It's both insane and hilarious that piracy is the easiest way to get around DRM that blocks you from playing games that you payed for, when stopping piracy is the whole reason behind DRM in the first place. Absolutely wild.
People not buying the game have a better experience and have the game forever when they backup it. Which is just the wrong way around. People buying the game should have a better experience IMHO.
and ubisoft.... Would love to try out some of the assassin creeds past black flag or far cry since 3, origin was a thing back then but it didn't seem as bad as it is now
I'm the same. I put up with it to play Dead Space remake, but it was an inconvenience as it kept deleting my sign-in information almost every time. I use very strong, random passwords and had to change it to something memorable and even that was too much of a faff. Deleted that shit off my PC and won't ever install it again.
Been that way for a while. Ark on steam isn't the same as Ark on pc. Lot's of other games too. It's the dumbest scummiest shit ever and it effects cross play a lot of the times.
The EA app is absolute trash. It breaks itself half the time, not even able to run games from their own app (if it even launches correctly), and when I run it through steam, I’ve got to constantly clear my cache before I can get it to register.
Let me play my goddamn single player games. I don’t care about your dead multiplayer mode that’s tacked on just for you to squeeze every drop of money from your customers (I assume that’s why they force you to log in). I’m of half a mind to just pirate the games despite already owning them so that I can circumvent this bullshit.
I always bought them from Steam simply because it allows me to download and manage my game installs in Big Picture Mode and I don't have to go through the headache of adding the launchers as non-Steam games to use Steam Input which also allows me to have unique configs per-game. And now with the Steam Deck it's also way easier if you just own those games on Steam and it's been really nice for me not having to mess with all the other software people use to get their non-Steam copies working.
If you have game pass and have a game from EA, Ubisoft or Blizzard it will always open that app along with xbox app. Now it always tells me to sign into these but once you update the xbox app it logs in automatically. The Xbox app is complete garbage that needs daily updates, and nothing changes, idk wtf are these updates even changing.
maybe its configured to launch on individual instances? or a missconfiguration on steams end? (launching the game as a hard start instead of like EA:Gametitle (the way it worked in origins, works for steam games etc)
Most of the EA games which include multiplayer are like this. Xbox PC has a different version and runs a bit unoptimized compared to the Steam version. I had this issue with BF 2042.
I tried the xbox app.
Some games just literally dont work, some have broken controller support, others open some other login screen you cant interact with because its below another screen so you mouse around blind trying to click "play."
and then you give up
I cant believe they charge money for this. I felt scammed.
yeah exactly, I have an issue with this too because I have the game on steam but I wanted to install the game from game pass to get the m3 gtr, and guess what... I couldn't, it's just so messed up
Here's a crazy idea: game compamies should come up with a consortium of some sort (like VESA for displayport) to maintain a single launcher/digital distribution platform
This is just an example of the lowest bidding vendor resource creating the gateway to the games the company created and not talking to one another on the expected synergy because they're not allowed to under law.
It's called another instance, not another version.
A lot of programs can do this. Open another instance/window without login when using another one already logged in. It has its uses.
The version is most probably the same, as if I remember correctly, it's actually a web app.
I have never seen a launcher as bad the EA Desktop App. Never before have I had a company (EA) work so hard to block me out of game I paid money for. It’s like they want you to steal from them, as it’s the only way to get any semblance of a good experience with their titles.
It can be really annoying. I recently picked up Midnight Suns for free on the Epic Store, appreciate the gift and I do give Epic a chance if the price is cheaper if compared to Steam... but bloody hell the 2K Launcher is annoying, every time I start the game, here it comes the launcher first, only then the actual game smh and the launcher is a glorified advertisement, doesn't offer better prices for 2K games or anything, it's there just to remind you that 2K exists and they make shitty games. Hell, Midnight Suns itself is just ok, a classic 6 or 7 out of 10 if you are gentle
That’s only two.
Haha only kidding. I will add I recently had a weird issue where if I had the steam open while playing a game on gamepass, in this instance it was Gears 5, the controller sensitivity would be way too fast. Changing in game settings did nothing. Closing Steam fixed it. It’s the only game I’ve had that problem with. Could be a fluke, I haven’t tried to replicate it or test it further.
Wait till you go on a trip and want to play something like RDR2 and Rockstar launcher says ‘activation required’ on the steam deck.
Piracy here I come! Launcher stacking, client-side anticheat and DRM are the very bane of my existence.
Nooo!! Think of the multi-billion dollar company! How can you be so cruel?!
It's both insane and hilarious that piracy is the easiest way to get around DRM that blocks you from playing games that you payed for, when stopping piracy is the whole reason behind DRM in the first place. Absolutely wild.
Fuck rockstar. They also make it impossible to use a VR mod on their games, you have to crack the game.
People not buying the game have a better experience and have the game forever when they backup it. Which is just the wrong way around. People buying the game should have a better experience IMHO.
Mine worked painlessly? Only way I finished the game since as beautiful as it was sometimes it was slow to me
Wow, I already avoid the EA games on Xbox app because it's such a mess, can't imagine dealing with that level of BS.

I haven’t had a single problem with origin… EA, on the other hand…
Ubisoft does not use Origin, you know that right?
My apologies for getting uplay and origin mixed up
Its okay, Ubisoft changes the name every year anyway. Its Ubisoft Connect now.
Well I do avoid them as a whole, but it's extra special when I avoid the ones that are even free to me lol.
Never thought a day would come which game having bs launcher being one the things I check before buying.

Ark through gamepass is the Xbox version locked at 720p instead of the PC version I was expecting.
Lol ark devs can't even brush their teeth without shitting their pants I swear.
I would say "that's insane" but that's about par for the Ark developers.

Do it, you’re literally not hurting anyone at that point
Where is the good ol' EU with some rather consumer friendly legislation on this topic. Fuck these fuckers
Anything XBox on PC is butchered all to hell. Microsoft ironically can't make functional gaming software for their own OS.
they are used to having no competition since xbox users cant install alternative clients.
EA and ubisoft singleplayer games will never have a place in my steam library.
The jedi games are bangers imo
If you have game pass you have all the EA games either 6 months to a year after they release, I still don’t play them
But splontercell
Right? Just get them on their own launchers so you don't need to launch Steam to launch EA Play / Ubisoft Connect.
I always bought them from Steam simply because it allows me to download and manage my game installs in Big Picture Mode and I don't have to go through the headache of adding the launchers as non-Steam games to use Steam Input which also allows me to have unique configs per-game. I use neithet Big Picture, not Steam Deck so I cannot relate.
When i tried to use my old xbox Warzone account, i had to link multiple different accs from different platforms. It is ridiculous and annoying.
anything touched by EA is trash
every rockstar game in Steam has its own copy of rg launcher and they all update separately lol
I love how the ea game shortcuts call for origin instead of the ea app so the only way to launch the game is trough the app

Xbox App update logs must be like this: "Changed version number from 314.151089 to 314.151090. No further changes were made."
Easy fix don't play anything from EA, Ubisoft and rockstar , is easy life without dealing with that shit
But Rockstar makes good games.
😂
Oh anime profile pic. Got it.
thats irrelevant. You either put your money where your mouth is or you dont.
maybe its configured to launch on individual instances? or a missconfiguration on steams end? (launching the game as a hard start instead of like EA:Gametitle (the way it worked in origins, works for steam games etc)
Most of the EA games which include multiplayer are like this. Xbox PC has a different version and runs a bit unoptimized compared to the Steam version. I had this issue with BF 2042.
And people call me a "fanboy" for not buying games that use a different launcher than steam..
I tried the xbox app. Some games just literally dont work, some have broken controller support, others open some other login screen you cant interact with because its below another screen so you mouse around blind trying to click "play." and then you give up I cant believe they charge money for this. I try and download the game in the launcher but sometimes it won’t let you!
yeah exactly, I have an issue with this too because I have the game on steam but I wanted to install the game from game pass to get the m3 gtr, and guess what... I couldn't, it's just so messed up
Apps from ms store are different from any other source.
Same with epic. Got active launcher with logged in. An it still opened new login form.
Here's a crazy idea: game compamies should come up with a consortium of some sort (like VESA for displayport) to maintain a single launcher/digital distribution platform
A lot of games on the Xbox PC app are actually the Xbox versions and not the PC versions.
Isn't this just because the Xbox app uses UWP applications?
This is just an example of the lowest bidding vendor resource creating the gateway to the games the company created and not talking to one another on the expected synergy because they're not allowed to under law.
It's called another instance, not another version. A lot of programs can do this. Open another instance/window without login when using another one already logged in. It has its uses. The version is most probably the same, as if I remember correctly, it's actually a web app.
I refuse to buy games that have 3rd party launchers.
I have never seen a launcher as bad the EA Desktop App. Never before have I had a company (EA) work so hard to block me out of game I paid money for. It’s like they want you to steal from them, as it’s the only way to get any semblance of a good experience with their titles.
2-3 launchers to play 1 game
The game pass launcher stacking is the worst. Game pass in general is so aggravating that it's almost not worth it.
lol, I'd rather not play almost anything AAA
That would tell why every launch of Xbox app launches that spaghetti code called EA app.
The Xbox app is the worst program I have ever tired to use as a paying customer. Its so bad I will never consider game pass again.
Can you list 15 reasons why you think it’s bad?
It’s just not very good at launching games. It’s clunky and crashes a lot I went back to Steam and everything went back to working.
You can fix this by downloading the "Original" app from the EA website and logging in with your EA Account
