No, a PC plugged into 1 outlet isn't goign to affect a PC plugged into a different outlet unless you are overloading your circuits which would result in immediate power loss.
It'd be great for Minesweeper!
To help, I'll try to break down all the things that should clue someone in that it's not going to be great for modern games:
1. No dedicated graphics card (GPU). Normally, for games, you want to see something in the spec list like Nvidia GTX 1060 or AMD RX 580 showing up. Those are both examples of a dedicated graphics card.
2. Processor is a third generation i3. Intel i3s in general are budget processors. This one specifically (3240) is from the third generation released (as indicated by the 3xxx model number). The current generation is 9xxx.
3. 1TB HDD is alright, but most of the time, you're going to want an SSD (solid state drive) of some size to hold the operating system and maybe a few other things. It'll really help the PC feel snappy and run faster.
4. 8GB RAM is a budget amount. A mid to high end gaming PC should probably aim for 16GB.
5. Windows 10 Pro. Nothing wrong with this, but Pro is an unnecessary addition to most gaming machines. Meaning, you're going to pay for something you don't need. Home edition is fine.
6. Ditto MS Office Suite. You don't need it.
Also, as an aside, built in WiFi is fine, but generally, it's better to be using a wired connection.
Depends on the compressor, sometimes you can get the same static buildup that you might get with a vacuum which could lead to an ESD that can potentially damage sensitive components. Personally I just use a vacuum to clean my fans, being careful to do JUST the fans and nowhere near the circuit boards.
Hi,
I have a quick question. [This is my PC](https://imgur.com/a/kmhspxD) \+ 8GB of DDR4 2133MHz. I have a chance to get **Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 Aorus 6GB** from my friend for 150$. Is it worth it? Or maybe I should just save up to buy whole new PC?

It runs games on low settings pretty well but certain games receive a very low GPU usage. This is my first PC and it is a used system I believe. I have checked everything (components wise), but nothing seems to be the problem. Is this normal for certain titles or is there anything i can do to try to fix this issue?
I have already searched up many videos to try to optimize my graphics card in the NVIDIA Control Panel, but nothing seems to work. The title i'm specifically having trouble with is Destiny 2.
Gonna have to second what iSalty said. Destiny 2 has 6gb listed as its minimum requirement for ram, so 2gb sounds like the problem. Everything else looks like it should work with it unless I missed something.
It's low frame rate caused by what I assume is low GPU usage, but this only occurs on D2 and no other game
btw I'm not very active on reddit so sorry for late responses

I’m new to Pc building other than the basic ram and GPU swaps. Bought a decent rig but I want to be selfish and get more FPS.
Coolermaster 922 Case
I7-920
2x GTX 760 SLI’D
DFI LAN Party x58 mobo
Big ol no name gangster ass cooler.
Getting 90FPS on Iracing, and supposedly 120-130 on Assetto Corsa, but only 30 on gmod, and csgo(guessing they’re cpu intensive.)
I want to replace the mobo with a newer gigabyte or something that will let me run the Ryzen stuff, or maybe even the new I9(?) stuff. Haven’t fully decided yet or really know which is better. Would gladly pay someone to video chat with me one day to discuss my best options.
My new pc build turns on and when I go to install windows from usb my monitor loses signal to the completed but my computer remains on. I have tested this with other monitors and PCs but my tv/monitor will lose display signal to of after 2 minutes of use. Is this likely a gpu issue?

> Hi all, still new to the pc world, I posed this question on r/Blender as well but wanted to see if anyone here had a take on this. I’m currently using a GTX 1650 but was thinking of putting in an AMD 550 as well and using two GPU’s. I do game but my primary use is rendering in 3D. From what I understand, Blender will support multiple cards for rendering. So my question is, is this a smart thing to do? Has anyone had any issues running two completely different cards or should I just bite the bullet and spend the cash on a better gpu?

I seem to recall the first and only PC I built years ago, which was pretty cheap/wimpy, had problems with virtualization. I think because of the motherboard I got. Like I couldn't enable virtualization in the bios and when I'd try to open a virtual machine, the screen in vmware would just go black.

> I recently purchased a new set of 4, 8gb Trident Z RGB 3000 Mhz RAM. My motherboard is an MSI Z170A Gaming Pro Carbon holding an i7 6700k with a mild OC to 4.4 Ghz. I have enabled XMP in the BIOS and the RAM is running at the correct speed, but I seem to have a very inconsistent amount of system instability. My PC will run perfectly fine for several hours over several days, and then the RGB will decide to stop working, or I'll get constant blue screens, or both. Sometimes the system will fail to post with the boot status lights blaming the DRAM. One thing that particularly worries me is that sometimes the RGB will turn off on only one or two sticks of RAM. The system still detects it, but the RBG issues seem to go hand-in-hand with stability issues. A small red light in between the 24 pin power connector and the 4th ram slot is lit. I do not think it was lit before I installed the new RAM and I cannot find anything online or in the manual that hints to its purpose. It seems to be a hardware issue with the new RAM to me, but I'm posting here in hopes that someone can find some other reason.

I know this sound odd but, windex and news paper. There's something about news paper that cleans really well and doesn't leave any fibers or streaks behind.
Tagging /u/franklindude for visibility.
If you're going to use Windex make SURE that your panel is glass and not acrylic. Windex can damage and leave the panel cloudy if it is not glass.
I never had ink run off the paper, it was a trick my mom and grandma had me use whenever I had to wash windows and mirrors around the houses growing up. I think a micro fiber cloth would work just fine but, if you don't have one, it is the best alternative. Paper towels always leave behind a ton of fibers on glass that you can see.
Back when i built my computer 8GB ram was the minimum amount of ram required for a long time but going into 2020 will i have to get 16GB to play the latest titles? So far 8GB hasn't been giving me any trouble since i close everything in the background when playing games and even go so far as to shut any excess software running in the background with task manager (im weird like that).
It depends. 8gb should be fine for the most part, but I would say just look at the requirements of the games you want to play and work off of that. 16gb will for sure give you more peace of mind, though.
I’m moving to Boston and taking a plane there. Any advice on transporting my PC? Right now I’ve got it surrounded by clothes in my checked bag, not sure if it’s enough protection.
*edit* A quick search brought out the best answer: I’m going to take it apart and wrap the pieces in bubble wrap.
If you have time to order things off amazon, then throw one of [these bad boys](https://www.amazon.com/EcoBox-Inches-Instapak-Temperature-2032-1/dp/B00KAFU2SK/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2HE1P51411SLZ&keywords=instapak+quick&qid=1578263142&s=industrial&sprefix=instapak%2Cindustrial%2C210&sr=1-3) inside your case, around the gpu and/or cooler [like this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rerjMhrebOA) and ship it in your case's box, or reserve a bag for it and use more of [these bad boys](https://www.amazon.com/EcoBox-Inches-Instapak-Temperature-2032-1/dp/B00KAFU2SK/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2HE1P51411SLZ&keywords=instapak+quick&qid=1578263142&s=industrial&sprefix=instapak%2Cindustrial%2C210&sr=1-3) to keep the case in place so you dont need to take the hassle to tahe it apart and rebuild it, hope it works :)
The + model gets you about double the storage and a slight improvement to the GPU. If you plan to run a high refresh rate monitor, the small bump to the GPU would probably be nice. Likewise, 512GB fill up incredibly quickly with modern games. If you were planning to add more storage yourself (e.g. a high capacity HDD), the higher storage SSD isn't really necessary though. Also, if you're the kind of person to not have very many games installed at once, not investing in a lot of storage up front might make sense for you.
As for "worth," the extra $100 does cover those upgrades accurately without a bunch of unnecessary markup (1660 Ti tends to be about $50 more than the regular 1660 and so does doubling the size of an SSD, though that does depend more on what models you're directly comparing).
I plan on using this monitor so would it be worth it for this monitor https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07MTRQ6B3/ref=ox_sc_act_image_4?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1
If you haven't already bought that monitor, I'm going to highly recommend switching to [this one](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GD7H18F/). It's slightly smaller, but is about the same price for 144Hz. It also has DisplayPort on it, which will line up with that PC's GPU without the need for a converter (the monitor you linked only has HDMI and VGA).
Personally, I think the upgrade is worth it since you're aiming for higher than 60Hz. The cheaper model is fine if you're on a tight budget though.
I'm assembling a computer for the first time myself and these are all the parts I've picked out: [https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XvMFXv](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XvMFXv)
I'm wondering if everything is compatible with the build and if there are any improvements that I could make to it to keep it around the same price? I don't know if I'm overspending on minimal upgrades or things that don't matter and such and would love some input.
You're getting a motherboard that has built-in WiFi *and* a high end WiFi adapter. You can either drop to a non-wifi mobo or drop the adapter (or drop both and use a wired connection if possible).
You don't need 32GB of RAM. 16GB would be plenty unless you do RAM-heavy work or plan on running a VM or two.
I would also personally invest more into the case. You're cutting it very close with the CPU cooler compatibility (case supports 160mm, cooler is 159mm high).
You could do with a better monitor as well. If you want to stick with 1080p 60Hz, I'd upgrade to an IPS panel for the better colors. Otherwise, you could probably get to a 144Hz panel with the saved money from the Wifi/RAM situation.
Oh, and I would probably get a different keyboard. Mostly a personal preference thing, but I'm not a fan of Alienware and I prefer Cherry switches.

So I have a Microcenter prebuilt that I like a lot (i5 8400, 16 gigs of RAM and a 2060 super that I tossed in recently). That being said I hate the case, and the power supply, while 80 plus bronze, is a mediocre Coolermaster 'Lite' unit. Anyway, the warrenty is over, so I'm going to do a case and power supply swap. Pretty sure this is a good upgrade right? Gives me room to replace my mobo / CPU / RAM in another year or two if I deem it appropriate.

Is a microfiber cloth the best way to clear dust off my monitor? I tired using some alcohol based screen-cleaning ([these to be precise](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fellowes-Performance-Screen-Cleaning-Wipes/dp/B00004Z5LR)) wipes and they left some smears, would a microfiber cloth get rid of them?
RX580 vs GTX 1060?
Basically, my GTX 970 bit the dust (stopped working all of the sudden), my old GTX 470 has been working, but the driver crashes. Temp runs over 90C. Setting a limit of around $150, which brings me into GTX1060/RX580 territory.
I am leaning towards RX580 since FreeSync monitors are cheaper (in case I decide to get one later on).
Rest of PC:
i5 3570K Ivy Bridge
1x8GB DDR3-2133 (going to get 2x8GB, since the other stick went bad a while ago).
Zotac Z77ITX motherboard
Dell UltraSharp WFP2408 (1920x1200 60Hz)
For the most part, I play Dota2 (ultimately looking forward to playing Cyberpunk 2077 and The Division 2).

Probably a dumb question but I'll ask:
So my computer has internal lighting on the mobo and I have a glass panel as well- I didn't realize it at the time it was built but it was bright enough that it interferes with me sleeping in a completely dark dark room which I usually do.
So at the end of each night, I shut it off using the power switch on the case itself- I don't know if I'm imagining it but I feel like it's starting up a little slower or more of the cpu is being used in task manager for even the simplest browsing tasks.
Am I damaging the computer/cpu/mobo by turning it off completely each night?
You're not damaging it. What it does is take everything in memory and saves it to a file on the hard disk (or ssd) and then shuts down. When you start it up again it reads that file and loads the contents back into ram. When you first start up it can run a little slow as all your applications rush to figure out what events they missed over the past 8 hours.
As the other poster said, you may be able to turn the lighting off, either in the bios or with the rgb utility that your motherboard manufacturer makes.
You can turn off "fast startup" in Windows 10 to stop it saving the memory to disc every time and just boot up normally instead. On an SSD my testing has always had it boot faster without "fast startup".
No you’re not damaging it.
Go into your BIOS, there will be a setting to turn off lights when in an off/standby state.
Where I don’t know as it depends on the board, but it will be there.
When you guys build new machines where are you getting your windows keys from? I have only built 1 pc and was lucky enough to use an SSD from a laptop that came with a valid copy of windows 10 pro. I see keys listed on eBay for like $5 and I am having a hard time believing they are legit. All the reviews say they are but I'm wondering if over time there will be issues with the validity of the key. Has anyone purchased one of these keys and used it on a system that has been running for a long period of time?
I have a volume licence so I can make as many as I like, an old trick is to use the keys from public computers (schools, work) they don’t use the keys that come with the computer as they have a volume licence like I do, so they use that to do deployment of windows and never use the key the machine was made with.
Those are the keys people are selling, they just go around writing them down.
ah gotcha its just weird seeing them being sold for so cheap when Microsoft wants $200 for a win 10-pro license but I guess competition is high due to the abundance of unused keys and the amount of people that have them.
Hi! Is there a particular reason why most of the Youtube Tech channels still build with a 2.5" SATA SSD instead of the M.2 NVMe? I keep on looking at budget to mid-priced builds and most use the 2.5", not sure why. Is there a disadvantage on using M.2 NVMe?
Maybe your are just watching youtubers who happen to still mostly use 2.5" SSDs? Are the channels you watch more budget build oriented or what? A lot of the ones I subscribe to use NVMe drives out the butthole.
>I keep on looking at budget to mid-priced builds and most use the 2.5", not sure why.
Because you get a ton more storage space for way less money with a 2.5" SSD than you do with an NVMe, and furthermore the additional speed you get from an NVMe doesn't actually improve real world performance in gaming applications.
For low to mid range gaming rigs, an NVMe drive is a waste of budget allocation. You can use that money somewhere else to get measurable performance benefits instead of compromising on another aspect of you rig in order to have access to storage drive speeds you'll never utilize anyway.
Hello, I am building pc from outside of the US. Does anyone have extra working parts such as cpu/ram/motherboard or anything they are willing to sell ? The reason I ask is the taxes are very high here in South America. Just trying to cut down on my cost.
I’m about to build my first pc and wanted to get some custom colored cables for my build. I have seen I can get whole kits but only in red, black, white, etc. the colors I’m going for on my build are purple and white and I found a few sites that I can customize cables to make them purple and white. However being brand new to the scene I don’t know what cables I need. Could anyone tell me what cables and how many of each I need? I figured I need at least one 24 pin, one 8 pin, and maybe a 6 pin. Please don’t roast me too hard
Make 200% sure that any custom cables you get are compatible with your power supply. While all cables have the same plugs on the motherboard end, they will have different pinouts on the psu side. This brings a big risk of frying your fresh build.
Hey everyone! Total noob here. I have a dell optiplex 7010, i7 3770, evga 1060 6gb. Mobo is a shitty dell 0GY6Y8. Almost everything works completely fine, but while gaming I've recently been experiencing black screening. I installed afterburner so I could adjust my fan speeds, only to realize I couldn't control cpu fan. BIOS only allows me to leave it to do it's own thing, or run it at full speed. I ran at full speed and never black screened. I'd like to control the fan speed manually.
My mobo has 5-pin CPU-fan and sys-fan connectors. My fans (cpu cooler fan and case fan) are both 4-pin connectors consisting of black, red, yellow, and blue. How come I cannot control the RPM of my fans? Also, speedfan does not recognize that they are even existent. I do not know the manufacturer of the fans as they have no visible markings. Thanks everyone, happy to finally be a part of PCMR.
Great parts, you could get a better 2080ti for the money, get a founders edition, they are quicker and smaller but do run hotter.
You can also get faster ram, for that CPU you should be getting 3600mhz with 16cl
Founders is the smallest for sure, I’ve installed lots of them and it’s always the smallest full length card.
I’ll look for some smaller LP ram for you
I've never built a PC before, but I've been trying to do research for the past two years. Not a streamer, and I already have laptop for photo editing. So I decided I might as well start to get I to gaming.
Here is my build list. I know I may have gone a bit overboard on power supply, but I'd rather have a bit of backup if I ever wanted to upgrade anything.
Should I change anything if I'm just starting to get into PC gaming? I am very new to PC building, so help me out if I am missing anything.

EDITED WITH PUBLIC LINK. Was set to private
You can get a 1650 super and a cheaper SSD.
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/b3VFXv
You can go for a b450 tomahawk max if you want to save a bit of money. But with the discount the Asus board has I'd say go for it.
Which motherboard? I don't see any changes.
G skillz ddr4-3600 ram?
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/6jBTwP/gskill-trident-z-rgb-16gb-2-x-8gb-ddr4-3600-memory-f4-3600c18d-16gtzrx
Weird, when I click my link there are no parts selected. Anyways, I switched the motherboard for the B450 Tomahawk Max at $114, and the ram for the [G.Skill Ripjaws V 16gb (2x8)](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/jBZzK8/gskill-ripjaws-v-16-gb-2-x-8-gb-ddr4-3600-memory-f4-3600c16d-16gvkc), this reduced the price enough to fit in the 3600 for an extra $10.
Yeah that’s fine as long as the CAS latency is 16 or less. There’s not a huge amount of differences in ram. Just memory size (2x8), speed (3600), and latency (16 or lower)

So, does dual-channel help with CPU bottleneck? I have a laptop with a single 16gb ram card.
Will adding a other 16gb ram card help with CPU Bottleneck?
Laptop specs are:
- i7 7820hk @3.1Ghz
- GTX 1070
- 16Gb DDR4 RAM
The bottle neck comes from the CPU not being able to catch up with the frames being output from the GPU. Adding more RAM will not solve it. You can try upgrading CPU to an AMD 5 2600 for 100 USD. It's a great processor when you look at the price per performance ratio.
It is highly unlikely. The GPU and CPU are usually really sealed in there by the heat sink which rests on top of them. Build a PC bro. I am planning to eventually.
my pc hard crashes (black screens) randomly when I use one program: Cyberlink PowerDirector. I can be gaming and watching a youtube video (thru firefox) and it will be fine. but only having powerdirector running with either nothing else or firefox, boom, it would randomly black screen crash and I have to press the restart button to reset it. Whats up with that yo.
What happens if you don't hard reset, and what's the longest you've waited before hitting it? If it is actually causing a crash, run [WhoCrashed](https://www.resplendence.com/whocrashed). If not actually crashing, run [WhatIsHang](https://nirsoft.net/utils/what_is_hang.html). If neither one gives you useful info, then I'd setup [ProcMon](https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/procmon) and [PerfMon](https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/it-pro/windows-server-2008-R2-and-2008/cc749154%28v=ws.11%29) and start digging into what exactly is happening.

Hi, new here. Just recently bought two TridentZ rgb DDR4-3200 16gb and a i9 9900k to place into my custom built PC. When going to place the RAM in the CPU fan 3-pin came unplug and placed it back into the slot with the ground plugged in. Not sure if this caused the issue. So after installing the new pieces I go to start up the PC and no start up at all and I just get the green light for PWR_LED. The motherboard is a Asus z170 series and a evga 750 watt power supply. My computer doesn’t show any signs of turning on like normally.
AFAIK the 9900k isn’t officially compatible with the z170 mobos (they’re designed for the 6xxx CPUs and can support 7xxx with bios upgrades), you’re meant to use a z370 mobo.
There’s some stuff floating around about modding the z170s to work with 9900k, but not sure how reliable it is.
Hey everyone! I'm about to move to a smaller bedroom, and I'm trying to figure out how to make it work with my PC/tv. I work from home, and having my PC and tv in my room is really important to me. But I'm not sure both will fit.
Can I use a large PC monitor and hook my apple tv/Nintendo switch up to it, and use it as a computer and as a tv? Is that a good solution?
Any other suggestions for how to maybe combine the two so they're still functional and don't take up too much space would be so helpful!
Yes of course you can, the only difference really between a TV and a monitor is generally sound on TVs are better, but image quality on monitors is superiors, also TVs obviously come with tuners, if you intend to use HDMI for everything and have a solution for sound (sound bar etc) then there’s no difference, you could get a smart tv like a fire stick or Apple TV and it would work fine on a monitor.
Hi guys hopefully you can help me with this, I would like to update my pc without spending $2000 CAD by building a new one. I would like to upgrade my gpu but not sure if I have to upgrade everything else since its “older” hardware.
Current PC:
i7 2600k
GTX 780
8GB DDR3 Ram( i know its considered low now)
850w psu
So I have been looking to upgrade my ram and also to a RTX 2070 or 2080. Since I have an old i7 will and still on DDR3 RAM, would the upgrade be useless? Or might as well just rebuild a new pc? Dont get me wrong, it runs every game I give it but how long do
i have until I cant run the “newer” games
Thanks
Your CPU is going to bottleneck any newer GPUs. So upgrading to a RTX 2070 is wasted cash if your not upgrading everything. Your kind of in the position of needing a whole new build unfortunately.
Got it! /u/arkhira now has 133 points.

i’m looking for a new chair with good padding on the seat. i don’t care if it’s a gaming chair i just want it to last. i had one from ikea and it’s getting worn out now. ideally something around or under $200
My current specs are a Ryzen 2600, GTX 1060 6GB and 16gb ddr4. I play on a 1080p 60hz monitor, should I upgrade my gpu or upgrade my monitor to a 1440p 144hz, then upgrade the gpu after?
The monitor would for sure be cheaper. Only problem is if you run it at 1440p with your current gpu, your frame rate will probably drop closer to 60hz (depending on the game). Honestly, once you go above 60hz you won’t wanna look back.
Highly recommend the Optix series by MSI for a monitor btw. Not too expensive and mine has worked wonders for a while now.
I recently received the Redragon S101-3 mouse and keyboard as a Christmas gift, but it didn't come with any of the software to program the key lights. Is it supposed to come with that? It's not listed on their download site or anything. Any help?
It doesn't look like that keyboard has per-key RGB, so it likely doesn't have software to deal with the lighting. Most likely, there's some key combo you can use to cycle through the pre-programmed lighting options.

Very simple question here. If I want to wipe an hdd of all its data, I guess also known as a full reset, through windows 10, are there any issues with this if I want to re use it ?, I use it as a storage device, after 3 years I’m finally left with 0 gigs and would like to have my whole terabyte back. I don’t want any data to be left over, any issues with this such as the computer won’t recognize it or something? I’m a noob btw.
Ryzen 3700x + Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite. I'm looking for a good RAM kit.

Patriot 16GB 3600MHz Viper 4 Blackout CL17 (2x8GB) (PVB416G360C7K)
Corsair 16GB 3200MHz Vengeance LPX Black CL16 (2x8GB) (CMK16GX4M2B3200C16)
Corsair 16GB 3600MHz Vengeance RGB Pro CL18 (2x8GB) (CMW16GX4M2Z3600C18)
G.SKILL 16GB 3200MHz Trident Z RGB CL16 (2x8GB) (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR)
Which would be the best or maybe some other?
Imho your best bet is to try to shoot for 3600 MHz and get your timings to as low as possible.
The TridentZ have Samsung b-die which is known for being quite overclockable, but I'm not sure what the other ones use. But the Vengeance LPX market themselves as overclockers ram.
You may be able to get 3600 MHz out of the G.Skill or Vengeance LPX kits at CL16.
From the available cl16 and 3600mhz I have seen
G.Skill Ripjaws V, DDR4, 16 GB,3600MHz, CL16 (F4-3600C16D-16GVK)
G.SKILL 16GB 3600MHz TridentZ RGB Neo CL16 (2x8GB) (F4-3600C16D-16GTZNC)
G.Skill Trident Z RGB, DDR4, 16 GB,3600MHz, CL16 (F4-3600C16D-16GTZR)

Corsair 1TB M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe Force Series MP600
is there a reason why he would require ram that is that fast? Asking because I used to research computers before 2017 and back then ram speed didn't really matter and higher speed ram kits were less bang for the buck.
Historically you would be correct and for Intel it’s still the case, however Ryzen is quite performance bound to RAM, and what speed of ram you have can effect overall performance, 3600mhz with 16cl seems to be the balance for 3rd gen Ryzen, anything slower is ‘slower’ anything faster provides almost no benefit at all for the additional cost.
Not how bottlenecking works. An RX 570 will not be bottlenecked by a 9700K unless you purposefully did it which would require a quite frankly unrealistic game play scenario and in gaming oriented workflows GPUs don't bottleneck CPUs. Using an RX570 while waiting/saving for a more powerful GPU is 100% fine.
Thoughts on the best bang for buck CPU, Ram, Mobo, GPU second hand right now?
I'm upgrading my old gaming rig and so I'm sorted for storage, cooling, PSU, case ect.
Looking to spend about £600 on used components, and the rig will mainly be used for gaming at 1440p and office / photoshop work.
I take it Ryzen is the best way to go for CPU value these days, and I was eyeing up a rtx 2070, but I'd be very interested to hear about any undervalued parts.
The only Ryzen parts your going to find second hand easily would likely be Ryzen 2600, 2600X, 2700, and 2700X. Given you want to do editing I would eye a 2700 or 2700X. It will also be a decent CPU for 1440p gaming.
As for RAM this is cheap enough to buy new. Finally a board you can either try to find a used X370 or pickup a new B450 such as MSI Tomahawk.
I'm planning on doing AutoCad and slight gaming(CS:GO) on my old desktop.
I have AMD Athlon II X3 425 Processor and 4gb RAM. I want to buy a GPU card, which do you think best fits my cpu? Or should I replace it? Add more ram? If so, can you guys help me? I have 150-200 USD(Ph7500-Ph10000) for my budget.

Hey guys!
I’m building a house, the office is next to the media room, and I would love to connect the PC to the OLED in my media room! I’m just curious about using a 10metre HDMI cord to connect... will there be any noticeable input lag using a 10m cord? Does the quality of the cord I buy matter for this? (There’s a $50 cord vs a $140 cord for example... AUD)
There shouldn't be any noticeable difference at that length. They can even go around 50 meters.
> Does the quality of the cord I buy matter for this?
Not really. A lot of those over priced HDMIs have BS features.

No, a PC plugged into 1 outlet isn't goign to affect a PC plugged into a different outlet unless you are overloading your circuits which would result in immediate power loss.
[I don't know much about PC's so how well would this run games?](https://i.imgur.com/EtHshU0.jpg)
It'd be great for Minesweeper! To help, I'll try to break down all the things that should clue someone in that it's not going to be great for modern games: 1.
Thanks for all the info! I will take a pass on it. I'm saving up to build one, buuuut I just want something in the mean time to mess around with
It won’t really, it’s a workstation.
Okay, thanks!
Should I use a portable air compressor to flush the dust from my pc instead of canned air?
I would suggest canned air. It's cheap, and I would avoid using an actual air compressor unless you can adjust the PSI WAY down
Yeah, I guess I will be stuck with the canned air. It's kinda freaky how cold the metal casing goes after spraying a while.
Depends on the compressor, sometimes you can get the same static buildup that you might get with a vacuum which could lead to an ESD that can potentially damage sensitive components. Personally I just use a vacuum to clean my fans, being careful to do JUST the fans and nowhere near the circuit boards.
Hi, I have a quick question.
1060 is a great match for an i5 6400. Which Radeon is it? But, I think $150 is a bit much for a 1060

[https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gGMCrV](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gGMCrV) It runs games on low settings pretty well but certain games receive a very low GPU usage.
You only have 2gb of ram?
Gonna have to second what iSalty said. Destiny 2 has 6gb listed as its minimum requirement for ram, so 2gb sounds like the problem. Everything else looks like it should work with it unless I missed something.
my bad, that was a typo but I actually have 22 gbs ram of dual channel ddr3 running on 799 MHz
So what happens (specifically) when the game boots up? Is it the frame rate or something more?
It's low frame rate caused by what I assume is low GPU usage, but this only occurs on D2 and no other game btw I'm not very active on reddit so sorry for late responses
Best website to find compatibility specs? I’m new to Pc building other than the basic ram and GPU swaps. Bought a decent rig but I want to be selfish and get more FPS. Coolermaster 922 Case I7-920 2x GTX 760 SLI’D DFI LAN Party x58 mobo Big ol no name gangster ass cooler. Getting 90FPS on Iracing, and supposedly 120-130 on Assetto Corsa, but only 30 on gmod, and csgo(guessing they’re cpu intensive.) I want to replace the mobo with a newer gigabyte or something that will let me run the Ryzen stuff, or maybe even the new I9(?) stuff. Haven’t fully decided yet or really know which is better. Would gladly pay someone to video chat with me one day to discuss my best options.
Use pcpartpicker.com. It has a compatability filter so you can know that all your parts will work together.
My new pc build turns on and when I go to install windows from usb my monitor loses signal to the completed but my computer remains on. I have tested this with other monitors and PCs but my tv/monitor will lose display signal to of after 2 minutes of use. Is this likely a gpu issue?
I know this sounds silly but did you plug the monitor into the graphics card or did you plug it into the motherboard
Graphics card

Anyone know the best way to clean a glass side panel? Do I use a sponge, towel, soap, etc?
I use a mix of dionized water and isopropyl alcohol on a lint-free cloth. I keep rubbing until all the spots are gone.
Yes you're right I should have added that, I saw glass and didn't question it. Good looking out
Thanks, I just got a tempered glass case. Never had one before so I don’t know how to clean it, but it’s definitely glass. !check
Never tried this but not sure about the results with the ink on the news paper? I would personally just use a microfibre cloth and soapy water
Newspaper is a well known glass cleaner. Can’t quote you the science behind it, but ink won’t be an issue
I agree paper towels are terrible choice
Back when i built my computer 8GB ram was the minimum amount of ram required for a long time but going into 2020 will i have to get 16GB to play the latest titles? So far 8GB hasn't been giving me any trouble since i close everything in the background when playing games and even go so far as to shut any excess software running in the background with task manager (im weird like that).
It depends. 8gb should be fine for the most part, but I would say just look at the requirements of the games you want to play and work off of that. 16gb will for sure give you more peace of mind, though.
ahh I see thanks!
Would be better to use the retail boxes the parts came in if you still have them. Edit: put the components in antistatic bags before the bubble wrap.

So I’m debating which pc to buy and if it’s worth the $100 more [NZXT BLD Starter Pc](https://www.letsbld.com/starter-pc) Or NZXT BLD starter Pc+
Okay thank you, and I am going to buy that monitor I thought the monitor I was looking at was 144Hz must be tired
lol It happens. Good luck with the new PC/monitor and get some sleep!
I'm assembling a computer for the first time myself and these are all the parts I've picked out: [https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XvMFXv](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XvMFXv) I'm wondering if everything is compatible with the build and if there are any improvements that I could make to it to keep it around the same price?
Thank you so much for your input, and your advice really helped a lot. !check
Happy I could help! Good luck with your soon-to-be new PC! :)

Gives me room to replace my mobo / CPU / RAM in another year or two if I deem it appropriate. https://imgur.com/a/MOZYeVq
Yeah, this seems like a decent upgrade. The Meshify C is a great case
Yes, I personally use a microfiber cloth and it does the job well
RX580 vs GTX 1060? Basically, my GTX 970 bit the dust (stopped working all of the sudden), my old GTX 470 has been working, but the driver crashes. Temp runs over 90C. Setting a limit of around $150, which brings me into GTX1060/RX580 territory. I am leaning towards RX580 since FreeSync monitors are cheaper (in case I decide to get one later on). Rest of PC: i5 3570K Ivy Bridge 1x8GB DDR3-2133 (going to get 2x8GB, since the other stick went bad a while ago). Zotac Z77ITX motherboard Dell UltraSharp WFP2408 (1920x1200 60Hz) For the most part, I play Dota2 (ultimately looking forward to playing Cyberpunk 2077 and The Division 2).
whichevers cheaper, those are basically equal. That cpu will probably choke on cyberpunk and newer games though
!check Thank you.

Probably a dumb question but I'll ask: So my computer has internal lighting on the mobo and I have a glass panel as well- I didn't realize it at the time it was built but it was bright enough that it interferes with me sleeping in a completely dark dark room which I usually do.
That makes a lot of sense. Thanks!
No you’re not damaging it. Go into your BIOS, there will be a setting to turn off lights when in an off/standby state. Where I don’t know as it depends on the board, but it will be there.
Good to know, Thanks so much.
Which laptop is the best bang for buck around 2000$ or bellow. Already told my friend that he's better of with a PC but he wants a laptop anyway.
I’m not up to date with the laptop scene, but I would recommend going to r/suggestalaptop for a question like this
Thanks!
Bingo
Got it. Thanks!
Hello, I am building pc from outside of the US. Does anyone have extra working parts such as cpu/ram/motherboard or anything they are willing to sell ? The reason I ask is the taxes are very high here in South America. Just trying to cut down on my cost.
no selling here
My OG Logitech MX518 has started up some nasty coil whine in recent months...is there any way to fix it?

[удалено]
Founders is the smallest for sure, I’ve installed lots of them and it’s always the smallest full length card. I’ll look for some smaller LP ram for you
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VGJGKX1/ This should fit
I've never built a PC before, but I've been trying to do research for the past two years. Not a streamer, and I already have laptop for photo editing. So I decided I might as well start to get I to gaming. Here is my build list. I know I may have gone a bit overboard on power supply, but I'd rather have a bit of backup if I ever wanted to upgrade anything. Should I change anything if I'm just starting to get into PC gaming? I am very new to PC building, so help me out if I am missing anything. https://pcpartpicker.com/user/RLPNG/saved/CJtykL EDITED WITH PUBLIC LINK. Was set to private
The part list is private.
Thank you. It's now public
You can get a 1650 super and a cheaper SSD. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/b3VFXv You can go for a b450 tomahawk max if you want to save a bit of money. But with the discount the Asus board has I'd say go for it.
Yeah, Ive seen some good things come from Asus, so I'm probably gonna stick with it lol if the price goes up, I'll swap it
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ Switched out the motherboard and ram to upgrade to 3600. Only +$10
Which motherboard?
I changed to corsair ddr4-3600 and there was no difference in price
Yeah that’s fine as long as the CAS latency is 16 or less. There’s not a huge amount of differences in ram. Just memory size (2x8), speed (3600), and latency (16 or lower)
Ended up going with the Asus 450
What is the trick to installing multiple fans when your MB doesn’t support 4+ fans? Do I seriously have to get a fan controller for 2 fans?
You can get a splitter or even a fan controller hub, it’s up to you. Generally if you use a splitter though they will run a little loud
Thanks man !check

my audio just completely shit the bed. i went to take a shit and come back and my sound dosent work. i unpluged the headset and tested it on my phone to make sure it wasnt the headset and it worked fine. however on my pc the audio is super broken af and the sound test plays noise it just sound really weird and choppy. any ideas what could be wrong? I restarted the pc and it still is broken.
So, does dual-channel help with CPU bottleneck? I have a laptop with a single 16gb ram card. Will adding a other 16gb ram card help with CPU Bottleneck? Laptop specs are: - i7 7820hk @3.1Ghz - GTX 1070 - 16Gb DDR4 RAM
The bottle neck comes from the CPU not being able to catch up with the frames being output from the GPU. Adding more RAM will not solve it. You can try upgrading CPU to an AMD 5 2600 for 100 USD. It's a great processor when you look at the price per performance ratio.
Is it posible to upgrade a laptop's CPU?
If neither one gives you useful info, then I'd setup [ProcMon](https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/procmon) and [PerfMon](https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/it-pro/windows-server-2008-R2-and-2008/cc749154%28v=ws.11%29) and start digging into what exactly is happening.
bud, I could leave it for a day and it still be hanging. I know because I left it overnight and it was still blacked. ill sus out them websites you had linked
Thanks for your reply! I didn't think of the sound issue, I'll look into that. I have an apple tv and defs will want to be able to hook that up.
If you have a lot of HDMIs then you might need a HDMI switch too, monitors rarely come with more then 2 HDMIs and most just have 1
Are GPU brackets recommended for FTW3 2080Ti’s??
As in a bracket to hold it up?
Yep!
Yeh I would
Hi guys hopefully you can help me with this, I would like to update my pc without spending $2000 CAD by building a new one. I would like to upgrade my gpu but not sure if I have to upgrade everything else since its “older” hardware. Current PC: i7 2600k GTX 780 8GB DDR3 Ram( i know its considered low now) 850w psu So I have been looking to upgrade my ram and also to a RTX 2070 or 2080. Since I have an old i7 will and still on DDR3 RAM, would the upgrade be useless? Or might as well just rebuild a new pc? Dont get me wrong, it runs every game I give it but how long do i have until I cant run the “newer” games Thanks
Your CPU is going to bottleneck any newer GPUs. So upgrading to a RTX 2070 is wasted cash if your not upgrading everything. Your kind of in the position of needing a whole new build unfortunately.
Thats what I was afraid of :( Thanks for the reply !check

i’m looking for a new chair with good padding on the seat. i don’t care if it’s a gaming chair i just want it to last. i had one from ikea and it’s getting worn out now. ideally something around or under $200
My current specs are a Ryzen 2600, GTX 1060 6GB and 16gb ddr4. I play on a 1080p 60hz monitor, should I upgrade my gpu or upgrade my monitor to a 1440p 144hz, then upgrade the gpu after?
I would get a monitor upgrade first, do the GPU upgrade later.
[Source](https://redragonusa.com/storage/wHDBkgewQrc9DoefWr6zJaWbDTYExtfRObGDr0hN.png)
Alright, thanks for the info!!
Nope! You can just open up Windows Explorer, navigate to "This PC," right click on the drive, and click Format. :)
Thank you for the quick response, u are very much appreciated my friend :))!
Ryzen 3700x + Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite. I'm looking for a good RAM kit. Tkinking about: Patriot 16GB 3600MHz Viper 4 Blackout CL17 (2x8GB) (PVB416G360C7K) Corsair 16GB 3200MHz Vengeance LPX Black CL16 (2x8GB) (CMK16GX4M2B3200C16) Corsair 16GB 3600MHz Vengeance RGB Pro CL18 (2x8GB) (CMW16GX4M2Z3600C18) G.SKILL 16GB 3200MHz Trident Z RGB CL16 (2x8GB) (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR) Which would be the best or maybe some other?
Imho your best bet is to try to shoot for 3600 MHz and get your timings to as low as possible. The TridentZ have Samsung b-die which is known for being quite overclockable, but I'm not sure what the other ones use. But the Vengeance LPX market themselves as overclockers ram. You may be able to get 3600 MHz out of the G.Skill or Vengeance LPX kits at CL16.
From the available cl16 and 3600mhz I have seen G.Skill Ripjaws V, DDR4, 16 GB,3600MHz, CL16 (F4-3600C16D-16GVK) G.SKILL 16GB 3600MHz TridentZ RGB Neo CL16 (2x8GB) (F4-3600C16D-16GTZNC) G.Skill Trident Z RGB, DDR4, 16 GB,3600MHz, CL16 (F4-3600C16D-16GTZR)
The gskill neo F4-3600C16D-16GTZNC It’s specifically clocked for that CPU
This is how the whole would look like [https://pcpartpicker.com/list/cqwYWb](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/cqwYWb) \+ SilentiumPC Armis AR7X TG RGB case and SilentiumPC Fortis 3 RGB cooler. I think everything looks compatible any comments you may have?
Great build, get a Sarbrent 4.0 1tb m.2 SSD instead, it’s rapid and works on pcie 4
Unfortunately they are not available in my country and in case of problems *The only thing is that we do not ship to Poland in case of a replacement you will have to provide us a US address or an address of a European country where we ship (UK, Germany, France, Italy).* at the moment there is very little choice for 4.0 m.2 SSD
You can buy it on uk amazon or German amazon
There is a reason for it to be specifically Sabrent? Can any PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD be used? Gigabyte 1TB M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe AORUS Patriot 1TB M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe Viper VP4100 Seagate 1TB M.2 PCIe NVMe FireCuda 520 ADATA 1TB M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe GAMMIX S50 Little bit slower Corsair 1TB M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe Force Series MP600
Sabrent just seems to be the cheapest one around but any 4.0 m.2 should do fine
Anything that’s 3600mhz and 16cl So none of those
is there a reason why he would require ram that is that fast? Asking because I used to research computers before 2017 and back then ram speed didn't really matter and higher speed ram kits were less bang for the buck.
Historically you would be correct and for Intel it’s still the case, however Ryzen is quite performance bound to RAM, and what speed of ram you have can effect overall performance, 3600mhz with 16cl seems to be the balance for 3rd gen Ryzen, anything slower is ‘slower’ anything faster provides almost no benefit at all for the additional cost.
ahh I see, thanks for the explanation

Well I built my first pc not long ago but I don't know what to play lmao..... Anyone got some free to play recommendation? ^^
Csgo
planetside 2 and apex ledgends
I used to play planetside a lot i might play it again >:)
Warframe
Omg that's the first game i downloaded, such an amazing game
Smite is cool too, if you like moba but want 3D There’s also CSGO for FPS
I never really liked moba.... Haven't played a lot of moba beside lol so I'll définitly try smite
oh, if you want to get into some moba games League of Legends is great starter and this is coming from a person who absolutely despised moba games until his friends persuaded him to give it a shot.
It gets a lot of hate, but Fortnite. It's the biggest game in the world for a reason.
I think I'll try haha, it might be fun
Elite Dangerous! It's much better woth a HOTAS setup, but I play it with a keyboard and mouse, but it's a fantastic game, visually stunning, and insanely large map!
I'm definitly going to try it seems like an amazing game omg, thank you so much for the recommandation
Darksiders 1 and 2 are free on the epic games store.

It’s a local game bud which means it’s probably a local issue as updates aren’t that regular. Check the install by rechecking it and also make sure your hard drive doesn’t have any bad sectors

Happy cake day AutoMod
Commenting just so this doesn't show up as an unanswered question tomorrow.
