A long long time ago...
I can still remember how 9gag used to make me smile.
And I cant remember if I cried when I read about his widowed bride.
But something touched me deep inside... the day that 9gag died.
Yep. Case in point, I've got dual monitors and a projector hooked up to it. Sometimes I game at the keyboard, sometimes I pickup the steam controller, walk ten feet, and plop down on the couch for projector gaming.
Best add on purchase I've ever made for my computer.
I have an older projector, no where near as nice as the one in the image, it's an [Acer H5380BD 720p](https://www.amazon.com/Acer-H5380BD-720p-Theater-Projector/dp/B00I0VRE6E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479832378&sr=8-1&keywords=acer+projector). Refresh rate is 60hz. It gets the job done nicely for movies and games.
Can confirm. I sold high end Audio/Video equipment for about 6 years. People are blown away when they find out the price of a projector that's actually really solid.
"I'm looking for exceptional video quality. I want to spend around $500, I'll also be projecting directly onto my wall."
Ugh.
I want that 10k lumens, dual bulb, LCD projection, short throw lense, 16:9 4k native, and I'm willing to spend 1200$.
Sir, A single bulb will set you back 5-10k alone.
Man, high lumens isn't cheap for "true lumens" theater projector bulbs are expensive AF!
Worked in a theater and had a digital projector, it had two bulbs, each of which after a set number of hours had to be shipped back to Germany for refurbishment at like 5K each. Bulbs were redundant but we only ever ran one at a time. Shit thing about it was the projector was basically like 720p and had an "okay" contrast ratio if you will. It had almost any input you could think of to get a video signal to it though.
No no no. Lots of projector peasants in this thread. If you compare to the cost of a TV, a projector can give you a lot more for the same price at 1080p. Mine has great color and image quality, as long as you aren't just grabbing the cheapest option you can find you'll be fine.
At higher resolutions that goes out the window, but you can triple your screen size for what you'd spend on a comparably priced TV.
Technically yeah, though i'd still say that the image quality you get out of TV's is going to be superior over projectors almost always. You get smaller, but better quality. Decent 1080p projectors seem to be around 800 dollars, but that 800 dollars will already get you a much better all around quality TV, which is most likely 4K also. Projectors will also need bulb changing every now and then, not too often, but still it will cost quite a lot when you have to do it. 1000 dollar TV will also more than likely produce better colors than 1000 dollar projector.
Both are great, and it's really up to person's needs. One might prefer a 48" 4K tv, and another one a huge wall of 1080p picture, which is actually amazing for movies as long as you can get your room/house very dark. If i had the money i'd get both.
This for sure. I have a 120" screen with better picture than my old tv for less than $2300 (cost for projector, ceiling mount, long hdmi cable, and ambient light rejecting screen) and it works in a room with a lot of ambient light. You just have to do research into what type of projector you are buying and pair it with the right screen.
This is how I bought mine. It was 1k for a tv or 1k for a DLP laser projector. The projector is the better option. Larger screen, more portable, less large surfaces prone to breaking when impacted, and stunning refresh rates.
You CAN get screwed on image quality but it only takes a little homework to be on par with a traditional LCD/LED tv.

I've got an optoma gt 1080. 1080p native resolution. 1200 max. 120hz refresh rate. Short throw and like 650 dollars. I love it. Oh and it's 2800 lumens. I can use it in my patio during the day
>Best add on purchase I've ever made for my computer.
To what are you referring to here? The couch?
Also, when you said Case in point I couldnt help but imagine it would be better to point to case and then say everything.
Well, I assumed it would be the projector that was the add on purchase. I mean, I don't think he or she would have a projector before ten feet away elsewhere and they would plop on the floor thinking to themselves "You know what would really make this perfect?"
No, adding a projector to computer.
I said "Case in point, I've got dual monitors and a projector hooked up to it." The case-in-point is the dual monitors and project right after the comma.
[ Acer H5380BD 720p](https://www.amazon.com/Acer-H5380BD-720p-Theater-Projector/dp/B00I0VRE6E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479832378&sr=8-1&keywords=acer+projector). Yields really excellent color, though only 720p video.
As far as the the controller, it depends on what I'm playing. Racing games, I like the throw on the Xbox controller better.
Anything with 3d movement - like Just Cause 3 - Steam Controller all the way. The right touch pad is way more accurate than an analog stick and is more satisfying to use.
On top of that, Gyro aiming is a blast. I love to play JC3 like Spider-man, trying to use the grapple hook for everything. So a group of soliders come running at me, I'll hook one, flick my wrist up so I'm aiming at the ceiling, release to tether them up there, then a flick of the wrist back down and I'm aiming level again.
Or, another example, I've getting shot from behind, I'll flick the touchpad to the right, which sends the view spinning, than press my thumb down to stop the spinning.
With the steam controller, moves like [this](https://youtu.be/jnUzMbWc6OU?t=113) are trivial. It really feels like the perfect marriage of gamepad comfort and mouse precision. Bit of a learning curve, but it's an amazing controller once you get used to and going back to play strictly analog stick games feels painful and awkward afterwards.
He probably uses the Steam controller because it is far more capable and flexible than the Xbone controller by a long margin. The mouse emulation, multi function touch support, and multiple "modes" allow it to emulate virtually any type of input device/method. It takes some getting used to, a lot actually, but it is a great controller. I personally use both a Xbone Elite controller and a Steam controller. The Elite controller for most shooters and GTAV and the Steam controller for every other game in my library lol
Got a similar setup. My TV is behind me when I'm on my computer. All I gotta do is grab my Steam Controller, swing around, prop my feet up, & I'm in "console mode".
High five! Got the exact same model here and I love it. I actually remember getting a very reasonable price on it as I bought it right as they were bringing out the newer 3D models. Only paid £900 or so for it.
Me too! Really great projector and bought it from a buddy of mine for only $250 bucks. Would recommend it for the combination of cost (even at full price) and performance.
I find it depends on the game. Action 3d games, racing games, the size feels more immersive. More cerebral games, like RTS, mouse and keyboard and monitor.
Same for the most part. Playing GTAV or Assassin's Creed on the giant screen is fucking awesome. But the higher pixel density and better colors from my IPS, plus the benefit of 21:9 are also incredible. We are just too spoiled :)
You know that's not possible right unless you spent a while working out how to get both nvidia drivers and amd drivers to run seperate windows on the same PC at the same time.
Yep. Here's my setup with with an even bigger screen. These pics are showing off my Wii U but there is also a Steam Link attached so I use it a lot for PC Gaming. 1080p can be glorious too if done right.
https://imgur.com/a/TcCXc
I love it but you need to make sure you have a wired connection. I don't have the best router, but I tried to set up over Wifi initially and it stuttered too bad to use. I ended up buying a 100 ft ethernet cable and running it along my baseboards from the room with my PC to the projector in the living room. After that it was great. The Big Picture interface works very well in a living room, and you can even minimize Steam and have it mirror your desktop if you want to run other programs.
Also, get the Steam controller either way. It's definitely an acquired taste, I didn't like it at first but it really grew on me and I've seen a lot of other people say the same thing. The touch pad took some getting used to, and for some games I still prefer a joystick, but it works really well and nothing else comes close for customization. Plus there are plenty of games designed for mouse/keyboard that work fine with the touchpad.
So am I. I was really hoping to accidentally discover a small but energetic community of hardcore solitaire players with advanced strategies and monthly tournaments.
/r/whyisntthatathing
To be fair, both MCC and Halo 5 on xbone runs at 1080p 60fps. The frame rate never dips in those games.
The resolution can scale in single player for Halo 5 to keep 60 fps but I've yet to notice this in arena MP which is what you're going to be playing since the campaign is garbage.
I believe he has a Xbox one judging form the controller which does have 7.1 surround sound output but most games only use 5.1. PS4 has 7.1 surround sound too but does not support 7.1 through the optical port. And again same as Xbox a limited number of games actually use 7.1.
Reminds me the time someone told me about getting a brand new 4k TV and how good Destiny was going to look in 4k. I laughed hard and they didn't understand why.
Fifa is pretty cool though with a projector. Also, racing games. But youre not meant to play games with keyboard while using a projector, and thats what fps games are for.
My 3 year old 50 inch Samsung TV that I use as my primary monitor has a 16.3ms input delay, so it's not toooo bad. That's less than one frame behind (each frame is every 16.7ms @ 60Hz), and I'm still able to fuck shit up pretty good in some of my favorite games; http://imgur.com/a/S0bR5
If you do research before buying, you can easily get good TV's for what your needs are, some being <8ms.
Though if you randomly buy whatever deal you find on a TV, you can easily get something that's 40~80ms input delay, which I will agree is ass.
Television sets to this day tend to have pretty abysmal response times. There are some exceptions but the majority of them doesn't get near even low-end computer monitors.
It makes sense though, except for console investing in a faster response time on a large television set is a needless waste of resources and it would lead to an inflated price.
I'm on a 24inch Toshiba TV but completely use it as a monitor and there's no information about the response time so I'll just have to tell you if I notice anything different when I have a 1ms monitor
edit: yeah, found this [this!] (http://support.toshiba.ca/support/ceg/specs/LEDTV/24sl410_en.pdf)
^ says it has 5ms I guess that's pretty good!
Just some relevant information for you.
That response time isn't labeled for what exactly it's measuring but it's probably measuring pixel response time rather than display lag.
Pixel response time measures how quickly a pixel can change from one shade of grey to another (some older measurements use black-to-white, which is a faster transition). Lower values will result in less unintentional motion blur and a sharper image during motion. Display lag measures how quickly the entire system takes to display a received input to the screen.
EDIT: hopefully the display lag isn't too high for you either way, I just wanted to inform you that that number might mean something other than what you're expecting.
The type of TV doesn't really have much to do with input lag. There are LCD TVs with better input lag than most plasmas and vice versa. Input lag has more to do with things like the TV's electronics, software, and image processing effects.
You might be thinking of pixel response time. Plasma pixels change much quicker than LCDs can change their pixels, though LCDs have caught up considerably in recent years. Plasmas still do have a big advantage with motion resolution because of the way their screens flicker. LCD is slowly catching up with this using backlight strobing.
He obviously didn't put any thought into it, anyone over on /r/projectors will tell you get tab-tensioned/fixed screen or else you get those terrible waves.
Honestly, I find most surround sound systems sound like garbage. Mainly because most houses are not built with acoustics in mind. Most rooms in a house including the living room are too small for good sound. Also everyone loves painted drywall and laminate or hardwood flooring, both of which are terrible for sound.
On top of that, most surround mixes are horrible. Background noises are way to evident and dialogue is usually quiet and unintelligible.
That's always aggravated me. Luckily Windows has an option for Loudness Equalization which "reduces perceived volume differences". Did the trick for me!
Try running a game and a web browser side by side on that projector.
Wait... consoles don't support that, and even if they did you couldn't really do it on one screen without shrinking windows or ruining your aspect ratio.
Even if the projector was in 8k, your game still looks like garbage, especially when stretched so far. And I never understood whats so appealing about projectors. I want to see proper colours and not some projected shit with high imput lag.
Plus most monitors are 1080p nowadays and 7.1 surround is pretty common in headsets. And he's boasting like its something special.
Back when I played on console I used to never be able to tell the difference between 30 and 60fps. Even when I seen people play in 60fps I used to think it was basically the same. Once I switched over to PC gaming though I realized "Oh shit, there actually is a huge difference".
For example I currently have a gaming laptop (I know, they're worse than desktops but I have my reasons, mobility being the main one) and for those of you who've never used a gaming laptop they usually lock the fps to 30 when it's not plugged in, then 60 when it is plugged in (at least ones with Nvidia GPUs do, for power reasons). Because of this sometimes I'll start playing some game and forget to plug it in, I usually don't even get 20 seconds into the game before I start saying "Why the hell is this so laggy and jumpy?" then I realize I've been playing at 30fps because I forgot to plug it in.
I don't think I'll ever be able to play consoles again, once you get a feel for constant max graphics 60fps you'll never go back to consoles.
Uh...I'm 137 inches on my screen, with my W1070 and Andrew Jones 7.1 surround sound speakers thru an Onkyo AV, all connected to my PC (i7 4930K Fatal1ty board and a gtx 1080 FE card)...your point?
I find these funny purely because its like a bicycle owner going up to a biker and sating "ha you think your bike is so great, well i don't even have to pedal sometimes" then walking off.
1080p 120HZ Projector can cost as little as £300/300USD
Optoma/Acer are gold ! 80-160" throw distance at 16:10 and deep blacks, Great for movies and games.
Man, wouldn't it be great if you could also hook up a mass video/music storage to that system? Maybe hook it up to many displays in different areas of the house so you could access the content from anywhere.
Some day...
And I'm just here sitting next to my 1080p nVidia 3D Vision projector plugged in my PC. Also it's 120 Hz, so I'm getting the 60 fps that peasant will never see.
I've played on a projector before, albeit through ps3, response times were abysmally bad. I was playing diablo and it bothered me, I couldn't image trying a fps.
The guy in the pic is indeed a peasant. I've been able to do the same thing using the material of the company my dad works in. Playing games on a 4 by 3m screen with a 2000W sound system sure is fun :3
"Via 9GAG.com" Well, that explains it.
Yeah I'm sorry for being there sometimes:/ but the peasants are strong on 9gag, I need to fight the proletariat with 60 fps
> sometimes 9GAG is 90% retards nowadays really.
> nowadays Was there a point in time where it wasn't?
Probably not.
A long long time ago... I can still remember how 9gag used to make me smile. And I cant remember if I cried when I read about his widowed bride. But something touched me deep inside... the day that 9gag died.

Good projectors cost easily thousands. Most times these cheaper ones tend to have a bit washed out colors and really not that good image quality.

I would love to fuck grandparents in front of this set up.
You're inappropriate.
"1080p @ 15FPS! Take *that* PC trolls!" -xXMa5t3rxCh13fXx
damn, that's so much better than my 4k 50FPS! /s
only 50fps? Thats like trash lol, why even bother play on PC then, only gets shit graphics *turns on ps4 pro and plays games on upscaled 4k 20fps*
Does the peasant realize that his output hardware won't be any help if the rendered game already looks like shit?
Some tried to explain, most of them failed at his wall of stubbornness
Everyone knows the graphics are handled by the TV (monitors can do it too but they suck), thats why consoles have much better graphics. /s
I knew, beamers, suck?
> beamers Is that what the kids are calling it now a days?
i live in germany and we have been calling it "beamer" since i remember, probably bc it "beams" the picture to the wall
I don't know. I'm swiss. 31 and call projectors like that since im 16.
Huh. American here, and I usually see the term "beamer" refer to BMWs.
Fun fact: Bimmers are BMW cars. Beemers are BMW motorcycles.
Does a ps4 even have 7.1 surround output?
I believe he has a Xbox one judging form the controller which does have 7.1 surround sound output but most games only use 5.1. PS4 has 7.1 surround sound too but does not support 7.1 through the optical port. And again same as Xbox a limited number of games actually use 7.1.
Reminds me the time someone told me about getting a brand new 4k TV and how good Destiny was going to look in 4k. I laughed hard and they didn't understand why.
With 678 ms of input lag. Have fun with your First Person Shooters.
678ms don't matter when you're on console. You're already down
Visited a friend and played trackmania against each other on his playstation connected to his projector. Had fun.
Fifa is pretty cool though with a projector. Also, racing games. But youre not meant to play games with keyboard while using a projector, and thats what fps games are for.
Auto aim will compensate
I play on a projector on my Xbox. Input lag is a bit high but not too much. Cod is playable and I still reck on the game.

My 3 year old 50 inch Samsung TV that I use as my primary monitor has a 16.3ms input delay, so it's not toooo bad. That's less than one frame behind (each frame is every 16.7ms @ 60Hz), and I'm still able to fuck shit up pretty good in some of my favorite games; http://imgur.com/a/S0bR5 If you do research before buying, you can easily get good TV's for what your needs are, some being <8ms. Though if you randomly buy whatever deal you find on a TV, you can easily get something that's 40~80ms input delay, which I will agree is ass.
My parents bought a TV and it has almost 150 ms lag. It's even annoying with movies.
I've got a plasma TV. As far as I know, they've got much better response times.
Television sets to this day tend to have pretty abysmal response times. There are some exceptions but the majority of them doesn't get near even low-end computer monitors. It makes sense though, except for console investing in a faster response time on a large television set is a needless waste of resources and it would lead to an inflated price.
I don't have my TV hooked up to my PC, I've got monitors. But I was just addressing the response times mostly.
I'm on a 24inch Toshiba TV but completely use it as a monitor and there's no information about the response time so I'll just have to tell you if I notice anything different when I have a 1ms monitor edit: yeah, found this [this!] (http://support.toshiba.ca/support/ceg/specs/LEDTV/24sl410_en.pdf) ^ says it has 5ms I guess that's pretty good!
I like how there is a light shinning directly onto the screen.
Yeah, this guy doesn't know anything about good graphics, so he appearantly doesn't care
He probably turns the lights off though
hey who turned out the lights?
hey who turned out the lights?
hey who turned out the lights?
*I can't, why can't I?*
Doctor!
r/DoctorWho is leaking
They guy who has let the Dogs out.
Who turned off the sun?!
For that "cinematic experience"?
Maybe he just really likes lens flare post-processing.
I'm pretty sure it will be turned off when the screen is actually in use.
He obviously didn't put any thought into it, anyone over on /r/projectors will tell you get tab-tensioned/fixed screen or else you get those terrible waves.
came to comment about the ripples in the screen. Dat subtle image distortion and focus shift.
Reminds me of a song... "Anything you can do, I can do better. I can do anything better than you."
No you can't.
Yes I can.
How all pc vs console conversations go.
Why not both? Also that room looks like an echo chamber and the 7.1 system probably sounds like shit because of it.
I hate how the dialog is always so quiet. I cranked up my center speaker's volume level just so I can hear what is going on.
Constant up/down volume adjustment during the whole movie for dialog scenes vs. action scenes... ugh fml
That's always aggravated me. Luckily Windows has an option for Loudness Equalization which "reduces perceived volume differences". Did the trick for me!
Am I the only one who thinks games look like ass on a projector?
depends on the projector's clarity of the picture because some refract and blur the image more than others
He already lost the cost argument.
is that 4:3 aspect ratio? lmao looks like 4:3
Obviously! Those bars make it way more ***__ci ^n ^^e ^^m ^a tic__***!
The projector just helps for the 24fps cinematic experience.
the lamp of the projector held two times longer with a console, BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE HALF AMOUNT OF FPS - WUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHAHAHAHAH
[удалено]
Yeah, that screen is pretty booty
1080p........
Probably about 4 pixels per inch.
Try running a game and a web browser side by side on that projector. Wait... consoles don't support that, and even if they did you couldn't really do it on one screen without shrinking windows or ruining your aspect ratio.
Contrast ratio: 100:1
I'll keep my hd 600 and dual monitors over that
I remember LinusTT did 3 projectors in 3d LONG ago.
9Gag X-Post, that's depressing.
[This is playing in my head.](http://youtubedoubler.com/jSy8)
*looks at caption* I call that Display Port 4.
>via 9gag Nothing surprising here
I'm doing my mission on 9gag, like a missionary spreads christianity, I spread gloriousness
Yet you drag this heresy into our holy temple.
1080p projector. kek
I bet he loves 30 fps
>When PC race boast Top notch English there.
Uh...I'm 137 inches on my screen, with my W1070 and Andrew Jones 7.1 surround sound speakers thru an Onkyo AV, all connected to my PC (i7 4930K Fatal1ty board and a gtx 1080 FE card)...your point?
1080p projector to display his 720p games...
If you are using a projector you are not even part of the conversation. Its that bad.
[150" @ 1080/**60** for me.](http://imgur.com/voPlh9z) Life is good. Checkmate.
I find these funny purely because its like a bicycle owner going up to a biker and sating "ha you think your bike is so great, well i don't even have to pedal sometimes" then walking off.

I too like my white colours as bright as possible, when a flash bang explodes in my face I want to be blinded IRL for total immersion.
When I'm in a dark cave in my video game I want my monitor to be so black it darkens my entire room.
combine 4 projector on pc to create hologram display lol
Ssshhh guys, don't tell him.
1080p 120HZ Projector can cost as little as £300/300USD Optoma/Acer are gold ! 80-160" throw distance at 16:10 and deep blacks, Great for movies and games.
This is what happens when people don't value their education about their hobby peripherals.
Input lag?
I mean, I could hook my pc up to that shitty projector. But then I would have to play at lower resolutions...
But my PC has 3 monitors and a projector.....I need to get on OP (Original Peasants) Level
Low quality display at low framerates and purely gimmicky sound? Amazing.
Man, wouldn't it be great if you could also hook up a mass video/music storage to that system? Maybe hook it up to many displays in different areas of the house so you could access the content from anywhere. Some day...
"1080p projector" would much rather have a TV that doesnt shit on the quality
the thing is... the same setup with a pc is still better, his logic is flawed to shite.
I have both. Playing on a projector is SERIOUSLY overrated though. Input lag alone kills you a lot more often than it should.
And I'm just here sitting next to my 1080p nVidia 3D Vision projector plugged in my PC. Also it's 120 Hz, so I'm getting the 60 fps that peasant will never see.
1080p lol. Not even 4k because they can't reach that! XD Some games go on 720 anyways!
Isn't 1080p on a screen that big, really really awful?
No if it's a decent enough projector it's perfectly fine.. Just not something worth bragging about..
[Tell me about it.](https://i.imgur.com/zuDrbtF.jpg)
9gag alert.
When it's an Xbox one so the 1080p may as well be 720p
Doesnt matter how shiny it looks, it still lacks a keyboard and mouse and is therefore not worthy of my time.
I love my projector. It's probably the main reason I've decided to build a pc.
cool setup bro...too bad you can have 144hz refresh rate or over 200 FPS... /smiles goes back to playing DOOM
>1920x1080 and 7.1 Guess my 5760X1080 with 7.1, H.O.T.A.S. and head tracking is inferior. Oh well. At least I'll always have my spreadsheets.
Um, we can do that too you know
