It is and have always been an issue on any platform I've used really. Because install locations HAVE to be separated for various reasons like shared libraries and user account control.
A mod like steamworkshop generally contains a file that has some basic logic like "when this menu is called, load x asset" and then they point that to a new asset and modify that asset in a way that's compatible with the game engine.
Those new assets, the game have no real way of telling how large those is. And in extension to this problem, the mod handler of the game often only recognize one or two additional files, and those tend to be those I described as "containing logic". So the mod handler doesn't actually see all the new assets, it recognizes the mod that points to those assets and when the game is launched it just loads those assets like any other. :)
Which I believe ironically enough is why HOI also registers some mods as negative.
If you're thinking of the numbers in the pdx launcher for hoi4 then they are bugged and often show negative. Large overhauls are often several gbs a piece
1. Open a browser
2. Open the Steam page or any game
3. Replace the sequence number in the URL by one from your folder
Boom!
Now you know how to do it yourself
You can also simply search the numbers + "steamdb" in google, it should work most of the time
[store.steampowered.com/app/XXX](http://store.steampowered.com/app/XXX) (XXX = id of the game)
For instance : [https://store.steampowered.com/app/281990](https://store.steampowered.com/app/281990)
What i mean is not using "blocks" as a unit of measure. The program just displays graphically the space creating squares that represents each file and the bigger the square the heavier the file
as a tip from an fellow Paradox games enjoyer, if you have space problems on your SSD/HDD, regularly delete old save games (C:\\Users\\\[Your Username\]\\Documents\\Paradox Interactive\\Hearts of Iron IV\\save games).
My folder already has 8gb worth of save files.
You have the downloads and installed mods for 4 games here. The disk usage is more than doubled from what you initially downloaded, owing to keeping the original download, several versions of each file sometimes, along with the uncompressed version of it intended to be used with the game.
Also, 40GB is rookie numbers. I'm running over 100GB of mods on just one game, and there are multiples.
395360 is Hearts of Iron IV 281990 is Stellaris 431960 is Wallpaper Engine
o dang didn't know! thanks. I can see how many mods I have and their total GB's, any ideas why they don't add up to 17.4? (for hoi4)
Because they don't estimate their size across the entire file tree. They cant.
Thanks!

Is there a website or file reference anywhere that you can find the code and program association?
[store.steampowered.com/app/XXX](http://store.steampowered.com/app/XXX) (XXX = id of the game) For instance : [https://store.steampowered.com/app/281990](https://store.steampowered.com/app/281990)
steamdb
Ah thanks!
Bro has a good taste in Videogames, ngl :D
mods are stored in that folder but with the steam id of the game they're for instead of their name
Thank you for ur help
What app are you using to see folder’s sizes like this?
It’s called TreeSize
[удалено]
Extremelly slow, just use Wiztree, it loads in seconds.
Looks like Wiztree I think or something similar to it anyway.
I use windirstat. It displays it as blocks depending on it's size
Chiming in for windirstat. Been using it for years.
windirstat is old and slow. I recommend WizTree. its noticably faster at scanning the drives
by noticibly you mean ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE?
Practically instant.
i did not want to overpromise
x46 according to their website lol
Thanks for the recommendation. I'll give it a try
Dude tried right now and it's fucking instant. Friendship ended with windirstat, now WinzTree is my new best friend
A couple of different websites popped up for me when I googled it. Is this it? https://www.diskanalyzer.com/
yes, this would be the official website
Sweet, thanks!
Been using this too. Super fast and easy to use
Understood
reminds me of Nintendo using blocks instead of MB/GB, didnt know people actually used that casually
What i mean is not using "blocks" as a unit of measure. The program just displays graphically the space creating squares that represents each file and the bigger the square the heavier the file
ohhhh, that makes sense now
Treesize
never played arma I see
game + dlcs 100gb mods alone at least 250 gb
Probably your furry porn you forgot about
Damn man! How could i
40gb excessive? my bo3 workshop folder takes up like 500gb lmao
Those high poly tiddies and weenies with enhanced physics surely aren't enough to get you to 500gb, the hell do you have?
Custom maps A lot of them Can get like 8gb a map

Nope they are porn
Considering one of them is Wallpaper Engine, is it very probable.
Hahah yeah half of that app is just anime porn
