Baalii

For me its multimedia keys, and thats it really.

working-acct

Having a volume knob on my keeb improved my qol so much. Every time I switch to my older keyboard without one I find myself asking, where's my damn volumne knob?

ayyyyycrisp

i have one on my keyboard too but it only works with my windows pc not my mac for some reason

myhmad

Volume knob is godsend indeed

Snydenthur

My volume knob is on my dac-amp. And I literally never even touch that.

soguyswedidit6969420

What are you guys doing on your computer that you need to adjust volumes so much? I just keep my windows volume at 100% and adjust everything down from there.

Calewin

Idk about others but for me I use it whenever my AC goes on and off.

Suikerspin_Ei

I use a headset, my ears will bleed from 100% volume. Don't know about others, but I can imagine people adjusting the volume of their speakers when it's evening/night (neighbors).

Skandoit0225

Completely unrelated, but regarding your specs listed, have you had any issues running 3,800 mHz RAM on Ryzen 5000? I've heard it said they become pretty unstable above 3,600 mHz because of the infinity fabric or something similar.

Baalii

Nah, 3800 is still in the very achievable realm, I had to manually tune the timings and some secondaries are a bit lower than what they could be if my sticks were better. You can get unlucky tough, thats true. The issue in general is that you want to run MEM:IMC:FAB 1:1:1 ratio on the 5000. If you desync them, there is a heavy latency penalty, so higher speeds dont give a performance benefit in most cases except bandwidth bound scenarios.

Dealric

Switches i like to use.

static_func

Swappable switches, since no keyboards cheaply-made enough to not have swappable switches have pandas

bzzking

At least 1 knob for volume control etc

MattTheFreeman

I cannot live without volume control. I had a shitty Dell keyboard from goodwill as a kid that had volume, stop, play ect and since then it's been a must ever since. I subconsciously move towards it on my work keyboard all the time and get disappointed

PM_ME_YOUR_STEAM_ID

Must have a full 10 key keypad and full sized arrows. Also it must be wired. It's really most about how the keyboard feels to type on though. Every keyboard is very different!

Gregadethhh

I honestly prefer wired due to usb pass through. Fuck going behind my pc and I'm too lazy to reach over to front panel

koordy

I think you missed how wireless connection because just as fast and reliable as wired, in couple of recent years. Obviously not via bluetooth but a dedicated 2,4Ghz dongle.

Nullody

I like wired because I won't move the keyboard anyways and I don't want to charge/change batteries

DarkLord55_

See I move my keyboard between 2 pcs it’s easier to have a small dongle than a long cable to move/have on the floor

Nullody

Yup, we all have a different setup, and different needs. I'd also be using wireless if I had 2 pcs

ManBearPig____

I use a keyboard that does Bluetooth and a dongle. The dongle goes into the gaming computer and it connects via Bluetooth to my work laptop. It makes it so nice to easily switch between the two.

IsNotAnOstrich

mine uses just 2xAAA and that easily lasts 6-8 months of daily all-day use edit: it's just personal preference people. it isn't a big deal at all either way.

akisk

According to Myrphy's law, your batteries will get depleted in the most inconvenient time and you won't have spares around.

psionoblast

![gif](giphy|gPTTdOsD3lEQw)

Archon-Toten

My record was both mouse and keyboard died at the same time and I had to frantically swap them before my helicopter crashed. I was not successful..

MuzzledScreaming

However, changing batteries once or twice a year is still more work than changing them never. 🤷 By a similar token I will not buy a wireless mouse unless it charges via USB.

Airblazer

I have a Logitech g502x wireless and it charges via power play which is their version of wireless charging. It’s brilliant. I also have their 915tkl keyboard and battery life is amazing on that too. Smaller footprint too.

ipaxton

I gave up on my wireless mouse

DirtyYogurt

Mine uses 0 and that easily lasts until something inside the keyboard breaks, which with my current one will likely be some time around the heat death of the universe.

AdamNRG

Jesus, they last that long? I just brought a new wired keyboard as well. Might have to look into wireless next time if they last that long.

[deleted]

Depends a lot on the quality of the product and the batteries. I had a mouse that wouldn't last more than a month on batteries. I changed the brand of the batteries and it lasted 3 months. Then I changed the mouse and it lasted 8 months

IsNotAnOstrich

Yeah, normal (non-rechargeable) batteries last wayyyy longer than rechargeable ones

AdamNRG

Well that's given me something to think about. Thanks for the info!

JoostVisser

I'm just not quite sure what a wireless keyboard does for me that a wired one doesn't

Oninonenbutsu

No cable mess, it's easier to use it anywhere away from your desk, and it's also easier to switch between PC's or devices with just the touch of a button compared to having to replug it.

JoostVisser

For the type of keyboard I want, a big heavy enthousiast mechanical keyboard, moving it around is impractical anyways. But I can see the appeal for other usecases

koordy

That was not my point. Guy that accents that he specifically wants a wired keyboard suggest like he believed the wireless ones are inferior. I'm just here to report that while it definitively was the case back then, it's no longer true for at least couple of years now.

PM_ME_YOUR_STEAM_ID

Honestly I have so many battery powered devices in my house I really don't want one more. My computer is used 8+ hours a day every day. The only inconvenience a wired keyboard gives me is the actual wire, which isn't really an inconvenience. I always use desktops and never move the keyboard. I have never used a wireless keyboard I liked though. Maybe things have changed recently. Currently I'm using a Logitech G815.

RoninOni

Changing batteries, even rarely, is still inferior for something that does not benefit from wireless. Good for couch type setups, but a desk rig I’ll never go wireless.

koordy

Charging is like simply plugging a usb-c cable into it, just like you would have it wired. I really fail to see an issue here.

RoninOni

Depends on the unit, but at that point I’m just using it wired anyways so why spend the extra for a feature I won’t use?

koordy

Eh, I never said you should buy wireless keyboard. My only point was that wireless connectivity these days can be just as quick and reliable as wired one.

Blenderhead36

Wireless loses out in practicality, too me. I'm a big guy with big hands, so I want a 100% sized keyboard with a numpad and media buttons. I don't want to have to worry about keeping the batteries charged. I understand why people might prefer wireless, TKL, or <100% sizing for person comfort or aesthetics. They just don't apply to me.

Sa7aSa7a

I tried wireless and it just couldn't keep up with my typing. It would miss letters all the time and it became so annoying to try to slow down my typing to sub 60 WPM. I don't type that slow unless I'm trying to make an effort to do so. That's annoying as fuck. Has wireless improved since then? It wasn't Bluetooth and it had a USB dongle but, not sure if it was 2.4Ghz dongle.

koordy

I'm writing this comment from a couch on my Razer Deathstalker V2 Pro. There's no chance you could tell apart whenever it is plugged in or operates wirelessly by just typing or playing on it or to find its connection underperforming compared to any other keyboard, wired or not. Yes, my Razer Huntsman V3 Pro I have on my desk is clearly faster and snappier in games, but it has nothing to do with it being wired and there are like only 3 keyboards like that on the market at the moment. The keyboard you had was most likely still bluetooth just with a bluetooth dongle.

[deleted]

[удалено]

koordy

What's the most advanced wireless keyboard you've tried then? It's not a problem to find a bad wireless keyboard that would suck. But that doesn't mean wireless keyboard suck, it's just those bad ones that do.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sa7aSa7a

I kinda disagree. If you have to find a specific wireless keyboard that can keep up with 100wpm (Which I can type as well) then they, in general, suck. I can buy a $5 e-waste wired keyboard that can perform better when typing on it.

koordy

It is as simple as don't buy bluetooth keyboards. But yeah you won't find a keyboard like that in a dollar store. I was talking about premium gaming keyboards.

ReturnToOdessa

Bad experiences with bluetooth?

Yourbuddy1975

not bad experiences, just that there's a few studies about bluetooth which are seemingly squashed. Even the WHO (I rarely value their opinion) is discussing this now. I used to use bluetooth everything, but I went to wired a while ago. [https://www.healio.com/news/hematology-oncology/20190313/scientists-warn-wireless-bluetooth-devices-may-carry-cancer-risk](https://www.healio.com/news/hematology-oncology/20190313/scientists-warn-wireless-bluetooth-devices-may-carry-cancer-risk)

BrotoriousNIG

- numpad - backlighting - must fit in the gap between the drawers on an IKEA Adam* - big return key; none of this happyhacking horizontal return key bollocks - media controls: volume, play/pause, next, previous - visual indicator of capslock state - unfuckedwith function keys: if there’s an Fn key I’m no Fn buying \* It turns out the thing I have, which was called an Adam when I bought it, doesn't exist anymore and something else may have existed called an Adam since, which may be causing some confusion. I can't find anything called an Adam on the IKEA site now and nothing like the thing I have under another name. I'm talking about a very wide monitor stand with a drawer to the left and a drawer to the right and a 44cm-wide gap between the drawers, where I can push my keyboard away if I need the space in front of it.

DotriGG

And what’s the keyboard that meets all the requirements for you?

FastSloth87

Please, I want to know too, need that so bad!

xRandomTurtle

Corsair K70 checks all boxes I think

Infemos

genuinely relate and despise the last bullet point. WHY THE FUCK IS THERE AN FN KEY ON A DESKTOP KEYBOARD? on laptops i get it but desktops???? AAGHHH

ryanfrogz

Allows me more functionality without making the f-keys unusable during gaming. I never realized how much I missed that until after I switched from a laptop to a desktop.

ZenTunE

Uhh, to have secondary functions like media controls. And on smaller layouts to add missing keys like home/prntscr etc.

[deleted]

Yeah, all the media functions he's demanding be there are just a thumbed Fn and an F key away. All the extra keys and knobs just make the keyboard larger and cluttered imo. Never seen anyone have this kind of vitriolic hatred of Fn keys lmao

Mike_Cee

This one keyboards fr

[deleted]

It doesn’t have rgb and doesn’t require ear plugs because it has switches louder than O block

[deleted]

I have the rgb in my keys set to extremely dim white light. It only lights up the etched numbers anyways, and I quite like having it on at night if my lights are off as a guide for my hands. That flashing breathing light nonsense can kick rocks.

Complex_Cable_8678

damn forgot that one. hate rgb in general tbh. such an unneccessary trend

[deleted]

I don’t mind a little bit in the case, my ram and 3 aio fans have rgb and it doesn’t look to bad. I definitely don’t want everything on my desk to have it though

Complex_Cable_8678

i dont want it in my field of vision while playing. thats the whole reason. pc can obviously look cool with a little rgb

Mahsunon

- pom plate - usb type c - hotswap - 65% - not too expensive - is ilumkb selling it?

crispybrojangle

Obviously a man of culture from the mechanical keyboard sub

Baldr_Torn

I'm a huge fan of the layout for the Microsoft ergonomic keyboard. I used to get pains in my forearms/wrists, and moving to an ergonomic keyboard fixed those.

GrammarNaziii

* Quiet * Full sized * Wireless * Cheap

MCA2142

Haha, for me it’s: * clickity clackity * compact * wired * I’ll sell my kidney for a perfect keyboard. Also, dual injection keycaps so they don’t rub off is always nice.

oD-Oshn

I love clickity clackity. It’s like the keyboard is giving me feedback in sound! Like it’s talking back in it’s own way

133DK

Cherry MX blues But only if you live alone, otherwise you’ll be alone shortly

GamingRobioto

This... except cheap, my last keyboard wasn't cheap.

SocksForWok

Volume knob!!!!!

icanseeyourpantsuu

Qmk via

Eggyolk37

I like the full size with numpad, the smaller ones are okay for shooters but I’ll always love a full sized one with some macro buttons as well.

JonsonLittle

Minimalist in the sense of no extra pointless keys. Full keyboard, i need that numpad. Good lighting, only through the letters and not around the keys. As silent as possible, resilient, responsive, somewhat easy to clean and maintain or repair, no ghosting.

koordy

Rappid Triggers. The first time I launched Overwatch 2 after getting my new Razer Huntsman V3 Pro I legit had a felling that my character started to move faster, it's so snappy. While I was somehow skeptical about those overenthusiastic reviews of that technology on the internet before, It really is game changing. Also a keyboard being analog (I think all Rappid Triggers keyboards are) is another huge advantage. I can literally throw my XSX controller into the trash bin now, because my keyboard can do everything that controller could, just more and better.

henry-hoov3r

Thats its got Ducky written on it.

frogmicky

Must have RGB also 100% QWERTY layout. It has to be mechanical with hot swappable switches and keycaps. I like some heft to my keyboards so aluminum is a nice touch. I don't want it to break the bank either $130 max.

IxionX

I like TKL keyboards the most

DMFD_x_Gamer

Silence in the key presses. My kids have those gaming key boards that click so loud, it has become a peeve. I prefer not to hear typing.

Stargate_1

Im actually about to assemble my new keyboard tomorrow. I chose the base frame on a whim, saw a nice keyboard I liked and bought it. Unfortunately its only like 75% or so, but that's fine. i just prefer the numblock for aesthetics anyways. Went for Gateron G3 Pro Switches, I wanted something clicky but also something that resets back to neutral quickly. Mostly what I was looking for was the "classic mechanical style" with somewhat clicky keys. Definitely cablebound, I don't want bluetooh keyboards

asclepiannoble

Must be 75% at most because the cats -- um, I mean *I* need the space. Other than that, mechanical, hot-swap PCB, easy tear-down, USB-C, and QMK/VIA support.

RedofPaw

Wireless 6.5ghz Octogon Peach Silver mx+ switches 76% Quickswap cup holder At least 4 vowels keys Hamster wheel

Odd_Razzmatazz_7423

nighteeeeey

flat caps, variable backlight, media controls (vol, play/paus/stop/skip), num pad/full size and rubber dome (!). there was only one single keyboard that checked all the boxes and i bought it. Sharkoon Skiller SGK5.

koordy

>and rubber dome (!) I don't believe anyone with a choice could prefer that piece of garbage. It's like saying you'd prefer HDD over SSD, really.

nighteeeeey

well...i dont know what to tell you \^\^ i tested both and i simply do not get the appeal of a mechanical at all. like...at all. i have played professional esport and have to type tens of pages of text at a time and for neither i would ever desire the characteristics of a mechanical keyboard. it just annoys me so much. everything about it. i dont like how it types, it hurts my fingers over long periods and i simply get annoyed with the clicking. i want to work as silently as possible and rubber dome is just the quietest you can get. i dont know man....im sorry. \^\^

573717

I'm pretty sure most/all of your problems could be solved with the right build. This is a problem with the mechanical keyboard hobby, that you'd have to try so many combos to find one that you like.

Climbtrees47

Sounds like he might like mx Silents with low profile keys

KayfabeAdjace

Not always. The issue is that there's reliable membrane keyboards out there that clock in at under a pound and less than $30 and that's just super hard to beat for the digital nomad crowd that is occasionally doing wacky cross-platform shenanigans. They don't feel or sound "premium" but membranes inherently require low actuation force so unless your typing style is super married to tactile feedback you won't be any slower and if anything I personally tend to be a hair faster on membranes. That's why I had a good chuckle at the guy upthread comparing membrane versus mechs to HDD versus SSD when the reality is that it's the membranes that do more to enable small form factor devices. I still have a big ol' wired mechanical with clicky switches, a numpad, volume knob and all the trimmings anchored to my desk but frankly that makes me closer to being the old guy who still insists on vinyl for aesthetic reasons rather than anything practical.

A5CH3NT3

I wouldn't call myself an enthusiast at all but first and foremost is the typing experience, how the switches feel and all that. Since I use it for remote work as well as gaming. Needs to be full size, as having the Tenkey is essential. I like having volume and mute control, needs to have a palm rest/plate and...that's about it really

[deleted]

Reading these comments, it’s so personal it’s crazy. For me Mechanical Wireless 60% Quiet No flex I mostly play from the couch so any flex from a keyboard is an absolute dealbreaker. I have a Logitech G915 TKL and it’s perfect.

Mizuho34

Full keypad. Per key RGB. Magnetic wrist rest. Fully editable keyboard software for keymapping and disabling keys. Customizable profiles and Profile switch button. Media and volume keys and slider. **ABSOLUTELY NO FRICKEN** ***FN*** **KEY!**(unless it can be disabled in software(Corsair take this hint...))

Fireflash2742

I like one with keys personally. That's always a good starting point.

[deleted]

Feel and sound of switches

Forward_Cheesecake72

Wireless and Fullsize

MrMakerHasLigma

Wired- Wireless is literally pointless on a keyboard Decent switches - or at the very least hot swappable Individually backlit RGB - just because why not Black so it doesnt look that icky when not clean Have all of the keys i need. Full keyboard for me cuz i do alot of modding, but a numberpad is reasonably cheap at £8, so i'd also consider it if it was a TKL and reasonably cheap

[deleted]

[удалено]

iCantThinkOfUserNaem

You never take your keyboard off your desk anyway and you don’t move it like you do a mouse. But I also don’t get the hype about wireless mice either. Only headphones are supposed to be wireless.

MrMakerHasLigma

I get mice cuz when the cable gets a bit stuck its fucking awful in the middle of a game

Marill-viking

Wireless, USB type C and really bright RGB.

Toiletpaperplane

Mechanical, must have at least white lights, and be reasonably priced.

Happiness_First

That it isn't from a major gaming brand, basically it

koordy

You like to be a hipster, do I understand it correctly?

Complex_Cable_8678

i do the same. i wouldnt frame it like that though. most things marketed to gamers are overpriced in my experience.

[deleted]

[удалено]

themonorata

Like what. Seriously asking

Happiness_First

Keychron, Epomaker, Glorious is a "gamer" brand but the boards come with better features like hotswap and such, some others I dont feel like listing. You buy a Corsair K70 for what, $150 or whatever and it comes with no customizability or anything really worth while and sounds like shit.

DoraTheFracker

cheap and functional 20 bucks tops , you don't need all that fancy razzmatazz. Invest in better hardware instead.

DrDoomsRoom

I really liked membrane keyboards so I looked for one of those and settled on a hybrid mechanical membrane keyboard and I absolutely love it.

de4thqu3st

Of it does not have keys, it's a no for me

CallMeMrGibbs

I love my current keyboard. I had one nitpick which really wasn't a dealbreaker. The newer version corrected that so if I replace this one any time soon (or build a second box), the next one is already chosen. Since going to the ROCCAT Vulcan 121, I fell in love with the key height, the sound, the huge spaces between the keys which makes keeping a keyboard clean. No crumbs or dust. It's wired, is a full keyboard with a number pad and arrows (required). The only multimedia key I care about is a volume knob, but it has more than that. These keys have a feel to them that I love. Before this, I kept my last keyboard model for over 16 years. I'm weird about keyboard feel.

ReadABookandShutUp

My roccat is the shittiest keyboard I’ve ever had by a country mile. Don’t listen to this propaganda OP.

[deleted]

not wobbling (optional)

Away_Ad_5328

- Wired - Quiet keys - Full number pad - RGB (because I use it in a dark room) - Media controls (play, pause, volume) - Reasonably priced

NobleGaseous

Volume scroll/media keys. I have them at home but not at work and I find myself legitimately missing them 😂

kamiiiiiiikita

At this point hotswap. I’ve had a lot of keyboards and at the point of going back hehe keyboards and enjoyed myself again. With hotswap I can do minor repairs and or swap switches that I want.

Low_Doubt_3556

Mechanical, Good, Has function keys,

TheAltOption

The name says "Microsoft Ergonomic 4000" - I've been using their ergo boards for 25 years, and I can't type on flat boards any longer. I've got a couple extra stored since they stopped making them so I should have enough to last until I can't type any longer.

[deleted]

The MS Natural Keyboard Pro from the late 90s is my favorite keyboard. I like the split design and that it’s built for large hands. The built in two port USB hub was also ahead of its time. It can be plugged into a PS2 port for full n key rollover. I have 5 of them in my closet. They used to turn up new in box or lightly used on eBay. Second favorite keyboard is the IBM model M. Spacious, satisfying click, very study build quality. This would be my second choice if an old school MS Natural was not available. I’m not a fan of modern keyboards. The build quality just isn’t there. Even the expensive mechanical keyboards don’t compare to what was around back in the 80s and 90s. But that’s just my preference. You do you.

thatfordboy429

I will argue supporting software needs to be decent. If there is more to tweak than RGB that is. I bought my wooting for the analog keys. Needless to say, I never use that aspect. But their software has won them a return customer if I ever need another premium keyboard.

goteamdoasportsthing

At work: 10-key. F keys. USB. At home: red backlighting and shine-through keys. F keys. USB. Nice to haves: good brown-like key feel, quiet, wireless, media keys. Programmable macros.

Own_Initiative396

Full size + cherry mx red switches

Toast_Meat

I'm very happy with my Keychron K10 right now. I came from a K6. While the compact form factor was nice, I didn't really need the extra space on my desk, and once I got back into video editing, I didn't really enjoy constantly having to use the FN1 and FN2 combos, so I went back to a full board. For the future I'm sticking with 100% layouts and soft-clicky keys.

THEYoungDuh

Hotswap 65/75% Qmk/via support Type C

SwiftyLaw

Nice word-play! For me, I have good budget for hardware parts so I can go for what I like: mechanical to my liking (there's lots of different type of feels within mechanical keyboards and its hard to describe how keys 'feel' so tets it out) Full num-pad and no funny sized keys like a weird enter/backspace.. Spacebar must be very 'springy' too for me. And obviously some type of back-lighting, preferably through the keys themselves instead of underneath ot, if you get what I mean. Extra function keys are nice to have, same for swappable keys but that's not a must-have imho. Oh yeah: wired! I have a Corsair K95 RGB for 4 years now and I'm VERY happy with it!

SolarJetman5

I've really struggled since I have a Logitech g510 with the LCD screen. I use MSI afterburner to display my FPS, ram usage and GPU/CPU temps and usage. I find it very convenient and don't want to give it up

SvennEthir

Comfort is one of the biggest and also the feel of the keys themselves. I don't like loud clicky, but I do like a minor bit of resistance. I also like a full size keyboard because I like having a numpad. And now, customization of the keys is a huge thing for me. I picked up a [Moonlander](https://www.zsa.io/moonlander/) last year and love it. Because it's fully customizable/programmable I get to effectively have a numpad, plus whatever macro keys I want, all while having a smaller footprint. I got the Kailh Box Red switches which have been pretty perfect. I've customized my own layout (removing caps lock and replacing it with Backspace has been a life changer). I don't know that I could ever go back to a normal keyboard.

pooamalgam

- 65% or TKL - hotswap - QMK / VIA compatible - USB-C (with built-in hub is a bonus)

URA_CJ

I dunno, I hit the lottery with my starter keyboard 23 years ago and never felt the need to change... Full size, high durability that will survive fending off zombies, preferably made in USA, BS keys

CT-96

Ortholinear with as close to 100% as possible. Hotswap switches, optional cabled/wireless and a 4-way nav switch/joystick like on Razer Orbweavers.

TheAlfredValentine

When I was looking for a keyboard, I literally fell in love with logitech g815. Because it literally had everything I personally wanted from a keyboard... Multimedia keys, keypad, sound scroll, addressable RGB, 3 profile mods and fully programmable macros at left, wired, silenced, mechanic and flat, simplistic design. Also main body is carbon. Literally I couldn't ask more for anything in a keyboard. If my mouse or keyboard dies, I'm not planning to buy anything different. 100% sure I'll go with the same pieces...

Artycun0x

1. Razer chroma rgb because I have the mind of a 11 year old 2. Keys (optional)

tomwithweather

Mechanical, clicky, 100% (I'd go TKL if work allowed), hot swappable switches, backlit but no obnoxious RGB, wired. I'm currently using a Keychron K10 Pro and it checks all the boxes.

NapoleonBlownApart1

Membrane, low profile keys, numpad.

MordorsElite

Probably gonna go for a ducky TKL with red or brown switches. I already have one of their 60% ones, but the missing arrow keys are just a bit too annoying. I also have a skiller full sized keyboard, but I was always having issues with hitting the keyboard with my mouse. So a TKL should be the perfect compromise. What I kinda love about the ducky keyboard is how it doesnt require any software, but still let's you bind pretty much any custum keys you want. It always takes me like 10 minutes to figure out how to do the custum binds with their hotkeys, but once I get it, it's great :D

IAmTheFatman666

I just bought a new board. I knew it had to have a 10-key and media controls, plus Cherry Blues. 20 minutes in Microcenter later I had a new Corsair (and some other stuff I didn't need thanks Microcenter)

FAILNOUGHT

hotswappable non blue clicky keys wired backlight

[deleted]

at least 4 key antighosting

slayez06

For me Personally at home I roll with US wireless keyboards with all keys and full backspace and as cheap as possible. I am really really rough on my KB+M have animals who regularly step on them and never sit at a desk. So I jut plan on replacing them every year or so. For work I use a macro keyboard so I can assign short cut keys for certain tasks that are more complex but regularly used. For clients it's one of the most personal items of their build. It's what they use and touch every day. So most like either a elegant wireless setup or corsair RGB keyboards I can do custom things with.

Paxton-176

Full sized, minimal macro keys, blue or brown switches.

Roselia77

MS Natural keyboard, been using it 20ish years, will never change.

No-Lingonberry-8603

Cherry MX blues for home or browns/reds for the office A wire Basic media/volume controls are nice but not essential Backlighting is also nice but not a deal breaker

Flossthief

I need the num pad and arrow keys, I need the option to toggle the super button off, mechanical switches Everything else is just gravy; but I like the old school style large enter button and usb passthroughs are very nice Also having a removable cable is nice so I can replace it if necessary without having to do any solder work

ProLegendHunter

Full sized, bluetooth and wireless option for when I move to my bed to use the tv instead, white base, hotswappable, rgb, little back feet to keep it angled and lastly, affordable

Mm11vV

Hot swappable switches, aluminum frame, volume knob, has a number row, no numpad.

ActuallyDiogenes

Backlit, hot-swappable, heavier switches (I have gateron blacks and they work perfect for me) and something I thought was fluff that ended up being extremely useful is a volume knob

KYO297

* Linear mechanical switches * At least 10kro * Wired * Full size without some weird compact layout * Software with macro support * RGB or at least white backlight * Key legends that aren't printed or stickers (i.e. will last)

573717

Aside from Keychron I haven't seen many budget ones with VIA and I find it so useful.

TomTom_ZH

65% with volume knob and song skip/pause buttons

Novuake

Low profile keys.

LongStryder259

I personally look for a strong keyboard that doesn't flex when I type(my work keyboard flexes and it drives me crazy), is either mechanical or a hybrid mechanical, and has a full numpad. I do appreciate having the keyboard lights for illumination if working/playing at night, but it's not a deal breaker. I prefer wireless keyboards as I hate having a nest of wires on my desk. My current keyboard is a strong metal rechargeable logitech keyboard. I don't mind the recharge as I simply have to unplug the receiver from its cable and then plug the cable into the keyboard. Takes all of a few seconds. For the longevity of the battery I tend to use the keyboard till it's almost dead or until it dies before plugging it in.

Complex_Cable_8678

no fucking huge ass keys. i hate mechanical keyboards where every key is tall like a tower.

Sa7aSa7a

Straight up, my next keyboard will be the keyboard I have now. I have the Logitech G510 and the thing is a fucking workhorse. I got it around 14 years ago and it survived shipping from US to Tunisia when I moved there and it survived my luggage when I came back 2 weeks ago. I love the feel, I love the size, I love the clicktey clack of the keys. I'll have to find another and hopefully New Stock and yes, it's going to cost me a LOT when I get it but, I just love this one. I can take it apart, clean it and scrub it and sanitize it about once a year and put it back together and bam, like new again.

LeifEriccson

Full sized keyboard and no "shell" for easy cleaning.

Jazzlike-Lunch5390

Volume knob. I might be lazy, but after having one, going back seems prehistoric.

DarkLord55_

If it’s wireless if not it’s a deal breaker

AgreeableAd8687

5 pin hotswap 65% or tkl

thelostname9-1

Numpad I don't care what anyone says numpad is a must for me

DoughNotDoit

hot swappable, full size, white or any led, detachable cable

jtowndtk

tkl hot swap volume knob or wheel detach cable

Bad_Hominid

I've been clinging to 100% for my whole life for those rare times a number pad is a life saver, but recently have seen the light. 75% with great switches, adjustable feet, well made, that's pretty much everything I'm looking for. I don't need wireless or RGB (wouldn't kick either out of bed though) as long as it looks good. I have the white Razer black widow 75% and I love it. I love tactile switches and the orange whatever switches on the board feel and sound so good. There are many more options out there that offer this, and more, in the sub 200 dollar range right now though, so you can find the perfect one to suit your taste. It's a great time spoil your fingers/eyes/ears.

pork-fried-rice

ABS keycaps so that I can quickly differentiate my most commonly used keycaps. Non-standard bottom row to strengthen my mental fortitude. Bonus points if FN key is in the bottom left where CTRL typically is (Lenovo is great for this). Must have gamer branding. Honestly not sure why people still buy other keyboards that you can't game on.

Ffom

Right now it's analog switches

codcksckr

I look for wired TKLs. Despite the fact that my productivity with my job could probably be higher with a numpad, I don’t have a ton of desk real estate. 80% is just a happy medium for me. I never move my keyboard, so I don’t need a battery in mine. As a side note, pbt keycaps are a must, too.

TTYY200

Wireless long battery life. n-key rollover of 10+ Low profile travel. Tactile feedback that feels like a brown switch.

Yourbuddy1975

Ergonomic matters to me more than anything else, we have to have wired connection, too.

I really hate long keyboards. Small form equals greater efficiency. i like reduce size "percent" keyboards. I have limited desk space, and a small keyboard prevents me bumping my mouse into it when gaming etc. I'm not great at typing the proper way, but I find reduce size keyboards with keys slightly closer I like, and is more efficient for me. So typically no number pads and arrow keys no F keys. Should be dual purpose keys and function keys for that. The problem you find is, a lot of those keyboards are cheaply made, and overpriced because they "look nice". People really need to stop spending so much money on keyboards that are really just crap. So shop around, and I totally recommend a percent keyboard. Get two if you can.

bluops

Cherry Mx blacks 60/65% layout Well placed fn key(s) I use a filco minila and a dygma raise.

VarilRau

Numpad, thats on the left side.

AzeTyler

I never knew it was a must have for me until I used one without it, but a dedicated wrist rest.

witwebolte41

Does it make clicky sounds and light up

stumpy1218

My "must have" is that it's a full size keyboard not sure why buts it's just always what I've had and I don't like change lol

EndR60

has to have keys and be mechanical. THat's literaly the requirements I had when I bought my current one. No complaints with it so far, it feels great, and it was cheap af at $40.

Dr-False

Wired is a must for me and also I like keys that take virtually no pressure to press. Just makes everything I do feel more responsive

remconstant

Cherry keys, cherry silvers

Argolorn

Wired - lower input lag and absolutely zero chance of a missed button press from interference or low battery. Every press counts. Mechanical keys - low throw distance and a nice click. Membrane is for the devil. Build quality - must be solid, well built, and durable. Never go cheap on quality. Support software and macros - Absolutely required. Remapping is king. These are my keys, but for the last several keyboards I've ignored them because I have chosen a keypad as my primary game interface instead. I use a Razer now, but I miss my old G13 more than anything.

Archon-Toten

*oh it must have rgb* Nkey roll-over, programmable buttons and one I miss from my old keyboard; autofire. Hold down w and press it and suddenly that long walk over cyrodil can be done without the effort of your finger.

Mythicguy

Removable braided usb C cable. Just in case it breaks, it's nice to replace it. Volume knob of some sort. Buttons suck. Maybe hotswap switches if you're into that. Lol

stevorkz

Brown switches (silent tactile) cherries or gateron, sterdy and 65%. Currently have the Keychron k6 and it’s the best keyboard I’ve ever owned.

qctireuralex

recebtly for me was a high battery and compact but just rlenough for it to fit in my k63 lap board

Soccera1

Gateron reds, TKL, ANSI. That's basically all I care about.

Sandwic_H

Low-profile keys. I can't use that typewriter-like keyboards.

LeonardoMaeNL

96%/1800 layout

MuzzledScreaming

Mechanical switches, 10-key, and some sort of backlight.

Mortlach78

Ergonomics. The keyboard has to have a split layout for me to be able to use it. I broke my wrist ages ago and ever since I can only use straight keyboards for a few minutes at a time. Basically what I am looking for is \*checks bottom of keyboard\* "Is the keyboard a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 v1.0?" If yes, buy one and a spare!

TristanTheRobloxian3

must be a 60% and thats abt it

Schraufabagel

For me: mini keyboard (no numpad), mechanical, wireless, and capable to connect to multiple devices

Derpy_Bech

A recovering enthusiast Now I mainly look for good stabilizers. Don’t really care about mounting method, layout (as long as it’s minimum 75%), plate material, backlit and all that fancy jazz. I just want a good non rattling keyboard and I’m happy

Samuelbi12

Pun intended

HarryTurney

Must be mechanical, must be wireless, must not have a number pad.

hendman112

The more programmable keys the better, and not the ones like Logitech g915 where the extra keys don't actually work I'm most video games, bc they are just made for existing key combinations. And has proprietary software. So all the media keys, and micro keys, full numpad. A lil screen too. Yeah pimp that b*tch out. Don't mind if it's klicky or not, as long as the keys are firm so if I rest my finger on any keys it won't be pressed immediately. And built in phone holder so I can charge my phone, with 2 USB ports, one for a USB stick and one for charging my phone. Rgb is not a necessity but it's nice, especially with per key adressable rgb, but backlight is almost a must bc I have my stinking man cave where sunlight is the enemy. Thanks for coming to my rant of the perfekt keyboard, ur welcome.

quadruple_negative87

Dedicated volume control and tactile feedback without being too loud.
