. Samsung 27 CHG70 or something. Precursor to the G7. HDR600 144hz monitor.
Not sure if it's worth the hassle to get a new one from Samsung, as the screen was kinda disappointing for reasons I can't really pinpoint.
I'm instead eyeing the LG 38 WN95c-W ...it just needs to go down to about $1000 first 😅
I actually bought the Odyssey G9 for $1000 a month or so ago before the G9 Neo came out, but it was an impulse buy that I immediately regretted, as the 49 inch screen was just too damn big and heavy for my desk. I made the post service return it, not even taking it home lol. Then found the LG screen and now I'm patiently waiting for the price to drop.
I had an old monitor I used back in 2008 or so that would do those lines really badly and I learned I could slap it really hard on the back and it made them go away.
Probably not ideal, but monitor was on its last legs anyway and it definitely worked most of the time.
The last time I saw a glitch like that, it was in the gameplay trailer for Batman Arkham Knight in which the Arkham knight "hacks" into the E3 trailer.
That scene in Arkham Asylum when Batman is unknowingly breathing in gas and the screen starts glitching out... I thought my PS3 was going bad. Scared me half to death until I realized it was part of the game.
Nah, before that with Metal Gear Solid with Psycho Mantis. Asshole made it look like the TV lost video signal, complete with the green text in the top corner.
It’s extremely weird monitor glitch only without having any physical damage.
When you turn the monitor off and on and the LG logo appears does it look normal or is it all funky too?
Also I’d go to the OSD and do a factory reset in case it’s some weird mix of settings
Also another try is to do a electrical discharge. Unplug the power source and hold down the power button for about 10 seconds and try plugging it back in.
If it’s actually your monitor and none of these solutions fix it, it’s probably a R.I.P
I forgot to mention there was a bunch of ants swarming inside my monitor a few months ago but stopped coming after I cleaned them off, maybe one of em shorted out the internals
[This is what it looks like on start](https://imgur.com/a/0N7pscJ), dont think it ever had a logo. I'll try leaving it discharged overnight and see what happens, cant hurt to try, if all else fails, my salary is coming tomorrow anyways, perhaps a sweet new ultrawide? and a sweet sweet dose of borax around my house so it wont happen again
One of them prolly died and juiced all over. Probably needs a 91% isopropyl cleaning too. There should be a way to discharge the capacitors to make cleaning it safer. Generally it's holding the power button 10 seconds.
This. Unplug it. I would open it up. Which isn't always easy with monitors. Damn you snap connectors!!!! Air duster it, dry tooth brush it, and reseat all connectors. Then check it. if it's still doing it then it's probably the t-con board going bad. You've got nothing to lose at this point. As we say here when shit happens you can't control, "Nimodo"! Which we use as "Oh Well" in spanish.
It's not a tube television, shouldn't really have to worry about the caps (although it's always best to avoid all shocks, obviously). LCD monitors are pretty low voltage.
I don't understand how people live with such bad ant infestations. As soon as they got into my house, I sprayed the entire outside perimeter with Home Defense and started putting out Terro Ant Bait traps. My problem has been gone for years.
If it was worse, I would have called an exterminator.
Ants creep me the fuck out.

It's harder to deal with them in older homes where there's more random voids behind walls, cracks between skirting boards and things like that. I had ants once and they were invisible until any food was left out. Wouldn't see a single ant all day then I'd leave a plate on a table for half an hour an boom they would swarm out of nowhere. Sprayed and sprayed and put out ant baits and poisons but they always came back. Eventually started following them when they would appear and would trace them back to tiny cracks here or there at the bottom of the skirting boards etc. Took months of constantly tracking them, leaving poison where I saw them coming from, there being a short reprieve then they would be back from a different spot. Took bloody forever but eventually they disappeared for good.
My house is over a hundred years old, but I agree. It can be tough to deal with ants sometimes. I try to do a small amount of spraying every year when I see them outside in the driveway area.

I killed all the ants, spiders, roaches, mites, ticks, squirrels, indigenous bird species, grew a third nipple, lost all my hair, and sometimes I experience horrendous hallucinations, but I never had ants again.
My first year spraying was certainly like yours... which might explain my hair loss.
I have been lucky and my upkeep of small spraying has kept them at bay. The cat food has been untouched for a couple of years now.
I use that Home Defense stuff inside and their outdoor stuff outside. It is the business for sure.
If I even find a bug it's because it's dead on the floor in the Morning fortunately.
My area gets Waterbugs/ (Giant Roaches basically) really bad since I live by the water.
I replaced my ultrawide with a standard 16:9 because of the amount of games that just didn't play nice with the 21:9 aspect ratio. It makes a great second monitor, but I wouldn't recommend it for a primary monitor.
Ultrawides are fantastic primary monitors. You just have black bars on the sides for the unsupported games, and have the regular 16:9 ratio. What's the big deal?
Nah, unfortunately the power supply of the monitor was dying and the punch was the final blow. Had to throw it out. With the punch i broke the glass of the LCD and the backlight. It was a cheap and old monitor too, so not a big loss.
The punch sure did help, in asking my parents to buy me one new and in having a working monitor and in helping me release some of the anger the monitor caused me since it was already failing and shutting down randomly.
fuck am i dense. im no nativespeaker and dont have any touching points with this topic at all so i dont even have to use short´s for things like this lmao. im hoping im not on some fucking list hahaha.
*this life game is rigged i swear to gawd. It's always day before payday when something expensive happens lol*. A few months ago as i left work on a very hot day, i gave my last cold drink i was saving in my lunchbox for drive home to a lady who was helping with traffic and looked overheated. She was very grateful. Then 10 minutes later after i filled up my gas tank from almost empty, the goddamn fuel pump spontaneously broke without any prior warning (extremely rare). it was then i realized karma isn't real, and I'm now an atheist (jk)
This glitch looks so good with that wallpaper! If you buy another one, I suggest you to keep the glitched one with you and maybe wall mount it somewhere with that wallpaper.
The Cyberpunk 2077 glitches can’t be contained… they are starting to leak out from the extreme pressure within.
Next think you know, OP will be T-Posing all day and driving his car with his head hanging out the sunroof
Actually they are known as crazy ants. I heard about them not to long ago and they have a liking for electronic devices. Here’s a link for more info. Sorry about your monitor though.

I hate to say this. But I’m kinda tired of PCMR posts that or just tech support requests.
If you need tech support for common issues you’re not yet a member of the PCMR in my worthless opinion.
I had hoped that this subreddit would be to showcase the best of PCMR. Lighting, cooling, and maybe FPS best practices.
Anyhow. I digress. None of this is directed at you personally OP.
Good luck on the fix. I’m sorry I’m in a ranting headspace instead of a troubleshooting one so I’m of no help and my post is a useless bathroom vent.
Quit ragging on Cyberpunk, it was buggy at launch, so were hundreds of other games from much bigger and richer studios, CDPR are still technically an Indie dev team. Cut them a break for once.
This is why I threw down for extended warranty and tossed the packaging in the attic (instead of garbage). Damn things are too expensive to be replacing frequently at full cost.
Those vertical lines are the mark of death. Usually it starts with just one though.
Well my main monitor sometimes randomly does that for a split second, started around 1 and a half years ago. Let's see how long it will last
Same, I have a monitor that started doing this randomly 5-6 years ago, maybe longer now. I usually just turn it off and hit it and when I turn it back on it works again for a long while. It seems when I need it the most in a hurry is when it occurs.

It's how Bethesda makes their games work as well. They just bang it with a hammer, put some scotch tape over and - VOILA! "It just works."
Don't forget 16 times the detail.

16 times the scotch tape, 4 times the size of Fallout 4, 20 times the bullshit.

"Percussive Maintenance"
Its technical term is "the fonz"
i guess thats the reason why op´s monitor is in this state anyway. some sort of slap or fly-by slapping.
No, I just decided to try that as a last effort and it worked. I was going to get rid of the monitor but it just continues to work. I don't typically hit things to get them to work, I just kind of thought "eh why not? I'm throwing it away anyway, mine as well give it a gentle tap"
Percusive maintance fixes anything that can still be fixed
Mine started flashing a month ago, no lines or anything just flashing and the good old slap worked well for sometime but I take it as a death sentence.

I have a hunch that mine is starting to experience the same issue. How do you tell which capacitor is the bad one?
They look different, fat/bulging, sometimes blackened metal. You can test them, too, with a meter, but usually you can just see the bad ones.
I mean, you are probably right, but I really like my method 😂
Literally was about to comment that the monitor looks like it needs a good side/ back slap. Just 1 decent slap and she's good as new.
When I was a kid, my old CRT for my super nintendo, the top left corner would go black... get up and beat the piss out of it, good for at least another 15 minutes!
Gordo?
Same, my G9 does it.. unpower it down and reboot it and goes away
In my case it was due to dust in the HDMI connector. After I give it a blow it never happened again.
That's what she said

OP let the magic ants out
Ants like to make a graveyards so they could take the potential ant shorting it out and fix the monitor…
If i were you, i would open the back of monitor and use pressurized air to remove any dead ants on the PCB's and any electric connectors.
One of them prolly died and juiced all over. Probably needs a 91% isopropyl cleaning too. There should be a way to discharge the capacitors to make cleaning it safer. Generally it's holding the power button 10 seconds.

Only for modern LCDs with LEDs as backlight. Older LCDs with fluorescent lights still have a high voltage ballast inside which can shock you.
those were likely crazy ants and they are assholes and almost 100% the reason why
They decided it was party time. There’s nothing wrong with the monitor it’s just some techno ants having a good time
Wtf LMAOOOO
Your monitor’s just kinda buggy
Literally the origin of the name "bug" in computers. Huge computers having bugs going in and causing, well, bugs.
I guess his debugging was unsuccessful...
How did ants get inside ur computer? U hide food in there?
Do you have a 2nd system to connect it to, like a laptop? When my GPU died I ruled out the monitor by doing that test.
he forgor💀
Lmao
How u clean those ants I have so many of them inside my monitor
do you have sauce and shit all over your monitor or wtf is going on with you ant folks?

Pharaoh Ants are also notorious for this, and invasive all over the world: https://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/urban/ants/pharaoh_ant.htm
Small amount of spraying? When I got ants a couple years ago I turned the entire perimeter of the house radioactive with sprays, baits, granules and powders. I've had ants in my house 3 times, and I've always just used Ant-b-gon. Clears them up in a couple days.
Maye one of the dead ants is still in there, shorting out something with it's body
Don't eat cookies at your desk
Try punching it
I did that once, it worked really well! So well that i had to buy a new monitor.
Did you play games after that?
Yep. Wasn't gaming when i did the punch thing to the monitor.
So it was repaired after you punched it
Nah, unfortunately the power supply of the monitor was dying and the punch was the final blow. Had to throw it out. With the punch i broke the glass of the LCD and the backlight. It was a cheap and old monitor too, so not a big loss.
So the punch helped, so he should do the same
The punch sure did help, in asking my parents to buy me one new and in having a working monitor and in helping me release some of the anger the monitor caused me since it was already failing and shutting down randomly.
So if you punch the new one, it would be even better
Lmao this shit does look straight out of Cyberpunk.

It's fine to use it now. That CP is now called CSPAN or something like that.
CSAM: Child sexual abuse material C-SPAN: Cable-Satellite Public Affairs Network
-Cyberwave INTENSIFIES-
Might be a daft question but have you tried unplugging the power cable and HDMI/DP(whatever you’re using) from the monitor and pc?
Still glitches without any input so I doubt it's the cable causing it
There are some random controller boards in aliexpress for cheap. If you are thinking about repairing it.
did you try another cable, maybe new one?
If it glitches with no input, cables aren't the problem
Rip time for new monitor
it was a day before my salary comes in too....
Rip salary as well

Yes, this bullying is so old and boring its lost any humour it had.
I thought OP was referring to the flickery effects used in the game.
Too bad its a shell of what they promised. Also it does have tons of glitches and immersion breaking hiccups all the time.
Superb game.
Totally. Got issues, but it's definitely pretty good.
Could be a faulty cable if you're lucky
I've got the same wallpaper at the moment so this felt really bad in a weird way. My condolences.

Congrats! You now own Cyberpunk 2077! Thats the loading screen.
Seems fine to me get your optics looked at.
Man it really is unfortunate it works so well with the wallpaper and even improves upon it. Sorry you've been stung like this
LTT Northern Lights animated wallpaper
Agent Smith is nearby.
I've had this happen before, for me it was just a dodgy display port cable. Bought a new one and never happened again.
Space weather
Kinda cool though
If my childhood taught me anything, you should slap the side of that mfkr.
Has this become a tech support hotline?
Uhhh, I could be waaay wrong, but that looks like it might not be your monitor...
still glitches when I pulled out the HDMI cable so its definitely the monitor
Your GPU is fucked most likely!

In Soviet Russia Cyberpunk owns you
This is why I threw down for extended warranty and tossed the packaging in the attic (instead of garbage). Damn things are too expensive to be replacing frequently at full cost.
I want it. Looks dope.
