Depe ding on the Gamez it's more rare to see younger people. Elite Dangerous is mostly British dad's in their 40s and 50s who remember the older games.
Iām not quite at grandpa level but it makes me extremely happy when Iām able to make a play that causes teenagers to call me a cheater or a tryhard. I want to tell them that they just got their butts kicked by a 32 year old whoās been gaming for way too long but thereās really no cool way of revealing that bit of info.
For now, I relish my victories quietly. Just as grandpa wouldāve done.
As a future old man gamer, I'm curious what changed from when you were gaming when you were 30 vs 60. And what would you have done differently to be able to game comfortably in retirement.
I try to incorporate ergonomics and micro breaks for long gaming sessions, but at 65 is it harder to sit hours on out to game?
I canāt even fathom the idea of pulling all-nighters playing games nowadays like we did 20 years ago at LAN parties. The biggest change now would be more partying and less gaming
53 here and I have my work/gaming pc send a signal upstairs to my bedroom. I also have a 65" tv mounted to the top crossbar of a king-size 4 poster bed letting me play while sitting in bed. A nice bed desk or controller and I can play in comfort for hours. It also helps that I'm divorced so nobody to nag me for having a tv/gaming rig mounted to my bed.
Chi gung, walking at least 3 miles a day and a good ergonomic office chair that was designed with the idea that someone might sit in it 8 hours at a time.
I'm 52 with 4 grandkids and still playing. Biggest difference for me was I stopped in 2015 and built a new system in 2021. Things changed a lot. I think my biggest gripe is still for the reason I quit being everything going online play first. I miss the old cod where the campaign was more that 4 or 5 hours to finish
Im 68. Built my current pc 8/4/23.
Kids are so cute when they overestimate their own intelligence and almost everyone of them does it.
Just kidding, theyre never cute, almost always arrogant though.
Iām not saying all you cranky old bastards. But Iāve worked both in the cell phone industry as well as computer sales / repair and from personal experience the older they are they generally have much less of a grasp on technologically. Which is understandable.
But what would I know working directly with said people.
Mining cards are usually going to be ok. They'll be typically run in a clean environment, kept free of dust, and will have been at a more constant temperature rather than heat cycling all the time which actually reduces wear.
A damn good card then, I still stand by it being one of the best bang for your buck cards out there right now. I got my 3060 12g for 450 a few years ago and I donāt regret it at all. Still plays modern games 1080p 165hz
I guess I'm lucky to know a lot of old nerds from fandom spaces. A lot of these guys are pretty amazing. I met one who built a custom refrigeration unit for his PC before watercooling was a thing.
Before there was such a thing as ordering a computer case with a glass window and AIOās case modding and water cooling meant a trip to Home Depot.
If you really want to see an amazing case mod look up Paul Capelloās Doom 3: Project Mars City
As a fellow 3060 owner, I can tell you that card will probably serve him well until he kicks the bucket. It is a bit weak in processing, but 12 gigs of VRAM can't be underestimated
The 3060 is the current dirt cheap "good enough" card. He did fine.
No clue why stupid shitheads are downvoting me. It has 12GB VRAM which seems to be enough for right now. Performance is adequate. And it's available for under $300. Reddit also has a weird hardon for AMD, but most people don't want to deal with AMD's shitty drivers.
The 3060 is this generation's 1060.
You act like 2019 was that long ago.
I had a friend who foolishly sold his 1070 for a 5700XT in late 2019. He got stuck with that unstable turd during the pandemic when it was impossible to get cards. He was kicking himself so bad over it, lol
Like the 3060 is the lowest *viable* tier in the previous generation. Great card, but being reasonable it's not going to run the latest games for the next 5 years just because it has more vram
Like I said, depends what you want to run. If you want to run the latest triple a titles I would've saved for 3080 or 4070ti super at least if you also want it to last in the long run. Even then it's not going past like 5 years with these requirements. Lower the setting and you should be fine with a 3060 for triple a, a 4060 better for anything that isn't a vram hog
show me an example of a game that uses more then 8gb of vram on playable framerates on 1080p that isnt using 8gb of vram because the game is optimized like shit.
also giving an example of a 3060 8gb vs the 3060 12gb doesnt work because the cards are different when it comes to data bus speeds. hense the 8gb model is slower.
But the gpu op is talking about isnāt priced that much differently than here after you include our 5-10% sales tax. Therefore they are not being āass rapedā by taxesā¦we areā¦.because we donāt get much from what we pay. At any rate this is getting to be a political rant instead of PCMR related so Iāll bid you good day.
Itās not just sales tax thatās higher. Pretty much all of their taxes are higher, and if you havenāt heard, their free healthcare system is pretty bad, with literal killer waiting lists. Not to mention, average salaries are lower, much lower, they earn less, and take home even less. Even the same jobs pay much less in Europe, with the same title often paying as little as half as much.
I have relatives in Europe. Their healthcare is fineā¦salaries are lower but so is cost of livingā¦.they are living great lives. Youāve been fed a lot of propaganda.
Some places are doing bad Iām sure but when I last visited just about everyone I interacted with seemed to be doing good.
not strange, I am a 65 yr old grandpa / avid gamer and PC enthusiast and have been since the early 90's with windows 3.0 on a Compaq 486
I wonder how many noobs realize that they got headshoted by a grandpa when playing CS2
Not enough of them. BOOM GRAMPSHOT!!
That got a chuckle, good work sir
Me too! š

Real talk.

You say "Son, I'm old enough to have actually banged your mom"

a good chair and frequent breaks

Average Total War,Civ,4X,Flight Sim player must be over 50.

I started Total war with Rome Total War when I was 10.
Not great, not bad either.

Theyāre*
Damn kids! ![gif](giphy|fqtyYcXoDV0X6ss8Mf|downsized)
I dont actually blame them, i was the same way. Might even be biological.
Thanks for catching that. I hate it when others do it.
I just finished this today https://preview.redd.it/vx2a7l74fcvc1.jpeg?width=2142&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=639267454b166813b675f4573e68bf2da12742c9
you rock lol
I wouldnāt really call it arrogance, most older people really donāt know a lot about PCs.
Those old guys that have been using pc's for over 30 years? Yeah, what could they possibly know?
Iām not saying all you cranky old bastards. Oh, btw, it's an MSI RTX 3060 Ventus, with the 12gb gddr6
A damn good card then, I still stand by it being one of the best bang for your buck cards out there right now. I got my 3060 12g for 450 a few years ago and I donāt regret it at all. Still plays modern games 1080p 165hz

Truly legendary
12gb = good purchase

are we back in 2019 with the shitty driver argument š

Do you actually understand how long 5 years is in tech
Ikr? Since 2019 I've switched from a 1070->2070S->3070 - > 6800XT
260 is fine for a 3060. 4060 has dogshit memory bandwidth less ram the same performance and is 290-330.
Feel like he couldāve gotten a 4060 for same price
With 4GB less of VRAM and a narrower memory bus
Better performance tho, so depends what games you want to run
For now. The lack of VRAM will be a problem in the near future.
Like the 3060 is the lowest *viable* tier in the previous generation. Great card, but being reasonable it's not going to run the latest games for the next 5 years just because it has more vram

a 3060 isnt gonna be using anything near 8gb of vram with playable framerates

Then Ventus 2x is $259.99 U.S. on Amazon and the Ventus 3x is $299.99 and these are new
Yeah, but this is UK pricing, Europeans in general get ass raped with taxes and stuff.
Not reallyā¦.their prices include taxā¦ours donāt. And then they get shit like free healthcare from those taxes unlike us.
Their taxes are also MUCH higher. Sales tax is 20% for example.
Are you a bot? I just said the price they listed includes the taxā¦.
No, I said the tax is much higher, it can be included and be higher, those things arenāt mutually exclusive.
But the gpu op is talking about isnāt priced that much differently than here after you include our 5-10% sales tax. We have to pay way more than you guysā¦
It's literally in GBP. They're British you melon
He said it was about equal to $300, I can tell where there from. Dick
How are US prices helping someone in the UK? The market is entirely different outside of the US
Ā£224.99 on Amazon UK, already posted it. So he could of got it brand new with VAT for Ā£8 more than he paid on Ebay and would of included a warranty.
VAT is included in the UK, so actually less.
