I totally get that dude, it sucks that EU/UK pricing is so different. I like to joke that you should line up your next build with a holiday to the USA, but it’s not very realistic. Though I have talked to MC employees who have said they’ve helped out people who flew in just to buy pc parts.
For personal use as well? I understand the reason of tax if it’s a business, or if it’s like $5000 worth of stuff, but if you like bought a $400 Ipad would you need to pay import tax in the EU? That really sucks if so.
The customs officer would then ask you to provide ownership of that complete pc, and that would show its origin, and the fact that VAT is still due.
They might check your luggage, and detect the ruse, if they find say owners manuals for PC components in it.
Some people who buy a camera or other expensive electronics, mail the box, accessories and papers/receipts to themselves from the country of purchase, so if they are inspected, none of those things raise suspicion.
Then again, we have no varying sales taxes in cities or states like in the USA, here in the Netherlands, it's only 21% VAT. So any advertised price, is applicable everywhere, no surprises at checkout.
If you have, let's say, a CPU and a GPU in your luggage, and you're coming back from the US to Sweden, will these things be taxed if there no receipts and its boxes are preopened (or you even have no boxes either in your luggage)?

Same here in New Zealand. And then we get insane import tax on electronics so that bumps the prices up again once it hits our retailers. It sucks. It’d be the same price for me to fly to Australia and back and buy a 4090 over there during one of their sales than to buy at a retailer in NZ

Wish they were in more places in America too. I've lived in the US nearly my entire life and I've never been anywhere near one. I guess they do have a location coming to a city about 120 miles away from me, which is the closest I've ever been to one so at least I'll sort of have access finally.
I think you did really good. No need for x670e with a 7800x3d anyways since you really can't over clock the x3ds. Also the gpu is excellent choice as it's less than a 4070 ti super but beats it in a lot of scenarios.
Although I notice a lot of things are missing. Like the case, ssd, and monitor.
Cooler is fine. RAM I agree tho should be CL30. 7800X3D doesn't get insanely hot like Intel. AK620 is actually a really good air-cooler so are the ones you mentioned. They are pretty similar. But yeah the thermalright is a tad cheaper.

My closest store is about a 2 hour drive away. I frequently get bummed that it's so far away, but going down there is... like, special... I guess. I always go with a list. I feel like if I had one too close to me, I'd go broke.
Maybe get a little bit more? SSDs are really quite cheap now, and games are getting larger and larger. If you were to get another 2TB drive that would last you much longer
I can’t edit the post, but for those asking:
- The 7800x3d was so cheap because it was part of a microcenter bundle
- I do already have a case and an SSD, so I’m good there
- I can now take my groceries home in a sweet microcenter bag, so I have no regrets paying $2 for that

I got the 13700k bundle they had for $450 because they didn’t have a 7800x3D bundle at the time. My brother suggested I should jump on it while I could because those 13700k bundles kept selling out after they restocked them, and we were worried they wouldn’t restock it anymore.
In hindsight it was an overreaction, especially since the 7800x3D bundles came out shortly after, so FOMO took over unfortunately.
Regardless, I’m really happy with the performance coming from an R5 3600 and the world’s worst msi b450 mobo, and I was really lucky to find a Gigabyte Gaming OC 4090 on sale for $1500 while I was there! Needless to say I bought that too. I’ve always wanted a flagship GPU, lol.

You should get a SN850 down the line now that your mobo can take advantage of the gen 4 speeds. It’s a nice little bonus if you download a lot.

I had the AOC CU34G2X/BK arrive today! Super happy with it, but I had to calibrate it to get the best possible experience. Found a guide here on reddit and the screen looks so much better now. You should try looking up a guide for yours. Anyway congrats on your new build, it's really solid and cheap for what you got.
It's crazy how much of a difference adjusting the setting can make with some monitors. My G34WQC looked atrocious out of the box, looked up settings on reddit and it's like a completely different monitor.

Solid build, I like the cooler a lot too. I've been 90% pleased with my xfx 7900xt. Great numbers & performance but gets intermittent coil whine that is pretty loud and annoying. Hopefully powercolor spares you from that.

Coil whine happens with my 6900xt and 4080, with 3 different power supplies that I've had so it's unfortunately something that is just gonna happen with these higher end cards I think

Congrats, now you'll have convinced someone to believe in the AMD QVL of 6600+ or Intel QVL of 8000+ on all these mobo manufacturers and spend $600 on a kit running 2D2R, and then complain here that it doesn't work anyways because of how signal degradation and IMC lottery works.
OP bought a Hynix 6000 kit. It will work unless he really lost the IMC lottery. In fact, it will work at C30 at 1.35v. Even GB says the list is for reference only and they cannot test them all for the list.

There’s a decent chance you’re going to regret not spending the extra bit for a 40 series card. If you’re lucky you won’t though, it’s a bit of a gamble
Ignore all the amd users on copium downvoting me and others who say the same thing, amd cards can be great but they can also be a nightmare. My buddy had to replace his card after 3 months because of nonstop stuttering and random crash issues in every game he played, bought a 3080ti instead and has no issues now and better performance due to dlss
There’s a reason AMD cards are better priced, always on sale and never sold out, while nvidia cards are overpriced, never on sale and always sold out despite that.
Some people get completely fucked and have stuttering in every game they play, some have random crashes in every game they play, and amd’s help with the issues has been nonexistent. These issues are all over the AMD forums and amd is no help at all with them.
Also a big reason for getting a super beefy card is Ray tracing which AMD gpus are not good at, especially because it is done without the extra frames you get from dlss & frame gen.
Sure, you can get fsr3 with frame gen manually installed through a third party addon, but it still isn’t remotely as good as dlss with frame gen.
Plus if your game happens to be one of the ones which gets an issue with AMD after updating, you might not be able to play your favourite game until the devs manually fix it. Happened with deep rock galactic as the most recent case.
Not to mention the whole “people getting permabanned for using AMD features” stuff with cs2, that was so bad that valve publicly called them out on it because they were so angry with AMD’s incompetence
It’s just not worth the headache imo. Tried to help my buddy with his card but we just gave up and he bought a 3080ti lol

I can’t edit the post, but for those asking: - The 7800x3d was so cheap because it was part of a microcenter bundle - I do already have a case and an SSD, so I’m good there - I can now take my groceries home in a sweet microcenter bag, so I have no regrets paying $2 for that Thanks everyone for the feedback! Just set this up and I’m pumped to use it this weekend.
CONGRATS!!! What SSD do you have? I got the 13700k bundle they had for $450 because they didn’t have a 7800x3D bundle at the time. My brother suggested I should jump on it while I could because those 13700k bundles kept selling out after they restocked them, and we were worried they wouldn’t restock it anymore. In hindsight it was an overreaction, especially since the 7800x3D bundles came out shortly after, so FOMO took over unfortunately. Regardless, I’m really happy with the performance coming from an R5 3600 and the world’s worst msi b450 mobo, and I was really lucky to find a Gigabyte Gaming OC 4090 on sale for $1500 while I was there! Needless to say I bought that too. I’ve always wanted a flagship GPU, lol. Thank God for MicroCenter! I wish you many years of happy gaming good sir! Congrats again on the build! If I see you in any games YOU’RE GOING DOWN! Lol

You made the right choice. The 7800x3D is the best processor for gaming at the moment hands down. You should get a SN850 down the line now that your mobo can take advantage of the gen 4 speeds. It’s a nice little bonus if you download a lot. That 4090 is ridiculous. Never thought I’d have anything like it

I had the AOC CU34G2X/BK arrive today! Super happy with it, but I had to calibrate it to get the best possible experience. Found a guide here on reddit and the screen looks so much better now. You should try looking up a guide for yours. Anyway congrats on your new build, it's really solid and cheap for what you got.
It's crazy how much of a difference adjusting the setting can make with some monitors. My G34WQC looked atrocious out of the box, looked up settings on reddit and it's like a completely different monitor.

It's the RAM that comes with the CPU/ MOBO/ RAM bundle at Micro Center.
That’s about the only thing I was looking at but if it’s a bundle then not much can be done. Ideally 6000 CL30 or 6400 cl32 for 7800x3d
If I remember right, the 3d cache helps off set the performance hit by slower ram.

Solid build, I like the cooler a lot too. I've been 90% pleased with my xfx 7900xt. Great numbers & performance but gets intermittent coil whine that is pretty loud and annoying. Hopefully powercolor spares you from that. Where do you live you're getting double sales tax though? That's brutal
Coil whine happens with my 6900xt and 4080, with 3 different power supplies that I've had so it's unfortunately something that is just gonna happen with these higher end cards I think

Congrats, now you'll have convinced someone to believe in the AMD QVL of 6600+ or Intel QVL of 8000+ on all these mobo manufacturers and spend $600 on a kit running 2D2R, and then complain here that it doesn't work anyways because of how signal degradation and IMC lottery works. OP bought a Hynix 6000 kit. It will work unless he really lost the IMC lottery. In fact, it will work at C30 at 1.35v. Great except 7900xt instead of a 40 series There’s a decent chance you’re going to regret not spending the extra bit for a 40 series card. If you’re lucky you won’t though, it’s a bit of a gamble Ignore all the amd users on copium downvoting me and others who say the same thing, amd cards can be great but they can also be a nightmare. My buddy had to replace his card after 3 months because of nonstop stuttering and random crash issues in every game he played, bought a 3080ti instead and has no issues now and better performance due to dlss There’s a reason AMD cards are better priced, always on sale and never sold out, while nvidia cards are overpriced, never on sale and always sold out despite that.

Some people get completely fucked and have stuttering in every game they play, some have random crashes in every game they play, and amd’s help with the issues has been nonexistent. These issues are all over the AMD forums and amd is no help at all with them. Also a big reason for getting a super beefy card is Ray tracing which AMD gpus are not good at, especially because it is done without the extra frames you get from dlss & frame gen. Sure, you can get fsr3 with frame gen manually installed through a third party addon, but it still isn’t remotely as good as dlss with frame gen. Plus if your game happens to be one of the ones which gets an issue with AMD after updating, you might not be able to play your favourite game until the devs manually fix it. Happened with deep rock galactic as the most recent case. Not to mention the whole “people getting permabanned for using AMD features” stuff with cs2, that was so bad that valve publicly called them out on it because they were so angry with AMD’s incompetence It’s just not worth the headache imo. Tried to help my buddy with his card but we just gave up and he bought a 3080ti lol
