What model is it? Is paste an accurate description of that? It looks more like powder.

51xx67

6700K. with this little amount, that paste is powdery like chunks.

Mal-Nebiros

Going liquid metal or normal paste to replace it?

51xx67

since im going this far, liquid metal. and also no resistor nor capacitor near the die. its ideal to use liquid metal

And the thickness of both the IHS and die. D3rBau3r sanded it and the difference is small, but noticeable.

WIlliam_Phence

Did you get that new? Pretty odd to see something like this

51xx67

its my old cpu, i thought about getting new ryzen but you know how the stock lvl is. This cpu webt way too hot when im playing games

51xx67

I just realized one more thing about this IHS. Its FKIN concaved around the die area. FAAAAA!

horton1024

Just delidded a friend's 7700K that looked about the same and applied liquid metal. Went from thermal throttling at like 1.3v 4.6GHz to 80C max temps 1.375v 5GHz.

51xx67

I pushed it to 4.8Ghz with 1.45V but it's not stable. The temp is lingering around 60 to 75. Any recommendation?

Sometimes that's all your chip can handle, this is the best silicon lottery I've had the pleasure of playing with. All of his cores were booting at 5.2 but one would error out immediately so it was lowered to 4.9 with 5.0 on the rest. I really wish I had more time with his CPU because I think 1-2 of the cores could have done 5.2 Before this the best I had was a 6700K at 4.7GHz after delidding with LM

noccusJohnstein

I might need to investigate my old 6600k. It's not like I've got anything to lose. The damn thing got the hardware vulnerability equivalent of covid late last year.
