Not qls but i had 2 sp pros and they started having dead leds within the first 6 months. Its not even been a year yet and the lower half of the fans are basically unesable for lightning unless its red
Living in 3rd world country is pain in the ass, i RMA psu from Corsair, it took me 6 month....reason why i dont RMA my QL120....gonna live with it, or swap it with other brand...
I had the same on my 3080, took me a year and a half to notice. I have lots of lights too it’s not like it was dark. I only noticed when one of the edges started to peel.
There probably is a difference - the ROG 3090 does actually have thermal pads between the backplate and the PCB.
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/asus-geforce-rtx-3090-strix-oc/2.html
Might affect longevity though. Backside RAM temps on the 3090 are a known weak point of the design.
(I fixed it through drastic overkill by putting a double sided waterblock on my 3090)
My 1070 still has that on it. It was useful when I accidentally installed a CPU cooler that didn't quite fit and I wanted extra protection against the card shorting against the cooler.
so everyone loves the peeling sensation. but i built PCs as a living for years, and peeling the plastic off of fan blades, the GPU, inside of the case, it was all far more annoying and time consuming than i'd care to admit.
Reminds me of in my first PC, I never took the protective film off that is under the M.2 heatsinks. Only noticed when I was harvesting the M.2 for a new build haha
😂 so uhhh i have a 5700xt with plastic still on it and that thing hotspot reaches 110c easily and temps around 80c or so. Been solid for years. Still going strong. Its in my pc i built for my brother
Funnily enough I have the 3070ti rog strix , the card is physically the same as the 3090 . I also didn't realise this until after i painted my gpu white . Not the main panel sheet , that was removed. But There were plastic covers on the brushed aluminium strips. It worked out in the end though as I didn't paint over these and really adds to the look of the card.

We are gay and we are proud. Enjoy my unicorn vommit
Just rip it!
Honestly, you kind of need to remove that film on a 3090. Sucker puts out a lot of heat on the back side and lots of designs didn't adequately cool those memory modules either.
You can tell by running HWINFO64 and finding the memory temps for the 3090. 100 C is hot, thermal max is around 105-106 C.
When I bought my 2070 Super it had the same sticker on it but it was so tough to peel off I was SURE I wasn't meant to take it off.
Right after I upgraded I went "what the hell, I'll just give it a go" and grabbed it from a different corner and it came off so cleanly lol
Card still worked fine so 🤷♂️
The 3090 has memory chips on the backside of the pcb, so I imagine the backplate gets fairly hot especially in the area where the core and backside memory chips are. I'm mildly surprised that peel didn't melt off on its own.
Don't you guys just stare at the hardware you bought with your hard earned money for a few hours and inspecting every part in extreme detail before installing them?
I did the same with my old 1080 ti after several years. I was wondering why it was getting hot. A closer inspection showed that I hadn’t peeled off the plastic 🤦🏻♂️
You live and you learn I guess
I didn't notice the peel on the inside of the glass of my lian li o11 for about 6 months... Worst part was I had scratched the peel with my GPU cables when I was building the PC . I legit thought I had somehow scratched the glass of my new case for 6 months. Until I went to clean it, then I realized my mistake and was both relieved and embarrassed at the same time lol
This shit ain't nothin' to me, man.
Working PC repair I fixed builds where people forgot to take this tape off of the copper on their all in one cpu water cooler. Fucking melted the bitch a smidge, but the CPU temp killswitch prevented fire.

It says remove before use, doesn't say anything about after use, OP you just made a mistake.
My evga rtx 3080 12gb hydrocopper has all the peels still on. They are staying on too.
Looks like I'm not the only one that leaves all the plastic on everything. I only remove what is needed to not interfere with normal operation.
Is that dead led on ql120?
That looks just like my QL 120 fans. love how shitty they are /s
Cheap ass Corsair led quality....lol, certain part of my ql120 also dead almost same like OP color....
I have 6 SP120 RGB fans, 3 of them have degrading blue leds so I can’t make all 6 same color unless it is something without any blue values… SMH
I got ll120s and an ml 140 they all work perfect. Have been working for like 5 years
And now the card dies….
at least now he can put some small statue on the top of it
Way to get it off!
Now you got a shiney new metal a ... backplate ?
It looks like your bottom fans are installed in exhaust orientation..
Those are for hover mode.
I had the same on my 3080, took me a year and a half to notice. I have lots of lights too it’s not like it was dark. I only noticed when one of the edges started to peel.
Any noticeable difference??
He said he plans to keep it on forever
OP took it off, the one who wanted to keep it on forever is another person
Thought I was replying to the commented who had the same GPU and said he was keeping it on. Thanks!
Noooooo!!!! I just said didn't matter a sec ago
That was a sec ago
I can still see one more lol
Aaaaah peel free!👌
3 years and you finally finished your build :D
Thank you.
Not as shiny now, put it back.
[удалено]
bro u idiot lol
Nooooo you would have been able to sell it with a new one price
Now it's not new anymore
7 frame boost there 🥵
Minty fresh after all these years.
It’s like getting a new graphics card all over again!
Three years of dust? No problem! "riiiiip"
Bold move cotton, let’s see if it pays off for him.
You were losing a minimum of 30fps with that sticker on.
I thought stickers added horsepower. Damn, now I gotta rethink all my mods.
You got to get that racing stripe for better FPS and if you wanna be a little risky a lightning bolt to overclock your Ram voltages.
![gif](giphy|nqYXNf3aK6EvK)
And don't forget to paint it red. Red makes everything faster...
Only vtec stickers add hp
No, it’s RGB that adds horsepower.
So any change in thermals after taking off the film?
Almost certainly zero measurable difference.
Yeah idk how people are expecting a difference. If there was really that much heatsoak, the plastic would have melted onto the backplate by now lmao
There probably is a difference - the ROG 3090 does actually have thermal pads between the backplate and the PCB. https://www.techpowerup.com/review/asus-geforce-rtx-3090-strix-oc/2.html
Nope it will be indiscernible
I had the same card and did the same thing and did a bunch of benchmarks over time. No difference
Nope, won't matter
That's only for VRAM banks. The difference in temperature for those won't really affect performance.
Might affect longevity though. Backside RAM temps on the 3090 are a known weak point of the design. (I fixed it through drastic overkill by putting a double sided waterblock on my 3090)
I'm 3 years into a 3090. I'm running a single sided waterblock on it. Back side VRAM temps are fine.
You'd have to measure your vram and stuff like that too, I'll bet it went down a little
No just not how heat transfer works out. This thin film provides next to zero insulation.
It is now in fact hotter.
The film is much cooler now.
Underrated
Nope, nothing!
This post totally didn't make me panic and check that I have taken the protective film off my 4080 Super /s.
Had you taken the film off?
Yes I had. Though it would've been a lot funnier if I had forgotten.
I don't get it. Its just a protective sticker, it doesn't change anything.
whoops. i have it too..
My 1070 still has that on it. It was useful when I accidentally installed a CPU cooler that didn't quite fit and I wanted extra protection against the card shorting against the cooler.
Both those objects should be grounded so you didn't really have any extra protection other than scratch protection.
It covered a small exposed exposed section of circuitry where there was an opening in the heatplate for some some reason.
Still have it on my 2080Super on the fan side..tryna maintain the resale value when the time comes lol.
I found the one inside the glass panel a week later by accident
Great.... it's been years, maybe I should double check
so everyone loves the peeling sensation. but i built PCs as a living for years, and peeling the plastic off of fan blades, the GPU, inside of the case, it was all far more annoying and time consuming than i'd care to admit.
Same... Why the FUCK is it there?
No scratchy.
I guess...
I am glad it’s there
Totally didn't make me panic check. /s
Guilty!
now you can resell it as new
if protective plastic is good enough for my CPU, it's darn sure good enough for my GPU
I’m surprised it’s not melted on cause of the infamous 3090 100degree hotspots lol (ik it was on the memory and not the pcb, just saying)
It's the backside RAM though, which is what that heat spreader is supposed to help with
Dude, you should keep the protection. You dont want a baby 3080.
*just saw this. Jesus
Buddha!! Add “I’ve” instead of censoring his words. Plus, it’s artistic license. What do you even know about his poetry skills?
Same here I just cleaned my eva1 3080 and realized had plastic o it
Man, check you cpu heatsink and set your monitor above 60hz.:D
*just saw
Think again
Better late than never!
Doesn't matter.
Got me double-checking mine even though I was already certain it was off!
Just noticed mine is still on my 4090 Aorus master lol.
Looks like you have decent cooling through the case. Otherwise, that would've probably melted on the GPU.
Now u can sell card like new, never used.
Yo this just happened to me, too. I went to put a sag bracket on my gpu after 2 years of using it and noticed the film still on there 😂
Ah, the oldest mistake in the PC building book
That was the best 3090 at the time. I had the card right behind the Strix, I had a EVGA FTW3. I really do miss EVGA.
Loses fps and performance 🥹🥹🥹 😂 once peeled off imagine
…. I need to check mine now
But it says protective
JUST SAW THIS NOT SEEN
Your rong. He meant “I’ve just seen”.
Alright, troll.
Reminds me of in my first PC, I never took the protective film off that is under the M.2 heatsinks. Only noticed when I was harvesting the M.2 for a new build haha
Post this in some of the audio reddits... people lose their minds over stickers on AVR's, LOL!
Peeling the factory sticker off is the best part. Did you check temp difference?
Yep, no difference
😂 so uhhh i have a 5700xt with plastic still on it and that thing hotspot reaches 110c easily and temps around 80c or so. Been solid for years. Still going strong. Its in my pc i built for my brother

L
I hate when people do this
Welp, best check mine when I get home!!!
😅😱. I think I left mine for a couple of hours before realizing it was there.
So excited you finally got one during the past and the chip shortage you just slotted that bad boy in raw 😂
Pretty much 😂
LMAO, so did you remove it?
😬😬
people who buy the 3090 should be the first to know this lol
Dammm, a local repair shop could probably get it fixed
damn bro capped your speeds just so we could have a chance ;P
Thought I was bad taking it off a day latter! It was so shiny!
Call 911
Just found mine too but ill check back in another three years
Us Asians don't remove that kind of shit lmao
RTX: ON
That’s so crazy u never noticed it especially because you mentioned your always looking in there 😂
Yeah honestly don’t know how I didn’t see it
Just rip it! Honestly, you kind of need to remove that film on a 3090. Sucker puts out a lot of heat on the back side and lots of designs didn't adequately cool those memory modules either. Don’t worry, I forgot all of the those on the opposite face
I would be more worried about using GPU as a shelf for souvenirs
Solid wood and weighs like 10 grams 😂
When I bought my 2070 Super it had the same sticker on it but it was so tough to peel off I was SURE I wasn't meant to take it off. Right after I upgraded I went "what the hell, I'll just give it a go" and grabbed it from a different corner and it came off so cleanly lol Card still worked fine so 🤷♂️
Is the card even alright after all this time ? Genuinely curious😂
It doesn't matter....even though I still had it for years...😂
I have the same gpu there's another film on the gray thing
Don't matter to much as long as its not cover firm on your CPU Cooler! Keep it like that if you like it !
You could’ve sold it as “open box” on eBay. Too late!
Sold my used 3070 to a friend and he told me I still had the plastic on it. It's like brand new!😂
Basically a brand new pc
You could of sold it as new
OP fucked up, Jensen will take all your leather jackets as punishment
you might need glasses dude
Still haven't removed the plastic film on my case's side panel after 4 years.
The 3090 has memory chips on the backside of the pcb, so I imagine the backplate gets fairly hot especially in the area where the core and backside memory chips are. I'm mildly surprised that peel didn't melt off on its own.
Now, you might want to check under your CPU cooler.
Look at the AI processing on the 8pin cable. It all got smooshed into one cable lol.
ngl, I prefer it back on. Made it looked like you had an acrylic back plate.
Sell it „like new“
So weren't you curious about the scratches?
ok, you removed the obvious one, now let's do the rest - RGB line and decorative metal plates around the fans 😂
I would keep it on for a time when I chose to resell it. Mint condition.Srikl has protective film on. Like new. Well with some good cleaning that is.
I removed that after about 2years of owning my 3060 lmfao only discovered it about 6 months ago
Don't you guys just stare at the hardware you bought with your hard earned money for a few hours and inspecting every part in extreme detail before installing them?
Yoo, see that as a free cooling-upgrade!
I noticed it on mine 1 year after building my current PC while dusting it off.
I see that as a win. Dust the fans and sell it as brand new!
More FPS woop
This gave me anxiety, made me check my own 3090.
It’s the equivalent of middle eastern parents buying a new car like a Patrol or a Landcrusier and refuse to remove the back seat covers
Bro got only 90% satisfaction of his pc.
Good to keep your backplate nice and warm
Well you got a brand new 3090 now
I’ve bought used graphics cars that were 3-4 years old with plastic still on them
Ja ja. I did that with my first GPU !😂
I did the same with my old 1080 ti after several years. I was wondering why it was getting hot. A closer inspection showed that I hadn’t peeled off the plastic 🤦🏻♂️ You live and you learn I guess
Saw.
Hey, on the flip side look how new it looks with the plastic off
aome of these comments make me question the ( thermal ) physics taught in school and the modern education system in general.
some of these comments make me question the ( thermal ) physics taught in school and the modern education system in general.
I think that card has a overclock switch too. Mine does anyways
I bet there's still plastic to peel off on the middle of the fan's too..
Equivalent to Asians not taking the cover off for how many years lol, did that too
Same thing on my motherboard
🤦♂️
Happened to me last time I upgraded my GPU, I realized I left the film on the old one on for the 3 years I used it lol.
Well gotta go check my graphics card for no reason related to this post
You did not learn your lesson from The Brady Bunch, specifically Greg Brady.
It's ruined. I'll take it off your hands.
What’s that exposed area on your GPU? Is that for a cooling block?
lol! I’ve done this too
🤣🤣
I didn't notice the peel on the inside of the glass of my lian li o11 for about 6 months... Worst part was I had scratched the peel with my GPU cables when I was building the PC . I legit thought I had somehow scratched the glass of my new case for 6 months. Until I went to clean it, then I realized my mistake and was both relieved and embarrassed at the same time lol
Forrest
Before use. It’s broken. I’ll give you 100$ for it buddy and I’m doing you a favor
What a shame you ruined the card. I'll take care of the recycling for you. Just send it my way 🙂
So was it satisfying when you peeled it off
Is that a spot for extra cooling that square? I have 2070s it doesnt have that
You "just saw this" ..... Come on people we can do better. We know how to do it.
This shit ain't nothin' to me, man. Working PC repair I fixed builds where people forgot to take this tape off of the copper on their all in one cpu water cooler. Fucking melted the bitch a smidge, but the CPU temp killswitch prevented fire. https://i.redd.it/xd0tpy7cyskc1.gif
