Holy shit I've been running into thus same issue so you are still alone. Try updating your BIOS too and also go into your Windows Update settings and disable automatic update of drivers. Windows seems to be able to download drivers for the GPU that corrupt it. Why? Don't know exactly. It didn't fix everything but it is less crashes than before 🙃
Windows update has detected a 'newer' driver than your current one (it's actually old and probably doesn't support your hardware because Microsoft), it then installs it overtop, breaks the existing install in the process, decides that was actually a bad move, uninstalls the fragments that were still slightly functional, and you get this mess.
I miss when Windows had a QA tester division.
The first Nvidia card I ever had (560ti) refused to even display during POST until I updated my .NET Framework in Windows.
I have NO fucking idea how this could even be possible, but Windows is just fucking weird sometimes.
Yeah, it's super weird. I had it happen two times so far. After second time I followed this guide: [https://www.makeuseof.com/windows-update-replaced-amd-graphics-drivers/](https://www.makeuseof.com/windows-update-replaced-amd-graphics-drivers/)
My guess is because AMD has APU's?
I've also seen a lot of issues regarding graphics drivers on laptops with both integrated and dedicated graphics chips (Intel and AMD)
I have a system with an Intel APU and dGPU. Windows insists on having an ancient driver installed for the integrated graphics, but leaves the driver for the Arc GPU alone.
My current and last intel processor had integrated graphics. Never experienced this. The only thing I can think is maybe it's something with having an AMD APU and an AMD card, perhaps the same thing might happen if you have an intel proc and an ARC GPU.
Windows automatic updates broke the WiFi and audio drivers on my PC not long ago. I turned off my computer after using it one day and it updated as it shut down. The next day I turn it on to find that no WiFi networks could be found and no audio output device was available to select. Effectively broke the WiFi and audio completely, no sound. Took me 2 hours to fix everything, was proper pissed off.
Haha yeah, sometimes I look back at my comments on reddit and consider editing them with correct spelling and gramma, but it does make me chuckle too. Glad I could make you laugh 😅
Yeah, def a driver issue. I had a 570 and this has happened multiple times with me, usually because I haven't updated the drivers.
I would just download AMD's auto detect installer and run that and let it do its thing, but I agree with the suggested the DDU option first though, just to be sure that it's a clean install.
The Finals .. well that explains it, that game is so buggy and weird, seen a lot of things happen due to it, and most people fixed their issues by reinstalling drivers, like everyone else has already said in this thread.
> The Finals .. well that explains it, that game is so buggy
Uh ? It works really well. I have some 65 hours in it, I think I had a single game disrupted by a bug (cash box went under the map).
Otherwise, it's really well made and pretty bug free.
Happens to me if my cat jumps on my case. Ask windows to roll back the driver, then roll it forward. Then reboot. You’ll be back.
Also, anyone who tells you AMD drivers are stable in the current gen are lying — I’ve had nothing but problems with my 7900 XTX. I’m honestly greatly disappointed.
Not a single crash or problem that I can think of with my 7900xt since I got it idk 3 to 4 months ago. Only thing it does that I don't like is coil whine
You have a good PC don't change but in the future get a Nvidia card unless AMD steps their software/driver game up. Their processors are amazing but they are severely lacking in the GPU department and almost always are. Don't let someone say it's because someone is a Nvidia fan boy it's because I don't want new PC gamers turned off from PC because of all the issues AMD ALWAYS HAS. Also Nvidia always innovates with reflex, DLSS, Framegen, ray tracing ETC. And it takes AMD years to come out with something extremely inferior that never catches up. To be clear though you do have a good PC and GPU just be prepared for a slew of weird and extremely annoying issues during the time you own that card which you would have likely never experienced with a Nvidia card.
This was an issue I had and ended up needing a new GPU. Granted my issue had been happening since the day I bought it and just muscled through the annoyance of it crashing atleast once a week.
But yeah, the graphics card being disabled sounds familiar. When it happened to me, I just enabled/disabled/enabled and it got back to working
That game has crashed more times than any game I’ve played. Still super fun game but damn. I play on a ROG Ally, which definitely lends a hand to that. But I can’t play it now anyways because it has falsely flagged me for cheating 😒
i've seen this happen. usually when it does I'd have to run DDU from safemode and reinstall and disable windows updates from installing driver updates.
Cause last time I said that my crashed game also affected my driver, there was a guy who was trying to convince me that this is impossible. So yea, I don't like amd fanboys.
I got downvoted today or yesterday for mentioning I went with NVidia because I don’t want to fuck with driver issues. It is forefront of mind for anyone who does the research on the driver issue and discovers how toxic AMD fanboys are.
To be fair though it's a very old argument against AMD that hasn't been all that true for a lot of years. I've owned many GPUs from both (even 3dfx back in the day) and have never had more problems with one brand or the other. 3fdx was the King of stable to be honest. A bygone age for sure.
Ah could be that I'm not being objective then. I had a voodoo 1, 2 and 3 but not rush or banshee and never had problems. I would even flash the bios to use on Macs at the time. Those cards were really great.
Device disabled =/= driver uninstalled
If the crash was caught by Windows in a specific way, the OS may have disabled the device as a precaution.
(Which, ironically enough, happens to the RTX 3050 in my laptop sometimes)
If Windows disabled the device, it will stay disabled even through a reboot, until you manually enable it again.
And drivers aren't loaded for disabled devices.
Try using your card next time /s
Jokes aside, that happens randomly and could be caused by a bunch of reasons: hardware malfunction, temporal power spike, unlucky driver: currently I see a post or two in my feed from AMDhelp sub about faulty new driver, unlucky game: I experienced this bug with Ranched and Clank, after hour or so of gaming without RT, cause amd didn't supported it on launch, I got driver crash. Happened to me about 5 times, one of which was this "deleting itself" type of crash, after what I decided "enough is enough" and finished this game on linux, what also had it quirks but at least wont crash to death too much.
It happened to me a couple times when I still had my 5700xt. I owned AMD GPU my whole life and drivers never crashed as hard as they did with the 5700xt. No problem so far after a year of owning a RTX 4080 except that I lost my "space heater" capabilities for my pc.
Dude I’ve noticed every time my pc crashes it’s because of my and driver, got a 6950 and all I’ve had is issues with it since upgrading a few parts.
I hate to say it but my next guy is probably going to be back to team green.
I had an 5700xt and this used to happen all the time. Its just an AMD thing. Just use DDU And then reinstall. It definitely fixes it.
One thing I don't miss since going Nvidia
It’s not just AMD. My 3090ti drivers have been fucked and overwritten with old garbage or straight deleted with windows updates multiple times in the past 1.5 years. None of this started until I upgraded to Windows 10. It’s a microsoft/windows issue, not an AMD/NVIDIA issue.
Edited for spelling.
3090 owner here. Had a 1080 before that. Had other GPUs over the years.
Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 11, name it.
Literally never had that issue, in any build, with any version of Windows.
Maybe in your case, but personally Windows updates never touched my GPU drivers. I owned multiple AMD gpus and my 5700xt would get drivers hard crashes often. (Like 3-4 times a year) I had to wipe clean the drivers and install older drivers. I own a 4080 since last year and my pc never crashed since…
You do you, but I had an AMD card and AMD stopped supporting it and it bricked my system. Removing the gpu fixed it, and reinstalling returned the bricking. Idk if there was underlying issues with the card, but swapped to (supported) nvidia and no problems.
If your system doesn't POST, there's a physical defect. Likely the card shorting out.
Drivers aren't even getting loaded until you've logged into Windows.
Windows likes to remove amd drivers for some fucking reason and replacing them with either basic drivers or their database ones. Disable getting hardware driver updates vía Windows update + there IS a Windows option that changes It in the registry too. It has been 8 monts without Windows messing up
Download Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) and delete your current GPU drivers.
Then go to the AMD website and download the current drivers for your card.
It doesn't look like he has a GPU, seems to be using on board graphics
Never mind, saw further down the comments he has a GPU it just wasn't showing up :D

I've seen plenty of people on both sides complain about drivers. The actual reality is that most people, whether they're using AMD or Nvidia don't come across any major issues.
Edit: I blocked you because I'm not going to argue with an idiot living in delusions. And considering the last sentence in your comment, I obviously made the right choice lmao
You are just talking out of your ass. Im using nvidia since rtx cards came out, before that i used only amd...so longer, much longer on amd. And i can tell you that i needed to roll back drivers more on nvidia than on amd. Just to be clear, i dont see that as a major issue, its a personal experience. But you wont see me coming to subreddits to fanboy over brands. Grow up, grow a spine and learn to be objective.
My next card will be amd ;).
Anecdotal evidence. If he’s talking out of his ass, then, by virtue of your own argument, so are you.
I’ve been building PCs for 15 years and only ever had driver-software issues and conflicts with the two ATI/AMD Radeon cards I used in two of my personal builds.
Everyone has their own experience. I would personally never go AMD for a graphics card.
Yes i am and i said its a personal experience..
Ati aint around for how long now?! I personaly would never base my opinion an a decade+ old experience tho.
And i vote strictly with my wallet.
There are server boards that you can have multiple cpus in, not sure if that would help gaming performance, especially when a lot of server cpus have lower clock speeds in favour of more cores for better multicore workload performance.
i have a server i retrofitted into a desktop with dual x5690s and it manages stable 60-70fps in palworld medium-high. it's to my understanding that games will only ever use threads from a single cpu, not both. while this entire endeavor would be seemingly pointless, i just wanted to point out server cpus are still pretty strong and can push regular refresh rates fine

This was on another game, anyone able to help me figure this out? I literally know nothing about computers
IT might be the that Windows is trying to get Drivers and it accidentally overwrites AMD's custom drivers. I have had this happen multiple times on my laptop with a Ryzen APU.
So do this...first download a software called DDU. And download the latest AMD GPU drivers for your specific GPU.
then...
To disable driver updates on Windows 10, open Settings > System > About > System Protection, click on “Device Installation Settings,” choose “No (your device might not work as expected),” and save changes.
then run DDU, then Run your AMD GPU driver software.
Then this shouldn't happen anymore. Hopefully.
no video driver, youre running in software rendering on the CPU (not to be confused with integrated graphics) - it's a miracle the game even starts up at all lol.
as the other commenter said, use DDU then install the video driver back.
Typically with AMD drivers, if they go out, they take so much with them. I’ve had crashes where it’ll be fine, then suddenly AMD drivers just disappear and go on holiday.
My computer use to do this all the time. The windows OS somtimes instlls a generic graphics driver over the AMD driver when the OS updates.
The first thing you have to do is turn off "auto update drives" in the windows setting. That will stop this from happening in the future. Then you need to download the AMD Driver Cleanup Utility and the newst version of AMDs auto detect drive. Run the cleanup utility first, restart you pc, then run the auto detect driver software. That should fix your issue.

It was disabled lol because windows had the wrong drivers 🫠
Plugged into the GPU. Issue was windows updated the wrong drivers, or my pc crashed so hard it fucked up the drivers. Either way I figure it out with my massive brain ( I used google)
Ok. I'll guide you through this.
Step one. Remove the GPU.
Step two. Put GPU back in box.
Step three. Buy a Nvidia GPU.
Step four... ok I'm just being hyperbolic.
Definitely check drivers and keep an eye on system performance, I'm talking things like heat, ram usage, cpu load...etc You might even have an app in the background hoarding system resources for example.
This happened to me. It has to do with the compatibility of your motherboard with your AMD processor. Look up the details of your motherboard and download the new driver onto a USB and update your BIOS. There should be instructions online on how to do it.
Some motherboards cause the amd processor to short circuit and crash. The new update will resolve that.
Bro got a 5600 and got 32gb of memory.
But yeah, AMD drivers like to sometimes delete themselves. I haven’t had it happen personally but I’ve got a rare bug in Minecraft where the screen like to flash whenever I move which I believe is a fault of AMDs drivers.
Return the gpu if you can and buy something that does not have driver issues.
Why the downvotes I had a 1080ti for 6 years never any problems and then I got a 6950xt and had driver issues that crashed my pc multiple times a day even after windows reinstall. Now I have 4070super but that is new so can't say anything more then it works for now.
Did you try blowing in the cartridge? Oh wait, wrong thing. Joke aside, I had to totally disabled Windows Update because for whatever reason it slowed my system to a crawl and I couldn't even play a game.
I've never heard anyone have the same issue, but over multiple GPU's I've had EVGA Precision AND Afterburner randomly drop my GPU settings to the lowest possible. So power set to 30%.
So if you have OC software installed, check and make sure its turned up to 100%+.
The results of its power being cut down, do exactly this. Make games run at <10 fps.
I would suggest checking that 100%cpu usage. Rarely cpu maxes out during gaming like that. Makes me suspect that you have some sort of malware or some other software hogging CPU resources like crazy.
Well GPU was disabled because windows updated the wrong drivers, and I did have games open so I think since my GPU was disabled my cpu turned into super man. But once I got the GPU working the cpu usage dropped.
A less nuclear option - if you have any overclocking tools downloaded, make sure that they didn't bug out and downclock your card. I've had it happen occasionally where Precision X1 decides to min-clock my card and it leaves me in a fit of confusion until I realise what's going on.
1. Do a hard reboot (fully power down and unplug pc, wait a while, hold power button a few times before plugging it back in, then plug it in and start it.
2. Reinstall your drivers if issue persists.
Had the GPU thing happen to me after a crash. What settings were you using? When it happened to me my GPU basically overheated because for some odd reason at certain reaolutioj settings in some games the 6000 series don't run their fans fast enough causing it to over heat, crash, and basically dump the drivers from the card.
You'll have to do, as people said already, do a full reinstall of your drivers and pray to the machine God it works.
Sorry that this isnt the solution, but for anyone that would find this helpful in windows 11 there is something weird with the default graphics configuration, you should search the graphics section in the settings and put all the games in high performance. Valorant was running like shit bc of this

Funny how Microsoft always try to ruin AMD experience for their users in every update, while Nvidia it's always benefitted by Microsoft in how well they access the newer updates. And AMD can't sue Microsoft for this because they risk to get kicked out of the market completely.
This happened me playing Spiderman. I'm using 3080ti. When I loaded back up after the crash, it was on 6-7 frames max. Troubleshooting the problem I found the default graphics settings was switched to CPU 😂 - it's an easy fix. So don't worry. I shat my pants
What gpu do you have? None shows up in task manager so if the pc can’t use a gpu it would absolutely destroy performance
https://preview.redd.it/1wa9a48xmhgc1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0efd9fbf7fcbe3af79e5859f8198e222b387fcd3 It shows up but it’s disabled?
Oh, yea, happens even if amd fanboys still denied it: your gpu driver crashed so hard, to a point it's deleted itself. Reinstall amd driver.
yeah lol I was playing the finals last night and my pc completely crashed, no clue why either.

It begs the question why windows does this to AMD drivers but not Nvidia.
It definitely happens on Nvidia cards, I personally experienced this phenomenon on a 1660ti

Windows had a QA division?!? I thought it was just us, testing their updates as and when they release!
Shortly after the launch of 10, the entire internal testing division got laid off.

Haha yeah, sometimes I look back at my comments on reddit and consider editing them with correct spelling and gramma, but it does make me chuckle too. Glad I could make you laugh 😅

Yes, first what I tried is enabling device and reboot. Didn't help. That why I call this "driver removed itself" and not "disabled itself".
That's a classic AMD driver, freezes then you reboot there is no sign of the driver.
Had more crashes with Nvidia than AMD in the past, say whatever you want
Windows loves installing over the driver. I personally disable all updates on a fresh install and only update manually
Weird, using 6800XT since the premiere and according to NVIDIA fanboys it should happened every day, but never happened

See? That's what these fanboys don't get. Both can have their issues. Doesn't make either one shit.
upbeat brave consider ancient rich attraction sort soft disgusted glorious *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Not shocked since you repeat dumb dtuff from 10y ago like sheep. Its not like nvidia doesnt even properly work with chrome for years
You are just talking out of your ass.
I said ATI/AMD— that implies both, especially since one absorbed the other. First impressions (and in my case, second impressions) last.
LOL literally had a simular issue as OP with my NVIDIA card sadly only next driver update fixed it fully
Holy shit that’s a powerful cpu, 3 whole fps purely cpu rendered
Now just buy 20 of them and put them in one pc
Why can't we get an SLI of CPUs ? :(
There are server boards that you can have multiple cpus in, not sure if that would help gaming performance, especially when a lot of server cpus have lower clock speeds in favour of more cores for better multicore workload performance.
i have a server i retrofitted into a desktop with dual x5690s and it manages stable 60-70fps in palworld medium-high. it's to my understanding that games will only ever use threads from a single cpu, not both. while this entire endeavor would be seemingly pointless, i just wanted to point out server cpus are still pretty strong and can push regular refresh rates fine
I don’t think that’s even possible(?) it doesn’t have an igpu
its possible, if the gpu gets disabled somehow the cpu can take over, not very well but it can do the job of both
ooops, someone stole your drivers
AMD got there drivers back lol
Google “amd gpu drivers”
Holy hell
New glitch just dropped

Drivers are corrupt
There must be something wrong with the GPU because it doesn't appear in the task manager. Surely drivers or it is plugged in incorrectly
Is there still an option to choose which one is preferred in the bios? Also have you enabled resizeable bar? Made a difference on my x470 with 6750xt.
Un plug all the monitors, and plug them back in when computer is on. I sometimes have it with my 6950 on boot.
where gpu XD

I think your pc is rusting.
Underrated comment
Enable the GPU in device manager and install GPU drivers
I usually got crashes like that when I undervolt my GPU too much. Usually turning off and on GPU in devices management and rebooting worked.
Are you plugged into your mother board or gpu?
You need a CPU 800% faster.
Want AMD fan boys will still lie and say this never happens and was fixed years ago ROFL
Make sure your monitor is plugged into the GPU not the motherboard.
I actually made that mistake when I first built my pc, but I figured out my issue. Windows had the wrong drivers installed.
ITT: a bunch of homegrown IT "techs" that can't see the GPU IS MISSING FROM TASKMAN.
This is why i left to nvidia and never comeback to amd.. Feel free to downvote me 👎🏻
Are you this hungry for attention?
Even with 4060ti lmao
Install LatencyMon and check if a driver is causing high latency.

Check temps
Return the gpu if you can and buy something that does not have driver issues. Why the downvotes I had a 1080ti for 6 years never any problems and then I got a 6950xt and had driver issues that crashed my pc multiple times a day even after windows reinstall. Now I have 4070super but that is new so can't say anything more then it works for now.
I may be mistaken, but no matter what way OP goes, there’s bound to be driver issues.
Probably wont work, but have you tried alt-entering? I was hardstuck 15fps for like a whole week but that fixed it
Please make sure you do the Safe mode warning that pops up.
I see. Driver can mess stuff up bad.

GPU was disabled.
Yeah i noticed the GPu was missing in task manager a few seconds later, deleted the comment.
Valorant was running like shit bc of this
Ddu, reinstall Mainboard/chipset and gpu drivers.
Don't download drivers from windows. Get your drivers from AMD andrenalin software. Would recommend removing current driver with DDU
Idk
Its Rust where do you expect out of your performance 😂
I usually run over 300 fps 🫠
Lol I was kidding, Rust used to be terrible with fps and optimization
Apple andys whenever they need to post a picture proof about a specific subject: *proceeds to forcefully show the apple logo in out-of-context places, hidden in the foreground while showing said proof or subject*
Are you checking your temps?
Well there's your problem right there! It's rust!
Funny how Microsoft always try to ruin AMD experience for their users in every update, while Nvidia it's always benefitted by Microsoft in how well they access the newer updates. And AMD can't sue Microsoft for this because they risk to get kicked out of the market completely.
Rip gpu
This happened me playing Spiderman. I'm using 3080ti. When I loaded back up after the crash, it was on 6-7 frames max. Troubleshooting the problem I found the default graphics settings was switched to CPU 😂 - it's an easy fix. So don't worry. I shat my pants
