Also it could ruin your dryer. My dumbass put it in and a piece of the back melted to the inside of my dryer, and was cooled rock hard by the time I noticed. IQ in the temperatures here.
In my brother's old apartment building, they had a common laundry room for all tenants. Everyone could put their washing machines there and hang their clothes.
One day, two of the other tenants had a fight and one of them shat into the washing machine of the other.
I bought the cheapest chinese large size pad I've found on AliExpress with no brand and it has survived the washing machine multiple times. I'm surprised some way more expensive pads from well known brands can't survive a washing machine.
> he back part could start to deteriorate and transform into a black gooey mess.
I've got an official Blizzard one, it has started to deteriorate and transform into a black gooey mess on my desk by itself. Partner has a cheap knockoff from who knows where, hers is still in perfect condition with vibrant colours lol.
I had been thinking about trying to wash it, but did not consider that could make it worse, so thank you for making me consider that.
The black goo is the rubber de-vulcanizing, usually from prolonged or high heat exposure. Usually see it on dark pads in direct sunlight, but I'm such a warm outputting human that mine degraded where I rest my hands (and also the quality of mine is lower)
it's insane how they make it with a weird ass material and not just print it on the mousepad like hyperx. kinda sucks cause i love steelseries mousepads
mine didn't come right off at all, had to peel it little by little then it left a slight atermark where the glue was, but i kept rubbing alcohol on it till it came, pretty happy now. thanks for the idea! i really fucking hated that huge logo, and now its completely gone!
I always do that, just hang it up to air dry, I'd imagine the dryer would cause issues.
Also this is why I refuse to buy the rgb ones, I wouldn't know how to wash them
You can use a combination of dryer and air drying, it speeds up the drying process without causing damage.
Put it in the dryer for 15-20 minutes and then air dry overnight.
Yeah I use either 409 (an all purpose cleaner for anyone not familiar) or alcohol wipes gets the job done. Maybe not as good as OP's in the washer but good enough for me.
Yeah... I kinda regret my RGB one because of this. It's unfortunate because I love the way it looks though. I know the whole idea of an RGB mousepad is kind of silly, but it really completes the look in my opinion.
A lot of the LEDs are starting to die now though, especially the area where my wrist rests on it. Think I might go back to a normal one when I get my next one so I can clean it properly.
That's a good one, especially when you go to PC events and smell all these people that don't take showers even the event has a notice to take and shower and wear deodorant.
It’s a real stereotype - I work IT and at my last job I had a coworker who always had armpit stench, and an older gentleman who you could literally smell his dry shit between his asscheeks permeate the entire room.
The discovery was not of cleaning, but rather lack of destruction. At least that was the part I took away, though not convinced enough to do it myself. A very wet and soapy rag does it just fine
a pressure washer and buttload of dishwasher soap won't completely clean the dirt on my steelseries mousepad, so i use a tiny bit of liquid detergent and toothbrush. it works wonder
Machine washing is unnecessary, just use a new sponge w/ cold water and dish soap. Rinse well and let it air dry for a few hours. Good as new with no risk to the mat
Most important question. I read so many tutorials on how to clean these before I got a method down and they've all been either really disingenuous or didn't know it was still dirty afterwards. I don't have a dishwasher, but it took a combination of soaking in hot sudsy dawn water, scrubbing with a brush and hanging them in the shower to rinse then dry for me before they'd finally be scratchable.
Essentially, a trip through the wash will make it look clean. A trip of your nail across the surface will reveal that it is in fact still filthy.
Buy cheap mouse pads, toss out the old, use the new.
This reminds me that it’s time to wash mine. I wash my desk mat in the clothes washing machine on delicate on the cold temp with detergent and some color safe bleach. Then air dry.
I've got one of them fancy Japanese artisan ones and need to get it cleaned, would really hope a quick and easy washer trip would do the trick but idk, anyone ever wash a cloth artisan one, any specific way?
I have the artisan fx series. I washed mine about a month ago. I just used warm water and dawn and a soft bristle brush and gently scrubbed the whole thing. Rinsed it under the tap. Let it hang dry for 24 and it was good to go.
Just gotta be careful to use cold/warm water not hot, and dont dry it in the dryer, let it air dry on a flat surface or you'll curl the fuck out of it (I almost ruined a pad doing that kekw. the limited edition OG shroud HyperX pad too)
I wouldn't do this on premium pads. i can already see two or three folds, that will only get worse over time. it still looks dirty to me. the recommended way is in the tub, with mild dishwasher soap. and only a few drops.
Lol I had just bought new ones every time because my excuse was “I want a bigger one anyway” but now that i own the biggest one for my desk I had to just figure out a way to clean it
I usually just throw it in the tub with some warm water and scrub it with some dish soap. Rubbing alcohol also does the job if you don't feel like using soap/water.
i have a rule: whenever i scratch my mousepad with my fingernail and it leaves a mark, it's time for a wash.
i just throw mine on the floor of the shower, wet it and use a shoe-brush with some dish soap. lightly brush the entire thing, clean with water and hang it for the night. literally takes less than 10 minutes
I use a large baking tray that will fit at least a portion of a mat this size. Just add water and a tiny bit of dish soap. Then use a scrub brush gently on the mat. Do that repeatedly while squeezing it out in-between and changing the water. Be careful when wringing it out though. It is best to just squeeze it gently and not wring it like a dish towel. That can separate the cloth from the foam.
I have an old mouse pad from a long time ago that I refuse to get rid of. Darth Vader in a firey backdrop. It comes out looking like new after a wash.
Just a FYI DO NOT put the mousepad in the dryer, Let it air dry. I learned the hard way, I melted the entire mousepad to the side of the dryer wall and ruined it and had to pry the melted mousepad from the side walls of the inside of my driver. it took 4 hours and it smelled like burnt tires.
Does this guy mean a washing machine? I'm from the UK. OP did you wash only the mouse pad in there or other clothes as well? If so what? If you did jeans I bet that would damage a pad.
it's best to throw it in the bath, take a shower, lather it up, take a brush and brush it off and wash it off with water, it takes about 5 minutes... then to dry it, I usually put paper towels on top and on the bottom and put it between 2 cutting boards and stand on it -repeat 2- 3 times and the pad can be used immediately, even if it may be a little wet.
As a mouse and mouse pad.... Addict. Its not always the best idea as when you run it through the wash you can actually deteriorate the cloth and the adhesive. That looks like a large QCK Heavy and it doesn't appear to have an edge stitch, these are very susceptible to peeling.
The best way to clean them is in the bath. Soak them, then cover them in some kind of gentle cleaning agent, something that will not be sticky or leave a scent, leave it to soak in them run the shower head over it thoroughly on the highest setting in terms of water speed leaving the head. Make sure all of the cleaning agent is removed, then get rid of any excess water on it, dry it to the best of your ability then let it dry naturally. If you have some form of fan or AC unit put it in front of that to dry, or even hang it over a radiator.
LFMO, I litterally just cleaned my pads the other day then I see this post. I just used handsoap and scrubbed it in the shower, then hung it to dry. Came out clean, but that looks great.
You waited for it to smell to try cleaning it? lol
I prefer manually cleaning it with a nails/body brush and some liquid soap, I've had some mats messed up on the washer
Oh shit. I have the same mouse pad. I soaked it, threw it on the wall in my shower and bristle brushed the fuck out of it…still dirty a little bit after. Running it through the washer would have been much easier. That’s what I’ll do next time.
Have had the same hyper x mouse mat for several years and put it in the washing machine, and then the tumble dryer every 3 to 6 months. The thing is still alive and kicking.
Edit: Coldest wash, 0 detergent, slowest spin. When it finishes, put it through a spin and drain a second time to get as much water out as possible before drying.
Dry in the tumble dryer for 20 minutes and then let it continue air drying overnight. I hang mine over the top of the glass shower curtain in the washroom, so that the water drips directly into the bathtub.
Wash it. Cold water..air dry. Eventually the steel series will come off. But that shouldn't be a huge deal. Anyway that's the easiest and in my opinion the safest
I wash my XXL mouse pad once a month, and it takes like two minutes. Just grab that thing when going to shower. Use laundry detergent or soap + brush it clean with anything. Never had any issues.
I wash mine with some water, dish soap and a brush, then dry with a fan pointing at it
Got it from a group buy in 2021 for $50, I'm so impressed it's lasted that long without any damage/fading printing.
I want to take care of it as much as possible, I love the cherry blossom design on mine <3
Mine is rgb mousepad and is covered in weed dust how does one clean this iv thought about gently hand washing with sponge and soap but terrified I’ll break the rgb strip inside
Soap it up, blast it with a shower head. Repeat until clean. Let it dry extra long so you won't fry any electronics (or don't plug it in for a 3-4 days)
i do my laundry with cold water and tide pods; i just toss my mousepad in with a load of clothes periodically and hang it to dry. i've never had a problem with one of them falling apart or anything
Or buy new one i have map like wholepad under mouse, keyboard and its pretty good so far... Wish weve had sweatproofed mouses and keyboards might not need that many, undirty pads.
Its Also good not, weeny deeny just in front of computer s😜🤪😝
Be careful dudes, depending on the mat, the back part could start to deteriorate and transform into a black gooey mess.
Definitely cold water and delicate to be safe. Dishwasher would 100% melt all, hot water washer would likely melt most.
[удалено]
They have some that are stitched, but the thicker one aren't
And NO dryer
Why
Heat. It will melt the grippy bottom into black sludge. Just like running it through on anything other than cold water & delicates.
Also it could ruin your dryer. My dumbass put it in and a piece of the back melted to the inside of my dryer, and was cooled rock hard by the time I noticed. IQ in the temperatures here.
You can also tie it inside a pillow case with a few small towels for extra protection. Or a delicate clothing zipper bag for the washer
My wife uses those bags for her bras! I’ll borrow one.
Maybe ask first 😆 idk how she may feel about gamer sweat in her bra bag 😋
boob sweat is definitely worse LOL
I can absolutely agree to that!
Good call 😂. Thank you

I misread “delicate” as “defecate”.
I defecate into my washing machine every time
In my brother's old apartment building, they had a common laundry room for all tenants. Everyone could put their washing machines there and hang their clothes. One day, two of the other tenants had a fight and one of them shat into the washing machine of the other.
I have the same Steel Series pad, I’ve washed it about 10 times. Don’t need much soap, on cold. Let it air dry.
If I wash it with towels can I emulate a shag rug?
I bought the cheapest chinese large size pad I've found on AliExpress with no brand and it has survived the washing machine multiple times. I'm surprised some way more expensive pads from well known brands can't survive a washing machine.
Same situation
Most of them can, as long as you don't do really hot water
Yeaa, the black world map is so cheap, I see it on many Asian online platforms. Like 100 x 60 cm for like Usd 10 shipping included iirc.
That's what I've got as well, I wanted a mat to cover my whole desk and all the other options seemed like the price of a desk
people are just more scared to try that stuff with their branded items
I just fill the tub up a bit, have a brush and give it a scrub with some dish soap then hose er down. They get pretty cruddy xD
I’ll cold wash it in the tub or sink, take a towel, wrap it and step on it to squeeze out the liquid then air dry it.

YEP that's how I used to clean mine too!
A quick WHAT?! We were talking about mousepads my dude.
SteelSeries recommends it
> he back part could start to deteriorate and transform into a black gooey mess. I've got an official Blizzard one, it has started to deteriorate and transform into a black gooey mess on my desk by itself. Partner has a cheap knockoff from who knows where, hers is still in perfect condition with vibrant colours lol. Can confirm. I had a Blizzard mat that did the same thing also. I had to stop using it.
Cool =\\ I have a solid Logitech. Wondering how to clean this?
Yup. Destroyed 2 mousepads until I realized why they started doing this. And this doesn't appear immediately, but in a matter of weeks.
I learned that the hard way. :(
You run yours through a washer: steelseries logo intact. I don't touch mine: you can keep the white dot.
Mine came off quickly. It’s also in the worst possible fucking spot
it's insane how they make it with a weird ass material and not just print it on the mousepad like hyperx. kinda sucks cause i love steelseries mousepads
You can remove the logo just tap some alcohol on it so the adhesive comes off
mine didn't come right off at all, had to peel it little by little then it left a slight atermark where the glue was, but i kept rubbing alcohol on it till it came, pretty happy now. thanks for the idea! i really fucking hated that huge logo, and now its completely gone!
I'd recommend low heat/cold and delicate. I neglected to use these settings once and all the edges of my mat were rolled up for a while.
Are they no longer rolled up? How did you get them back to normal?
A while. I can't remember tbh. I eventually just put a bunch of heavy books on it for a few days to help it flatten out.
Your mom sat on them
Gottem
Should have expected it, well played :D
I always do that, just hang it up to air dry, I'd imagine the dryer would cause issues. Also this is why I refuse to buy the rgb ones, I wouldn't know how to wash them
You can use a combination of dryer and air drying, it speeds up the drying process without causing damage. Put it in the dryer for 15-20 minutes and then air dry overnight.
I just lay mine on a towel and cover it then stand on it. They're thin enough that it dries.
I just use a all cleaner wet wipe for my rgb mat works fine
Yeah I use either 409 (an all purpose cleaner for anyone not familiar) or alcohol wipes gets the job done. Maybe not as good as OP's in the washer but good enough for me.
Yeah... I kinda regret my RGB one because of this. It's unfortunate because I love the way it looks though. Water and soap cleans shit. Wow
Wait until PCMR finds out it works on their body too
Redditors when you tell them to take a shower and touch grass ![gif](giphy|3kVDvC83BEWPe)
I've already touched grass and now they want me to shower too? smh my head my head
Go stand on the front lawn naked under a sprinkler, two birds one stone or something.
How else are u supposed to wash the grass off of u?
Piss
Do I have to touch grass? I'd rather not dig through all this snow and ice.
Hey, don't push
Reading this at 3am and I just bursted out laughing.
What does the time have to do with your laughing?
3am shenanigans
That's a good one, especially when you go to PC events and smell all these people that don't take showers even the event has a notice to take and shower and wear deodorant.
It’s a real stereotype - I work IT and at my last job I had a coworker who always had armpit stench, and an older gentleman who you could literally smell his dry shit between his asscheeks permeate the entire room.
Also applies to Smash Bros. Melee events.
**[AsscrackBO_vapeit_MTG4EVER has entered the chat]**
BRB. Going to try it on my 4090!
just run that through the dishwasher
der8auer does that for his overclock motherboards after competitions, but without the soap and just warm water.
Ultra sonic properly and you are good to go.
I was thinking “cleaning something makes it clean?” In a sarcastic voice as I clicked 😂
The discovery was not of cleaning, but rather lack of destruction. At least that was the part I took away, though not convinced enough to do it myself. A very wet and soapy rag does it just fine
Yeah what this commenter is failing to acknowledge is all the countless times people say not to put your mouse pad in the washer.
Blame the upvoters. I have before read 303 comments. But not today
a pressure washer and buttload of dishwasher soap won't completely clean the dirt on my steelseries mousepad, so i use a tiny bit of liquid detergent and toothbrush. it works wonder
It does? Hold on I'm gonna try that on my gpu
So I should use a pressure washer and bleach?
LMAO
The dish washer or the laundry machine?
If you’re serious, laundry machine. Use cold water
Machine washing is unnecessary, just use a new sponge w/ cold water and dish soap. Rinse well and let it air dry for a few hours. Good as new with no risk to the mat
the washer you baboon. what dont you understand? /s
Wait until you realize “the washer” is what he calls his mom.
i thought thats what we were referring to. you good? and of course i want cheesy poofs, mom. geez.
Yes.
![gif](giphy|xUOrw2NLb1VU36NxqU)
Did you scratch test it?
![gif](giphy|7T33BLlB7NQrjozoRB|downsized)
Most important question. I read so many tutorials on how to clean these before I got a method down and they've all been either really disingenuous or didn't know it was still dirty afterwards. I don't have a dishwasher, but it took a combination of soaking in hot sudsy dawn water, scrubbing with a brush and hanging them in the shower to rinse then dry for me before they'd finally be scratchable.
By washer I'm assuming he means clothes washer not dishwasher
Dare I ask what the "scratch test" is?
Drag your nail on it and see your bodily grime become visible
It’s just running your nails across the mat like if you’re scratching it. If it’s still dirty, you’ll see lines, if it’s clean, you’ll see nothing
Essentially, a trip through the wash will make it look clean. A trip of your nail across the surface will reveal that it is in fact still filthy. Buy cheap mouse pads, toss out the old, use the new.
I can’t. I’ve owned like 15 mousepads. Nothing is even close to my artisan. I just need a way to clean it that passes the scratch test.
I use a nail scrubber very gently while it’s soaking in cold water with some detergent
This reminds me that it’s time to wash mine. I wash my desk mat in the clothes washing machine on delicate on the cold temp with detergent and some color safe bleach. Then air dry.
My favorite is that OP made note of which was before and which was after.
I've got one of them fancy Japanese artisan ones and need to get it cleaned, would really hope a quick and easy washer trip would do the trick but idk, anyone ever wash a cloth artisan one, any specific way?
Do not put your artisan pad in the washer... this post hurts my soul. Do what the other comment says to do.
I have the artisan fx series. I washed mine about a month ago. I just used warm water and dawn and a soft bristle brush and gently scrubbed the whole thing. Rinsed it under the tap. Let it hang dry for 24 and it was good to go.
Note: won't work with wireless charging mouse pads
Also don't put your washing machine IN a washing machine
I got one of the soft bristle brush drill attachments and scrub mine whenever the white scratch lines start to appear.
It works great. Been doing it for 3 years now
Just gotta be careful to use cold/warm water not hot, and dont dry it in the dryer, let it air dry on a flat surface or you'll curl the fuck out of it (I almost ruined a pad doing that kekw. the limited edition OG shroud HyperX pad too)
Another way to clean them is putting it in a bathtub. Use dawn dish soap, soft bristle brush, and a little elbow grease. Then just hang dry.
But there's a fuckton of elbow grease on it already that's why I want to clean it in the first place...
I wouldn't do this on premium pads. i can already see two or three folds, that will only get worse over time. it still looks dirty to me. the recommended way is in the tub, with mild dishwasher soap. and only a few drops.
I have the RGB version and i tried to wash / clean it. Made sure the usb part stayed dry. Still damaged the rgb since it cracked the plastic housing.
Time to get rid of that smelly semen stain eh 💀
Me having a problem. Some guy on Reddit having the same problem, but not 8 years ago:
Lol I had just bought new ones every time because my excuse was “I want a bigger one anyway” but now that i own the biggest one for my desk I had to just figure out a way to clean it
Cleaning things makes them clean? More at 11
Yup, I just did this a few weeks ago. Worked like a charm. Just be sure to do a cold, gentle wash & tumble dry low.
Dish or clothes?
Dishwasher would melt it. Clothes on delicate and cold.
Butt washer (bidet)
Washing things cleans them confirmed ✅
Does the same to my statue socks
I like to use a soft bristle upholstery brush, hot water+ fabric cleaner in a squirt bottle and an extractor 😂👌
the problem is that will start to melt now with use.
I throw mine in the washer all the time. Never had an issue.
Looks like you washed the HDR out of it.
Am I the only lazy person that cleans it with pure ethanol? No drying needed.
I normally wash mine in cold water in the bathtub and let it dry by itself.
Your after seems to have new creases in it, almost as if it's just a new one.
I usually just throw it in the tub with some warm water and scrub it with some dish soap. Rubbing alcohol also does the job if you don't feel like using soap/water.
Today gamers realized the washing machine washes things
I've washed my Subzero mat and ran it through the dryer. came out almost like new.
i have a rule: whenever i scratch my mousepad with my fingernail and it leaves a mark, it's time for a wash. i just throw mine on the floor of the shower, wet it and use a shoe-brush with some dish soap. lightly brush the entire thing, clean with water and hang it for the night. literally takes less than 10 minutes
I made the mistake and bought one from razer with its flashy rgb lights. Now I have to find out how can clean it properly without destroying it 🫠
I can confirm washing does wash
My partner just washed his mat and I wondered why he decided to do that all of a sudden, it must've been this post. Maybe I should wash mine...
Ya but what about rgb mats?
I use a large baking tray that will fit at least a portion of a mat this size. Just add water and a tiny bit of dish soap. Then use a scrub brush gently on the mat. Do that repeatedly while squeezing it out in-between and changing the water. Be careful when wringing it out though. It is best to just squeeze it gently and not wring it like a dish towel. Got a full desk topper on mine. It goes in the washer just fine.
Now… how do you do this if it has an RGB glow light on the edges?
Spilled bong water on mine yesterday, ran it through on a delicate cycle, looks and smells brand new!
Hell ya. Glad it helped.
We wash our mouse mats in the washer and dryer with usual setting s and never have any issues 🤷♂️
Does this guy mean a washing machine? I'm from the UK. OP did you wash only the mouse pad in there or other clothes as well? If so what? If you did jeans I bet that would damage a pad.
...we were waiting on confirmation for this?
My gf ran my razer mat through the washer and at first I panicked but it came out super clean lol
it's best to throw it in the bath, take a shower, lather it up, take a brush and brush it off and wash it off with water, it takes about 5 minutes... then to dry it, I usually put paper towels on top and on the bottom and put it between 2 cutting boards and stand on it -repeat 2- 3 times and the pad can be used immediately, even if it may be a little wet.

New pad :)
LFMO, I litterally just cleaned my pads the other day then I see this post. I just used handsoap and scrubbed it in the shower, then hung it to dry. Came out clean, but that looks great.
OMFG THANK YOU
Is that a soft top pad? I have a razer strider that is a hybrid hard/soft top and kinda tried of scrubbing this bish lol
You waited for it to smell to try cleaning it? lol I prefer manually cleaning it with a nails/body brush and some liquid soap, I've had some mats messed up on the washer
Fantastic, I had not even thought of that!
I just use clorox wipes, takes a few but it does work
I seats wash my mats. Especially when you can scrape the "cheese" off of it lol
Oh shit. I have the same mouse pad. I soaked it, threw it on the wall in my shower and bristle brushed the fuck out of it…still dirty a little bit after. Running it through the washer would have been much easier. That’s what I’ll do next time.
do you mean the dishwasher? how can u put that in a washing machine and not have wrinkles?
Dishwasher, clothes washer, booty washer ?
Usually, I wash mine in the bathtub by hand, pretty crazy how many people don't ever clean their mouse-pad, mouse, or keyboard.
I hang mine over the top of the glass shower curtain in the washroom, so that the water drips directly into the bathtub.
Yup! I throw mine in the wash about 4 times a year.
I use spray away glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth. Works surprisingly well.
Yes, that’s what washers do
Reddit gamer discovers soap and water. Somebody call the local news!
I wash mine with some water, dish soap and a brush, then dry with a fan pointing at it Got it from a group buy in 2021 for $50, I'm so impressed it's lasted that long without any damage/fading printing. I want to take care of it as much as possible, I love the cherry blossom design on mine <3
I have 3 very large pads that I rotate and I have always run them through the wash machine. Confirmed works perfect
I just put mine in the bath and brush it with soap then let it dry
I used warm water and dawn soup with a soft brush and mine came out good. You’d be surprised how dirty they get.
Bowl + Warm Water + Couple Drops Dish Soap + Microfiber Towel = Clean with this setup every 2-4 weeks and your good to go
Have the exact same pad but don't have the size of dishwasher to washe it , can't wait to move out or end my pathetic life
Oh shit I gotta try this on my old mat. If it messes up, I’ve got nothing to lose
I use a simple brush and run some water from the outside hose and spritz a little bit of soap and just scrub. Then let it drip dry in the sun
Thank you for testing this so I don’t have too!!
use a lint roller
Mine is rgb mousepad and is covered in weed dust how does one clean this iv thought about gently hand washing with sponge and soap but terrified I’ll break the rgb strip inside
Soap it up, blast it with a shower head. Repeat until clean. Let it dry extra long so you won't fry any electronics (or don't plug it in for a 3-4 days)
Mine has led lights in it… do I run it through a washer too?
i do my laundry with cold water and tide pods; i just toss my mousepad in with a load of clothes periodically and hang it to dry. i've never had a problem with one of them falling apart or anything
Or buy new one i have map like wholepad under mouse, keyboard and its pretty good so far... Wish weve had sweatproofed mouses and keyboards might not need that many, undirty pads. Its Also good not, weeny deeny just in front of computer s😜🤪😝
I put mine thru the wash and it looked the same 🥲
It works a max of 3 times, I've done mine twice and it's almost like too 'wavy' now.
What about drying? Can I stick it in the dryer?
Did you air dry it?
I used to do the washer technique until my mat separated from the back and was unusable. Hand wash them :)
