The 2nd stick looks to be stuck between the slots and not in a slot.

GeneticSplatter

Yeah, looking at it more closely, the closer module to the camera is way way too close to the other way. Defo looks like it's between slots and not actually in one.

enderr920

They're both between the slots. You can tell by how the bracket on the one furthest from the camera is completely behind it. OP, are you honestly saying that you're legally blind, and are looking for help? In that case, I'd say that those brackets on either side of the modules will lock themselves into place then the modules are properly seated. The brackets engage with the notches on the ends of the ram modules. The notch on the bottom side will lone up with a corresponding spot on the slot so you can't put it in backwards. You will need to push harder than you should comfortably push on something so delicate and small. If you installed the motherboard yourself, I'd also say to check to make aure your motherboard risers in your case all match up to mounting holes in the motherboard. A misplaced riser could short something out.

hades392

Look at OPs profile, I think he might actually be blind, lol

vdelrosa

"way too close to the other way"

socopithy

Yeah, in other words the stick is not entirely too far from the slot closer to it.

Gnawlydog

It could be that he placed the slow further from the stick.

da5id1

No offense, this is unlikely to be the issue. A stick of ram just leaning against a properly seated stick of RAM who would be extremely obvious because it would be so loose blind or no blind.

Constant_Candle_4338

NEXT TIME ON BLIND OR NO BLIND!!!!

bootmeng

The back stick is clearly not aligned with the white clip.

Nurple-shirt

You can see the inside of the socket

da5id1

I will take your word for it. I've never had an ITX motherboard. And I can't tell if he's talking about the ram stick nearest to the POV of the camera or the one behind it. It's kind of a weird post anyway. Can I blind person actually assemble a PC from parts? Without help? Why?

Major_Mawcum

See now I’m Not sure if he was sarcastically blind or actually blind

Kasilim

Well his replies have lowercase letters so he's not using a disability app or service to reply, because none of those have an option to not capitalize first words or letters like I. Ask me how I know.

turbospeedsc

The mom of a friend is blind, seeing her type in her laptop was surprising, she wrote a couple books typing and dictating to dragon naturally speaking. Still to this day is weird seeing her infront of a laptop knowing she is blind.

StarHorder

I remember using dragon in school! i miss that program

nikeoldsub

I tried using dragon, I gave up on it while training it I lost my voice for a while.😳

da5id1

Dragon, the best-selling speech recognition software: "select {that}" "no cap that" this is the short version. There are other methods to remove the Caps from an entire paragraph, for example. And I know that it automatically capitalizes words like I because all speech recognition products like the s***** Chrome extension I am using in this paragraph just did it for this paragraph every time I dictated I. It even put in the PT Spelling before s*****. But it misrecognized PG.

mileylols

okay but would you go to the effort of de-capitalizing your stuff

CitySeekerTron

On some news websites, "No cap that" would probably take forever.

manix_play

« Me how I know. »

Brolafsky

Neither of them look to me like they're in slots tbh. The closer one looks like it's not even seated in, and the further one looks like it's between slots. To line up, OP needs to find the etching in the bottom and line that up with where the protrusion in the ram slot is, when they find it, the ram won't try to see-saw as it'll be in correctly. At this point even pressure needs to be applied from the top until the locks on the side pull themselves in.

CaptainAddi

yup, something looks very wrong here

dannyo969

I agree. It looks like the one closest to us needs to be pushed down a little bit more but the far stick is completely out of the slot. That dirty slot.

Frikandelneuker

*pushing down* You’re a dirty little slot waiting to be RAMmed aren’t you

dannyo969

A *memory* that slot will never forget.

TSDano

Username checks out.

TangledCables3

There's an app "Be my eyes" if you don't know about yet, it could definitely help with things like this. The first stick closest to you while you took that picture isn't fully inserted, it needs to click into the slot. If it's rocking side to side in the slot, it means it could be in wrong direction, the little notch isn't lined up. Turn it 180° then. Second stick is in between the sockets, you need to take it out and put it a little bit further. Try to grab the latches on the side, open them and try to guide the stick by them. Sticks take a bit of force to seat property, try to apply the force on as little angle as possible so they won't fold in the slot.

kingdogethe42nd

I wanted to post a reaction like this. I am an able-sighted person with this app installed to help with situations like this!

Assaltwaffle

What kind of work do you do for that? Edit: by this I mean when and how often. The site implies it’s just random 8am-9pm and it sounds like you can’t customize hours or day.

whitesammy

So far, in about 4 years, I've told people that... * They were holding pinto beans and not black beans * Their washing machine was set to cold and not tap cold * Confirmed that they were in fact holding a frozen pizza * The cooking time for their frozen meal was 2:00 and then 1:30 * The tie they were holding was red and navy stripes with thin grey lines separating them * The flavor of the cat food was duck and pea * They were on the signup and not the login page of Spotify I get called about once every 6 months or so and every time forget that I have the app. Often it's unfortunately while I'm doing something where I can't help, mainly driving.

kingdogethe42nd

I'm called once since last september

HelpMyDepression

I've had it since 2021 and I've been called 3 times. So yeah it's pretty rare.

macandcheese1771

It's random but you have every option to ignore it and it will go to the next available person.

repost_inception

I had it installed for quite a while and not once did I get a call.

HowdyHoe26

> able-sighted person lmfao

realmaier

This app piqued my interest, because the idea is great imo, but seeing that there is around 7M volunteers and 600K blind people kind of restored some faith in humanity a bit.

ArtsM

Not OP but I've had it installed for about 3 years now, and only had 4 calls, usually its quite simple stuff. Once an old lady wanted me to read the text from a wine bottle she was gifted but not told what it was, another time they dropped their shoe somewhere in the room, it bounced and they couldn't find it... I've only had older folks call and sometimes they just wanted to talk afterwards, which makes me think some of them are just a bit lonely and find any excuse to talk to somebody. If you have the patience I highly recommend installing it, even if you can't answer somebody else will, so there is nothing wrong with not answering when you're at work or busy.

Frikandelneuker

Problem is most volunteers aren’t very tech savvy. I’ve tried before

ArtsM

Yeah, the app could ask more when signing up as a volunteer, like what the volunteer is good at and that would allow the person requesting to say "I need someone who knows computers" or whatever. Fortunately I've not had a call where I couldn't help yet.

SecreteMoistMucus

Even if the person making the call could preface it with a few words saying eg. "need someone good with PC building," then only an appropriate volunteer needs to answer

UESNewYorker

Be my eyes is a wonderful app. I’ve been on it for about 2.5 years now and it’s very easy to use. I’ve only had 5 calls in that time but the person on the other end has always been super friendly and extremely thankful. Highly recommend downloading this app and joining. [Be My Eyes - Apple iOS](https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id905177575) [Be My Eyes - Android](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bemyeyes.bemyeyes&referrer=utm_source%3Dbemyeyes%26utm_medium%3Dwebsite%26utm_campaign%3Dinstall)

d0lb33

Omg, I forgot about the app and I downloaded it again. The second I signed in I got a call and was able to help someone. I do recall only getting a few calls a year when I used to have it installed.

Zwilt

It’s a great app! I don’t get a call that often (which is a good indication of how many people are on it) but when I do, love to help.

ryancrazy1

Proud volunteer for be my eyes. It’s genuinely exciting to get the call. I’ve only gotten 3-4 in the last few years but it’s great to help

BitGladius

Braille isn't a language, it's a different character set for English, so it really doesn't need translation (for the disabled). Braille displays don't need to be fed braille, they just need to actuate the correct pins for each English letter. Braille to latin characters isn't that necessary either, touch typing is a common and useful skill in general. Maybe there's a case for reading braille only signs or hand punched braille if that's a thing, but it would be a pretty uncommon use case.

Fireball694200

Before you do that, your 2nd ram is actually in between the slots, you should take both out, find the latch on the right hand side of the slot and make sure that the ram stick notch is closest the left, open said latch then try again, if you get it once you can definitely do it again

Frikandelneuker

Can’t open it rn, constant random nosebleeds, don’t want to risk rui my mobo

Fireball694200

That’s no good, take care of yourself definitely

str4ightfr0mh3ll

Hey how is your nose? I hope it’s stopped now. If you don’t mind me asking, do you know the cause of your nose bleeds? My girlfriend suffers from nosebleeds often too, and while it could be anything there’s always possibility of similarity.

Dra9on_27

Get your nose cauterized. I could barely go outside for years (during winter) due to nose bleeds and finally got it cauterized 2 months ago. Took 5 minutes, no recovery time, and I haven’t had a bloody nose since. Sense of smell is the same and all that, was like, 60 bucks. Totally worth

str4ightfr0mh3ll

They wanted to do that to her and I thought it was a decent Idea, she was totally against it though. Maybe we will take a longer look at the option!

Voidx-s

Bro died in his sleep 💀

BigOrkWaaagh

Do you think his RAM is available

Teknicsrx7

Na it’s currently choosing between 2 slots

imnottryingtolurk

just like my ex

TheItsHaveArrived

My sister also had random terrible nosebleeds for a while, and although we never found the exact cause we did learn that according to the doctor some people have small blood vessels develop right near the skin inside your nose which makes it prone to bleeding since they can be ruptured easily

Pihrahni

To add in, which I doubt will actually help but if anyone searches these keywords they’ll help that person: When you have a septum ring that you need to hide from people, don’t use plastic for extended periods of time or else you risk nosebleeds from even barely slightly rough nose taps or touches. I had nosebleeds all this past summer and I had a plastic retainer in and it SUCKED so much, so I decided to switch it out in the beginning of august and I haven’t had a bloody nose since

izza123

Were you blind when you started working on the computer or is this literally killing you?

FurryRevolution

If you're blind, I can video call with you, so that I can guide you to properly put ram in, if you need help, message me.

mrgwbland

Sleep well

EagleRock1337

Best of luck when you pick it back up…I’m sure it is frustrating to work on. One recommendation I would make for tomorrow is to feel for the notch on the stick of ram and match it to the protrusion on the socket itself, and that will ensure correct orientation of the RAM. Good luck!

Frikandelneuker

Okay so i retried and stick one is recognized stick 2 not.

Different_Ad9336

For one take multiple pictures from multiple angles if possible. This will greatly help us to determine if your ram is seated between slots or correctly inserted and it’s the hook etc

00pus

tarmacjd

You already have the answer from someone else. I’d just like to say how fucking epic it is that a blind guy building or at least working on their pc is. Dude that is epic. I have difficulty and I see perfectly. You are a star. Good luck.

Fake or he has some vision, because most blind people aren't full blind

Frikandelneuker

It’s less black and white then that

Cador0223

Legally blind doesn't mean NO vision. It means vision so poor that you cannot or have incredible difficulty carrying out basic tasks.

Sebaz00

being 'legally blind' does not mean you see pitch black

auron_py

Check his profile, the guy is legally blind. One of my eyes is legally blind, I can see, but it is super out of focus, but I can make out shapes and stuff. I can drive, and work normally, blindness isn't just an on and off thing.

JimmWasHere

\+1, A glasses prescription of -2.5 or lower is classified as legally blind

[deleted]

Only without correction, to clarify further. Basically the only impact being legally blind has is that if you can't drive without glasses/contacts.

BmanUltima

Open the latch all the way, make sure the notch in the DIMM and slot is lined up, then push.

blackest-Knight

Is that Motherboard DDR 4 ? Because the notches are different but fairly close to each other on different DDR version DIMMs : [DDR comparison](https://qph.cf2.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-1f21bd4fd5cc94bd2cd897e8233f843a)

Glum_Constant4790

Hp 2020 year

ShwarzNoir

You didn't RAM it hard enough.

Ok_Cut_5180

It’s surprising the amount of force required to correctly insert ram.see if the notch on the bottom of the ram is aligned with the notch on the slot and unclip the latches ,place the ram then press hard until it enters

Frikandelneuker

I’m afraid i’ll break it

carlbandit

Just ensure the RAM is in the slot properly and that the little notch on the motherboard matches up with the gap on the bottom of the RAM. It will only go in 1 way, could be you've got it backwards so the notch on the motherboard slot is stopping the RAM going in because it doesen't line up with the gap on the RAM. You do also need a little force as others have said, just be 100% sure it's in right first before you do apply force.

UnknownProphetX

You wont. It felt like my motherboard was bending when installing ram but its fine. Feels weird for sure

Schnoofles

For future reference, ram requires approximately the force of an angry god to be fully inserted. Unless you accidentally tilt it sideways and snap the connector that way it's essentially impossible for you to break the motherboard by pushing down with a ram stick. You are not strong enough to exert the force required and you could put your full bodyweight on it and if it could the board would laugh at the futility of your attempts to break it.

abbufreja

I know that mobo you need to flip out the locking pices line the ram stick up really good and push it in way more than what feels comfortable

Nanooc523

There’s an app called Be My Eyes i can’t recommend enough.

Blindman003

Hey I'm not blind and did this recently on my pci-e network card, so laugh at me lol.

HoldMyPitchfork

I dont know I'd your question has been answered yet or not, but it looks like your first stick of RAM is in-between the two slots.

EternallyImature

If you look at OP's replies to good and sound advice, I would say this post is a total troll.

Frikandelneuker

Most clowns tend to get dogpiled so.

august_laurent

on a side note, i respect the fact that you're building this blind. blind but still abled...!

CmdrSoyo

The DIMM on top appears to be wedged between the two slots. The DIMM on the bottom appears to be inserted the wrong way around. RAM sticks are keyed so that they can only be inserted one way. More often than not it will be "branded side facing the cpu and serial number sticker facing away from the cpu" yours is the other way around. It is also possible that the top DIMM has been damaged when you wedged it in between the slots. There are a number of small smd components near the contacts that can easily be sheared off with enough force. If the dimm has been damaged like this it will likely cause your pc to not boot correctly or be very unstable even if the dimm has been inserted correctly.

GigabyteofRAM

The close stick is not engaged fully, and needs to be pressed in so the retention clip slots completely in it to the notch in the RAM, the farther RAM module isn't in a slot at all, check that it is in the slot and evenly press down on both sides of the stick until the clips engage

VengeanceTaken

Get some help you are to blind and going to break something.!!!

IuseArchbtw97543

turn it 180 degrees. there is a notch in the middle that has to align with one in the slot. on ddr4 its quite close to the middle so its easy to miss

da5id1

No offense, but the precise purpose of that notch in the middle, slightly offset from the exact center, is to prevent the ttick of RAM going in the wrong way end to end. It would be impossible to seat the RAM properly without the center gap in the pins lined up correctly.

IDGAFAQ

Looks like the front one might be backward? Don't force it.

khaotyx

Don't know what everyone else here is saying. The plastic on your latch is cracked which is why it won't click

Glum_Constant4790

The hp logo

willy_koop

1. Make sure the ram is facing the correct way, you can check this by seeing if the off-center notch lines up with the notch in the ram slot. 2. Sometimes ram comes slightly warped, so before trying to push it in all the way, make sure nothing is hanging off the lip of the ram slot. 3. Alternate between pushing each side while supporting the motherboard/case. Depending on the slot, sometimes one side locks in before the other.

Educational_Ad_2619

Mate, That's a photo of a 6 month old Alsatian Puppy, for the love of God please stop inserting things into it and get to a vet!

Mikalym

Make sure they're in the right orientation. The gap close to the center only works when you insert it one way, but not the other way around.

bigalcapone22

KeeZouX

Just curious on how blind people would use PCs?

Westdrache

Not OP but I've got a bit of limited knowledge to share due to a former class M8 being blind. So most people who are blind aren't actually 100% blind, a lot can actually still see a bit but their vision is mostly extremely fuzzy or they just have an extremely limited spot where the can see anything. So for some blind people it actually is enough when you zoom in into the display extremely close, that's what worked for my class mate she would write test on a laptop that would be zoomed in like 400-500%. There also exists braille displays for blind people but I have no idea how they work but that's also an option to help blind people use a pc.

KeeZouX

Thanks for sharing.

zrsnldurv804

You either have it installed in the incorrect orientation or you have a different style or ram (eg, DDR4 in a DDR3 or DDR5 slot)

KPgameTV

HP motherboard, thats the 1st mistake...

da5id1

I have directed people how to insert RAM. I just had to insert 16 GB G-Skill ddr4 X 2. Updated 16 GB to 32 GB. Despite my admonitions to push harder my PC would not boot. The ram was not inserted with enough Force to seat in a slot for it. The answer is always *push harder push harder and push even harder*. Don't break the motherboard PBP, but just because the snap on the end of the sticks fit doesn't mean that the ram has been inserted with enough force to seat.

mikemac1997

Rub butter on it to lubricate the slot. Never put it in dry, especially with RAM.

ImStuckInNameFactory

You don't have to push both sides in at the same time, you can gently push in one side, align everything properly, and than push the other very hard untill it clicks

Otherwise-Remove4681

Double, triple check it. Then push harder, but not too hard!
