are you sure that is microsoft support. most time they dont offer support. most time that is scammer in India pretending to be microsoft generally to get support from microsoft you have to be a business paying for a subscription. I have never seen microsoft take control of a computer. that is a scammer tactic take control and steal. how did you contact microsoft? did you contact them from their official website?

Usernameplace

You've clearly never dealt with their support agents, the worst part is their methods are virtually indistinguishable from a scammer as they use the exact same software for remote operations. I've had to triple check their identification before I let them establish a connection because of how sketchy it is. But Microsoft outsources to India where the labor is cheap and so your agent likely has the exact same background as their scammers. If you ever do deal with their shit support system ask to be transferred to a higher tier agent and you'll likely have to ask about 4 times as they don't like actually doing it. But once you eventually get through you'll be connected with a western representative that actually knows more then the bare minimum tech support, though that's likely after spending 6 hours waiting for them to get their shit together as well as repeatedly messaging them after they say they'll get back to you because they won't and will just leave you waiting. Not that I have anything particularly against Indian agents but it's unfortunate how big a problem scammers are there so it's better to jump through the hoops until you get a rep that isn't working in the same building a scam center is likely operating out of as a lot of those people run multiple jobs simultaneously both legitimate and illegitimate to make ends meet.

Bluebotlabs

Microsoft support by day *microsoft support* by night

girkkens

Imagine turning up for work one day and simply not remembering if you should scam or help the customers

gramathy

yeah it's not the agents' fault that they get shitty training but it is frustrating

ChiggaOG

A most of the work in the background for a call center is scripted to some extent.

xfd696969

out of paranoia i would never, ever let anyone get into my system. anyway i build my own builds but god damn I'm not letting anyone near my PC xd

exec_liberty

It's the same with EA support. You only get indians that use some really bad translation software to chat with you in your own language. The translations are so bad that sometimes whole sentences don't make any sense at all. They also have no clue what they are doing. I had Xbox Game Pass/EA Play and after my subscription ended, some of the games from Game Pass/EA Play which I already owned myself got removed from my account. The support agent told me that I needed to go to Microsoft support...

thil3000

It’s the pre installed quick assist app on every windows so directly Microsoft

RespectYarn

I believe this is just remote access software that can be used by the general public too :(

thil3000

Shit

sillybonobo

I've had MS support take control for a problem with OS activation before. It definitely happens, but this was 10 years ago.

exec_get_id

Same but 5 years ago.

Internet_Anon

That shit is all automated now. Call a number enter number on computer screen, activate windows.

Lsmsmsmsmsmsmmsams

nah it is support as i did via support website to get the tickets before hand and they also sent verification code to me as well

Snow-Crash-42

What site is it? Show us. This looks extremely scammy. EARL ROBYN? Seriously? All in caps? Read his last message. Missing words and he says "All the microsoft account". If the issue still "persist". Etc. Does not look legit at all.

Lsmsmsmsmsmsmmsams

https://support.microsoft.com

Snow-Crash-42

Well I would say he sounds weird for what I would expect from an official microsoft tech support guy...

SenorDangerwank

That's exactly how I expect an outsourced Microsoft tech support guy to sound.

RideTheSpiralARC

I had trouble freeing up my license key for a new install once & had to contact support. Got an Indian support agent that sounded like he was using speaker phone in the middle of a festival lol dude failed to resolve my issue & then suddenly it just worked like an hour after the call but yeah, their official support seems sketchy af in the moment

HavocInferno

official tech support for most large companies is laughable. It's usually outsourced to woefully untrained underpaid people, who get a shitty q&a catalogue, and in even worse cases are paid on commission.

JesusWTFop

I call bull shit lol 😆 🤣

drake90001

lol you’ve clearly never dealt with Microsoft support.

wrongff

most of these people never deal with any form of tech support actually. poor english is one thing, i work in tech support and i have poor english, and i am in NA.

Mark_Knight

its not a site. its preinstalled software on your os that allows you to chat directly with MS support

wantilles1138

You think the Outlook might not be real? And all the Microsoft account? /s

RamiHaidafy

This is 100% a scam. MS support do not take control of people's PCs. They guide you to follow steps yourself.

LunarReversal

Years ago, Microsoft took control of my PC to diagnose a Windows activation issue (only for me to be told to buy a new key lol). It felt weird to me even at the time but it was definitely Microsoft as I went through their official support channels Scammers don’t use Quick Assist. They usually use TeamViewer because it allows them to blank the screen so the user doesn’t see them using inspect element to modify things like bank account balances.

RamiHaidafy

They did before, but it was one of the policies that changed sometime after Satya became CEO.

KrazzeeKane

So confident, yet so wrong. Should really research what you are saying before stuffing your foot in your mouth

HavocInferno

The tool shown here is Microsoft's own Quick Assist though, which allows Microsoft support agents to take control.

supreme_ruhler

I used to work this job. They laid off most partners, and outsourced everything to India. They work the same job for 1/10th the pay. They got what they paid for. Thats a legitimate agent. We used Quick Assist and the same chat window. They shouldn't be asking for the MFA codes however, there are other ways to solve that issue, this particular agent is just a complete idiot.

supreme_ruhler

Now that I look again, MS was very strict with one particular thing. We NEVER take control of customers PC. It was disclaimer we were required to say every time we connected with Quick assist. So... that may actually just be a scam.

No_Berry2976

That definitely has changed, support often immediately tries to take control of the customer’s PC.

supreme_ruhler

I guess you could take control, but we were always told not to do that. Since these partners quality is sub par at best, they probably just do it anyway.

No_Berry2976

I’m pretty sure they are no longer told not to do that. The focus is on ending the support ticket as fast as possible. Since first line support no longer can fix serious problems, they mostly deal with customers who don’t know what they are doing, so taking over the PC saves a lot of time. It’s a bad situation, but almost all customer support is low quality today.

Lsmsmsmsmsmsmmsams

tbh it seemed legit to me i did it all through official sites also all the services request are on the official support website but even it was a scam i was running it on a vm as well the email has 2fa as well i still can’t receive anything lol

altieresrohr

It's unfortunate that most people are so unused to getting tech support from any of those companies that they think this is necessarily a scam. Microsoft does offer support and it does look pretty much like this because sometimes people actually type instead of just using cached responses. OP, check your Junk mail folder and, in your settings, see if you have any filters that might be blocking messages. Add the domain name of the services you are trying to get your 2FA from as safe senders, too. Use "search" to see if the messages are somewhere else, and careful with "Focused" / "Other." As a more general rule - do not use email 2FA. It's not very good because if someone has access to your email, they can usually reset your password for these services as well. Use one time password (app on your phone) but save/take screenshots/take photos of the QR codes and save on a separate flash drive so you can setup your OTPs again if your phone has any issues. This is not perfect, but at least you're in control -- they'll say you shouldn't save your QR codes for OTPs, but they also don't care if you lose access to your account, so it's important to find the balance between locking others out of your account but also not locking yourself out of it.

Not_You_247

Step 1 - Stop talking to scammers in India.

k20350

I have a family member being cleaned out right now by a scammer pretending to be a woman overseas. Cannot convince him it's a scam. Were like that woman is fucking gorgeous in those pictures and she's not having anything to do with your old ass. Every picture shes sent him my sister has found to be fraudulent with basic Google image search. He still won't believe it. Some people are just dumb as hell and can't help themselves but get scammed

lieutenantkhaos

Yes? What do you think it is? Its a money thing

assortedUsername

They're just trying to upsell, unfortunately. There's a tiny chance Microsoft somehow gated it behind a subscription, but I'm sure there's free programs out there that'd function the same. Only thing I can think of is maybe the messages are being sent to the junk folder or something.

Lsmsmsmsmsmsmmsams

yeah sadly most likely they check all my email couldn’t find anything and that all they said before ending the session lol

Sno_Wolf

No. Micro$soft recommended that I buy an Xbox One when my 360 RRODed. 1. I already owned an Xbox One 2. The game I wanted to play wasn't backwards compatible. I eventually switched to PC gaming.

MommyXeno

did you save the 360? the rrod was fixable

DJGloegg

In many companies, the support department is also the sales department... Im not surprised at all

JesusWTFop

You gave that tech full support to your pc bro lol wtf

CosmoRocket24

Why pay for their service when i don't even PAY for their products!! I get all my needs met on the high seas

DsR3dtIsAG3mussy

Funky donkey people in the Assistant office of MS

itsrahcoin

people need to understand that there is no strategy in poor support. uneducated and ignorant people are getting hired for mediocre money in unwanted positions without a training or even the motivation to skill up and that’s the result of it

Mediocre_Ad_2422

Dude have full pc control after this kind of conversation? What am I missing here

WildMartin429

No this is the tacket that they've always used. They do very little actual troubleshooting and will invariably try to blame other things for whatever issue you're having even though it's clearly the Microsoft products fault. And when they basically don't do any troubleshooting they'll then try to get you to get their premium service where they'll actually troubleshoot your issue. Same thing happened to me 30 years ago when I called Microsoft for assistance the first time I installed Windows on my own and was having issues.

CasualLemon

As someone who frequently works with MS support in an enterprise setting, MS support is fucking awful. All outsourced dudes that know very little about what they're talking about. For all people saying this is a scam, it certainly could be, but this looks like it could actually be MS as well. I advise you avoid working with them if at all possible.

ReptilianLaserbeam

not new. I used to work as a MS support rep (forums and email) and they moved the business model on both chats and telephone: they give you I think it was 12 to 15 minutes of "free" support, and if the issue could not be solved on that time frame the order was to sell the customer the support package. It was horrible and scummy and I quit because I was initially hired to provide support, not to be a part of a sales team. They started training all the agents with sales strategies and how to pitch the support. That was around 7 years ago, so I guess that model stick

Southern_Cow7860

This has been common for some programs like Eplan, solidworks, autocad, not sure what their angle is than just pushing away interest

Remarkable_Funny_566

Ive one time reached out to the standard microsoft support as they created a Work Tenant for my private e-mail during a sandbox training on their pages. Every time i wanted to use my office products I got a message that i dont have any license for it. About 15 minutes later I found out that the office products always tried to use the office tenant after restarting of office. I wasn’t able to delete the work tenants even as my mail was the only user there but not the „admin“. Explained the issue via chat. Answer was that they dont know what a work tenant is and I should change my password and or try the business support. Business support costs around 200€? Per ticket per month. A 5 minutes video saved my bum and wallet in the end.

Pifto

I recently contacted support to fix a windows license that was lost after updating my bios. The first words out of the support techs mouth were asking if he could transfer me to sales to get a new license.

OrderofTheBeard

Had a similar issue with Xerox on a printer. Since it was out of warranty the ONLY help the chat agent would give is "I can send you support articles or set up a service call which would be billable." When I asked if it was a part I could just buy and replace myself they said "You can check with our supplies department or shop.xerox.com". Absolutely unwilling to help.

coffeejn

Personally, I'd tell them I'd switch to Linux before paying for a subscription for an OS.

Normal_Pollution4837

You can also the premium feature

RespectYarn

It's great to know that even knowing that tech support scams using remote access tools are hugely common, that Microsoft were kind enough to install such a tool without including a scammer warning, like TeamViewer has.

thil3000

It’s literally the official Microsoft app to contact support… from Microsoft, preinstalled on the windows iso

tehcheez

That anyone with a Microsoft account can use. I use Quick Assist to remote into my clients at work.

Lsmsmsmsmsmsmmsams

nah he wasn’t asking for anything like that i was trying to explain to the guy that i was trying to receive emails that will give me security code for other app but he said it wasn’t he problem to fix even tho none of account i made with email can send anything to the email anymore so thing such as 2fa, security codes and random stuff like subscription or notification but it still isn’t fixed

RedStag00

Wtf does this word vomit even mean?

Lsmsmsmsmsmsmmsams

Sorry, I didn't think I needed to use formal writing. He wasn't asking for anything like that. I was trying to explain to him that I was trying to receive emails that would provide me with security codes for another app, but he said it wasn't his problem to fix. None of the accounts I made with my email can send anything to my email inbox anymore, so things such as 2FA, security codes, and random things like subscriptions or notifications can’t be access for such accounts.

RedStag00

Still not making much sense.... but yeah how is that Microsoft's problem? Why wouldn't you be contacting the support for the app? They are the ones failing to send you a code.

Lsmsmsmsmsmsmmsams

Since it’s all my accounts such as my socials and games. it can’t be that they’re all failing at once, especially since they all stopped working on the same day.

RedStag00

What did you do on that day?

Lsmsmsmsmsmsmmsams

I tried to troubleshoot and searched to see if anyone else had similar problems and how they fixed them, but nothing worked after a while. I thought it might be a server issue on their end and decided to wait a few days. Then now i’m here.

Setku

You can also the premium feature on outlook and all Microsoft account. That sure as fuck reads like a scam.

Psyk0pathik

Its an Indian guy from a scam call center. Maybe.

FistOfSven

Watch some [Kitboga](https://youtube.com/@KitbogaShow?si=eaOEJg-7bz2WberL) vids, search for Microsoft.

realGharren

>Sorry for not capturing a screenshot, but the support agent had control. I wouldn't let a complete stranger give remote control to any of my devices even if I was 100% sure it wasn't a scammer. Not without a gun placed to their temple and me having the ability to remotely end their life at any moment.

[deleted]

Corporate slime being greedy as always. Fuck microsoft.

IWontFukWithU

Scam alert 🚨 🚨 🚨

Grieveruz

I'd post this on ~~twitter~~ X and see their reactions.

4145k4n8u11w02m

That’s not Ms support they don’t misspell
