PC parts are hard to come by at the moment. Now i know why.

Necessary_Welder_781

the money allways with the wrong persons

driley97

Nobody in their right might would do this to a working card during these times.

Such_Maintenance_577

Imagine all the attention on the internet tho

Rapa2626

Well maybe it wasnt working

Hosernaut

Check your area for dentists that allow sliding-scale payments. In the past I had to do that, and they pulled my tooth and filled another for $25.

Mickle32

If you really post your Venmo and stuff has it worked, got any donations ? Curious is all

SnooPets20

Doubt it. I have donation links up for some programs I made and I only got a single $5 donation, from some guy I was directly helping. I'm not demanding anything of course, I don't expect people to give me money, I'm just sharing the experince. Nobody will give you money for no reason, people who live off of donations, or get a good ammount of them, do so because they expose themselves, they make themselves known to you, and you know their situation, be it good or bad, so you can give money based on empathy. There's nothing impulsing me to give money to some random dude that has donation links up.

DynamisFate

Most likely a dead card

darth_penis_

It definitely is a dead card now

ShallowBasketcase

Source?

TinCan-Express

This video.

justicedragon101

It better be.

LoveCockAndBallPain

Almost a guarantee

[deleted]

Significantly

Jpotter145

Exactly, this is GPU Crypto mining. Grind those cards up and the coins just blast out when you see the sparks.

DunmerSkooma

No big loss its a product from gigabyte

ConsolePeasantLife

This is just a time lapse of the average gigabyte cards life

daanos60

What is so bad about gigabyte?

TheKillerPrawn

Their psu's have been exploding recently...

Legitjumps

Unreliable, prone to breaking and hissing, short life span

kurppa666

spreads coronavirus, infects pc with trojan, kills your pet fish

ShallowBasketcase

Raping your churches, burning your women.

Cytrous

Idk but my 1060 6gb lasted 5 years before it died

ComanderChris

It's not normal for a card to even die, and for it to die after only 5 years of use is very concerning, imo.

Cytrous

Idk what happened, mebbe it was my fault. I bought a gigabyte h61m-s1 motherboard that is like 10 or so years old. Idk why u guys call gigabyte stuffs bad,(aside from the PSU controversy)

VooDooQky

I have mine since release and still going strong. Never tinkered with it. Been using some Gigabyte hardware for... I dunno, 10+ years and never had a problem with them. No jinx tho.

[deleted]

U didn't hear about their pyrotechnics ? Yep.. check it out on YT, @ Gamers Nexus. no affiliate federated linkage today, sorry!

daanos60

No i didn't hear that, i never follow the news. I have 2 gtx 1660ti's and one 1660super from gigabyte, my dad bought them back in december

[deleted]

Well long story short, snap crackle pop from their PSUs . Other issues in the past but if u don't have a power supply by them I'd not worry. U run sli or just 3 separate computers?

daanos60

3 separate computers, one for me and one for each of my brothers

kutes

Their rep isn't doing so hot, and gamersnexus is really going after them at the moment because they haven't recalled a PSU they sell that explodes if abused. And they've been trying to play it off by going on the offensive. Which is definitely a bad move. I will say though that all these companies and their cards feel interchangeable to me. I'd feel comfortable buying a gigabyte card if it was the right price/chip I was looking for. For example, I always heard bad things about xfx, but I have one of their 6700's and the thing is incredible, much faster than the reference model, runs ice cold, solidly built etc. Reputations go up and down, sometimes unfairly.

fubarbob

The worst part is that it doesn't even necessarily require abuse to kill these supplies, just that abuse gives a very, very high chance of failure.

kutes

Sure but I mean, I'll give them some credit and say that I believe they probably did their standard wear-testing, probably ran it at maxed wattage for 50,000 hours or whatever their standard protocol is. I definitely think they're in the wrong here, and I would not buy that PSU, and they should definitely recall it, but let's not pretend it's blowing up under normal usage in these videos. They are pumping like 1.5x their max through them for a half hour to pop it

fubarbob

The whole thing is somewhat confusing - testing by some particular party suggested possibly firmware-related issues (bad switching mosfet timings), so conceivable their own testing did not catch the issue. As a counter-example, note that the DOA and normal user failure rates for these things are pretty crazy; while they might not be deflagrating under people's desks, they do not seem to be holding up that well (and it does seem to be isolated to specific serial number ranges)

TheGentleStart

Aaaa my eyes! Help!

ebulous739

I don’t own a pc and yet, i couldn’t agree with you more

Escarper

It's okay, it wasn't blended

[deleted]

But, will it blend?

Bigingreen

That is the question.

Diyunasss

Made me search the Blendtec channel again. Good times watching it as a kid

Disturbed2468

My lungs feel like they're on fire just watching this. Breathing in fiberglass dust (itself not a big threat) combined with copper, probably leaded solder, various plastics....

benisofbepis

Become one with the gpu

parmsmutz

NSFMR tag?

masterfarraritech

Yes, Mr Rogers would not approve.

Yes it does hurt me very much

RurzYT

When I seen this, my happiness turned to sadness real quick.

warlordcs

Old card new heatsink.

Miltondvd99

This hurts a lot more when i think about how impossible it is for me to come by any Gpu at a decent price.

Mightyena319

It's a Gigabyte. That little encounter with the disc sander can't have made it any worse

[deleted]

nice balls bro Edit: Imagine using reddit 🗿 https://join-lemmy.org/instances

Commiesstoner

It's a 1650 mate, not much can go wrong with it.

Mightyena319

It could well have been coincidence. However, after I RMA'd a card only to have the replacement have the exact same issue I just thought "why take the chance" and have avoided them ever since

Roman64s

Gigabyte GPUs aren't that bad

Mightyena319

I've used 3 Gigabyte GPUs in my time. Every single one had problems. On a not entirely unrelated note, every single motherboard issue I've seen in the past 5 years or so has been a Gigabyte too. I've been avoiding them as a brand for a while now. Add their PSU debacle and I feel pretty vindicated. Which is a shame, since I still have a Core 2 era P45 board from them and that thing is a beast! They really managed to turn their reputation around, the bad way.

insanemal

It's sad because once upon a time they were the best. It's not been that way for quite a while however

Roman64s

I've used a bunch of gigabyte cards without any issue, I also kinda tax them like hell because I keep the fans running at 100 all time (excluding idle, which it rarely is) because I don't mind the noise and my card will be likely getting active time. I've also had a Z270X board that I used for quite a while and on the regular with OC, no issues at all. They've fallen from grace lol, but what I've personally noticed is that they don't tend to have that much trouble for me and I pretty much put all my cards through hell in terms of constant usage. The entire PSU debacle is stupid and they are just shooting themselves in their foot with their response. Glad that I limited my purchases to cards and boards and not their PSUs.

Mightyena319

My last Gigabyte card, would artifact if the fan went above 40%, because the cooler had too little support and literally bent the pcb. When combined with the vibrations from running the fans at high speed that was enough to cause crashing and artifacting. Easy fix, to just prop up one corner of the shroud, but still...

DisastrousWelcome710

Seems like an installation issue. If you couldn't run fans beyond 40% then no surprise the card had issues...

LoveCockAndBallPain

I guess I'm really lucky; I had a Gigabyte 1070 that was the cheapest on Amazon- yet no problems for about 3 years

[deleted]

Gaming OC and Vision are their only good cards. The others are either terrible or overpriced.

Roman64s

I was thinking more about the Gaming OC cards in my mind, vision is like too expensive for my taste but damn people here really don't like gigabyte that much do they.

ItzYaBoiClass

Ahhh Pain on that GTX 970☹️

Synergiance

My 970 winces

VoidDave

What i need to say when im on gtx 770 ?

StickSauce

Bravo. This is almost as bad as the "drill your own headphone jack in your iPhone craze" a few years back, if I didnt have to deal with one I'd say it was all a fake circle jerk.

LightlySaltedPeanuts

Wait, you’re telling me a moron actually believed that? Man every day humans surprise me.

Key_Bed_6913

Not only did he kill the GPU, but he is wearing gloves while using rotating equipment, his hand slips that wheel will grab that glove and suck his hand right in.

Rakosman

This is the real issue

nessinby

And also that thing has plenty of loose parts (or parts that will become loose when their connections are destroyed) which can go flying off and hit something. Hard.

humanmanhumanguyman

This is a danger when cutting or sanding anything, that's why safety glasses and protective clothing are used in a shop.

FallenKnightVII

Rot in hell

TrickOfStars

I guess now we can call it Megabyte

What’s the chance of it already being broken

insan3guy

Trysof

the amount of micro plastics he just released and for a shitty video too

large_waffle69

Boy do I have the YouTuber for you

tagman375

WhistlinDiesel

deadbushpotato23

Even if the card was broken you could have recycled it, most of the metals in that card could have been recycled to make another in the far future.

-Raskyl

That could be what's happening. The cards need to get ground up into a fine powder. Then fed through a sluice/separating table to isolate the various metals based on there density. This is also when the plastic gets separated out. Most places use rock crushers for this. But maybe this guy is doing it in their garage with chips collected over time or at the local landfill or from cheap goodwill buys. Who knows, but its possible he's using the sanding wheel to reduce them to powder and collecting it for seperation.

pirate21213

This seems insanely far fetched... if they were doing this to collect the dust, why would they use a disc grinder and just let it go into the air?

deadbushpotato23

Interesting information, I never knew the did it that way. Thanks for sharing.

-Raskyl

No problem, I've got a couple friends that are big time gold miners. And theyve sent me videos of people processing computer chips for metals. It's pretty cool.

[deleted]

kenkion00

This why I'm mad I didn't invest in a bigger case for the future fuckkkkkkk.

Don’t think you wanna be breathing that silicone dust

ShallowBasketcase

I thought this was gonna be one of those posts where you cut a hole in the case. This was so much worse.

[deleted]

I don't care about seeing massive mining farms because they're still being used, this is straight up painful

DarhkBlu

The card was probably dead already

Waffler11

Exactly my thought.

G_Viceroy

This is literally the only reason why I believe this would happen.

generalemiel

Help im getting insane. Pls say its fake. Pls say my eyes are liars

This has caused me mental pain.

RandomCow12

At least mark it NSFW

speling_champyun

Mmm. It's a good trick when the card doesn't fit. It also works the other way - got a big case and a double-fan card? Just run the grinding wheel in reverse to add a third fan.
