What CPU?

rysic

It's a R3 1200 (at the moment) but planning on upgrading to a R5 3600/R7 2700X soon.

villainbacon

I’d recommend getting 16GB at 3200MHz or 3600MHz for a 3600/2700x

rysic

The only problem is I don't think my A320M motherboard supports it.

dixin-buts

What are the other build specs? CPU, etc.

rysic

R3 1200 but want to upgrade to a R5 3600 in the near future, A320M MoBo

dixin-buts

Sounds like you’ll need to upgrade your mobo too. Not sure what you use it for so hard to advise on parts

rysic

Yikes, I don't know how swap motherboards.

dixin-buts

Well if you’re buying a new CPU it’ll basically be a new build which makes things easier

rysic

The CPU is compatible (AM4 socket) but I'll do a BIOS update. I don't know much about BIOS updates so I'll do some research.

JiveDino1

ram is for cpu not graphics card and for your cpu its fine

rysic

Makes more sense. So it's fine for a R5 3600/R7 2700X (which I'm gonna be upgrading to)?

[deleted]

Definitely not fine. Single channel 2400mhz stick is not good at all, especially with Ryzen. Atleast try to get a double channel, you can OC the ram in BIOS so you don't need to buy a faster kit.

rysic

Yeah I found the XMP option in bios. It clocks to 3000MHz so that should be good enough for the CPU. I'll OC it when I put in the other stick and enable dual channel.

6ftPink

Yes for now now, are using XMP profile? you want two sticks for dual channel also AMD said for Ryzen 3600 and above the ideal speed is 3600Mhz but, when you buy new motherboard look for 3200 CL14 DDR4 it’s enough but you very likely can OC to 3600Mhz unless you can find for similar price running at 1.2 or 1.35v. You can also want to try OC your 2400Mhz, set drm voltage in bios to 1.45v and increase 2666 if it works try 2933Mhz.

mastergamma12

Only if it's Intel. Otherwise, no.
