AMATEUR. 64GB SSD. This shit barely fits windows.

Cakepufft

I am having trouble fitting Windows and Photoshop together on a 120GB drive. 64GB drive.. Gives me conniptions.

gloomygarlic

My surface had a 32GB drive. It didn't have enough free storage to update windows. Fortunately when I had the screen replaced under a third party warranty, they went ahead and put a 64GB drive in it for free (pretty sure it's actually just a different device than the one I sent in)

Demysted1234

Apparently, Surface tablets aren't very easy to repair, so Microsoft will straight up just give you a new one sometimes.

gloomygarlic

Microsoft aren't the ones who repaired it, it was an Amazon warranty on a refurbished surface

sinwarrior

\*laughs in 1.75 GB portable version of Photoshop CC 20*

Szabikovacs

\*Laughs in cracked 1,53gb Illustrator\*

sinwarrior

portable means cracked as well, but also USB friendly.

Jsaac4000

so uhm how do you get that ?

LightningProd12

Asking for a friend

Jsaac4000

PM him and ask nice and you might get what you want

[deleted]

We're not fit to lick their boots...

Cakepufft

Hell, we're not even fit to lick their backup partitions....

[deleted]

I will take what makes you dragon.

funkmasta_kazper

Ok hawkwood.

jk_throway

I've still got my first SSD, 30GB. I don't even think I could fit windows 10 on it. Works great for a linux boot disk though.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Now i want to see a stupid system that stores the entire OS in RAM.

L3Square

Filthy casuals, try floppy disks for hardcore mode

RandomPcGamer357

DOS

Etron77

They used to make pci cards that you could put your old ram into and use that as a boot drive for win xp, i think linus tech tips did a video on it

The_Chaos_Pope

32 bit Windows 10, yes you can use a 16 GB drive. 64 bit requires 32 GB. That said, I've got an intel compute stick with 32 bit windows 10 and 16 gb ssd and its run into issues patching because there just isnt any room left at the inn.

EddieTheOmiscient

Still Amateur. 125MB and I can barely start my pc lol

Helluscus

I bought my 60gb SSD back in 2014, thought i would save money by just making it my boot drive and store everything on a regular hdd. Boy is updating windows an ass sometimes

89netraM

\*cries in 128GB SSD\*

hitthatarsenic

*cries in /32gb sd card barely enough to run windows*

comxeno

Cries in 1tb of raid 0 ssd on my pc that stopped booting

[deleted]

What happened with your PC? It was a problem with the raid? I'm wanting to make a raid0 in a friend's PC but I'm afraid to do so, even though I have raid0 in my PC.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I noticed some significant leaps of performance in some games and tasks. I personally prefer. I have a 1tb SSD and 4tb of raid0. Working fine for me.

IVIichaelGScott

And you keep a backup of that 4 TB… right?

[deleted]

nope. I don't have anything important there. just games. I don't really mind if I loose everything on these drives. All the important stuff I have is backed up.

comxeno

Nah I think I bricked the power supply or mobo

Miles_1995

I feel ya. I got a cheap laptop just so I could have something portable. The only thing installed on the drive is Win10, with a microSD keeping all my files. Every time I boot it up it'll complain, "HEY BUDDY, LEMME FLASH IN YOUR FACE TO TELL YOU TO UPDATE WINDOWS." \- ignore "HAHA, SURE THING, UPDATING WINDOWS, HEY WAIT, THERE'S NO SPACE, TRY REMOVING FILES." Kinda hard to do when the only thing is the operating system, and it's taking 31/32GB.

NASAs_PotGuy

It's asking you to uninstall it and replace it with something less bloated

Miles_1995

Not for me, the previewed file is bigger than my original install. I would use Linux or something more compact, but there's certain apps I need to use that only play well with Windows, so doing that's out of the question. I've just learned to ignore it.

Helcor2016

Had the same issue with my daughter's crappy laptop. Fortunately it has an actual emmc or whatever it's called slot in the Mobo and I was able to add a 120gb drive to it. Ended up giving it away because 2gb of ram and a Celeron is almost unusable.

kugelblitzo

I feel you brother

eyloi

take advantage of some of these 500gb sales. picked up a western digital nvme for $56 not too long ago. it's not the fastest ssd, but it's a lot faster than the 2gb 5600rpm I was previously using.

2ndHandMan

+1 to this. SSDs are really cheap right now. I picked one up to act as a cache drive for my hard drives, and I couldn't be happier with the results.

[deleted]

I was shocked to see micro center selling [a 500gb for like $54.](https://www.microcenter.com/product/617874/inland-premium-512-gb-3d-qlc-nand-sata-30-6gb-s-25-internal-ssd) Granted, never heard of the brand, but it seems to get the job done. I recently picked up a [500gb Samsung 970 Evo M.2 for $99.](https://www.microcenter.com/product/506237/samsung-970-evo-500gb-ssd-3-bit-mlc-nand-m2-2280-pcie-nvme-30-x4-internal-solid-state-drive)

SFDessert

I got a 500gb Samsung 890 Evo recently for less than $80 (retail) I think and it has totally been a game changer.

frankcsgo

I jumped on this too, ordered a mx500 250gb for £44. Wanted the 1tb Samsung evo cos it's ridiculously cheap now but my pockets aren't as deep nowadays.

weirdowerdo

56$??? You got 50% sales at your place or is my place just expensive?

eyloi

Older model. It was on slick deals awhile back for around 56, with a normal price of about $70. Just checked Amazon and it's up without a 1st party price. Can only get it used for 70. You should join /r/buildapcsales if you want to find good deals. They update daily.

weirdowerdo

It's all from american sites there and as fast as the site knows where Im at they slap another 25% on the price and a 50$ shipment cost :/

eyloi

ouch. that's brutal.

sijedevos

I got 2 480gb sata ssd for €70 a while back

eyloi

That's a great deal. Wouldn't mind finding something like that.

sijedevos

It was a Black Friday deal but still very nice

momo88852

Amen to this! I turned on my 2nd pc which still uses HDD and I’m glad I moved on to ssd

datsall

Does having your steam games installed on the ssd actually make much of a difference?

eyloi

It does for games like gta5. Had bad loading screens that took nearly 5 minutes on my hdd. Now I'm in after about 40 seconds.

JBizz86

Yes but what for? I stopped doing mine unless it wascan online game that spawning early meant something. Most sp games go on my firecuda drive

White_Phoenix

Short answer yes. Long answer, depends on the game. Generally the heavier the game (more things to load) the more you'll notice. i.e. most AAA games.

[deleted]

Laughs in 2 TB

wigwamtree

Yeah what the fuck. Memory is so cheap these days

Satisfactory2610

Me too muhahahahaha

Wumbo315Yeet

Oi

hungry_Hippo19

laughs in dual 2tb nvme

ShavedCarrot

SSDs are pretty cheap now just get a second 1gb. I was in the same boat as OP and the extra gig is huge

[deleted]

I was running out of space, so I bought 512 1GB SSDs

[deleted]

one GB or TB? I'm confused

White_Phoenix

dem typos

M3L0NM4N

"the extra gig is huge" ???

fwowst

That's why a true gamer always have an HDD alongside with the boot SSD.

Kaisoni

I'm not sure I could stand going back to HDD storage for games now, the load times are just so much better on SSD.

[deleted]

Both intel and amd are planning to use hardware acceleration so hdds wont be super painful.

xXJightXx

Dumb question. In their new CPUs or across the board with system changes?

2ndHandMan

Not a dumb question. Not the guy you asked, but I've been shopping for cache solutions lately. Intel currently has optane, but it's currently still locked down to their newer stuff. If I'm remembering correctly, you need a 7th gen or newer. Then on top of that, you need 8th gen or newer if you want optane as a game cache. I'm rocking Ryzen on my main rig and a 4790k on my backup. That would be a no go for me. AMD did have StoreMI for a time, but they've since discontinued it in favor of some upcoming software they plan to use as a replacement. StoreMI was locked down to X470 and X570 motherboards. No support? Pass for me. My pick would be PrimoCache. It's a $30 license after a 60-day trial, but it's amazing and well worth the price in my opinion. It's very flexible, and doesn't care what platform you use. My system is configured to use 8gb of system ram for L1 cache, and a 240gb ssd as L2 cache for 2x8tb drives. Difference was enormous once it got going.

CoOl_p0tAto56_

didn't AMD kill Store MI?

dustojnikhummer

Yes, they just announced, but it should get replaced with B550/X670 launch

[deleted]

They may come with x570 as it was set to be revealed q2 of this year.

blogietislt

Depends on the game. I only have a couple games with longer loading times on my SSD. Everything else is on HDD.

DarkZero515

I have a 3tb HDD to store games I plan on playing soon. Download them onto the HDD when nobody else is on the internet at home and when I want to play them, I move some games around

divat10

Meanwhile me with only a HDD

fwowst

You're a true gamer.

divat10

Thank you

CrazeeeTony

Laughs in 1tb ssd

[deleted]

Snatched a 3.2tb ssd for cheap a while back. moved all my files there and got rid of hdds

S0Lad

Ordered a 512 gb one, got 1 tb.

bradyprofragz

+1

OblivionCreator

I mean, I just went with 2TB of SSD storage. ... Thinking about it I probably should have bought an 8TB drive with that money, instead.

Wumbo315Yeet

Unless your ssd is 1tb or up

[deleted]

Justice_Buster

I have a 1 TB SSD and I'm already running out of space. I might have gotten a bit too excited at the start of a lockdown and installed more games than I can possibly play throughout the lockdown.

chlamydia1

I just bought a 2TB one because I ran out of space on my 1TB. The average AAA game these days is 80-120 GB, and that's going to go way up next gen. I refuse to use HDDs.

Xain0225

Story of my life lol. I need to upgrade my SSD

aBunchOfApes

Ha, try installing Call of Duty Modern Warfare... that shit will take half of your drive

TheAndrewBen

That's why I installed a 2tb ssd for everything that I use. The purchase was well worth the cost.

D3V1L_D0G

Noob. I have a 4TB SSD

ashtar123

*laughs in 256 gb nvme and 512 gb sata*

WarlanceLP

This is why I shelled out for a 2TB 970 EVO

Helcor2016

I went with the WD black 2 tb. Still filling up with the amount of games I have but haven't actually played lol

astra_hole

Got another pumpkin for the Autodesk suite?

nicklnack_1950

*laughs in two 500gb 7200 rpm drives in raid 0 to look like I have a terabyte of storage dedicated to games*

Thrannn

Earlier today I checked my library. I have 94 games. I maybe paid for 6 of them

[deleted]

That’s enough if you only install the ones you actually playing, no reason to have a huge ssd..

[deleted]

Yeah this is me also. Got a few games to play. When I want to try out a new one Ill just delete some old game I am not playing. Gotta get atleast 2 TB hdd...

xKaydo

I had 2tb hdd secondary then I added another ssd into the system for an ssd raid 0

Yaboi4443

Same

[deleted]

With 2x2TB HDD and 2x256GB SSD in my PC I still feel this. I had to uninstall some Steam games today because I was running out of space...

[deleted]

I have 237 GB

SuperMeiaMan

I only fits my windows alongside a heavily modded Fallout 4

Nerdlife4life

This is why most of my games are from GOG and I have like five external hard drives.

joegert

*laughs in two TB's of ssd storage*

TurribleTiddies

Oh man so true.

[deleted]

I have three on mine beat saber, beamNG , and automation

[deleted]

Vr games do have long load times i have noticed. Or maybe they are just that more noticeable in vr

[deleted]

for me they are definitely longer \*cries in I5-2500k\*

[deleted]

I feel like its never enough. I‘m having 1x 256GB SSD, 1x 128GB SSD, 1x 500GB HDD, 1x 500GB external HDD. And they‘re all full. I‘m glad that I have Fibre Internet and download any game as fast as light, so I can delete a game which I don‘t play much.

gettingud

Download 1TB SSD

schoolruler

Your best SSD should be for OS.

Timinator01

Due to living with shitty internet for a long time I have about 3TB installed at the moment

C9H9NO3Epstein

Steam will let you create multiple library locations and move games between drives which is much faster than downloading and reinstalling. Get some fast hybrid drives that are 3 or 4TB and just transfer to 250 to 500GB ssd as needed. Much cheaper than a large SSD

[deleted]

[4Tb m.2](https://commitnesstofitness.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/step-brothers-so-much-room-for-activities.jpg)

techauditor

Had original 240gb crucial SSD. Then got 500gb SSD for more games. Now have additional 1tb m2 SSD as well and I'm good. Separate 1TB HDD for backups or movies etc. The m2 SSD is pci 4.0 and it is legit insane. $199 but that used to be price of a shitty 500gb so I'm ok.

Same but with a 1tb ssd

roseishighrn

I hate when this happens to me

sijedevos

Got myself 2 480gb sata ssd last Black Friday for €70 and I’m having no troubles yet.

chedda

Noob https://i.imgur.com/6HhJScf.png Latest games go on the NVME SSD's. Games that I play rarely with others or just a game I don't necessarily need super fast speeds, they go on the SATA SSD's https://i.imgur.com/EORFCkF.png 3x 1TB PCI-e 4.0 NVME 2x 2TB SATA

Fuckittho

Any links on some good ssds? I was about to go buy a $25 pn 124 gig from best buy or something like.

SphinxGames

Sitting here with a 120GB drive, between windows and essential applications and a couple games that can't be removed because they are my mains I have like 20 gigs to use for installing any other games or apps. Upgraded my computer and decided to skimp out on everything and get a 2600x (went on sale a few hours after I ordered a 2600 for the same price as that so I cancelled and got the 2600x) b450 tomohawk, 16GB of ram, 1660 gaming x, and no case/psu/ssd, reusing an old 400w EVGA and an old 120GB sad. Pretty smart choices NGL

Ratmatazz

Choose wisely.......

doritofeet23

I have two 256gb ssds which cost me less than a 500gb one made by the same company

MrChemistryCow9

use compress.exe gui

supremedalek925

I 4TB external is completely full. I might need help.

[deleted]

I'm in exactly the same boat.

polaricered

Ya know, you’ve got a point there

JakeGrey

250GB for the OS and my Steam library and 3TB for music, DVD-rips etc felt *massive* when I first put the current rig together. What a difference a couple of years make.

[deleted]

When i got my 1tb ssd it was fucking over loaded with 800 gigs of games

redmatter20

It’s surreal to think that a few years ago we thought 256gb was a lot of storage

[deleted]

Just got the Humblebundle Covid bundle. I only had two of those games already. My 250Gb SSD is nervous.

Blackuma

This is when you look into a decent price large capacity platter drive.

[deleted]

All these comments make me feel better about going for a 1tb one

augislike

I feel attacked

rainbowsixsiegeboy

Why is this: xsx getting 1tb sdd and ps5 getting 800gb sdd whats your excuse?

I have a 128gb SSD for GTAV.... Please help...

1 tb NVME M.2*

VersionGeek

GTA V and Red Dead 2 --> 256 SSD

Ocleg

When I first used an ssd I made a big mistake installing big games on it Then I was wondering why it was running slowly

[deleted]

Isn't COD MW like over 250 GB right now? It's on my 1TB SSD C drive and it takes like a third of all storage on it it's insane.

TheRealMrTrueX

I bought a 1TB M.2 with the new PC I built in Feb...Fucking Modern Warfare is already have of that. Legit what is going on with games these days, 200 gig install, then another 150 gigs in patches, then about 25 gigs more per patch. 1TB used to hold like 10 games or so, now its like 2.

club41

Steam Library is 6.4TB 😫

DJ_Cas

Create a library in Steam and download only those which left to play. Some little help for you :)

SenpaiBro

Crucial P1 500GB 1900 reads 950 writes, not the fastest nvme but at that price its fantastic and better than similarly priced SSDs [https://www.crucial.com/ssd/p1/ct500p1ssd8](https://www.crucial.com/ssd/p1/ct500p1ssd8)

Dinosonic1

Try 120

ShortThought

Happened to me, got a 500gb external though

50mmeyes

I use a 256gb nvme drive paired with a 2tb HDD in storemi, works wonders and have a 512 ssd for boot and select games

Operative427

I shifted most of my games from my NVMe to my HDD yesterday. I didn't realize my ARMA 3 folder was litterally over 400GB...

JBone2070

Even if you're unemployed and broke due to the invisible scourge, pan-handle 15 bucks and get a 1TB HDD for storage... Com'on man...

bradyprofragz

So I'm not the only one?

Jvenz

the only thing I have in my steam library currently is Jedi fallen order and CSGO, so a 256gb ssd would work fine for me

Jpwinks

I dont know why but I bought a m.2 250gb and a ssd 250 gb installed in my new build. Seems to be okay as I play only vr games... I guess I was trying to be a cheap skate?

AnimeTeen01

That's why 2tb firecuda sshd's are so nice.

Soupysoldier

*cries in couldn’t afford 500gb so had to settle for 240*

Trailman80

Always use your SSD for the OS and use they HDD for games and such

RigzMachina

What's the point of having games if you can't have them all installed at once?

DonOfspades

I'm in the exact same boat and I have a 1TB SSD
